Here’s a tip for the baby bunny you have. Usually, babies at that age will only be drinking their mothers milk. A great milk replacer for bunnies is goat milk. I had a Flemish giant litter earlier this year and we had a runt. We used goat milk as a replacement and he made a full recovery. I hope this helps!

I had a duck similar to that except a bit smaller. She was a mallard. I hatched her from an egg, and she was with me for 29 years. another two years and she'd have made the record lifespan for a duck in captivity (wild ducks don't live nearly that long). During her entire life we were only ever apart once, when I was in the hospital. Otherwise, we were together 24/7. I miss her badly, even though it has been a bit over a year since her passing. There is a huge hole in my heart now which will never heal.

She had a really good avian vet which helped a lot, I'm sure, and I didn't spare anything when it came to her wellbeing, including the quality of the food I fed her. Most of all, she was loved, which I think counted for a lot. She hatched out of her egg on my chest covered with lots of blankets to keep the heat in, even though it was a hot July day. When she died, she used the last of her strength to climb up on my chest where she then passed. She knew to the very end that she was loved and safe. Needless to say, with anything or anyone with which you are so close, it was a very painful parting. It still makes me cry just writing and thinking about it. She was special in ways most people cannot even imagine. I hope that the duck in the video also gets a great life. These birds are sentient, self-aware, and have emotions, and as such, deserve all the kindness and love we can put on them. If he were to want to place him, I'd hope that maybe he'd consider placing her here. She'd end up being an indoor duck like my Quigly was, and she'd have endless love. @@catkrazy24 I would like to, but it probably won't happen again unless I can adopt an older bird. I am getting up in years, and I almost certainly will not be around 29 years from now. That would put me into my 100's, and I'm not all that healthy as it is. I had a severe kidney infection in 2019 that almost killed me and left me with stage IV kidney failure. I'll be lucky if I make it another 15 years. I don't want to leave any orphans, especially because of the lifestyle I provide for the animals in my care, and if I hatched out a new duck, it is very likely that it would outlive me. Therefore, unless I can adopt a bird which I am likely to outlive, I can't justify hatching out a new one or adopting a duckling. An older bird which needs a home would be a different story, as would be a bird which had no other options. Thank you for caring. I appreciate it more than you might think.

I rescued a squirrel in the city that was dragging his back legs for 2 days. I fed him wheat thins, bananas, and cashews and kept him in a safe place. After 2 weeks he started using his back legs too. A month later he was back up his tree and every now and then I would see him but he went right back to being wild. Sometimes they just need a safe place and some time to heal. Just like us humans.. only cuter ❤ Uncle Ben, you are the best ever

it’s been a couple months since I checked out a video and wow. The amount of work you put into creating a safe place for as many different animals as you possibly can is unbelievable and being successful at it too. Seeing what you’ve been able to accomplish in just the year I’ve been occasionally watching these videos I’m excited to see what your ranch looks like in a decade.

I'm so glad the bunny is recovering! Our neighbor accidentally stepped on a baby bunny and I attempted to take care of it when I was younger, but because I worked off of family instructions instead of proper ones, I allowed him carrot shavings during recovery(He was just starting to eat solid foods, and my grandmother loved feeding him, so I assumed it was fine), and he ended up getting loose stool from it and passing. When I figured out it was my own fault instead of him being stepped on, I felt absolutely terrible and it's not something I let myself forget, so I always make sure to fully research animal care now that I'm older. Seeing another stepped on bunny getting proper care provided makes my heart warm, I know they can be especially delicate at that age now. I hope all continues to go well!

Patience is the key to the barley method (although oxygenating the water helps). Apparently barley bales dont actually break down already existing algea, but prevent new algea from forming. It takes a few weeks/ months to take effect since you're not only waiting for the process of the barley decomposing to creating hydrogen peroxide, but the current algea to finish its life cycle and die naturally. We're currently trying to clear up our duck pond with barley bales as one of the many methods 😛
Yesterday my pet duck pasted away young. It was very sad as we had in fact rescued her after somebody dumped her and her brother of in the road and a raccoon was attacking them. The brother did not make it but thankfully we got the little sister. She was so sweet and full of joy; always happy to swim and play with us. Sadly though she had an infected narrow in her broken leg(she often stumbled a lot do to a birth condition and when walking broke it)and the vet was unable to save her. We spent the last weeks with her and caring for her with as much love as possible. I truly thank you and hope you have a good life as there is nothing better than saving an animal and it growing with you.
Haven't checked in in a little over 6 months or so, and my god, the span of new animals is thrilling. This made me so happy. It's amazing seeing this little settlement growing.

Thank you for what you do. I only go to Texas for work, but the oilfield impact on the local wildlife hurts me a lot. It’s nice to know people care, I hope I can get into a field that doesn’t impact the environment soon.
Surprised no one has a follow up question yet. How does it affect local wildlife? Is it mainly human expansion into habitats or is there something specific that oil drilling does down there?

I'm so glad the bunny is recovering! Our neighbor accidentally stepped on a baby bunny and I attempted to take care of it when I was younger, but because I worked off of family instructions instead of proper ones, I allowed him carrot shavings during recovery(He was just starting to eat solid foods, and my grandmother loved feeding him, so I assumed it was fine), and he ended up getting loose stool from it and passing. When I figured out it was my own fault instead of him being stepped on, I felt absolutely terrible and it's not something I let myself forget, so I always make sure to fully research animal care now that I'm older.
Seeing another stepped on bunny getting proper care provided makes my heart warm, I know they can be especially delicate at that age now. I hope all continues to go well!

Patience is the key to the barley method (although oxygenating the water helps). Apparently barley bales dont actually break down already existing algea, but prevent new algea from forming. It takes a few weeks/ months to take effect since you're not only waiting for the process of the barley decomposing to creating hydrogen peroxide, but the current algea to finish its life cycle and die naturally. We're currently trying to clear up our duck pond with barley bales as one of the many methods 😛

Yesterday my pet duck pasted away young. It was very sad as we had in fact rescued her after somebody dumped her and her brother of in the road and a raccoon was attacking them. The brother did not make it but thankfully we got the little sister. She was so sweet and full of joy; always happy to swim and play with us. Sadly though she had an infected narrow in her broken leg(she often stumbled a lot do to a birth condition and when walking broke it)and the vet was unable to save her. We spent the last weeks with her and caring for her with as much love as possible. I truly thank you and hope you have a good life as there is nothing better than saving an animal and it growing with you.

Haven't checked in in a little over 6 months or so, and my god, the span of new animals is thrilling. This made me so happy. It's amazing seeing this little settlement growing.
