So unbelievably sweet and fun to watch. But please be careful and keep informed about any avian flu outbreaks in your area. My vet is telling me it's pretty much endemic and its with us now and not going away and there will be more outbreaks. Just a heads - up as waterfowl/ducks are more prone to it (and there are scary things out there about what the feds can and will do in these type of outbreaks that would devastate bird owners). Please take care you and your beautiful sweet duck❤
Why is it when I tell people I'm needy and emotionally dependent they see that as a problem but when a duck is that way it gets free clothing and snacks?
Sorry to burst your bubble a bit, Kallyn, but he raised it from an egg. This means that the duckling that came out of its shell would 'imprint' itself on the first thing it saw, which would be him. From that moment on it would follow him about everywhere he went. If it had been a dog that it saw it would follow the dog about. This is how they make the flying sequences in the wildlife programmes when the canada geese fly along side the powered glider. They are following the pilot that they have imprinted on. I know it's all very cute, and I found it so as well, but that's the reality of the video.😇😍

Ducks don't just pop out of thin air, as with many animals. They start as babies, and if you care for & love them from infancy, you get what you refer to as "trained & obedient".
Back in high school my friend went to our cities China Town and came back with a Baby Duck. He'd tie string to it and go for walks with her down to the marina and let her swim in one shallow little corner on the string, gradually everybody began to know them. His dream was to buy a big yellow American school bus and just travel around the country exploring it and giving hitchhikers or whoever else wants them free lifts. He passed away before his 18th birthday. He had a beautiful soul. I still miss him.
@@daedalus6433 Because they are domesticated. It's basically like stray dogs/cats in cities. We used to have them as pets, messengers (they saved a lot of people during WW) etc. And we thanked them by abandoning them. It's actually quite sad, imagine one day we just decided we don't want dogs anymore and abandoned them outside to fend for themselves. That's why they're in the cities and not in the wild, but their capability to adapt shows their (underrated) inteligence.
@@Ilive_420 got a group of pigeons I feed daily that nest in the area, around 30 or so of them, once a day they land on the roof and I lay some food out for them, have been doing so for around 2 and a half years, I wish others would realise that they are intelligent and affectionate, and aren’t just “winged vermin” like so many are led to believe now, after all, we tear down their homes and then complain when they adapt to living in amongst man made structures we built in their place. This is wonderful! I loved when people brought pets that didn't fit the normal into the store! (I was a pet trainer at PetSmart for years.) I don't think I ever saw such a well-behaved duck! (The young bull was probably the most unusual.)
There is nothing better than seeing how well people tend to respond when you bring unique pets out in public. I take my rats out with me often when I go shopping, and while you get the occasional person that is freaked out (in four years, I can count those on ONE hand..), I've collectively spent HOURS with random people that just want to know all about them, or want to take a picture, etc.
Bro, they have brain the size of a cashew nut and you're deluding yourself into thinking that a duck understands the meaning behind clapping in the same way the humans do. Jesus Christ some people 🙄
@@PhyrexJ What do you mean? I think it's obvious that duck understands a lot. Do you think the duck lacks consciousness? @@Dawlatulislamiyah I'm sorry...it is hard. But they bring so much joy for the short time they are in our lives. You need to cling to those good memories. Praying for healing.
regarding intelligence, birds have a higher neuron density in their brains than mammals, which means small increases in brain volume can result in dramatic increases in intelligence. for example, ravens have a brain the size of a walnut, but the equivalent intelligence of a 5-year-old human and extremely good memory. so yeah, it makes sense that a duck would be rather intelligent by pet standards. not quite primate smart, but pretty dang close.

They need a mix variety of fruit and vegetables and normal seed doesn’t much have that variety as you would think
It’s very unhealthy for only seed
Our birds are constantly eating a mix of fruit and vegetables
And honestly they prefer it more over regular seed
The seed brand we get is Zupreem fruit and vegetables for cockatiels
And parakeet Zupreem for fruit and unfortunately the only type of vegetables Lafeber gourmet pellets
The only reason it’s unfortunate is that it also has fruit in it, more fruit than vegetables so I try to limit that amount so he doesn’t get too much unhealthy sugar from the fruit but also enough benefit from the vegetables
Unfortunately due to having him for about 6-7 years which is close to well his age for living
He hasn’t been well and we can’t afford a vet bill so I’m doing as much as I can for him
I’ve taken care of a special needs parakeet before
Her name was Dove and she was literally as white as snow
So I did good on caring for her constantly as a priority when I immediately got home from school . So she didn’t have to worry about discomfort til she had a stroke
She had seizures so I had to remove her cage pole unfortunately. She constantly fell to the bottom of the cage and her back tail feathers constantly caught her poop. We did what so we carefully trimmed them without hurting her. But unfortunately her neurological problems caught up one day when I got home which was very heart breaking
I loved her a lot
But she died happy she had a smile and still had a healthy mixed diet
I wouldn’t recommend Kaytee at all
We had mice and it killed them til we changed the brand of food so don’t get anything from them
And sand paper poles are horrible for your bird
It causes blisters on their feet and do t get any toys that twine or rope on them like strings
The strings will get in their system and clog their crop and kill them
We threw out those toys immediately when we found out
We wouldn’t sell them cause it’s so dangerous for birds and do t get mirrors for your birds
It will make them aggressive
Had that experience from another parakeet of ours Tiana
She was sweet and loving then turned so aggressive you couldn’t touch her without being bad bit
So that’s my advice for anyone looking to get a bird or already has one
Slightly cool luke warm filtered
Cold water is bad for them
If they get cut and start bleeding get cornstarch or flour to immediately stop and clog the bleeding
Bleeding for birds is extremely dangerous they can bleed to death
Don’t use any type of airsoft spray around them
Cooking, cleaning, hairspray etc. is a big no or something with a strong smell still a big no
Don’t allow any drafts near them meaning a window or air vents
This post isn’t meaning to scare you from buying a bird it’s to inform
Make sure the temperature around them is comfortable
Not too hot or too cold
Don’t cause much stress around them it can hurt their health very bad
Parakeets are difficult to tame but cockatiels are much easier
Millet is ok for special occasions but not constantly
Brand Browns Extreme Natural Millet Spray bird treats
It’s not literal spray
These things can be found on Chewy for very good prices
But please don’t ask about Ducks
I know nothing about them
But the reason I’m giving this information on these birds is sometimes animal employees Petsmart or Petco have no idea what they’re talking about and sometimes their brochures can give very wrong information
I’m not saying some of them don’t know
Some can be correct
And I’m not calling myself a know it all just I’ve read some before getting the animals
I went to a vet page and some of the information in the brochures very wrong
Don’t take Wikipedia anyone can add anything they want to the paragraphs already written
Just make sure the page is verified by a true professional vet
But again these are just advice if you want a bird
Not all birds are the same so please make sure your research is fully correct
This quote is from a page Pittsburg- PEARL Parrot Rescue
“A cage at least twice the bird's wingspan and twice the bird's height from top of head to tip of tail with metal bars spaced close enough to prevent injury…”
There’s more information on their website
But yeah again please do your research first some animals can be more of a beginner than others
I hope this information is helpful and when taming just be patient it’ll take time especially if it’s a rescue
Also if a bird gets overstressed they will also rip out their feathers
Also please don’t smoke around them whether Marijuana or Nicotine or Tobacco
That is very bad for them

So unbelievably sweet and fun to watch. But please be careful and keep informed about any avian flu outbreaks in your area. My vet is telling me it's pretty much endemic and its with us now and not going away and there will be more outbreaks. Just a heads - up as waterfowl/ducks are more prone to it (and there are scary things out there about what the feds can and will do in these type of outbreaks that would devastate bird owners). Sorry to burst your bubble a bit, Kallyn, but he raised it from an egg.
This means that the duckling that came out of its shell would 'imprint'
itself on the first thing it saw, which would be him.
From that moment on it would follow him about everywhere he went. If it had been a dog that it saw it would follow the dog about.
This is how they make the flying sequences in the wildlife programmes when the canada geese fly along side the powered glider. They are following the pilot that they have imprinted on.
I know it's all very cute, and I found it so as well, but that's the reality of the
video.😇😍

Good thing you said “literally”. I’d hate for anyone to think you were speaking rhetorically. Or ironically. Or metaphorically. Thanks for making that distinction.
@Bonus Flaps I was going to ignore this weirdly insulting post from a person I never met, but you seem to be slightly ignorant on how language ebbs and flows, and since you're SUCH an expert, I would hate for you to accidentally embarrass yourself!
According to Merriam-Webster "Over time, literally has taken on a different meaning. We can now use it to exaggerate or emphasize a point."
They also point out actual literary examples on their website, from authors like Charlotte Brontë and James Joyce.

Back in high school my friend went to our cities China Town and came back with a Baby Duck. He'd tie string to it and go for walks with her down to the marina and let her swim in one shallow little corner on the string, gradually everybody began to know them.
