Great vide and really clarifies the issue. I had a similar problem a few month ago, I had fuel pipes replaced by BMW Classic garage. Problem was they didn't tighten up the clips and I kept getting a smell of gas. I drove for 300 miles and eventually decided to figure out the problem - I'm not a mechanic but can use spanners. Anyway found the leak on the left hand side of of engine block where hose wasn't tightened and fixed the problem. However, a few weeks later I was still getting the fuel smell in the car. Did some more investigations and found it was the connection from pipes to rubber hoses on righthand side of engine. It was the plastic connectors. One of them had a slice across the ribs probably done when they were trying to get the hose off. It led to a very light spray. Got replacement from BMW and fixed myself and it runs well. Always check when a garage does work on your vehicle no matter how recommended they are. It's not their car, so they wont car as much as you do. Drive safely
Trying to capture everything on camera is not always easy and makes the job take a lot longer, so I really appreciate the positive feedback on this. Thanks for watching!
That is one of the main reasons I take the time to make these videos! To motivate more people to DIY. Save some money and get to know your car better. Thanks for watching and good luck.
@@NoGaragE30 Thanks man, just had a look and I have a huge slice in the short zig-zaz shaped hose. I’ve been smelling tons of gas coming through the air vents lately. Such a shame cause I just got new wheels and cleaned the E30, but now I can’t drive it till it’s fixed! It’s a 1985 318i, so I was expecting the hose to go bad sooner or later 😂
gracias. fuel line leaks in the engine compartment are very dangerous. like someone else commented, i'd also replace the fuel line that goes from the fuel tank to the fuel filter. thanks for making the video. buena suerte.
THANK YOU!!!! This is exactly what I needed to see. I wouldn't have even thought of pulling the #11 fuse. My E30 developed its fuel hose leak on the interstate yesterday. I could see the fuel gauge go down by the foot, not the mile! Half a tank of gasoline in 43 miles. Great video. Pretty E30!!
The long fuel feed line that lead from engine to the pump that was replaced, do you have the part number for that hose? I noticed you cut it down to size, was it an after market hose? dimensions/specs? Thanks
Check the upper and lower vacuum elbows that are on the throttle body. Your upper appears to be coming out of the throttle body. This is super common on the M20 B25 engines. It allows a small vacuum leak and will affect performance. These elbows have splines and are press fit into the throttle body and over time they can work themselves loose. Best to use a sealant of some type after pressing them back into the throttle body.
Help!! I changed my 1990 325i m20 2.5L inline six with a new fuel filter and now it won’t start. Ran fine before. Didn’t touch anything else. Any ideas?
Dude, cool vid but can i just say. If you have a tear in your hose , it can be fuel hose hydraulic line what ever. You will never have pressure in it. Why? Cause u already have a tear where the pressure leaks out with your fluid! :D Just keep that in mind !
These lines ended up failing after some time as well, spraying gas inside the engine bay again. Im now using cloth braided 6Bar lines that are much better quality and stronger than the CRP lines I used on this video.
I will give that a try. I had the cluster out not long ago and replaced all odometer gears but the odo is still stuck! I've been wanting to take it out again just to check if I messed up with one of the gears. Now I have another reason to do it I guess, thanks!
Finally someone who shows the actual work needed to do the job!

I love how I could actually see everything you were talking about and everything made sense. I wish I could do this under 12 min like in the video lol

Man, you make it look so easy!
Giving me mad confidence to do this myself instead of getting screwed by Firestone.

Just finished the job, was super straight forward thanks to you! Thanks again dude.

Still have the fuel tank line on my todo list.
I know its old, but really well done video! No BS.
this video saved my life all the other videos have the filter under there cars an i absolutely couldn't find mine
Glad I could help.

Excellent video, mine also leaks from the same location. Glad it's a simplish fix.
Get it fixed asap. It is a relatively simple fix for something that can be catastrophic. Glad the video helps!
thank you for making your e30 videos!!
Glad you like them. More to come!

thanks for this. I'm hoping this is what is wrong with my e30
thank you bro... !! from Indonesia
Your videos are awesome - thanks for these, so helpful 👌
Music to my ears. Thanks for watching!
What a great video love to see it.
I have this model but the gasoline goes to motor oil it has passed you

Fair point. The fuse trick is probably a good idea anyways to help empty the lines.
How many meters of that 16121176440 do I need? it is sold in 1 meter sections 🤔. is this hose used anywhere else on the car if i buy extra?
I got the 5 meter CRP brand that was only like $10 more than 1 meter of OEM hose. I probably used less than 2 meters for this job though.
Gotta replace my hose…said by many man a time or two in life
I have the same car and it continues to give me the same issue

Excelente trabajo, Thanks!!
Pro tip : watch series on flixzone. I've been using them for watching all kinds of movies recently.
@Jude Jad definitely, have been watching on Flixzone} for years myself =)
@Jude Jad yup, I have been using flixzone} for years myself =)

What year is your car?
'89
Where did you get the parts from ?
Got the Bosch filter from ecstuning.com and the rest from fcpeuro.com part numbers in video description
Nice video
Thanks!
thanks very helpful
now you just need the hoses above the gas tank lol.
Oh yes, I have not even looked under the seats yet. My fuel gauge is jumping all over the place too so should check sender unit as well.
@@NoGaragE30 take the cluster out and sand the little nut behind the fuel gauge.

I often find it a waste of time replacing it with OEM
you mean a waste of money? which part exactly?
@@NoGaragE30 lines mainly waterlines, M20 is Terribly hot silicone would be potentially setting her up for a Better future
These are fuel lines though! Can't use silicone for fuel. You definitely dont want to mess with that.
@@NoGaragE30 oh okay, you know how I can get the part number for the metal lines you connected to the rubber ones? Mine got smashed in by a lift :/
I always use a site like bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E30/ to find part numbers. Check it out.
