The Daiwa Legalis LT 3000 was my first Daiwa after 20 years on Shimano reels. I'm glad I changed because with the Shimano's they started out great, but gradually they ware out. I fish 5 days a week and my get gets used a lot, so I notice when things start to wear. The average casual fisher probably would not notice. So far, the Lagalis has performed like a $300 reel. Great again. If the reel is the same the SLP Works Black C2000s extra spool will make it look almost all black and perhaps make the reel color a little more acceptable.
@@ifishcatfish Well I must admit I don't know how to set up a link but ALL PRO, ALL STAR, West Fishing store on aliexpress have them. Would you want me to send you one as a gift? I bought 4 of them,
I've been using a 2500 legalis as my finesse bass reel. 1/8oz jigs and 6 pound test. I haven't really noticed the flex issue that you mentioned, but I suppose this new model would still be an improvement, especially with some larger equipment.

Great video, Does the place of manufacture affect the quality of this reel? Vietnam China, Or Japan.. I love how you compare that, in my county always promote revros Lt, but i can understand from you legalis family much better for Ultraligh. Thanks for sharing that..
@@ifishcatfish @i_fish i am agree with you, with mediocre materials it's not worth it with the price. great explanation about legalis, so does the place legalis are manufakture, made in Japan or china or Vietnam maybe affect the quality of this reel? Or its doesn't metter?
I'm always recommending your channel to people who ask me a bunch of questions about rods and reels. Also to people who think they know what they are talking about!! Lol
There is a large fishing channel called salt strong. These guys used to recommend and sell the fuego and salt water fishing is their thing. Now that it's harder to get the fuego they are recommending legalis lt even in the salt. What are your thoughts on this?
No, legalis will seize from salt soon, unless you put a lot of effort to keep it clean. Best value for salt is the new ultegra, that I reviewed. Nasci and Fuego are also good, but the new Ultegra is well worth the money if u fish salt
So I had to open up both my 2017 Legalis for cleaning yesterday. One is a few years old, the other I got about a year and a half ago. I noticed on the newest one that the main gear looked different. It has these white dots on it. When I looked at the number on the bottom of the rotor the newer one has a V2 at the end of the numbers. Because of the slightly different looking main gear, and the V2 at the end of the numbers I'm wondering if Daiwa made two versions of the 2017 Legalis
Greetings from Germany and thanks for this and many other Videos you made, it helped me to make some decisons, but I have a question. There is another big and traditionally japanese reel manufacturer RYOBI, do you have any experience with this reels, my local dealer means it is good as Daiwa or Shimano.
All ryobi reels in last 10 years seem to be made in China. Their quality is typical chinese quality. They used to be top of the line reels, together with DAM. Now both DAM and Ryobi just resell reels from China, I think. Maybe they design them and the chinese make them... i don't know. but their reels are not what they used to be. I could be wrong though, i am not 100% sure, but everything i have seen recently is from china. Send me link to particular product if u think it is made in japan. I am curious myself.
I did not know that trick for stopping the free play on a hex shaft reel. That’s a lot of the reason I didn’t get a Regal LT. I went with an Exceler LT and a Fuego LT for the direct drive handles they have that just thread into the drive gears.
for what? Bluegill? Crappie? Jig? Float? there is so many variables. I have a whole playlist with budget ultralight rods, depending on how u fish. Shakespeare Mirco Light and Daiwa Presso are up there
Rob b. Give him information on your fishing targets and favorite lures , your budget, and your transportation requirements, and he will make a great recommendation. I have seen many Thank you's for his recommendations.
Thanks for the response, I was thinking more crappie and the occasional white bass ,in the 6’6ft Length, UL-light action, $50-150, 2 piece. Can’t remember the last time I saw the daiwa presso rod on stock. I used to use last king calamus rods until I flipped my kayak, now they no longer sell the model.
Adding to the rod question. Looking to get Legalis or Regal for my 10 and 14 year old kids. Shore fishing from lake (occasional trip on pap’s boat) for trout, bluegill, and small bass. Need a good all-arounder that works for them. Just discovered your channel and now I am down the rabbit hole!
Another potential reason not to get the Revros is that it weighs more. Lifting the Legalis and Regal spools compared to the same sized Revros spool is very noticeable - at least in 2000 size.
@@ifishcatfish I don't have a Revros reel to compare, but according to the Daiwa specs on their site, the Revros is heavier. I do, however, have Revros spools that I use as spares for my same-sized Legalis and Regal reels, and the Revros spools are thicker and heavier.
I dont know what daiwa says, but Revros LT and Legalis LT is the same reel. You can take that to the bank. There is no difference in anything, only one bearing missing.
I was talking for 5 minutes that all reels in the Legalis LT family are same. Every part. If I make a video about Exceller i would have to repeat everything i said in this video. If you missed it in the video - Exceller is Legalis with a screw-in handle instead of hex shaft handle
The 2021 CS LT Legalis on Ali does not have blue spool but has a much better spool almost completely black and looks better than it ever did. The real chrome piece at the rear of the body is the only question about its appearance.
One change with the new model is that the 2500 now has the larger handle of the 3000, where I believe the old version's 2500 shared the more compact handle shape of the 1000 and 2000 models. This might be a positive for some people. However, I found the larger handle to be too bulky for my style of fishing.
Omg I can hear the sickness in your voice! Can you breath? Also, I love that trick to fix free play, do you have a trick for the Shimano Vanford haha? And I totally agree about the blue, terrible color to try and match with!
Adding extra washer on the main gear really helped remove free play in the gears, but also added some resistance, Nd i ended up opening and removing it. I cant stand resistance in my vanford
2500 is too small for pack bait. Also you should never under any circumstances use braid for carp fishing. Only mono. 0.30 to 0.35mm diameter. I don't care what pound it says on the spool, but this is the optimal diameter for both strength and casting distance. But i would get a 4000 size reel for carp fishing. Otherwise you are just torturing the drive train. Especially if you are unexperienced and try to pull the fish with the reel
they are not washers, but shims. You can put them under the spool, if you want your spool to sit higher. I just made a video about this a month ago, you should watch it.
@@ifishcatfish it says Zion V on frame and rotor.. colors are black, some king of "brownich" and light gold...No more gold spool... if you want to know more... go on Amazon.fr and do a "Legalis 2020 LT" research...
i think i'll love my new 2500D-XH if i can get a new rotor for this legalis. it arrived new with a split rotor. could have returned it, but due to popularity, did not think i'd get a replacement for awhile. love these vids--liked and subscribed.
Another good review. I haven't seen the new Regal LT yet. Hopefully it'll be released soon. I'm waiting on the new Exceler LT to come to the US. It looks like a nice reel. I did purchased several piscifun carbon x and a kastking zephyr to try out. I told myself, would never buy off brands. But they intrigued me and were fairly inexpensive, so what the heck. So far I like them okay.
There was a Regal LT released last year (i have review on it), so i dont expect another release in the next 2 years... I buy junk out of curiosity too. The truth is that even chinese reels today are better than top brands 20 years ago and definitely can be fished without problem, even if they are not as good as daiwa and shimano
What do u mean about the ball bearing in exceller model ? Is exceller better than legalis ? Umentioned something about the ballbearing in handle ? I dnt understand which one is better 😔😔
this video compares 2021 vs 2017 legalis, no comparison with Exceller. There is already a new Legalis, and i have a comparison of the 2023 vs the previous, if u want to see that.
Forgive me if I’ve asked you this already, but have you tried any of the Piscifun reels? I have 2 of their bait cast reels (a cheap one and what was their top of the line, still available on Ali Express) and 2 of their Carbon X spinning reels. I heard a rumor the Carbon X is made on the same frame as a Daiwa Tatula, but I don’t own one or know anyone who does to compare them. I love my 1000 size Carbon X and since I’ve purchased mine they came out with a 500 size also.
i have tried some but about 3 years ago. They all felt like the typical chinese stuff. Not a bad value, if this is your price range, but nothing they have compares to a daiwa legalis. They make some baitcasters too now, and those are actually more competitive, if you are looking for baitcasters. But at the end, i think daiwa and shimano offer not just better quality, but even better value, if you consider everything, including resale value.
Ya i recently bought the carbon x 1000 size. Compared to my daiwa, okuma and shimano reels it is garbage. Rough, grindy and not smooth drag at all. Compared to my Pfleuger president reels they are just bad. I used mine for about 3 trips and returned it to piscifun. If you think they are smooth, don't buy a better reel and stick with it and stop going down the rabbit hole with better reels. Be happy with it and don't listen to any other reviews of higher end reels. If it works for you, keep with it. I have several higher end reels and it does not fit up to my standards. When i was catching a 4-6oz bluegill it was embarrasingly rough.
Could you please tell me how many yds. of 6# monofilament each spool can hold. I_ actually fish with 4# but this will give me an idea of their spool size. Thankyou, & I really like watching your videos too when I'm shopping for another reel. Heard there's a New Daiwa Reel coming out around December according to a local fishing supply. If there is one then I'll check out your video when it comes out. Aloha🌴🎣🏄♂️
if im not mistaken, there is one more new model of legalis..CS model 2021...what is the difference between cs model compare with the blue one?what is the CS stand for?
there is no other models in united states. If you are shopping in Aliexpress you are buying the chinese version. I have not seen those and dont know the difference.
Nice review, but are the looks and sounds really so importnat? I'd rather hear more details about the geras or the drag system. And those minimal weight differences?! Tell the people rathter, that if 15 g matters, than they should better not wear a watch on their hand. But still a great review! Thanks!
different things are of different importance for everyone. I don't disagree with your arguments but you can't make everyone happy so i just talk about what i am partial to
Great video very detailed, cool info about the handle. Very pleased that I picked up 2 of the old legalis 1000d and 6,6 presso rods from watching your videos. Funny comment about blue to sabotage the reel
Do you have a full teardown video. I had my reel outside went inside for a couple of hours when i came out it was on thr floor. Now theres a weird sound like something is lose.
I really like the change to the blue. Working in a fishing store, I got so tired of black/gold and gray/gold combos. It just seems so washed out and overdone.
@@ifishcatfish I just bought the UL combo. Quite well balanced. Haven't found any reviews of the combo, but it's just what I was looking for. Under $100. Smooth casting 1/8 oz Rapala lures about 25 yards or so.
I have two of each of these 1000 reels: 2021 Legalis, Tatula, Bullistic, Nasci, CI4, Vanford. I noticed that the Legalis creates more line twists from just normal reeling in line than the others. I am using 2lb test line on all my reels. Do you notice that?
i dont agree with the premise that the reel is creating the line twist. The reel cannot twist line under normal operation. Look very closely how the line is going through the line roller. Even if the bearing or bushing is stuck, it will rub the line, but NOT twist it. Twist is created when u have lures that spin in the water, or when you turn the handle at the same time the drag is paying line. So it is either caused by the lure, or by the operator. Reels cannot create line twist
So, is the BG (not MQ version) worth buying in 2021 and compared to the Legalis family? I can get it for roughly the same price as a Legalis. Mostly going to be fishing around shoreline salt water.
its still a great reel. I usually recommend it for catfish and carp. It is kind of heavy for ultralight fishing, but if you fish for bigger fish , then definitely. BG is not that well protected from salt.. you have to keep it clean
@@ifishcatfish Thanks. Race is down to a BG or a Legalis or an Exceler. Guess I'll be taking a few more trips down to the tackle shops. This will be my first ever purchase of fishing tackle. Had my mind blown the first time I went into a tackle shop.
Hey. I ordered a 2021 legalis 2500 (european model) and returned it for having too much freeplay in the handle. I though it was just that unit. Ordered a 2021 legalis 2000, same problem. Tried your trick with 6pound line, did nothing. I think the freeplay is in gears. Do you have solution on that or should i return this also, really love the black/gold color.. I have regal lt 3000 on my zander rod and it has zero freeplay on the handle. I have tried the new models, fuego, exceler and all of them have huge amount of freeplay in the handle, i dont know whats wrong with the new models.. Thinking about returning this 2021 legalis 2000 also and buying regal lt 1000-2000 size for perch because it has zero freeplay but im not fan of the colour. Thanks for great reviews
i only bought the 1000 size, and after the trick with the line 80% of free play is gone. Still some left, but i would say for 60$ reel its more than acceptable. Have not played with the bigger models yet, but did not expect them to have so much free play. Maybe try with 10 lb mono, if you feel there is still free play. The gears cannot have much back and forth free play. They have in and out free play, which can be adjusted with an extra washer on the main gear.
@@ifishcatfish Tried with 10lb line and still pretty much the same, there is freeplay in the handle knob also and you can feel it when reeling, maybe im just too picky with my fishing gear. Let me know if you try the new 2000+ lt family in tackle shop or something. New models are also much louder when spinning the reel, maybe its because there is not much grease in the gears like you said in the video. Cheers!
if you read my message again, the line will fix only back and forth free play. In and out (axial) free play can be fixed with a shim on the main gear. But these are the only two kinds of free play that you can fix. you cannot fix radial free play, but i have never noticed much radial free play in these reels. Not in new ones anyway. As for louder... grease made my reel feel softer and nicer.. but still .. it was never loud when brand new.. Maybe you do have a bad apple. It is not rare to have poor quality in these reels, especially the ones you buy on ebay, or through discount retailers. Somehow those reels always have more noise than the ones where u pay full retail from legit store.
@@ifishcatfish Ok. Ordered a another 1000 size to test it if my unit is bad. I think the freeplay in the handle knob itself is more annoying because you can feel it clunking when reeling, handle freeplay you dont notice that much when reeling. btw have you seen the new shimano nasci fc with silentdrive, 5+1BB and screw in handle, look pretty good also, almost like stradic fl
is this something new? Daiwa made some reels for Bass Pro 5 years ago, before the Daiwa LT line came out. Bass pro is still selling them, and they are good reels, if the weight doesn't bother you. But the new LT reels are just as good and lighter.
So comparing about the frame between new Legalis vs Shimano Sahara, which one is more durable in saltwater? I want to buy one of these two in 3000 size.
Thanks for this video which helped me to decide buying new reels (been a long time late 80’s) the older ones I was used to and still use occasionally because all the newer models were way too pricey for me. I did get lucky at Pawn shops Daiwa BG, Fuego, Penn Persuit iii each at or under $40 used in the 2500 sizes not fished too hard. Now the Laguna LT 3000-C ($35 new) you didn’t mention but I like so a bid on a clean, used (braid) spooled Legalis LT 2500D (2017) for $38 I’m hoping is a steal? Especially if they really haven’t changed in the newer models, I’ll enjoy my newer “up-cycled” reels the fish really don’t know or care how much I spend! lol 😂 Florida Tampa Bay Gulf Coast inshore fishing. We need more info on affordable saltwater reels that are worth buying.
@@ifishcatfish Any knowledge on the Shimano NEXAVE? 2500HG beautiful condition, spooled with braided line $20 + (low) shipping. I'll have to open it up & test it out to really know but I think that's a good deal (Sienna 2500HG I was eyeballing) I never owned Shimano gear it was too pricey for me for moderate fishing. Thanks!
I rushed out and got a legalis lt on your recommendation. When tightening the handle and the cap it seems to have a gap and neither the handle or the cap is sitting flush against the body. Is this normal or am I making an error? 9:55 I can see the gaps on yours too.
all reels have gap there, even the ones that screw in. Even $400 reels. Also, if you overtighten the knob, in some reels the gears will start feeling rough. Do not overtighten that knob. It is plastic anyway and not supposed to be tightened too much
I'm curious about the line roller are these two models the same. Want to know for a bearing replacement I ordered the one for the older model but it's going on the 2021.
Like is said, everything else is the same, including line rollers. And the bushing in the line roller is not easy to replace. U have to remove too many parts to replace it and then water will be going in all the time and your bearing will seize.
@@ifishcatfish thanks, I'm hoping I'm somewhat covered since I got a hybrid bearing I would have gone with a full ceramic but the last one I got made a lot of racket.
@@ifishcatfish I guess I'll just throw it in the trash when I get it then since you say there's no hope. Do you toss the bearings that already come in reels you buy since absolute failure is guaranteed?
To note revros frame is sturdier than legalis. I have revros and exceler revros no flex exceler flexes really bad at 3000 size when reeling in 21-25g cast master
I agree. The revros LT frame is completely graphite and much thicker. Hence is weight much more too. But there is very little stem flex to worry about. I had models 1000, 2000 and 3000. They were smooth but heavy.
Great Video worth the wait. I'll miss the Presso Copper colour scheme. That is remanucent to the Hardy Altex 1935ish the first automatic bail on a spinning reel. Mine still works but lacks sophistication of today's spinning reels. Never the less it looks like a work of art. I noticed a few mint ones for sale from Japan and wonder if Daiwa used them for styling cues in the the Presso and 2017 Legalis. The Hardy cost a months pay so makes the Lt line up a great value. I also have a older Daiwa El 1655H which has a a super wide reel sten and no flex back in 1980's so the engineer's knew about the flex way back then. Zinc gears aren't a bad thing if you're a modern Daiwa 2000 onward. I could live with the Blue accent as it matches my boat. Anyways I agree pick your colour not your bearing count. Tight Lines to ya.
there is no difference between THIS daiwa and Sedona. If you buy daiwa over $200, yes, hard to even open. But this one is virtually identical to the Sedona, but it has a couple important bearings that the Sedona doesn't have. The bearing that supports the pinion gear is present here. In the sedona the pinion gear is shoved in the frame, no bearing. Not nice. Also here you have a bearing in the line roller. Reduces resistance, nice. Sedona line roller runs on a bushing. Buying Sedona over this is a significant mistake, as the Sedona is more expensive, but mechanically inferior.
I wonder if the new color of the legalis is to align its looks with the older saltiga model.... have a look at the old saltiga, and let me know if you see the similarities. That being said, I thought the old saltiga was on the unattractive side.
maybe they look similar but i dont think the designers would consider something like that. I think they actually sell a Legalis rod in Europe, and they try to match it with that

I have the Legalis LT 2500 -17 and the Fuego LT 1000 -21, but both don't put on the line beautifully. I don't know why these reels are praised by this n00b. The reels should be avoided.
i dont know why i'm helping a turd with such attitude, but u need to learn about shimming, and then u probably use too thick line that doesn't fit in the spool. This reel lays line perfectly - look all my videos
I believe the same model in Europe looks like this instead and they are all called 20 models instead of 21 in US for some reason. www.daiwa.com/scandinavia/contents/reels/20_legalis_lt/index.html

@@ifishcatfish thanks for all the tips.
It's a great channel you have here.
I went with an Exceler LT and a Fuego LT for the direct drive handles they have that just thread into the drive gears.
doesn't matter at all, once u put some mono in there. Honesty even without the mono its hard to tell when u r on the water
Excellent video , can you please recommend a ultralight rod to pair with the Legalis 2000?
for what? Bluegill? Crappie? Jig? Float? there is so many variables.
@@jimscott4552 thanks , I just responded.
Revros LT weighs the same as Legalis LT, as it IS Legalis LT, without one bearing. You may be talking about the old Revros (NON LT)
Great. I was planning to buy the 4000 series. Please compare the new n old version of Exceler too
I was talking for 5 minutes that all reels in the Legalis LT family are same.
However, I found the larger handle to be too bulky for my style of fishing.
good info. I have this problem with a 2500 stella that i am testing and not liking the big knob at all
You have a comparison from the 21 model and the 23 model jdm model
there is no other model, is there. I have not seen 2023 Legalis in USA. Have yhou?
@ifishcatfish I thought the jdm legalis is the 23 model. The one with the gold arm thats one solid piece.
@@ifishcatfish That helped remove free play in the handle? I just hate the fact it wiggles a little and I can hear it when I reel.
I have a bps panfish elite rod planning on grabbing this in a 1000 size. Should be a hell of a good looking combo 😉
@@rommel2695 i know that rod. Has great components but the tip is a little slow somehow. But would be a great pair for this new legalis
At the end of the video. Неплохо поймал, рыба вышла на глиссер 😄 Лучший reviewer on TH-cam, пересматриваю ролики several times.
haha, finally somebody saw that..
Look at the frame more carefully - in 2021 it is more solid at all. Look at distances between mechanism and the frame.
I received a Regal 2500 per your recommendation and it's super smooth. What type of braided line would you recommend to cast pack bait for distance?
2500 is too small for pack bait. Also you should never under any circumstances use braid for carp fishing. Only mono. 0.30 to 0.35mm diameter. I don't care what pound it says on the spool, but this is the optimal diameter for both strength and casting distance. But i would get a 4000 size reel for carp fishing. Otherwise you are just torturing the drive train. Especially if you are unexperienced and try to pull the fish with the reel
Hey that blue spool is nearly the exact blue on my rod :p
My 2000 LT came with a 3-pack of plastic washers. What are these for? Ron
they are not washers, but shims. You can put them under the spool, if you want your spool to sit higher. I just made a video about this a month ago, you should watch it.
Hello I ran into a 2020 Legalis LT version (european market) that is not blue but standard colors... any idea about this version?
its the same reel, but not sure which frame its using - plastic or Zaion V. Let me know if you can see that on the box.
@@ifishcatfish it says Zion V on frame and rotor.. colors are black, some king of "brownich" and light gold...No more gold spool... if you want to know more... go on Amazon.fr and do a "Legalis 2020 LT" research...

@@ifishcatfish yes Victor, but with a blue/silver color scheme instead of "brownish"/gold, BTW the 2500 knob is the large one on my 2020 Legalis!!!
Ooooh, I see that actually, it looks kinda nice and matches my rod really well, I wish I saw this earlier before I bought a Vanford haha.
i think i'll love my new 2500D-XH if i can get a new rotor for this legalis. it arrived new with a split rotor. could have returned it, but due to popularity, did not think i'd get a replacement for awhile. love these vids--liked and subscribed.

Hello! What the difference between Legalis CS LT and Legalis LT? 2021
Color
I thought you meant there was a new version coming out.
I am aware of the current model Regal LT.
I have four of them- two 1000 and two 2000 size.
Looks like Daiwa has also updated the Exceler over seas to the Zaion V. I hope it come to the US market soon. 20EXLT1000 20EXLT2000
yeah, they did, for europe. I dont know if they already have the reel why don't they just send it here.
If there is one then I'll check out your video when it comes out.

all new reels came out already. The only new one is Revelry, but that is offered only in Australia. Unless u want to buy from there...
if im not mistaken, there is one more new model of legalis..CS model 2021...what is the difference between cs model compare with the blue one?what is the CS stand for?
there is no other models in united states.
Funny comment about blue to sabotage the reel
well i can tell from your comment you watched the whole thing : )

No, i don't, but this reel has 5 parts. It is the same as all reels under $100, they all have the same design

do spools for Legalis 20 interchange with 17 Models? Any other compatible models for 17 series?
Yes they are. But will look ugly

I can see the gaps on yours too.
all reels have gap there, even the ones that screw in.

If you're on budget, try to buy shimano sedona 1000 reel its so easy for maintenance unlike daiwa who comolicates everything.
there is no difference between THIS daiwa and Sedona.
