Let's turn this into a massive series for TH-cam! Join our crowdfunding campaign ► tinyurl.com/bwturbex
This is the pilot episode of a series we want to produce called "Balkan Detours - Tales of Exploration". In three seasons, we will take you on a compelling and genuine road trip through the Balkan countries. We experience the aftermath of the recent wars firsthand, immerse ourselves in forgotten and disregarded worlds and have random encounters on the way. We need your help to realize this format. Learn more by following the link at the top!

Excited to see this as I visited Zagreb, Croatia in 1995 during the war. It was calm when I went, sadly fighting broke out 2 weeks in and I had to fly back to Holland for the rest of my vacation. I had been visiting a friend who I gone to high school with for 3 years then she left once the war broke out (1992) as her mom was a medic and had to work for the war. She wanted to stay with her mom. She was in medical school. Can you imagine trying to study medicine while at war? They’d have days and weeks of missed classes due to air raids and bombings, fighting, the threat of it.. today she is a neurologist, married with a child.

I explored the base a second time last month - the first time was in 2017. The difference was staggering! Most of the immediate area is clear of land mines and foliage, so it's become very touristy. We did a lot of light painting long exposure photography in the tunnels which was fun. And we encountered multiple border patrols with each in different vehicles. Looking forward to this video!

GUYS!!! That was INCREDIBLE!!! War is horrible. Hard to believe all that money was spent for that. Such a waste; and now look at what's left. Thank you so much for the tour. I'd certainly never get to see that without someone like you to show it to me! I hope everyone who sees this gets the point.

First thing about your pilot video, the border Police refugee moment feels baited for views.
I feel it was completely unnecessary for you to show us that, no less act as if its such an issue that you NEED to go to the police of both border nations and tell them " Hey we're just shooting a documentary, we're just 6-7 obviously white German dudes who speak fluent German and we feel the need to let you know we're NOT refugees, not like we're saying anything but, just letting you know"
It came off as massively out of touch, and gives questions to your personal points of view and your legitimacy as documentarians.
Documentaries have a responsibility to be objective, not cater towards your personal biases, you want a better cut of your "documentary" or be taken seriously as legitimate documentarians like say "Louis Theroux" then try not to bait like that.
It was incredibly distasteful to start like that

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Obviously, pushbacks and blocking people from entering the EU is illegal and unhuman. But this video is about a different topic: it documents our journey into the abandoned airbase. Locals and other explores were questioned on-site by police again and again because they were suspected to be refugees. Others recommended we'd check with the police beforehand. We show this part in the video because it turned out to be hilariously akward. Coming from Germany, we're super privilaged, and each day of traveling outside of Western Europe and exploring different cultures, we realize it more. This section of the video was definietly planned to go into a different direction than you perceived it, or maybe it's just the language barrier. We will work on improving our way of storytelling to prevent such misunderstandings.

BWT I agree with you. Many mainstream documentaries include situations like what Ryukushin is mentioning. But you are not mainstream - you are BWT which has different and unique ways of doing things. By showing the Police interaction shows your concern to be doing the correct procedure and not getting yourselves into trouble by entering what could be a sensitive area or to be mistaken for refugees. @@bwturbex

Exceptionally well produced. Clear narration, interesting, informed background context. Well recorded under very difficult lighting conditions.
Be careful on these types of locations. Tunnels are very dangerous, in complex tunnels it is easy to get disoriented and lost, also you should be wearing protection: hard hats, breathing apparatus - all those unknown contaminants - especially left over stuff from war supply. An incredible insight into a location I knew nothing of.
The constant wars we hear of all the time - orchestrations of the world geopolitical chess game - but to see the reality of what billions of dollars creates and wastes in the process is mind-boggling.

I wondered which lights you use and how many lumens are lights. I was there 10 years ago and I had too weak lights and tried to get in with a car but it was impossible then, but last week I was there and went inside with the car easily.
