Pro tips for colder climates:
- Wool clothes close to the skin (socks, shirt, underpants). I'm serious - only wool is good enough. Don't fall for any synthetic shit. Absolutely NO cotton!
- Dress in layers. Two or three, thin layers is warmer than one thick piece of clothing. Also easier to regulate temp.
- If you start to sweat - undress, ventilate.
- Make sure you pack sleeping bags and everything you want to keep dry in plastic bags etc.
- If you get wet, change out of wet clothes ASAP.
Ref: military background in arctic climates
whats so bad about cotton?
@@dizzyguy7423 Cotton absorbs moisture and traps it next to the skin, drawing out body heat. It also insulates badly and is very hard to get dry. Wool can get wet but will still insulate so you won't get as cold, and it dries super fast.
@@Phergan oh wow i never knew that, thanks for the reply
@@Phergan whats wrong with the synthetic shit, and is the multiple thin layers better then the 1 thick layer better because the multiple layers means more heat being trapped?

Small tip from a former Dutch Army specialist: use a poncho to pack around your backpack when crossing a river. This way you can swim and push your back pack like a boat in front of you and guarantee dry closed when crossed!
Good luck with future crossings!

For those curious about the term "stalker" it's a reference to a dope Tarkovsky film "stalker" about a place similar in vibe to chernobyl called "the zone". men are said to be granted their one true desire at the center of it
Roadside Picnic (alien disaster event that has changed the rules of reality) stalkers -> Stalker (unspecified bizarre abandoned location that doesn't follow the rules of reality) stalker -> S.T.A.L.K.E.R (chornobyl alternate timeline with psychomagic) stalkers.
The term is now widespread across fiction, I saw it used the other day watching Fear The Walking Dead to refer to scavenging survivors of a nuclear event.
The true origin would be a stalker meaning a hunter, someone who slowly stalks their goal across nature while attempting to be one with nature.
@@SideQuestStories Eyyyy fear the walking dead

For those curious, here is a chart about radiation exposure
Radiation reading, millisievert (mSv) | Event
10,000.00 | Single dose, fatal within weeks
6,000.00 | Typical dosage recorded in those Chernobyl workers who died within a month
5,000.00 | Single does which would kill half of those exposed to it within a month
1,000.00 | Single dosage which would cause radiation sickness, including nausea, lower white blood cell count. Not fatal.
1,000.00 | Accumulated dosage estimated to cause a fatal cancer many years later in 5% of people

I was also wondering why stalkers don't use NVG. I can think of several reasons. I'm from Eastern Europe and these high-end military things are quite expensive for civilians, especially in the current Ukraine. Security would also confiscate them immediately if they were caught. In addition, you need a platform for attachment. Apparently even charging would be a problem, most of them are Chinese copies and don't last as long as the originals. Headlamps with a red light are far more pragmatic under these conditions, they have already proven their worth several times during my similar illegal trips, they cannot be seen at a great distance.

@@luzooom The Chernobyl Accident of 1986. In a nutshell, in the early hours of April 26th, 1986, a group of engineers under supervision of Anatoly Dyatlov were conducting a safety test on the fourth reactor. The USSR had designed their own reactor type from the ground up, called an RBMK, which was a water-cooled, graphite moderated reactor that was installed in nuclear power plants throughout the USSR. However, the RBMK was cheaply designed, and with that came some flaws that could cause catastrophic results. In the case of Chernobyl, the RBMK they were conducting the test on exploded after going through a power surge. Combining the flawed reactor with the lack of a containment vessel in the building, the second explosion breached the building and sent radiation into the atmosphere, most of that was carried by north by winds into Belarus.

Seeing bed pans strewn, kids toys, crib and small beds really humanize how awful it must have been to wake up and realize that your life was no longer the same. It makes you wonder how many people never saw their loved ones again or if they did survive the radiation how much longer did they live after the event. I think many lives were cut short. Not trying do educate you or something, because iam pretty sure you informed yourself about it before the trip. But for potential viewers that might take this as an example : the thing with the radiation is a bit tricky, since different environments soak it up better than others. So here are some points:
Earth and Grass in general can be more contaminated than the asphalt road. Look out for that.
Especially moss and mushrooms soak it up like crazy. So always, literally, before you sit down, check the space where you want to sit down. Not in the air bot right at ground at the spot your ass will be. It can be 0.14 a meter in the air but the moss itself has 0,40 all of a sudden for example.
That being said, it doesn't mean that it has to be that way, but it could be so be aware of it and check it.
Next: the thing about those villagehouses is, the dust in it could be contaminated as well. Although in those old wooden cabins it is unlikely due to the weathercircumstances, but if a little house has no cracked /open windows, it could be that the dust in it never got exchanged by the wind. And than you basically take a night full of radiation right into your lungs. Doesn't has to be high to give you huge problems 20 years later. So make sure you check the dosimeter or if you are unsure, take a place where it's obvious that the dust isn't from the 80s.
Also: it could be that under those wooden planks are mushrooms or moss, so again check the place where you wanna lie down.
Trees are also kind of random since their roots reach down the earth where radiation could've settled in little spots, so some trees are highly contaminated while others aren't.
And last but not least (although I guess that's basic knowledge) :
The less the better
Goes for radiation and time spent in those areas in general. It's not like you grow a third eye a week after, but being too long at too high radiation will give you plenty of cruel health issues that mostly lead to a painful death. There are enough documentaries about police/securitymen working in the zone that will show some of the results. Of course they work there every day and that's not the case when you take a 4 days trip. But sitting down on a high radiation moss pit can turn down your chances of getting kids one day.
Also, again a disclaimer : I don't want to take the fun and awesome scenery of this adventure away and I don't want to educate someone like a elderly wise guy that iam not.
But since I know how some people act nowadays and go on "a trip like someone in a TH-camvideo" without knowing anything about potential risks, besides from being caught, I thought it might be a good point. And also for those who don't plan to go there illegal, since some of those points are not well known.
Besides that, I love your videos, you carry me through the lockdown. Hope you are doing well. Be safe.
Legend
Thanks
Better safe than sorry, thanks for sharing!☢

@K-Source ???!
@K-Source I mean that this is a typical harsh flu but the media and governments are overreacting. Bird flu was a novel corona virus. Swine flu was a novel corona virus... Our freedoms are slowly being removed to make room for false safety and eventually total control of our lives. They want to know where we are at all times and know who we associate with because they supposedly want to keep us "safe" but they let cigarettes kill more people than covid without an issue... the governments don't care if some of us die but they can use our fear of death to further their power and control.
When you talked about someone who were "hooting"
It could be other stalkers alerting people (non authorative personnel)
In some cultures, "hooting" is a way of letting others know (sneakily) that police or security is around/near

Yo Shiey, quick tip in case you need to dry clothes or keep yourself warm in the cold: if you have a tarp/blanket (basically anything that you can throw over yourself) you can make a kind of "tent" and put your propane stove or even a small open flame(like a candle) under the tarp with you and as long as you let the fumes vent out every few minutes it should get really warm under there. You could easily dry and warm yourself and your clothes in a couple of hours with this method.
you legend
Its a good idea but it would waste propane they would need for cooking. Its a really good tip but theyll need jt for food
@@thomaslynn6731 His propane tank got way more gas than he needs. He could probably boil like 60 liters of water from it. He maybe needs one per day for his food and a tea. They aren't even boiling their drinking water so he got lots to spare. Even if not it would be wise to use the propane because it is very easy to start a small cooking fire with wood or the stuff you find in the city.
If you truly have nothing, for smaller items (like socks) you can put half of it in your pants, and about a half hour later, check if they are dry. If they are, flip them around. Check again, and then they should be dry.
Thought the same thing
Appreciate your efforts for putting in the subtitles.

It’s amazing how fast things become ruinous and wrecked when left without any maintenance. False ceilings fall down, paint falls from walls, trees grow everywhere. After a nuclear war, everywhere will be like Pripyat. Terrifying thought. Imagine a whole world like that- people surviving in groups trying to stay alive and eat where there is no way of getting any food etc because society has ceased to exist in a post apocalyptic world.
