- Balkan Detours: Tito's Legacy Uncovered (Season 01, Episode 01)
Three years ago, we embarked on a road trip to Albania - which took a sudden twist, leading us on an unexpected journey through the former Yugoslavia. We never arrived at our initial destination. Our car broke down, marking the beginning of a three-year adventure to reach Albania. This was the start of our Balkan detours! Our first stop in 2021 took us to the remnants of Yugoslavia's central educational institution for Communist party members. Amidst the decay, the structure stood as a testament to Yugoslav architecture, captivating us with its unique design. Join us on this first adventure of our new series "Balkan Detours" as we explore fascinating relics of the past! #urbex #abandonedplaces #bwturbex

How do you like this new show?
Love it. Look forward to more in the series. An excellent idea to have themed series - you are today's Television documentary series makers.
Pozdrav iz Bosne 🇧🇦 ex Yugoslavije !!
Rat nas je uništio Nažalost !!
Top notch video, so immersive 20 minutes just flies by.
Been my pleasure being part of the series and can't wait for the next one 🙌🏻
Heyo Tin, thank you for the amazing comment! Next week, we'll finally upload our mutual exploration. Can't wait to share this with you and hear your thoughts on that. Have a great time until then!
So glad to see a new BWT video! I especially like the close-ups of plants, insects etc. The fungus growing out of the old barstools was poignant and evocative.
You guys have far, far more courage than I have. At age 76, there's no way I would even dream of attempting something like this. Thanks for the videos.
Our goal with these videos is to bring adventures to armchair explorers like you! We want to show you places you'd never see otherwise. Thanks for following what we do!
At age 76 I would think that BWT also would probably not be too keen on some exploits that come easy when you are young and full of adventure.
Another amazing Historical adventure! Our eyes have been opened to see the fear that war brings, A school with a massive bunker under it to protect the students! Pretty scary stuff, but thanks to BWT our eyes have been opened to experience what fear meant during the cold wars and all civil wars that followed! Will History repeat itself?? Let's hope not!! The Music was phenomenal for this clip, it was intense and really set the mood for this great explanation! Thanks BWT!!
the things you guys go through during the explores just amazes me. Can't wait to see more of the Balkan Detour
Thank you for mentioning your composer... Whilst watching, I wanted to ask you about the music (in general) featured in your videos. Some of the tunes have an otherworldly, beautiful spooky feeling, which supports and underlines the shown imagery extremely well.
I Agree
I looked at the composer's channel - great material - ethereal and emotional. Will find out if he licenses tracks to use on my productions.
Thanks a lot, guys! We know about the importance and impact of music in such documentaries, so we always try to carefully select our score. And we name the tracks we choose and credit the artists in the video descriptions of every episode.
Have been in touch with Lukas and bought his album Clockwork Voltage v1. I am very particular about the music I choose for my edits, music is very important as it connects with the soul. The image connects with our brain. Two very different but integrated elements.@@bwturbex
+1 while watching itself, I was amazed by the bgm n thought to post my comment n then found the composer in description 😊
The best bando site in the world! I’ve watched you all for years now! I’ve seen you grow and and flourish your talents to new heights while others settled for less worthy content. You increased your capabilities and expanded your talents to all new heights. Bravo bros bravo 🙌
Dude, thanks for the amazing feedback! 💚 We always love to read such kind words from our community. We put a lot of effort into each production, and we're happy when it's appreciated. Thank you for following our travels!
Another beautiful tour, and thanks to your friend for the lovely accompanying music.
Great video, and the music really stood out to me.
Yeah, our composer Lukas did an amazing job! Make sure to check out his pages. Thanks for your comment!
There's something beautiful about semi reclaimed structures. Thanks for sharing.
New video yezzzz!!
🤩
Enjoy the first episode of our new show and let us know how you like it!
@@bwturbex This is such an amazing episode , cant wait to see more of this series.!!!, The building is so beautiful , loved the stairs and the wodden overheads to contrast the bare concrete
Perfection!! I love the architecture and it was fun to watch your predicament in the bunker. Personally, I would not have tried it. Wonderful blend of imagery and music, too.
Imagine if we'd fallen into that murky water! Not a fun way to end an exploration, haha. Thanks for following our journeys and I hope you'll have a great April!
We can advise to 'be careful' and I'm sure you are, but exploration comes with some risk.
If the mothers of explorer sailing ship captains of the 16th, 17th and 18th Centuries said "I'm not allowing you to go down there it is too risky'" - then large parts of the Southern Hemisphere/Pacific including Antarctica would not have been discovered when they were. @@bwturbex
Thankyou Marco & Till. What an amazing compound. Shame it was left to the ravages of time. I had to laugh when you went into the tunnels. Not sure I would have gone that far but you guys always go the extra bit to entertain us subscribers. Love the atmospheric soundtrack also. p.s. you did check your boxer shorts for any of those imposing creatures once you got out right ?!! 🤭👍
I really like this new vid,it is well done and very professional, keep them coming guys, looking forward!!
The first video you made at this site was spectacular, watched it back then.
This one is even more incredible.
You guys were taking some big risks in that tunnel. Pathogens in the air, unknown things living in the water, electric shock if some wiring or equipment in there was live, risk of sudden flooding - tunnels and caves are dangerous.
But it made for riveting content no doubt.
As for the building - while not a fan of brutalism, this architecture was truly unique and impressive. Hard to believe that so much decay has occurred since the time of abandonment.
Water is the number one enemy of building interiors.
The stuff you run into when exploring. The part with the tunnel is so recognizable, the cray stuff an explorer has to do sometimes. Nice video again!
I love how imaginative and abstract Yugoslavian architecture is. The way it's stylized is superb, particularly within the constraints of the materials used. Still feels pretty futuristic, even now. I'm really looking forward to seeing some in person if I ever get a chance to cross the Atlantic and visit a long time pen pal of mine.
Can't wait to show you our next video where we're exploring the remains of the 1984 Winter Olympics which were held in Yugoslavia. The sports venues were built the same!
The projection room set up was odd. 16:47 you can see a wooden slat wall covering the projection portholes, which may mean it was only used as a cinema originally but changed to live show or lecture hall later?
Those projectors are Meopta Prerov -- Meo 5 -- made in Czech Republic. Maybe around 1970s. They are considered one of the worst 35mm film cinema projectors ever made.
They weigh 170kg and used xenon bulbs as light source.
Meopta however made lots of good quality photo lab equipment like enlargers (I have one), etc, and now make high end optical equipment for scientific, military and industry use.
As Alexander Soltinezen said in one of his books, “Even buildings have their stories to tell.” Well done!
Amazing place, I've learned a lot about Tito and his time, everything that happened after.
Awesome adventures and I look forward to the rest. Love your videos, they are just spectacular.
If you liked this one, stay tuned for the rest of Balkan Detours!
The ending sequence with the drone and those windows and walls at an angle, made it look like the opening sequence of Blade Runner
I know what you mean. This place just looks sureal! Nothing like you see in your everyday life. That's why we love urbex so much! You get to see places you don't even know exist!
@@bwturbex You find and record whispers of forgotten beauty engraved by time. I didn't find a lot of places to visit, but contemplating a time bubble is a poem, and thanks to you guys, I get to discover some of the most fantastic out there. Thanks (say hello if you ever come to Paris ;) )
Wonder what that little beetle must have made of the drone taking off. To him it may have been a profound religious experience haha @@bwturbex
This is such a underrated channel. Love the content you guys makes. Truely incredible work you guys do.
Cheers mate! If you would like to see the channel grow feel free to check out our other episodes and share our content. See you next time!

Haha great to hear man! We try to stick to a regular 2 weeks schedule again, but sometimes it's hard to keep it up while travelling to shot the series and other projects we do in between.
I am from Puerto Rico and I learne a lot from that part of the world thanks to you guys l like the work that you guys doing thanks again 👍👍👍👍
Congratulations on the video! Thanks for the subtitles in Portuguese! Always watching you here in Brazil!🙌
Thanks for watching! Where are you based in Brazil?
@@bwturbex I live in Porto Alegre. In southern Brazil.👍🏻
Frohe Ostern!
That is a beautiful building. Imagine if it were turned into a hotel or tourist zone
Thanks for sharing ! Whatiching from Brazil !
Amazing as always !!❤
When I have been there, rain was pouring, even inside the building, turning staircases into waterfalls. Hence it was difficult to move inside the building, and I failed to see the bunker and the library, and could't use the drone. So thank you for exploring a bit more for me 😄 Hardly waiting to see the next Balkan episodes 🔥
Sounds quite fitting to the place too! Glad that you like the exploration, stay tuned for the next one!
It\s sad...Such amazing architecture left in ruins. It would cost far too much to restore it. Some areas could be preserved however, while others torn down. It could be converted to a shopping center of sorts, or a military complex.
Too bad a large part of the structure is in such a bad shape now... Wood is just rotting away, some parts suffered from fire and others from water damage. The former school is located in a small village. Not sure if it would attract many people if renovated. I'm afraid there's no hopeful future for this site! 😞
Love the channel!! Keep up the great content gentlemen and stay safe!
Heya Andrew, thanks so much! We'll have another cool episode coming up in two days and we can't wait to share this one with you!
Aaa always happy for new videos😊😊
Awesome video my friend

Great video guys great location and very informative and interesting
Thanks a bunch! Make sure not to miss the other episodes of "Balkan Detours".
Great video guys! Want to share some insights on how this location was "discovered" within the exploring community. As early as 2013 I started traveling Southeast Europe a lot, but none of my exploring friends wanted to join me. I then met up with Mirna, from Zagreb, and it's her research that led to this place. A very small article on a local blog mentioned the closure of the school. The only article on the school at that time, with one blurry exterior shot of the school. It was a dark and cold winter day in 2014 when we headed out to Kumrovec. The school looked massive, and we had no idea about security or motion sensors. It was sealed off 100%, we didn't find a way inside. Until we found one window that could be tilted - we were in! What we saw was incredible; the bar was already nicely decayed, the lobby was pristine with telephone booths, reception desk and lockers, and all the books were there in the many rooms. We never posted our photos. About a year later the fine folks from Croatia Infiltration stumbled upon it, and the rest ... is history :)
Oh wow, didn't know about that! Thanks for sharing, that's freaking cool. Would love to see your photos from back when you first went there! This place must have been incredible back then.
There was a scene where you all come out of the bunker and stand in fronk of the bars. That's a great shot.
Ein genialer Film mit lustiger Bunkereinlage! Toll gemacht!
Thanks the music was great awesome video I enjoyed watching
Cheers! We think our composer Lukas did a splendid job with the music. Should we ask him to do the score for the next video as well?
Bin gespannt auf weitere Videos
great video folks
Thanks buddy! Planning on exploring that site as well?
Great video, thank you!
You're welcome, Happy Easter!
Thank you for your great videos. Your work and the quality you deliver is great. I have been following you for years and I like every video you make. Thank you very much. Greetings from Berlin
🖤🖤🖤
Having explored this place in September 2022, I enjoyed this video with an extra level of satisfaction. The bunker certainly made this place even more insane to explore. The brutal architecture was also stunning. Once again an incredible video! I'm always blown away by your professionalism.
Hey there, this place truly is incredible! Do you think it's worth returning now? Our trip took place in the summer of 2021, and I have seen photos from the past few years - there's a lot of graffiti now.
Man, what a fantastic explore! That building would have been a real sight to behold when in use. All those angles and the interplay with the mix of concrete and wood panelling and light streaming in.
Magnífica exploración!!! Y gracias por el subtitulado en español!!! Si no, me hubiera perdido toda la historia!! Gracias!
You're very welcome! How do you like the quality of the Spanish subtitles? They were created automatically and we're afraid there might be some flaws.
Excellent video!
awesome video. what a beautiful place
Thx! Unfortunately, we didn't find any pictures from when the place was still active. Would love to know how it looked back then!
3:30: Love the stairs
The design of the whole building is pretty fascinating. It's Socialist architecture, and we loved to find structures like this on our Balkans road trip!
Really special loaction and high quality video 👍.
Thank you, we're already editing the next episode of our Balkans series. Make sure to be back on April 14, when we post the next part!
Yes! A new video!!!!
Thanks for watching! How did you like our first Balkans video? Are you interested in seeing more from this journey?
Thank you for your video, you are so correct . . 👍👍
Amazing
Great music !!!
Great episode !!!
Cheers, buddy! How are you?
@@bwturbex I’m good thank you 🙏🏻
How have you guys been been?
Well I hope 🤞🏻
Was für eine beeindruckende Architektur! Und was für ein heftiger Verfall. Keine Nationen, keine Grenzen sind ewig 😂🤷🖖👍
Reminds me a bit of St. Peters Seminary in Scotland which was also a place where people boarded for long periods of time and was also built in the Brutalist architectural style and is also now sadly abandoned and decaying.....
Very nice and unique building 😎
Very well done!
Hey buddy, thanks for supporting us in creating this series! We hope that's everything you were hoping for!
This place is so amazing. Lovely decay ❤
This is decay at its best, with barely any visible vandalism. It's was such a stunning place to explore. Which part of the building did you enjoy the most?
I liked the music and loved the video
Check out the accounts of our composer Lukas (see video description) if you want to hear more of his music. Thanks for commenting on that!
Sad and amazing to see!!!
No I was amazed by he scenery around....It's so beautiful like an imagiary country
Have you ever been to the Balkans? The countryside is amazing! We want to go back there so bad.
A very nice old school, wet suits wanted for that "great" bunker lol did not think it was that big but normally there is a map at a entrance somewhere. Nice music.
Shoes are the worst to change. Such a pain!
Incredible building such a wast to let it rot! :(
We hope that there will be efforts to preserve the structure and its history! It would be such a shame to let it rot.
I think the "emergency exit" is just a secondary passage for air.
That, or the wood just got a lot worse over time, weakening it as moisture crept into it.
Mega cooler Ort 😍
I love Urban Spelunking.

Muy interesante. Saludos desde España.
Thanks! So cool to have viewers from Spain! Many greetings from Germany.
the first building looks modern considering it was build back then
My great uncle fought the Nazis along side of Tito. He was a General in the Yugoslavian military. My relatives think that's
why he was allowed to keep the family home in Orebic. My uncle Eli, who was a police chief here in the USA flew with V. P. Mondale & Mn State politician Rudy Perpich on Air Force 2 to attend Tito's funeral as he USA delegation. At the time I thought it was because of my uncle's local (Minnesota) political connections. Then I later learned about the Great Uncle's connection with Tito.
Another amazing structure.
We came across lots of brutalism architecture in the Balkans, quite interesting!
Was hast du damals dort gemacht?
Looks like you weren't the first soda crate & barrel boat explorers.
And we hope we won't be the last! One must reach the end of this tunnel - at all costs!
❤
hey right on u guys, i didn't know if u were coming back == way to go on this trip thanks for bring this back and sharing it
i live in swift current, saskatchewan and are a fan u guys and ur adventures, i wish i could afford what u have but i am on a government as·sis·tance help
the Government should turn it into a Motel for ppl who are out for Touring
I believe the insect you picked up in the flooded tunnels was a dead Notonecta glauca, more commonly known as "the common backwimmer". Notice how it was laying on its back in the water when you picked it up, it swims like that with those 2 long legs
Hey buddy, just googled that guy! Wow, nature is fascinating. Didn't know that there are critters moving like that. Thanks for sharing!
@@bwturbexYou're welcome. Thanks for showing us this place!
Amigos.
Hey there, I'm so sorry that we don't have Spanish subtitles anymore but we don't have someone who can translate that. We had help in the past but we can't afford to pay someone for doing that. I'm so sorry! We'll check if we can activate automatic translations. That could help!
history should be preserved to see it and not repeat it again.
Niceee

I thought that place looked familiar. I watched another explorer go through that place probably 2 years ago
Yes, this place is pretty popular in the urbex community. It's nicknamed "School Of Moss" and you can find lots of footage from there online.
0:32 I would love more footage of that cookout or BBQ as we say. This is a building worth protecting but the first thing you raise money for is a roof as we see.
That BBQ was at a local holiday (that we caught by surprise, haha). There might be footage from there coming as part of another episode from this season of Balkan Detours. Stay tuned!
07:40 is this music Been used as the movie "monos" monkeys. ? Sounds same. Nice place. Il watch rather morely moving pictures on a video than stills.. 👍
nah it was composed especially for this video!

maybe a worthwhile investion to keep a pair of long fisher laarzen in the car
Yes, that's a good idea! At least we should have a pair of rubber boots.
Do you know if there was ever any other urbexers, aside from Sam and Jess explore, that may have explored the bunker while it wasn't flooded?

Bad in the soviet autos: they don't go.
Yeah. But we did two more trips to the Balkans with that Lada Niva. These other two times, it was working way better! But we will talk about that in upcoming episodes.
