The clarity, instrument separation and sound stage on the Technics AZ80 is totally second to none. I also own a just launched Sony XM5, AirPods Pro 2 and Galaxy Buds2 Pro. The Technics are above and beyond all of them in sound quality. The build quality of the earbuds and case are really amazing as well.
Well, sound is highly individual preference. Not sure about the others but in the sound department Technics are neck in neck with Sony xm5, though Sonys are tuned more toward bass and midrange frequency while Technics have a more clinical flat response. Quite a lot depends also on the quality of recording. If you have only flac lossless files Technics and Sonys would sound equally great. If some files are mp3 lossy low quality with Technics they would sound bad while with Sonys dsee upscaling function even mp3 will sound palatable. Both earbuds will perform well with hi-rez files but Sony will perform well even with low-rez. Technics are thus suited more for an audiophile and Sonys...well for most listeners, audiophiles included (with extensive eq modifications that is). One should also consider the battery life and ANC. In that department Sony is just a better option: in my testing the lasted about 7-8 hrs with ANC and enhanced as enhanced codec. Also while commuting with me, Sony performed better canceling noise across most frequencies.
@maximilian_puetz Under ideal conditions in a soundproof studio, quiet apartment or in the middle of the wilderness Technics may have a slight edge over Sonys in midrange perhaps. In a crowded subway, on the street, on the plane next to the crying baby - not a chance! Technic's ANC is poor to non-existant and no amount of instrument separation and spacial clarity matters one bit, if you cannot hear it among the rumbling noise of real life conditions. Sony is not an audiophiles earbud, but than again, no pair of earbuds is. The only way to gain pristine clarity of sound is going wired, preferably with Shure SE846 in ear monitors.
Tested both Sonys and Technics. Under ideal conditions they sound neck in neck. In commute, under real life conditions only Sonys are usable. Technics are a hard pass for me.

I love your reviews. I also learned from owning several sennhiensers, sony and bose. Their battery dies as soon as their warranty expires. We need support from you influencers to help influence manufacturers to give us replacable batteries.
I was considering the AZ80’s with the Jabra Elite 10’s… what would you recommend? A reviewer said that the AZ80’s have a better fit (so it stays better in your ears) but the Jabra has a better fit overall. He also said that it hurts after a couple hours of using. Do you have the same experiences with it?
"Better fit" will ALWAYS be a subjective statement. Unfortunately, you will never know what has a better fit until you try in your own ears... personally, I have no issues with the AZ80. I wear them for hours and have no pain, no pain. I actually tend to forget I have them in my ears. Jabrra Elite 10 is generally smaller so if you know you are prone to having problems with earbuds I would recommend you start with Jabra. The sound quality is amazing in both.
Nice review, your passion for these shines through! Ive had Technics separate Hifi in the past and enjoyed those. Technics are a company who have a great track record with audio. How do they compare to the "Status Between ANC"? (Triple driver wireless earbuds). It's audio quality I'm interested in especially, using an android phkne with aptx adaptive and LDAC, as well as an iPhone.
Thank you! SO... Status Between ANC are all about balance and clarity. They are probably some of the sharpest, cleanest sounding earbuds I ever heard. VERY well balanced across all frequencies, amazing detail retrieval. The AZ80 bring a lot of that to the table but at the same time they are more "fun" to listen to earbuds, IMHO because the sound signature is a bit more tuned for entertainment... so it really depends. If you are a hard core audiophile and listen to mainly classical music and jazz I would go with the SB ANC. For everything else... I'd probably pick the AZ80. That's without going into ergonomics, at all because in that department Technics wins hands down. The SB ANC is bulky and weird. Musically they are fantastic but they make you look like an alien robot when you wear them :)
@@thepolishpotato42 that's incredibly helpful, and quick response, thank you for that. I love listening to music, mostly wired IEMs and listening to a range of music, from classical, world music to music that makes you want to move. I have some wired headphones too but wanted some convenience without too much loss of audio quality, for listening mostly at home. I'm just going through some of your past videos as I only came across your channel when searching for reviews of the Technics AZ80. Thanks again!
It makes me so mad that I just cant afford top tier earbuds. I did manage to get the best Sonys, Samsungs, and Skullcandy. Was able to buy Oneplus Buds 2, but got ripped off. Love the reviews on the ones I cant afford though. Cant even buy the Technic AZ60's. Someday, I swear! Silver must be your color. Looks great on you!
What about the volume? I'm using a Liberty 3 Pro right now and I'm worried that this might be quieter. Another test said it was generally quieter when using LDAC codec. Can you confirm this? For those of you who have this, has there been a firmware update that has improved the volume?
I have same silver AZ80. Not an ANC champion buds, but without it sounds phenomenal, just set 990 kbps LDAC and leave the factory default Direct EQ mode.
@@thepolishpotato42 I don't like active noise cancelling technology at all. Simply can't eliminate all, especially higher frequency noises, and definitely sacrifices sound quality. On the EAH-AZ80 i hear the loss of mid range and soundstage become narrower with ANC.
@@thepolishpotato42Tried all tip sizes, no configuration will hold the candle to sony wf1000xm5 and more so for bose qcii... not even close. May be with 3rd party foam tips? Even if available, after spending 300 usd, why should I spend more to correct shortcomings in hardware, that ingeneers at technics should have thought off before releasing a flawed and unfinished product.?
Well… we’re going to have to remain at our different opinions. I am still going to hold on to mine because my personal experience with these is there are no flaws. The ANC is perfect but - of course - you are entitled to yours. I’m sorry we have different experiences with these buds.
Wow, I love that you explain the App in such detail. That really helps when thinking about buying stuff. But, has it any negative aspects? To me it is very suspicious if reviewers have nothing bad to say about a product and I get afraid, that these reviewers are payed by the company to help sell their products 😝😝🤑🤑
I don't understand people who are focused on the broad sound stage. I prefer to hear the instruments in front of me, not inside of my head. I find that it's closer to reality. And the only headphones that offer this are the B&W Pi5 S2 and Pi7 S2. With B&O EX being a close contender. Have you had a chance to compare them to the Technics?
Hey, thanks for the comment. I totally understand and recognize we all have different preferences. I respect yours. Ysou don’t have to like what other people like. No, I do not own any B&W nor B&O earbuds so - unfortunately- I do not have a direct comparison.
Sounds too good to be true. Sounds like a paid advertisement. I know it's not. You're an honest man and I appreciate that about you. And your reviews. Now I have to go test these. And compare them to my Sennheiser MTW3s. Thank you.
Do they have a feature where if playing music and you suddenly start talking it would lower music volume down to let you have a conversation with someone? A feature I think samsung have. Great review BTW. Very informative 👍
Well this is the last of my month-long testing and so far Between 3ANC Sound quality and volume beat app2, Liberty 4nc, Bose Ultra, Elite 10 and many more not as rated higher by TH-camrs… My priority doesn’t include ANC and transparency which I’d leave gladly to Bose and Sony…so we’ll see.
Amazing review! I have used AZ60 in the past which I loved a lot even though they were chunky but it had 1 big flaw for me which was not having enough volume. I had to use them at 100 all the time to get a decent volume I hope the new AZ80 doesn't have the same issue?
Thank you! I hate to break this to you but... it's going to be the same. That is, at least my impression of the two. I have the AZ60 and the volume situation is pretty much identical with the AZ80. I find them sufficient at around 80% but recently I was in a subway in Korea where it was really noisy and I found myself wanting more than 100%... so I know exactly what you mean and if it was bothering you with the AZ60 I would not get the AZ80. Take a good look at the new Jabra Elite10. The sound signature is very comparable to these and they are definitely louder. I will review them, soon! Thanks again for visiting here!
Thank you for the reply. Sad to know about the volume thing but yes I'm on the lookout for the new Jabra but the only concern I have with those is no support for high res codecs like AptX or LDAC. Buds 2 Pro is what I considered getting but it has no multi-point connection. At this moment I am confused and Sony is expensive.@@thepolishpotato42
In that case, I would get the Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro: amzn.to/3Rus2Fa They really do sound amazingly good and have multi-point connection (2 devices).
I have another idea for you. Did you ever try Tidal? Not only do they claim the highest quality but the vast majority of tracks will just sound considerably louder in earbuds.
Tap sensor controls got me sold!! I hate being on a call perhaps overseas or a call that I've been on hold for 30 minutes or more and all of a sudden 1 accidental touch and the call is over 😳 😡 the dumbest thing ever that many companies overlook!
Attached herewith the links Hong Kong TH-camr sound quality comparison of AZ80, XM5 & AirPods Pro 2. Don't forget the sound you hear is just through you device, not the real one. Hope this would help to find the one you like.
Hmm… tough choice. If money was no object - yes. If I was on a budget and saving $100 was important to me I’d get the Sony. They do sound good. I just prefer the Technics.
I bought these a month ago, much better than my MTW3 and MASTER & DYNAMIC MW07 , surprised by the stable connectivity on LDAC codec while passing through traffic lights area. It's best enjoy with the pentaconn coreir brass eartips.
Shame everyone compares these against only few top tier ones like the MTW3s, but im using Souncore Liberty3pros that i know sound better than original MTW or last gen Sonys but i lack any actual reference point to my current set...
I had the AZ70. I was satisfied with the sound, however the codec was only AAC. But, it spent more time in the service then in my ears. It had so many issue with battery leakage on the earbuds. The case did not hold the charge. I had to give up on them. In the same time I had. Soundpeats Sonic, which outperformed the Technics for the 1/4 of the price.
Is there any way to figure out which device is connected to and streaming from? The app seems to be quite dumb in this regard. Unfortunately on Android (Samsungs) you have to pause the audio on the current device first, otherwise it won't let me to play on the other device. Also, would be nice to have an option to see a list of the paired devices and easily manage/connect/disconnect/delete them. Can't understand why this basic feature is missing in the app. Question about the Ambient mode: There are a 'Transparency' and an 'Attention' setting. Is the latter supposed to amplify the voices but still block out the surroundings? Mine doesn't work like that in Attention mode. It does amplify everything, not just the voices. Is it a faulty unit or yours are the same? Thank you
I used AZ60 and now AZ60M2 so won't buy these - but all those Technics are great. I have small ears and would prefer smaller earbuds but I love Technics too much ;)
Between the AZ80 and XM5: which go deeper in the ear canal? I've had the XM4s and I've developed earwax plugs because of them. I would use them a lot and the continuous pushing and twisting did the wax problem. So I'm looking forward to something that wouldn't go deep in the ear canal. I've tried the AirPods 1st gen and they are comfy and don't go deep in the ear but I need something with good music quality.
I feel like this will depend a lot on the shape of your ears. I would say the AZ80 are less invasive to my ears and I hope it’s going to be the same for you!
There is a difference, mainly in sound staging but if I had to pick and I had limited budget I’d go with the 60! The sound quality difference is minimal!
You sure you didn't get paid by them 😅? I mean they probably sound great but the peats seems to work perfectly and didn't get any noise from the car.... I heard the technics didn't filter everything you can hear the car and fluctuations with the wind noise 😅
Well... I'm not going to disagree that they are NOT the best earbuds you can get for phone calls. But in everything else they absolutely excel! SO it really depends on what matters most to you. Official disclaimer: I am not being paid or benefit in any way from a direct relationship with Technics! :) I wish I was so if anyone from Technics is reading this please do reach out! Haha
@@ThevudiyaPudikathu It’s not just the headphones, it’s their entire product line, B&O is more like a fashion/status statement, less about audio quality
They are very comparable in sound quality so for that difference in price I would get the Jabra! The elite 10 is also considerably smaller than AZ80 and therefore IMHO has much better ergonomics!
@@thepolishpotato42 update: bought both, and decided to keep Az80. Gave Elite 10 to my friend. Az80 fits me better and I like its sound quality more. Asked Amazon if they would take opened earbuds and they confirmed that they would.
Z takimi problemami to też bym stracił zaufanie do marki.
The Bass response is the best and smoothest I've heard on TW earbuds. Better than Sony XM5 and slightly better than Sennheiser TW3. It's honestly amazing. I couldn't believe how great it sounded.

Better than Denon Perl Pro? Trying to decide between these 2
No the Sony xm5 are the best
@@rebirthofthecool5619 I they are not. Too much bass.
How do these compare to the B&O Beoplay Ex or the Denon Pearl Pro?
I love your reviews. I also learned from owning several sennhiensers, sony and bose. Their battery dies as soon as their warranty expires. We need support from you influencers to help influence manufacturers to give us replacable batteries.
Thank you so much! I absolutely agree and will talk about it in my future videos!
Can you do a comparison with the Soundcore Liberty 3 pro?
I was considering the AZ80’s with the
Jabra Elite 10’s… what would you recommend?
I own the eah az60 and they are great. Its the older model and I got them on an offer for 82 Euro
Thanks for reviewing. Well done.
Great review details amazing and I will order one tomorrow

Great review. Happy owner now.
For me the NC is “only” 8,5/10
Sound 9,5/10. Comfort 8/10. UI 9/10.

I have same silver AZ80. Not an ANC champion buds, but without it sounds phenomenal, just set 990 kbps LDAC and leave the factory default Direct EQ mode.
The ANC doesn’t work as well for you? I’m very surprised to hear that. Are you definitely using the correct size eartips? Did you try different ones?
@@thepolishpotato42 I don't like active noise cancelling technology at all. Simply can't eliminate all, especially higher frequency noises, and definitely sacrifices sound quality.
On the EAH-AZ80 i hear the loss of mid range and soundstage become narrower with ANC.
@@Breaky717 ANC works perfectly for me!I'm a truck driver and I can't even hear the engine

Thank you.
For sound quality, Technics Az80 or Sony WF-1000XM5 ?
I feel like this is really THE question now. I honestly don’t know yet.
The technics was horrible on the mic test? SoundsPeats killed it in comparisson. Really impressed!
Do they have a feature where if playing music and you suddenly start talking it would lower music volume down to let you have a conversation with someone? A feature I think samsung have. Great review BTW. Very informative 👍
Thank you! No, they do not have that feature.
Gonna try these buds out tomorrow! I’ve had the Sennheiser MTW3’s for the last 1.5 years and have had to get replacements. The sound was always meh.
Soundpeats sounded the best in the car call test
Thanks again for visiting here!
amzn.to/454a2oe my affiliate link for your convenience :)
How do they compare to Denon PerL Pro?
Yes, sound is ok, but they're not very loud. What am I doing wrong? I just bought the 60s and am disappointed with loudness.
transparence is 100% No1
Tap sensor controls got me sold!! I hate being on a call perhaps overseas or a call that I've been on hold for 30 minutes or more and all of a sudden 1 accidental touch and the call is over 😳 😡 the dumbest thing ever that many companies overlook!
What about it's own charging case? Seems like it kills itself and then the buds.
Compared to the beo&0 ? Sound only?
I got my list down too two which are the Sennheiser mom 4 and the az80. Wish I could test them out in the store.
Not an easy choice. Both sound fantasttic! Personally, I'd pick the AZ80 but... yeah, the best decision would be made by testing.

I’ve looked around available promos. The price difference is around $100 between this and Sony WF-1000XM5. Would you still say go for Technics?
Hmm… tough choice. If money was no object - yes. If I was on a budget and saving $100 was important to me I’d get the Sony. They do sound good. I just prefer the Technics.
I bought these a month ago, much better than my MTW3 and MASTER & DYNAMIC MW07 , surprised by the stable connectivity on LDAC codec while passing through traffic lights area. It's best enjoy with the pentaconn coreir brass eartips.
By the way I changed the single tap on the left bud to activate the ambient sound mode, its more efficient.

@@thepolishpotato42 yeah same here. That is why I am so hesitant to invest in a Technics TWS.
@krisztianpapp1150
AZ60 also support with LDAC codec, you may not connect them in the right way?
@@taomw612 I am sorry I meant the AZ70. The first in the line.
Thank you
As any one compared it with the Devialet Gemini II?
Can u use one at the time
Yes, you can.
Hi all. Try some HE1000SE or Susvaras to pair with these buds ❤
How this compared with audio Technica's Ath - twx9?

Amen to that!
Does it worth to pay extra and buy model 80 over than 60m2? Model 60m2 costs180 usd, but 80 costs about 330.
There is a difference, mainly in sound staging but if I had to pick and I had limited budget I’d go with the 60! The sound quality difference is minimal!
and how is wind cancellation? with speeds 30-50km/h
It’s in the video when I’m doing the test in a moving car.

Well... I'm not going to disagree that they are NOT the best earbuds you can get for phone calls. But in everything else they absolutely excel! SO it really depends on what matters most to you.
