The sound therefore may sound weird in places!! - Deincourt School was always pronounced by the locals as Dane-Court - The Alice's View Centre and Alice's View, which it is situated upon, was named after the lady who owned the local chip shop. She died around 30 years ago and used to serve people without her teeth in! - There's an ancient road sign opposite the Gate Inn on Little Morton Road. - There is a time capsule under the monument on the green, much like was in Wessington. - The working men’s club is thought to be haunted due to strange noises and chairs being moved off the tables during the night!
Great Video, There was another pub in wingfield called the Spinning Wheel. Known locally as "the spinner." It was rough as f#%k but i had many a good night in there over the years and im sad to see it gone. It's a block of apartments now. All the old schools are gone now as well.
My great grandparents used to run the working men’s club. Didn’t last long though as it was thought to be haunted due to strange noises and chairs being moved off the tables during the night!
Nice work! I learned a lot about the place I live. The Shinnon pub is still open, despite appearances. It's more lively on the inside! I believe the Gate Inn will reopen once some planning and renovation issues have been sorted out.
I'm late to this but just a couple of points. The school was pronounced "Dane Court" not Dean Court. Also North Wingfield had a famous singer called Harry Torrani who was billed as "The Yodeling Cowboy from Chesterfield". There's a street named after him there called Torrani Way. Unfortunately the Gate Inn has been sold for residential development and will no longer be a pub.
