The giant single fold/cuff on jean pants is a "nod" or reference to working-class americans of the late 19th, early to mid 20th century. People use to acquire jeans that didn't have a perfect hem length and just cuff them up as far as they needed to; tacking them in place sometimes with stitches or just re-cuffing whenever they slipped too far out of place. In the 1950s the single large cuff became a trend with the Greasers and teenagers at the hop in general; while their parents had worried it was a sign of poverty (because you're "settling" for clothes that do not fit your measurements), the post-war teen culture saw it as "edgy".
knowing this history makes the trend so much more interesting to me! though, let's be honest; most of the people wearing this trend don't know or care about this tidbit, do they?
I feel like there are a lot of fashion trends that romanticized working class life or came from well-adjusted, socially privileged people trying to be edgy by suggesting poverty or marginalization, which I find pretty annoying. I've probably done it myself subtly at times without realizing it (I do come from a working class background but prob. not from the specific groups that inspire the trends). This would be an interesting trend topic video exploration.
In rural areas this statement is still done by Yeehaw people. They love that big cuff and a pair of vans with a belt buckle and a Sherpa jacket and a flat bell hat.
@@BC-np8cb As someone from the wheat fields, I think there's nothing wrong with borrowing from other cultures/socioeconomic groups as long as you have hold mutual respect for the people you're sourcing the look from. Personally, I've had to move to a more urban area for work and like you mentioned, there's a lot of romanticizing of working-class /countryside fashion. Literally millionaire (just over the mark, not "super, super rich") techies wearing flannels and mullets. However, they tend to represent the negative way to borrow that I mentioned previously; taking elements from a culture while also putting it down constantly. So all and all I personally am never offended if there's just basic mutual respect (which is separate from agreeing; you don't have to agree with people or hold similar beliefs; just treat them as fellow human beings) involved. Borrow with a friendly smile and a nod and it's all cool.
I love how she’s so inclusive with the inspiration Pinterest photo that she uses. Like including people with a prosthetic leg or those who are ply size, it really helps with representation and the narrative that a specific style isn’t exclusive to one body type ❤
I appreciate the discussion of how an outfit or a look can be cute but still not be for you. That's a thing I'm trying to keep in mind while creating my own style for the first time in my 30s: lots of things will look nice on you, but that doesn't mean it belongs in your wardrobe. If it's not your style or you don't feel confident in it, it's not going to get worn.
I love wearing something that I call Corporate Clown which is sort of like the opposite to the office siren, still corporate but with color and prints. I like some of the office siren silhouettes but I don’t like the fact that everything is so grey and boring. I wear big glasses with this one and it’s not necessarily sexy either. Lots of 70s silhouettes and prints. I think there’s probably an aesthetic out there that fits this already but I’m not super aware of these microtrends.
That first outfit looked so chic on you. Different tones of red/burgundy tend to look really amazing with different tones of brown/beige. Also, hair and makeup can either make or break an outfit, and surprisingly, most people don't take it into account .
I feel like a lacy crop cami or bralette or even the harness under the blazer would make it office siren!!! I think the coverage of the blazer over a peek of a revealing top could work.
Listen: the burgundy dress and some HEAVILY printed opera coat... If you ever find something to thrift, I really do think it would be a super YOU look, and very chic at the same time
it’s funny bc i also have big shoulders compared to my hips but i loveeeee an off the shoulder moment, especially with a form fitting outfit! so funny how we all perceive things differently 😊
I think we're all susceptible to that fashion "immersion therapy" 😁 It's kind of the opposite of when things go out of style and what you used to think was amazingly adorable is now "What was I thinking?"
You do such a good job showing diversity in your example photos - on top of making great videos! As someone with a larger body I really appreciate this.
I think the single cuff works better with a heavier weight denim, because it'll hold the shape better. With thinner/softer denim, it ends up looking sloppy and not aligned with what that denim wants to do.
How I freaking love that you use the clothes you ALREADY have! There is so many TH-camrs/influencers that just buys the outfits and don't show the viewers that they can be creative with what they already have. More economical and environmental friendly🙏
I'm totally shocked in the first minute: burgundy is my favourite colour for clothes. I volunteer at a kind of charity shop (we're getting donations and giving them away for free, so that stuff gets a longer life) and even our regular customers tend to hand me all the burgundy clothes, because it has become my signature colour 🤣
That is such a nice gesture, I love the idea of making clothes easily accessible! Also, burgundy is one of my favorite colors too along with peach and teal. I recently got a peach and burgundy flannel shirt secondhand and it is one of my favorites!
the mini shorts trend definitely feels to me like one of those trends that's only a Trend because skinny people are wearing them. it's giving late 00's pro-ana thigh gap worship vibes to me 😭
I feel the same way about the office siren trend actually which only gives off the desired vibe on people who are model skinny or the unrealistic type of curvy + have a super conventionally attractive chiseled face that works with those glasses. Just don't see regular people pulling that off but that's the trend's fault.
true, but as a plus-size person, I also think it might have to do with thigh-chafing? i could NEVER wear those - my thighs would bleed. that could be a factor? still stupid to gatekeep fashion tho.
I like how your videos are always breaking the 4th wall of fashion youtubers. Some just make lookbooks, back to school outfits and so on. But in your videos it's that too but also about how your sense of fashion developes.
The office siren looked amazing on you!! It didn't achieve the goal BUT it was so clean and had personality. It was giving fashion designer dressed down fit, model esk, Scandinavian. I'm probably missing the mark on explaining it - in short, it looked great!
I also have wider shoulders, I have found that I really like off the shoulder looks but specifically with a v neck! Smth about the V makes the shoulders feel less awkward for me. I often wear shirts with a deep V off the shoulders and love the look, so maybe give that a try?
I agree! My personal problem is just how she styled it. I wear shorts like that out but i pair them with a lace tank top, a summer cardigan of some kind, and comfy sandals
similar to your feelings about tones of red, I don’t like cooler tones of warm colors. Yellow is my favorite color, but I don’t feel drawn to green-leaning yellows no matter pastel, neon, saturated… like I want my warm colors warm 💖
i’m the opposite lol. i’m a cool tone/jewel tone girlie all the way. i think different tones look good on different people. i do not look good in super bright/warm shades
Small request, please? When you style a trend you don't like, I'd be really interested to see how you then tweak an outfit to get it to a place where you *do* like it 😊
6:42 says the most eloquent and insightful shit that is so encouraging and helpful - 7:18 ‘but idk if that makes sense’ 😭 (i do this too, you’re not alone lol) - but it definitely made sense, and it was beautiful and very appreciated 👏👏
I thought going into this video that I will agree with you about most of the things, but I discovered how much I've warmed up to trends I used to hate. Especially the animal print. I have a cheetah print shirt and a cheetah print coat that I bought at the end of winter and I can't wait to wear again next spring. I also used to love polka dots for years. In the last two years or so I've worn them much less. Until I've recently thrifted a fun polka dots button down shirt. Now I'm back in love with polka dots. I used to think I was too big chested for off the shoulder tops and never tried them. This year I suddenly became obsessed with finding the perfect off the shoulder top. I'm still looking. Welcome to the burgundy club! It's one of my favorite shades since forever. When I bought tabbi shoes off of Etsy, I chose the burgundy pair instead of the black pair. I think it's such an elegant shade. And your burgundy dress is amazing. Finally, I have to agree with you on the short shorts (they make me feel uncomfortable) the cuffed jeans (I don't like cuffing them even when they're slightly long on me) and the office siren (I work in an office, so these are the clothes that I have to wear for work. I'm so annoyed that I can't wear shorts or a mini skirt even when it's hot. Office wear is the opposite of fashion to me).
I think in your polka-dotted look, the lines of the harness are competing with the white lines on the dress, and the underskirt is a good idea but ultimately not adding much. I think it would work with a different (but still polkadot) dress!
As a fellow broad-shouldered person who used to hate off the shoulder tops for the same reason, I think I have a tip! I realized the trend didn’t work for me in the 2010s because i was 1) only trying cropped versions and 2) pairing them with bottoms that accentuated my waist, like high waisted shorts and skirts. So my shoulder to waist ration looked WILD lol. BUT with the newer trend, I’ve gone for longer shirts and lower bottoms that skim over my waist instead of accentuating it, and it creates a much more proportional silhouette, in my opinion. And now i think it makes my broad shoulders look so good!!
I believe you are correct about what is you and what isnt It is EXACTLY the reason you pick certain things to wear because your choices match your inner you Its how you become authentically “ you” by your unique choices There are things over the years people have suggested i wear , but I just cant! They arent me I feel awkward in them, like im wearing shoes 4 sizes too big! Keep you YOU!
You should try a sweater, a turtleneck or a shirt with a Peter Pan collar under the red dress to make it a little more casual and comfortable. but hey I love your outfits :)
Oooh early Beepworld video! The scarf was a good addition to the first outfit. It really brought it together! I think the off the shoulder top outfit looks great, and I usually choose a more flared bottom to balance it out as well. But that belt omggg 😍😍
LOVE LOVE LOVE that intro outfit. You look absolutely amazing in it and it's everything I've ever wanted for summer ... HOPEFULLY the thrift gods will bless me til then.
I recently discovered your channel, and it was such a relief to see that you're not only referring to white and skinny fashion girlies when you say "cool, pretty girls." This made me instantly subscribe.
I hate the giant-cuffs thing a lot but like you, I though eh maybe if I try it I'll like it... I suspect the cut of the pant has to be entirely straight at the bottom for it to work! Most jeans either taper in or out just a bit, so the smaller cuff looks more intentional and doesn't cause the dreaded bunching effect. lol I've now thought about pants cuffs for far too long on a Sunday. Great video, I like that you try to push out of your comfort zones!
I 100% agree with you, I think what makes this trend look odd is when there’s that bunching that makes it feel like it’s not intentional. I have a pair of wide leg jeans I did the cuff thing to (sewed it and everything) and I think they look really cool because the cuffs don’t bunch and it looks like the silhouette of the pants just continues.
color trends can really be hit or miss depending on the undertone of your skin… i always end up passing on the current spring/summer pastel (butter yellow atm) bc i just feel like pastels make me look so jaundiced and sallow 💀💀💀
It's funny how I dislike off the shoulder tops on myself because I have narrow shoulders.. I think you look beautiful in that top and wide shoulders accommodate open necklines very well
For the record, the off shoulder look on you reminded me of the Madame X painting somehow, which is kind of a *vibe*. Just in case it helps reframe your feelings about your shoulders!
1. Shoutout to WI/ mid west girlies… the safety shorts lmao!! 2. Imo you look amazing in the off shoulder top, really shows how much our own perceptions shape how we feel in stuff.
I LOVE the micro shorts outif omg, i live in the south tho so micro shorts dont even come across as a trend or as pajamas to me, but i think its because its soooo hot and humid that its almost required to wear shorts short or they ride up and get humid 😔😔😔
I love the first outfit with the addition of the scarf! I want to try some scarves as belts for my trench coat now. I can't get on board with the flipped up hem either. I train horses and sometimes have to do this for functional reasons, because my riding jean inseams are 4 inches longer than normal (so they are long enough when you are sitting on a horse), but that has not helped me be influenced into liking this trend even one bit. Now I just want to avoid doing it even for functional reasons.
I do the giant cuff to get my jeans to a normal length because they’re all just wayyyy too long on me, and I think it looks best with a super wide leg!
what's interesting is i also did not like these outfits the way i usually do like your outfits! i guess that just shows that being authentic or inauthentic to your personal style really translates on screen. as for the first outfit with the red dress, i wanted to suggest choosing different jewelry that didn't feel so fancy, and go with something edgier or more playful to make it feel less chic and more you!
hi! ideas for off the shoulder if you ever want to try the look again: i would recommend a less bulky scrunched up fabric like the sleeves you tried, or at least a fabric that follows the curve of your shoulder. alternatively find one like the shirt you wear between shorts that has a dramatic swoosh to help accentuate the shoulders. also different necklines matter, even with off the shoulder. so pin and play with the neckline shape (personally i love a straight neckline closer to my neck with off the shoulder). also adding in jewelry can really change the look, especially chokers or large earrings. the shoulder space acts as a nice stage for the jewelry and the jewelry lets you change where the focus is in that area. lastly i would say a one shoulder on/one off is also a fun route to go - the asymmetry and 50% commitment might seem more appealing if you dont want that much shoulder bared :) hope you consider trying it again i think its a very flattering look on all body types!
butter yellow is sooo cute on you!!! I have a few butter yellow pieces that I love but dont tend to grab as a strong neurodivergent ~outfit repeater~ but seeing you pair it with more white makes me think that might actually make it work a little better for me!
I loved the off shoulder look on you! As a broad shoulder small hip girly myself, I LOVE off shoulder tops because I feel like it makes my WAIST look smaller compared to the shoulders! (Though I do like my broad superwoman looking shoulders to begin with☺️)
I'm really not good with colors (just slightly trying to branch out of my all beige and black wardrobe right now) BUT I would have really liked the first version of the butter yellow/creme outfit with a bright yellow or even mustard belt or perhaps a bag accessory? I feel like that would have made the monochromatic creme be more balanced out. Not meant as criticism or anything, I'm just trying to develop my style + sense of fashion along with you and your videos. Btw, I loved that little body type speech! Totally relate with how you go about it.
Loved the first outfit! I think the last outfit would have looked really good with your green tote bag instead of the white bag you chose. I don't know if that matches well enough with the pinterest outfits but it seems more you
I think actually the off shoulders IS flattering to your body type! You look like a kibbe flamboyant natural which is known as the super model type (because a lot of models will fall into this catogory but it's for sure not the only way to look as a flamboyant natural!). According to kibbe you're supposed to highlight your traits, not hide them, and off the shoulders would be a perfect way to accommodate for the width in the shoulders. I think that the super wide neckline looks absolutely beautiful on you, but I also get the feeling of not wanting to wear something you're not comfortable in.
Your personal style is sooo parallel to mine that these videos help me so much on creating new outfits with my existing garments !!! I also share similar views on these trends as well :)) Cute video as always
For office siren, what about ditching the long sleeve top, buttoning the blazer, and putting the harness over it? I also feel like heels/sandals instead of the boots would also lighten this up and give the skirt its moment.
Okay that deep red dress really suited you tho! That color pops with your hair and skin tone! But I feel you… when you don’t like something you don’t like it!
I have a long neck so off the shoulder and low cut stuff makes it look even longer to the point it doesn't look good anymore.. but I love off the sholders I'm sure I loved it since the 2010s haha I like to pair them with a chunkier short neckless to brake up the skin
For the micro-shorts what you needed was to add a big, chunky low-slung belt around your hips, and tall black boots. Also a bit more midriff showing, maybe by hiking up the shirt a bit on one side. IDK if that's safety-pinned or what. Then it must have a bold shoulder bag and a delicate necklace. And the hair might work down, but mostly I'm seeing a sleek crown and a mid ponytail or braids. Not that you need to wear any particular style or anything I say. That's just what I noticed from the inspo pictures you showed.
- I like outfit #1 a lot, but I think it would click more with some type of necklace or neck/chest accessory with the open neckline. - The giant jeans cuffs never look good to me no matter how styled, even in the authentic archival 50s hip kid photos. Makes me wonder why when I too like a rolled hem at times. - I thought the red and black off-shoulder outfit looked really good and more flamenco-like than the other, but of course if it does not feel good on to you, then that's what matters.
If you have wide shoulders you might be a flamboyant natural (kibbe body types) and especially for that body types off the shoulder tops are so flattering! I think your shoulders look so elegant and the top looked beautiful on you😊
I fell in love with polka dots when I started listening to Straberry Switchblade. Give it a google :D The duo looks iconic in polka dots mixed with some elements of goth look. Unfortunately I'm not bold enough to dress alternative but I'd like to somehow combine polka dots with edginess in the future!
The first outfit went so well with your chequered cushion 😅 I love burgundy but as it was my school uniform colour (tights, skirt and blazer) I tend to not buy it.
Okay, hear me out... what if the tall cuff area was someplace you could display brooches? Or clip on barrettes or other hair accessories? What if you could tie a ribbon around the cuff and style a bow on it? I feel we have untapped potential here!
So, I love your videos. Thanks for helping me understand why I don't like off shoulder tops. I realize it's that my shoulders are "broad", and it's because, on ME, according to ME, all I can see and what I think anyone sees is my shoulders. The rest of me disappears 😂
My summer uniform has been micro shorts + oversize button up. However, if my ass is gonna hang out of my shorts, they’ve got to have an ultra high waist. Usually paired with a crop top or even a sporty bra top
Ive been trying SO HARD to wear the big cuff on jeans and end up with my old standby- sooooo yes, long live the double roll!! That said, all my jeans are straight or mom jeans so maybe if i eventually thrift some cutie wide leg/flares jeans i might try/like it?
re: micro shorts and body diversity… to me it seems like one of those trends where the clothes are only disguising the ACTUAL thing the model wants to show off, which is super thinness/thigh gap/pro ana or whatever u want to call it. same way those pics of only thigh highs w skater skirts on 2012 tumblr were really only abt the aspriarion and glorification of thinness all along. might be a reach but idk

Polka dots always make me think of strawberry switchblade!! They also do the casual veils hahhaa I love it!
HERE not working on Sunday for once and watching this with breakfast 🤗
I love how you show such diverse Inspo photos in your videos - it’s so refreshing. Keep it up and I love your videos!
i LOVED the big cropped cuff on your dungarees!!! looks a bit goofy yes but in a ~fun~ way not in a weird way
Oooh early Beepworld video!
The scarf was a good addition to the first outfit. It really brought it together!
I think the off the shoulder top outfit looks great, and I usually choose a more flared bottom to balance it out as well. But that belt omggg 😍😍
The cardigan over a button up looks so good, I’ve never seen that before and it’s honestly revolutionary to me
This is awesome. I love the way you talk through your thought process and the lessons/takeaways beyond the trend.
5:03 Adding the hat and purse to the cuffed overalls took you from Raggedy Andy to Anne of Green Gables, and it's extremely cute.
the off the shoulder fit was so jessica day coded
LOVE outfit 4 with the polkadot dress and harness combo
LOVE LOVE LOVE that intro outfit. You look absolutely amazing in it and it's everything I've ever wanted for summer ... HOPEFULLY the thrift gods will bless me til then.
omg thank you!! I actually got that shirt from some fast fashion brand in college, but that should mean it's findable in thrift stores now lol
I recently discovered your channel, and it was such a relief to see that you're not only referring to white and skinny fashion girlies when you say "cool, pretty girls." This made me instantly subscribe.
oh the office siren look was my favorite without the blazer. it was very miu miuuu and then throw a colorful small bag!
The butter yellow outfit makes you look like Chessy from the parent trap so immediately cool
The way the pillow on your couch is the same color palette as the first outfit 🤣
1. Shoutout to WI/ mid west girlies… the safety shorts lmao!! 2. Imo you look amazing in the off shoulder top, really shows how much our own perceptions shape how we feel in stuff.
I LOVE the micro shorts outif omg, i live in the south tho so micro shorts dont even come across as a trend or as pajamas to me, but i think its because its soooo hot and humid that its almost required to wear shorts short or they ride up and get humid 😔😔😔
im so glad ive found your channel and i LOVE that you include multiple body types in your reference pictures
Your polka dot dress harness thing gave me serious pause but your ability to take creative risks is why i watch you anyway. and i love it
hi! ideas for off the shoulder if you ever want to try the look again: i would recommend a less bulky scrunched up fabric like the sleeves you tried, or at least a fabric that follows the curve of your shoulder. alternatively find one like the shirt you wear between shorts that has a dramatic swoosh to help accentuate the shoulders. also different necklines matter, even with off the shoulder. so pin and play with the neckline shape (personally i love a straight neckline closer to my neck with off the shoulder). also adding in jewelry can really change the look, especially chokers or large earrings. the shoulder space acts as a nice stage for the jewelry and the jewelry lets you change where the focus is in that area. lastly i would say a one shoulder on/one off is also a fun route to go - the asymmetry and 50% commitment might seem more appealing if you dont want that much shoulder bared :) hope you consider trying it again i think its a very flattering look on all body types!
butter yellow is sooo cute on you!!!
(Though I do like my broad superwoman looking shoulders to begin with☺️)
i actually think the outfit you put together with the little black microshorts looks super cute on you
That last outfit had such mom energy
I actually think your shoulders look wider with the puffs on top but you do what makes you feel more comfy! ❤
Love that you were able to try these with things you already had instead of buying a whole new wardrobe 🙌🏿
Watching this before heading to the flea market!! For inspo.
For office siren I would've gone with the blazer and no shirt under - doesn't seem like your style but would be fun to play with!
Loved the first outfit!
I think the last outfit would have looked really good with your green tote bag instead of the white bag you chose. I don't know if that matches well enough with the pinterest outfits but it seems more you
I tried to wear the oversized blazer with mini pants but it just looks like I forgot to put on pants 😂
I feel like maybe the yellow shirt would look cute with the overalls. Maybe overall shorts with one strap undone. Think Miss Honey from Matilda vibes
Have you thought of styling the butter yellow t shirt with that red jumper from the neutral leopard print outfit?
ngl, I loved all the variations of mean librarian/office siren!
For office siren, what about ditching the long sleeve top, buttoning the blazer, and putting the harness over it? I also feel like heels/sandals instead of the boots would also lighten this up and give the skirt its moment.
I love the butter yellow color. I would have paired it with a long skirt instead of jeans or a long flowy cardigan
Ok the top you were wearing in the intro is SO CUTE 🤩
Okay that deep red dress really suited you tho! That color pops with your hair and skin tone! But I feel you… when you don’t like something you don’t like it!
IDEA: For the office siren look, try the same skirt and boots but with the sexy red shirt you're wearing during your commentary!
I loved the third one so much in particular!!! aaaaah! that's gorgeous!
I think your shoulders look so elegant and the top looked beautiful on you😊
First outfit would be so good with the scarf tied around the waist or a waist belt in black
I literally need to start taking notes when I watch because I have so much commentary and feedback. 😂 Your content really does just pull a viewer in.
The rest of me disappears 😂
i love your layering and wish i could participate in it. but alas, i live in florida and its boiling out there
I love your layering
My summer uniform has been micro shorts + oversize button up. However, if my ass is gonna hang out of my shorts, they’ve got to have an ultra high waist. Usually paired with a crop top or even a sporty bra top
Ive been trying SO HARD to wear the big cuff on jeans and end up with my old standby- sooooo yes, long live the double roll!!
That said, all my jeans are straight or mom jeans so maybe if i eventually thrift some cutie wide leg/flares jeans i might try/like it?
love this video concept! fun to try new trends but also decide for yourself what you love for your style! :)
I can get behind casual veils
re: micro shorts and body diversity… to me it seems like one of those trends where the clothes are only disguising the ACTUAL thing the model wants to show off, which is super thinness/thigh gap/pro ana or whatever u want to call it. same way those pics of only thigh highs w skater skirts on 2012 tumblr were really only abt the aspriarion and glorification of thinness all along. might be a reach but idk
