Sadly the great Chris Bailey, who penned this song for the pioneering Aussie band The Saints, passed away yesterday. A huge loss for music lovers here Down Under. Im sure he was very proud knowing the Boss covered this song, which truly is a beauty.
Such a legendary song & songwriter - #vale #ChrisBailey; top version of Chris's song Bruce! One of #Australia's most underrated punk rock bands - bands full stop!
I was in my first job as a secondary school teacher in central Australia when a fellow teacher leant me "A Little Madness to be Free" by The Saints. 35 years later I am still counting my blessings! Ghost Ships, and all the other splendour...
no one can hit that high C chord on vocals, Chris Bailey had a great technique, that album was really Chris Bailey saying something more than he could confined in the Saints image, pure urban poetry ,credit to Chris Bailey
Great cover and tribute to the Australian band The Saints who made this song back in 1986. Thank you Bruce Springsteen. Hope The Saints will get some royalties!
I used to love this on the radio in the 80s performed by the Australian band The Saints, i used to love listening to Bruce Springsteen in the 80s and now I have the best of both words
Great Aussie song and a great E-Street Band cover! Really awesome time to be a Boss fan here down under! Can't wait to see the man himself and his mighty E-Street Band (by far the best and the tightest band in the world!) when they roll into Sydney next month!
This is a pretty great cover but very faithful to the original which was a hit for the great Australian band The Saints in the 80s. more people should know about them.
Arguably the first punk band. A lot hinges on what you call "punk", though. Ramones, for example, were called "punk" but were pretty boring. Sex Pistols were anti-establishment but a bit artificial. Saints played the kind of music that was to become known as "punk" but weren't called punk until later, after the Sex Pistols had made it big.
Saw Bruce play this live for the first time on his 2013 Aussie tour. That show was the best I've ever been to...but.. nobody can do that song like the great Chris Bailey. His phrasing ( Bruce ) is not quite 'there'...good cover, but Chris is a legend!
Love the orchestral touches , Patti's long hair and louder guitar playing. Also more women singing in background-adds more rounded sound. Thank you. Mary T.
The saints were so great. What a fantastic song. And, oh! Now we should all remember how fucking cool Springsteen is. This guy don't care about shit; if he likes it, he's gonna cover it. i'd be honored if Bruce Springsteen covered one of my tunes.
No kidding. I'd be thrilled just to meet him. Maybe spend a weekend bar-hopping in Manhattan. REM played six shows with him in early October, 2004, on the short "Vote For Change" tour, the purpose of which was to help turn out the progressive vote in an effort to defeat George Bush. They were in awe, and after returning to Athens, GA, where they, and I, live, raved about how modest, gracious and just plain nice he was. Bruce was obviously a much bigger deal than even REM. REM!! But they said he was just a regular guy, not a hint of a prima donna. (Traci Chapman and John Fogarty were also on the bill.) Apparently if you didn't know that Bruce Springsteen has been one of the biggest rock stars in the world for over 40 years, you wouldn't know it from hanging out with him. I mean REM? Hardly a second rate band (although, of course now disbanded). (Videos of many of the performances on this tour are available on TH-cam.)
Saw The Saints in 2011 at Woodford QLD and they were excellent. Not the original line-up but just a real highlight and Chris sang as well as ever. Of course they did this song full justice. No one sounded like Chris.
MY HERO THE BOSS. THERE IS NO OTHER. THANK YOU FOR YOUR BRILLIANT MIND AND FOR THE LYRICS AND MUSIC YOU GIVE TO THE WORLD , AND FOR BEING SUCH A REALLY NICE GUY. MEETING YOU WAS SUCH A PRIVILEGE AND HONOUR AND AND YOUR SWEET LIPS ON BOTH MY CHEEKS 💋 WAS MY GLORY DAY AND I STILL KEEP DANCING IN THE DARK. THANK YOU. LOVE TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. FROM PRINCESS ROSANNA 🌟🎸📀
I'm Drinking the wine on the table...... Here's to you Chris🧡 Thank you! RIP! To the Godfather of Grunge and all that you inspired! 🤘 When you move the Boss, You moved the world!
I remember Chris at about this time used to call the Boss "Bruce Stringbean". No harm done. The brass/ string arrangement is pretty faithful and really well executed.
Fantastic!!There is plenty more where that came from Bruce.Saw you playing pool in The Four in Hand Hotel in Paddington Australia in 85.As a pool player you make a great singer.🙂
Sadly the great Chris Bailey, who penned this song for the pioneering Aussie band The Saints, passed away yesterday. A huge loss for music lovers here Down Under. Im sure he was very proud knowing the Boss covered this song, which truly is a beauty.
Well reminded Phill, rest easy Chris
Such a legendary song & songwriter - #vale #ChrisBailey; top version of Chris's song Bruce! One of #Australia's most underrated punk rock bands - bands full stop!
RIP Chris, THANK YOU MY FRIEND!
Vale Chris Bailey song writer and top band
the "Saints"
PS
Bosses Version a belter as well
how would "the boss" have heard of a semi famous australian band?
A fitting tribute and acknowledgement by Bruce singing a song from one of the worlds influential bands from back in the day, The Saints.
I was in my first job as a secondary school teacher in central Australia when a fellow teacher leant me "A Little Madness to be Free" by The Saints. 35 years later I am still counting my blessings! Ghost Ships, and all the other splendour...
Sadly Chris Bailey just passed away at the age of 65
@@PetraKann indeed far to young
O fuck. Bruce tributes Chris. This is joy.
A great compliment to a great band who happened to be light years ahead of their time - the Saints.
Amen.
Amen to that.
Inala Richlands "I Love so much" as i do the original song,
Remember light years is a measure of distance (the distance light can travel in a year). You're looking for a measure of time, not distance..
When the boss covers you....welcome to the big leagues
So glad that Chris Bailey got to see and hear his song covered by Springsteeen.
Thanks Bruce for honouring the legend that is Chris Bailey. R .I .P Chris
Thank you, Bruce for highlighting an Aussie talent
TOTALLY AGREE 👌
Proud to be Australian... love the Boss and his rendition.
Love to everyone listening
RIP Chris Bailey....
Well done the Boss....

Great cover and tribute to the Australian band The Saints who made this song back in 1986. Thank you Bruce Springsteen. Hope The Saints will get some royalties!
Doesn't get any better than the Boss covering your stuff 👍👌
only bruce could remake this and do it justice
RIP Chris Baily. Aussie legend performed and writer. This was one of his classics.
chris bailey was in a band? his mum used to baby sit me, he has an older brother phil, who plays for the nrl, and a deaf sister named beth.
This is one of the best Springsteen songs and it's all.because of Chris Bailey and The Saints
It's great that Bruce did this cover. He chose a great but little known local song
R.I.P Chris Bailey. Truely a saint now.😔
I used to love this on the radio in the 80s performed by the Australian band The Saints, i used to love listening to Bruce Springsteen in the 80s and now I have the best of both words
Despite a cast of thousands,& all the right intentions, the original version of nearly 3 decades ago still prevails.
True. I love the original, and my band plays it too. Bruce is paying homage.
I should add that Springsteen’s version is just fine too. I wasn’t being critical. Just so used to the original.
I love both. Great song by Chris Bailey, Springsteen's voice is insanely good.
Chris has such a distinct rich voice. Hard to compete.
Millions of people would have no idea who The Saints or Chris Bailey is and it’s so frustrating hearing Springsteen sing this, his band is ok but ffs.
Wow. I had no idea the Boss covered this. Good version, too. RIP CB.
Love Bruce's version of The Saints classic. Thanks Michael Gudinski
Loved The Saints but it's AWESOME that this great song got new life
YES AWESOME 👌
Rewatching after the passing of Chris Bailey. Thanks Bruce
This Aussie classic suits Springsteen's voice and image.
Indeed my thoughts exactly
wow great job boss, one of best aussie songs of the 80,s
RIP Chris Bailey

Yes yes.
Love the Saints
yeah i agree

The Original creators of this song, are from my neighbourhood. Proud
had to watch and listen to this song, heard about Chris Bailey. RIP and God bless.
I listen to this song over & over one of my favourites , God has truly blessed this man with voice like no other ❤🇦🇺

A great song from an Aussie band
@@audaciousagency2024 🥰
RIP Chris Bailey (d. 09/04/2022) of Australian band 'The Saints;, the original writers and performers of this song.
I'd love to see Bruce cover another Aussie band called Weddings Parties Anything. Start with the song 'Father's Day'.
I wish Weddings Parties Anything was big with the anime girls.
GO THE BOSS'S DAUGHTER JESSICA WITH THE HORSES IN THE UPCOMING OLYMPICS IN TOYKO 🐎
Mick Thomas is a beast vocally
Good call. And 'Say The Word' too.

Really digging this right now. Do people still say digging? If they do that would be so fierce.
Yes, but nobody says fierce anymore.
Lhomity lol
You can say fierce. This is a fierce AUSSIE song.
❤️Beautiful song! Beautiful voice!
Fantastic performance!❤️
A great cover Bruce, respectfully and tastefully done. You voice fits it beautifully.
The original Saints version cannot be bettered. R.I.P. Chris Bailey
Love the song and love the Boss! And congratulations on your son's graduation!
I go travelling for 3 months and Bruce releases another album??? THIS is something to come home to!
a cover of a song from one of best bands that originated from Brisbane Australia. The Saints.
Play it again, in memory of the original Punk frontman.

Stevie is in Norway, but don't worry, he'll be back soon - Brilliant Bruce, Brilliant!!!
Time after time, coming out with such great songs and sounds. Love it!
This is a cover of a song by The Saints. But it's a well chosen song and he does a good job of it!
Saw The Saints in 2011 at Woodford QLD and they were excellent. Not the original line-up but just a real highlight and Chris sang as well as ever. Of course they did this song full justice. No one sounded like Chris.

the thing i like most about Bruce is that you left the show a better person than you came in
