I have owned one since new and it has been an awesome car. My car is just about to clock up 153,000km and hasn’t missed a beat. It averages 8.7-8.9L/100km in city peak hour traffic too. Change that to a 2.0-litre four, and suddenly it doesn't feel right. I remember One of my clients had this Falcon 2 L. On the side of it had advertising about the 2 L engine saying how fuel efficient and environmentally friendly it is. But exactly right it was probably trying to entice buyers no a more fuel-efficient falcon
My parents had a g6 ecoboost if you’re looking for one they did have turbo and coolant tank issues. Both of which happened to their car. Other wise pretty good combination
I have a 2 litre g6e and its a comfy car to drive to work and back. Tried to get a remap done and only place in Perth that would give it a shot kept getting error codes so it's standard. Over east they are getting massive power and torque increase with remap and running on 98 octane. Only thing I've added is a high flow air filter and a gfb diverted valve. If some one in perth could tune it I'd be keen.
Yeah was done to try and have the Falcon appeal to more buyers at the time. But as we know Falcon sales where well and truly on the decline by then as not a lot of buyers wanted these cars anymore which was sad. Compare it to 1986 when every second family car on the road was an XF Falcon
Our business has 2 falcon 6 seat limos, one N/A Barra, one slightly newer 2.0T. The 2.0T is pretty good, smooth, better on fuel and the 6sp Getrag auto is great, hold gears and is smooth and fast for a slush box…. However, the N/A Barra is an animal (for a limo) the gearbox is dim witted but that motor….. it hauls and sounds amazing. I can only imagine a turbo Barra in a normal body must be terrific. We don’t get Falcons in the UK, we only have the limos because Coleman Milne converted them. When the Barra limo is done for client duties I’m deffo having THAT motor. I prefer it to the lower power V8’s we have in Europe. It’s an experience, they are muscular.
,my mates dad has the same one in the 2ltr. And Me and my mate drove it from Bunbury to Perth for 2 days and back to Bunbury. And it was ok. Felt like a falcon untill you got to Perth City and felt gutless in town. But on highway it was ok. But cheap af to do them almost 609ks we did in it. Lol
Fun to watch this video as there's few reviews of the Ecoboost Falcon. I just bought a '14 G6E Ecoboost (with only 41k kms) last week to replace my VF Holden Commodore SS-V (that had a crazy low 22k kms) Why go from a 6.2 to a 2.0 and half the cylinders? As fun as the Holden is, fill ups at the pump are a killer and the reality is that there's few opportunities in the real world to drive it fast. Insurance hurts too. The FGE is similar in size and the 2.0 is no slouch. It's not going to blaze the world on fire but is more than sufficient from a red light. The steering is fantastic and it has a more tossable feel in the corners. Overall, it's almost as fun in day to day life and it's special having a rare package that even a lot of Falcon enthusiasts didn't know existed.
Depending on state it’s also a fair bit cheaper to register than a barra or v8. I wouldn’t mind one, be hard to beat for a comfy daily that won’t get you into trouble. If I remember right, they were mainly to be fleet cars, and were aimed at a specific govt contract that had engine size and fuel economy restraints. Ford made the EB falcon and then the govt dept changed the criteria (some might say deliberately) which excluded the falcon.
I'd love to see you do a review of a Ford FG MK2 ECOLPI XR6 (Gas Injection). I actually own one and they have a very good take off with lots of torque. I nail most cars off the lights in mine 😁🏁.
I like this car. It's good looking and cruiser cars are just right for me. Obviously since I drive a 2010 Toyota Corolla and really enjoy it. The 140 horsepower 1.8L 4 cylinder is great. I've never noticed a lack of power in any type of driving. When I was a kid my family had the original 1960 Ford Falcon.
My ford kuga had this engine, with some simple mods; Focus rs airbox Kn filter Iridium plugs Mishimoto intercooler Turbo back exhaust (mettams muffler) Custom tune (ramp auto) Sonnax zip kit Turbosmart kompact Absolutely ripped, draggy app said 5.7 0-100. Fuel economy when on the freeway was amazing, sounded decent for a 4 banger and was really great to daily (had H&R lowering springs too) Sold it, bought lpg ba wagon lol - hope to drop a boss 290 In it and get a spoolin boost turbo kit for it 😁....one day
That is a very cool and unique car! The word at the time was that it was an experiment to test the waters for the ecoboost engine on a RWD platform with the steering wheel on the correct side of the car to prepare for the mustang. Great video as always!!!
I bought a 2012 g6 ecoboost in 2014. Absolute steal at the time. Mint condition 23,000 on the clock and it was only $19k from a dealership. It was a good car. Compared to my 08 fairmont ghia, it wasnt lacking at all for the day to day driving. Sold the g6 and kept the ghia. Not because there was anything wrong with the ecoboost, i just prefer a lot of things more about a bf2 ghia over a fg2 g6.
I've got the super base one of these. XT ecoboost, ex-taxi, 235000km. It gets 12.5l/100km on my 4km each way inter-suburb commute and a bit under 8l/100km on highway-ish road trips. I'm expecting that to improve a little once summer ends as I drop from 37 degree days to something that doesn't push the AC and intake temps so hard. Rego is also cheaper. For the record, OBD reported boost is 18psi, but I didn't see if that was a spike or a normal level. Eventually I'll be doing basic mods to it, like whatever intake and exhaust parts I can scrounge from the Barra turbo models, and maybe make myself a decent dump pipe. I'll hopefully end up doing a mid 14 second quarter mile. The factory turbo on these is super tiny. They make around 150rwkw stock (allegedly) I really don't think there's enough turbo to get to 200 without swapping it to something less responsive
I've had one for ten years now. Reliability from the engine has been solid. No issues at all but the inlet valves should be cleaned of carbon deposits. Economy?! No. Power is power. If you lean on it it'll suck fuel. Handling? Yeah, a little more balanced. Hindsight I should have stuck with the Barra for two reasons: The ZF is tuned to differently and isn't as seamless as it is with the Barra. And secondly the smoothness of the Barra as well as its deeper burble.
The divide between this and a Barra is huge in terms of displacement... Hmmmm... An interesting if not ball tearing choice and I'm with you - what tuning potential does it have?
I averaged 8.8ltrs per 100km this morning in my VF SS LS3 roaring through the Adelaide hills... Obviously its more like 11.5 to 13 when city driving and launching hard for 100kms but the hill climbing is so effortless that going back down the hills end up bringing it right down to an average that beats 6's and some 4's and yet it's a 6.2ltr pushrod V8
Dude that's the most optimistic fuel economy claim in one of those I've ever heard. Driven a heap of LSs including the VF, from the 5.7 to the 6.2 I've never heard of nor seen that, nor have any mates that own them. 18 to 20Lp100 is the norm, and 11.5 around town- your trip computer is definitely on the fritz dude. Or you're running so lean your almost running on air. Sorry but just no way
@@Flying_GC I have a supercharged LS3 VE HSV and I get like 12-13L...but you're right it must be wrong cause my range in a full tank is 370km to 405km max, and I drive 50% highway to work, so how can I be 12-13L but I do drive rough so there is that too
@@Flying_GC where should I semd you the picture of it? Actually I just made it my profile picture just for you. I don't lie and don't need to be optimistic. It actually happened
Its not on the fritz at all! Ive had 9 V8s and it was normal for ls1s to average 12.5 for many drivers.. This was hill driving... i don't really care if you don't believe it but don't try and be an armchair diagnostic. My car is perfectly fine and those numbers are what I got
Awesome vid👍ahead of its time, I reckon would sell well in today’s market, I would love have 2.0lt in Falcon ute n G6E interior. Yeah show pony but jokes aside nice cruise ute.
Just a few bits and pieces like an intercooler, intake ect and that 2.0L will fkn leave a non turbo falcon for dead IMO.. my parents had 1993 Fairmont 4.0L and I couldn't even get a wheel going.. maybe it had carbon buildup or something from being nannered for many years but it was so gutless. Jump in my 1.3L escort and pop a burnout anywhere just like my 1.6, 2.0 and 2.3L Corrina's, they were burnout machines lol
Most of the Ecoboost Falcons were sold into the Ford executive fleet as they did not sell.and were sold off when Ford Australia shut up shop in Australia
falcon Body with 2.0. Do a Coyote Sway in that Falcon. 6 speed ZF Auto good gear box, may or may-not need to change Rear Diff. After Coyote sway put in cold air induction with catt back exhaust.
Surprisingly nice car and pretty good performance for what it is Jon...but being a diehard Falcon nut as I am..Nup...just doesn't seem quite right ..Not shocked they didn't sell lots of them ...The ad for them that ended up being banned was great though... Ralphy , Ralphy , Oh Ralphy .....Cheers
Yes Mate the old 2L Barra wannabe lol no just kidding, she's a perfect comfy cruiser Johnny & great on the fuel economy,my FG XR6 n/a is sitting at 11.6 ltrs per 100kms but I don't travel far so I don't know how much that would drop down if I did go on a long trip,I really enjoyed this review thanks bro.
It surprised me that Ford went for the 2.0L. Even if the 2.4L was detuned slightly, the bigger heavier Falcon would have been a real head turner. Love, love, love the Barra 6, but a hotter 4cyl turbo would have been magic.
These things were great, much better than the in-line 6. But people thought it was going to be Fords, Holden Starfire four cylinder again… They were wrong.
I always thought it was an absolute travesty we didn't get those cars in the USA instead of the crap fwd based Taurus based on the Volvo platform. If I could get even that "wimpy" 2L I would. I would think that some tuning, E85, shorter axle ratio and 0-60mph in the low 5s would be possible.
Fun fact. Ford allegedly detuned the gearbox shift times on these within months of release (remapped on first service) because...... Who wants to pay so much more for a na xr6 that gets (just) beaten from the lights by an XT ecoboost?
I would've bought one I have Ford Territory with the barra motor I love it the down fall am not happy with it is the 6 speed gearbox which Ford new about the problem but never did anything about.
Personal when these came out (just generalising) that category I put them in where 8 loud/expensive, 6 sweet spot/turbo fun, 4 good quite/cheap but gutless for anything practical.

I don't mind the engine but long term reliability would be my main concern. Sure you can find them with high k's but most of them where rep mobiles doing high km's everyday vs an average use car and driving long km's everyday is often better for an engine than the average short trips. Do we know if the 2l ecoboost has any of the head gasket issues the 2.3l ecoboost had/has?
Ford lost a wonderful opportunity in putting the 2:7 ltr diesel engine from the Ford Territory as the Territory was a falcon under the body shell. Would of been a great seller to the grey nomads towing Caravans etc.
It was a trial aimed at the market you discuss. Same motor has been in a few ford cars including the mustang. They were known to loose power over time but were good for what they were intended for. There is some aftermarket support in usa and europe for these. A small amount of the early ones in aussie had leaky head gaskets, but was fixed by new gasket deck the block and head and better quality head bolts. I think it’s hilarious to have one of these. I had one for a few months as a company/fleet vehicle. For the highway and country road driving i was doing it was fine.

Now we’re talking
You really notice the lighter lump over the front wheels . They feel much more nimble.
I remember One of my clients had this Falcon 2 L. On the side of it had advertising about the 2 L engine saying how fuel efficient and environmentally friendly it is. But exactly right it was probably trying to entice buyers no a more fuel-efficient falcon
Talk about timing, I've been looking to pick one up possibly. . .and there is not much info out there about it. So thank you, coincidence much.
crazy mate must be a sign lol
all the reviews that are on YT love them.
My my what a very well maintained example! Interior is absolutely mint 👌🏾awesome review as ever mate 👍🏾
extremely clean! credit to the owner
Good in Queensland where 4 cylinder cars are cheaper to register than 6 cylinder cars.
Lol
yup its the lack of torque eh.. but when cruising it feels totally normal
Fun to watch this video as there's few reviews of the Ecoboost Falcon.
I just bought a '14 G6E Ecoboost (with only 41k kms) last week to replace my VF Holden Commodore SS-V (that had a crazy low 22k kms)
Why go from a 6.2 to a 2.0 and half the cylinders?
In New Zealand we only got the Falcon XT with the Eco-boost. Ford probably figured that if you could afford a G6E you could afford to run one
Great video. Didn't even know they made a 2litre
I'd love to see you do a review of a Ford FG MK2 ECOLPI XR6 (Gas Injection). I actually own one and they have a very good take off with lots of torque. I nail most cars off the lights in mine 😁🏁.
im looking for a gas one
@Big G. Wow, you really are special.🤣🤣
My ford kuga had this engine, with some simple mods;
Focus rs airbox
Kn filter
Iridium plugs
Mishimoto intercooler
Turbo back exhaust (mettams muffler)
Custom tune (ramp auto)
Sonnax zip kit
Turbosmart kompact
Absolutely ripped, draggy app said 5.7 0-100. Fuel economy when on the freeway was amazing, sounded decent for a 4 banger and was really great to daily (had H&R lowering springs too)
Sold it, bought lpg ba wagon lol - hope to drop a boss 290 In it and get a spoolin boost turbo kit for it 😁....one day
that would be epic to see!
That is a very cool and unique car! The word at the time was that it was an experiment to test the waters for the ecoboost engine on a RWD platform with the steering wheel on the correct side of the car to prepare for the mustang. Great video as always!!!
Steering wheel is on right side ya all nimrod
@@ronaldwarren1267 i did say the correct side of the car which is right hand drive. you got issues mate, what is your problem?
No Ross “Feel the powahhh” face. However I’m glad you showed us an unusual model.
love the weird and unusual eh
I bought a 2012 g6 ecoboost in 2014. Absolute steal at the time. Mint condition 23,000 on the clock and it was only $19k from a dealership. It was a good car. Compared to my 08 fairmont ghia, it wasnt lacking at all for the day to day driving. Sold the g6 and kept the ghia. Not because there was anything wrong with the ecoboost, i just prefer a lot of things more about a bf2 ghia over a fg2 g6.
There is an Ecoboost not far from me with a F6 bodykit, brakes, wheels and intercooler.
Looks the part...
Imagine of they made a variation that used the Diesel V6 from the Territory as well
diesel terry used a VM 4 cylinder (last used in the XJ cheep jerokee) and its shyte.
@@goosegarage78 no the Diesel Terry is actually a Jaguar/LandRover diesel V6 it was also featured
There was no 4cylnder optioned for the Terry
that would be cool eh
@@RossReviewsau the torque would be amazing
Wow saw one of these the other day and wondered about the eco boost badge, now I know
Glad I could help 🤙
I have a a 2012 Limited Edition G6 Ecoboost and I love her 💕
Very nice
I've had one for ten years now. Reliability from the engine has been solid. No issues at all but the inlet valves should be cleaned of carbon deposits.
Economy?! No. Power is power. If you lean on it it'll suck fuel.
Handling? Yeah, a little more balanced.
Hindsight I should have stuck with the Barra for two reasons:
The ZF is tuned to differently and isn't as seamless as it is with the Barra.
And secondly the smoothness of the Barra as well as its deeper burble.
They were the best handling Falcons , with the motor sitting behind the front axle.
drove really well
@@RossReviewsau underrated car, Ford had a piss poor marketing department, most people didn't even know this car existed.
And anyone that is getting 20ltr to the hundred in an ls anything has a dud engine! You talk about optimism but speak pessimism in the same comment
1st thing I would do, drop a Barra into it
🤣 love it
Why just buy one
😂😂😂
I thought is should be called the g4e
it should lol
Honestly never seen one of these in my life this is new to me
Glad I could teach you
Awesome vid👍ahead of its time, I reckon would sell well in today’s market, I would love have 2.0lt in Falcon ute n G6E interior. Yeah show pony but jokes aside nice cruise ute.
its a really nice cruiser.. great car (but i still love a barra)
Advantage was the weight distribution. It wasn't nose-heavy like the straight 6 or V8 Falcons.
Good point, the weight is really well balanced in this one.
Bigger intercooler and turbo n maybe slightly tune will give it a good doses of horsepower
I would pick one of these as a daily driver, just needs a dose pipe
gotta have a dose pipe lol
Just a few bits and pieces like an intercooler, intake ect and that 2.0L will fkn leave a non turbo falcon for dead IMO.. my parents had 1993 Fairmont 4.0L and I couldn't even get a wheel going.. maybe it had carbon buildup or something from being nannered for many years but it was so gutless. Jump in my 1.3L escort and pop a burnout anywhere just like my 1.6, 2.0 and 2.3L Corrina's, they were burnout machines lol
I'm putting a 2.3 eco boost into a 08 Ranger 4x2 ute it'll be a blast.
cool man! be interesting
8.8sec... try waking up the turbo first, see what happens
I had one of these on my Ps, heaps of fun for someone on their Ps
Great car
Noice Review Ross Reviews. Can you please bring out the Paddle Shifter SSV Redline in Melbourne next please.
To Ross Reviews
From Jordan’s car reviews
Coming soon
@@RossReviewsau thank you very much from Jordan’s car reviews
For outside like me, this basiclly an MK4 mondeo ecoboost without ford 6 speed wet clutch.
You should test the Fg ecolpi that are factory dedicated lpg. I find it drives better than the petrol fg.
Most of the Ecoboost Falcons were sold into the Ford executive fleet as they did not sell.and were sold off when Ford Australia shut up shop in Australia
yup ford employees bought most of them surprisingly
The fellow who owns that, keeps a really tidy car.
hes a legend.. very tidy car
if you want to modify one... its the mondeo/focus EB engine
The original ad on tv was quite funny, 2 cane toads mocking 4 cylinders lol
🤣 really I gotta look that up
falcon Body with 2.0. Do a Coyote Sway in that Falcon. 6 speed ZF Auto good gear box, may or may-not need to change Rear Diff. After Coyote sway put in cold air induction with catt back exhaust.
id love to see a Miami in one of these
@@RossReviewsau Then it's not an ECO BOOST car !
@@RossReviewsau i keep forgetting that Series 1 Coyote is called Miami in Australia.
Any chance of seeing a review of the transplanted XP’s? That would be epic
If I can find one I’ll test it out 😅
huh I never knew this existed, but it makes sense because the barra sucks down fuel!
The Barras are thirsty
Surprisingly nice car and pretty good performance for what it is Jon...but being a diehard Falcon nut as I am..Nup...just doesn't seem quite right ..Not shocked they didn't sell lots of them ...The ad for them that ended up being banned was great though... Ralphy , Ralphy , Oh Ralphy .....Cheers
So this engine was I the Lw-Lz focus st and the KFII ford kuga titanium (harder to find) so any focus st mods engine wise will work on this
possibly ;)
Yes Mate the old 2L Barra wannabe lol no just kidding, she's a perfect comfy cruiser Johnny & great on the fuel economy,my FG XR6 n/a is sitting at 11.6 ltrs per 100kms but I don't travel far so I don't know how much that would drop down if I did go on a long trip,I really enjoyed this review thanks bro.
First time I've seen one since they were announced. I didn't realise they actually sold any.
Not a lot 🤣
They also made a xr6 version of these i working for Ford at the time we were so confused why it was called a xr6
Are you sure about that? Or was that a prototype maybe
If only they had brought out a version with the focus RS donk in it. That would have been a different story.
Then chucked an xr body kit on it an had xr4 Turbos! That could have been sick!
now that would have been cool to see
It surprised me that Ford went for the 2.0L.
It was a travesty especially not receiving the Barra 🇦🇺🙄 Ford was very scared for its Mustang in the USA 🇺🇸
My 03 fairmont ghia 5.4 24v V8 uses between 6 and 7 liters per 100ks avg 9.4 🤔
Not bad
I would have found the 2 litre falcon as the replacement for the Cortina of 35 years earlier.
Oh gawd. Why am I getting Holden Starfire Four Commodare vibes here?
Fun fact. Ford allegedly detuned the gearbox shift times on these within months of release (remapped on first service) because......
Who wants to pay so much more for a na xr6 that gets (just) beaten from the lights by an XT ecoboost?
Sounds more like a not so fun fact. That's plain annoying and cheating.
I would take the NA Barra every day it just loafs along My BF Ute is just great I think but I prefer NA Engines cheers Mick.
Are the fuel savings worth it for slightly less power over the I6 version? I also heard these handle better.
I don’t think so.. but if you don’t care for the power it’s still a nice car
I have never heard of a 4 cylinder Falcon. Good review
Glad you learnt something
I would've bought one I have Ford Territory with the barra motor I love it the down fall am not happy with it is the 6 speed gearbox which Ford new about the problem but never did anything about.
Looks like a european spec ford cougar rearend
05 and ford mondeo mk4 frontend with slight modification on the headlights
Personal when these came out (just generalising) that category I put them in where 8 loud/expensive, 6 sweet spot/turbo fun, 4 good quite/cheap but gutless for anything practical.
i still agree with that haha
No matter what Ford or Holden did people wanted SUVs. They just didn't sell.
fair point
They should of sold them with the 2.7 territory diesel I feel that would of sold better than this back then but it definitely wouldn’t now
had one before called Monsta Toque about it & they said they won’t touch it
damn really! would love to see one done up
One has just come up for sale in Alice Springs in G6E guise.
Very nice cool cars for a daily
@@RossReviewsau ....I'm very tempted as my daughters first car. Just doing homework on the eco-boost engine's reliability record. Other than that, it looks neat. Anyway, second hand cars are a case by case basis.
@@RossReviewsau ....I'm very tempted as my daughters first car. Just doing homework on the eco-boost engine's reliability record. Other than that, it looks neat. Anyway, second hand cars are a case by case basis.
Should of had the turbo 5 in it
Never knew a 2.0L Falcon ever existed! I'm sure (I could be wrong) none made it to New Zealand.
I’m not sure if they made it to NZ 😅 pretty rare model
I don't mind the engine but long term reliability would be my main concern. Sure you can find them with high k's but most of them where rep mobiles doing high km's everyday vs an average use car and driving long km's everyday is often better for an engine than the average short trips. Do we know if the 2l ecoboost has any of the head gasket issues the 2.3l ecoboost had/has?
I didn't see the number plate at first but the moment you mentioned monsta torque I realized you was in WA. Good to see a local car chan on youtube.
WA channel here 🤙
Aussies have issue problems but a modern 4 cylinder with a turbo is going to have plenty of poke
Ford lost a wonderful opportunity in putting the 2:7 ltr diesel engine from the Ford Territory as the Territory was a falcon under the body shell. Would of been a great seller to the grey nomads towing Caravans etc.
Interesting eh!
Not gonna lie I'd love to see a done up Falcon as a G6E with this colour and those headlights 😍
That would be cool! its a good looking car
@@RossReviewsau Definitely is mate, kinda forgot about the G6e 2litre til you bought it up, your doing such a goo job with your videos as well Ross
Reviewers at the time reckoned they steer and handle better than the 6 due to less weight over the front. Do you mean downgrading to an Everest?
i didn't notice much difference but i wasn't pushing the car to hard.. (it didn't like to be)
I have a XR6 Ecolpi which has the Lux pack very cheap to run
Been looking for one of them
