In the world of investments, Malaysian investors often consider the Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) as a fail-safe choice with guaranteed capital, affordability, and mass popularity.
But, what if there's another investment option that could possibly yield even better returns?
This video will explore a comparison between ASB and another investment giant, the S&P 500 index, providing insights into their historical returns, fees, top holdings, limitations, and more.
ASB, tailored for Bumiputeras in Malaysia, guarantees the invested capital, offering returns in the form of yearly dividends and bonuses. This popular investment option provides a steady return with low volatility.
The S&P 500, on the other hand, is not directly purchasable; investors typically buy into it through exchange-traded funds like VOO and SPY. It has historically outperformed ASB in terms of long-term returns, but it also carries the possibility of negative returns.
The video offers an analytical comparison of the two, taking into account the historical returns, fees, top holdings, and limitations of each. While ASB provides a consistent 5-7.5% annualized return, the S&P 500 yields higher, at 10.2-13.7% before tax. Therefore, S&P 500 is a better choice for long-term investments, while ASB is more suited for short-term investments.
Other factors like expense ratio, fund size, denomination currency, underlying asset, taxation, brokerage/sales fee, accessibility, price, capital guarantee, and Shariah compliance are also discussed. The video concludes that both options have their pros and cons, and the best choice depends on one's financial goals, time frame, and risk tolerance.

People technically invest in ASB due to liquidity...
If they want the quick cash available ASB is the answer
If they want a downpayment for next home purchase, ASB is the answer
If rental asset need cash for anything ASB is the answer.
ASB is your "credit card" for the better investment due to liquidity.
And 5.1% is just top of the cake.
Possible to explain MntMgn in IB. What does it means? My mntmgn keep increase after I bought more stocks
Thank you
You’re most welcome brother
App to invest in s&p500?
Hi Ziet, loves your video information!
Do you know if in Rakuten Trade do VOO pay dividends ?
Hi Jason, yes they do!
Do you hv a video on that shariah compliant etf, and the broker or the platform that we can buy from?
Coming soon!
the asb rm2k limit per month is for online withdrawal. full withdrawal is available anytime via branch visit
Thank you for the video. Was just thinking about this the past weeks since I have been always investing in Malaysia market only. Our currency is so low and I doubt our economy is going anywhere better anytime. It worries me a lot with a young family to take care of. Yes you are right, why not both?
Your video always informative.
Is CSPX Ireland-domiciled for VOO (US-domiciled)?
Cos want to save tax.
Thanks.
I believe this is what you're looking for!

Hi ziet. I've been watching your videos for quite well. I want to ask you regarding raiz. What is your point of view y?
nice exposure to malaysian about investing other than asb. If there is a shariah one, many muslims would not hesitate to park their money. Would love to dive deep into s&p 500 shariah ❤
Those that can invest in ASB is unlikely to be able to the SPY by shariah compliance standard, right?
Yes for SPY. Which is why can consider ones like SPUS! Have a separate vid on this coming out soon.
Hi nice video. And can i know if VOO , can i buy it and sell it at anytime as just like playing stock ?
That's correct!
Bro, you always mention about s&p500. But what app u recommend for us to buy this snp500? For new beginner like us. Want to invest other than asb/mutual trust.. I mean for long term. Too many out there, stashaway, waheed, mytheo, rakuten trade.. what do you think?
Fundsupermart. You can do it every month.
Hi, Ziet, I get exposure for S&P 500 index VOO through your several videos previously. As a Malaysian who did not invest in US stock and for now there is a lot of platform for investing in US Stock, I would like to know if i would like to start investing in VOO, is Interactive broker still a recommended platform to be used?
Definitely! To date IBKR is still my main trading account, and here's why I recommend it, can check it out lol th-cam.com/video/qQOvH1PDR20/w-d-xo.html
Happy investing!
Hi Ziet, can do a video about popular US Dividend Income ETFs like SCHD and its UTICS equivalent to enjoy lower 15% withholding tax?
US dividend income etf is not suited for non US persons due to a 30% withholding tax
@@xxxcool2565 yes, US ones are not suitable. That’s why I ask Ziet if he could do a video for Ireland domiciled ones similar to SCHD.
2k withdrawal only by online. if u want to wd more than that. need to go to bank or pnb office. more security
Thanks for chipping this in!
My son told me the exactly same thing i.e. investing in S&P is the best.
You sir have a very smart kid!
Hi Ziet, can you make a video about your S&P 500 ETF investment strategy? For example, questions like when you would plan to sell it and whether you DCA each month etc.
Besides that, do you have any advice and strategies for newbies like me who want to invest in S&P 500 ETF?
Let’s cover that soon! Thank you for your suggestion🙏🏻
@@ZietInvests Thank you so much!
Is it true that max withdrawal for ASB only 2k? I think I had withdrawn >10k for my house purchase deposit....
Via online yes, i think can withdraw more through the physical counter
hey ziet, beginner here.
if we were to invest into s&p 500, so that means we will be cashing out in u.s. dollars as well right? So does this means if the return rate of asb & s&p500 was 5%, theoretically we would be making more by investing into s&p500 than asb due to u.s. dollar to myr exchange rate right?
Yes and no, you will technically earn more if ringgit depreciate more when you cash out. If it remains the same or ringgit miraculously shoot up, then you will earn less
Yes, in the long term, Ringgit always depreciates against USD. You can check the 20 year chart of RM against USD. Holding ringgit in general is not a wise decision
How do you escape the 30% dividend tax, Ziet ?
Hello. Can you share the link please ? Thanks
@@jefferykhoo7376hey just search "best S&P500 ETFs for Non-US". I tried sending link earlier but it doesn't show up
Hi, you don't escape, you just pay less via ireland domiciled ETFs instead (which mirrors the US ETFs), here you go: th-cam.com/video/VIM1fczQdAE/w-d-xo.html
IVV vs VOO?
Abang adik!🤭 Very marginal difference
ASNB is having fixed price and variable price.
FP is those ASB, ASB 2, ASB 3, ASM, ASM2, ASM3
ASM is for Malaysian whihc always slight low return as per compared to ASB but still good enought to beat inflation. While VP funds is a big NO NO.
Been a player under ASNB for 10 years.
If you would like to compare, compare DCA in ASB and in SP500, once a year. or even monthly. A clearer picture will be out. Not to mentioned the compounding interest in ASB which is the biggest highlight of the fund. Simple as you won't lose money if you enter ANYTIME.
Thus comparing 2 instrument will be abit off.
Till to date, no investment instrument in this world similar to ASB.
But i do agree at the last part regarding economy in malaysia. its doom.
If you need a defensive port a malaysia, ASB ASM is a better choice. ASNB wont collapse, if collapse so do malaysia.
SP500 is a good choice for young blood anyhow.
Thank you so much for your input, learnt something new myself today☺️
The comparison wasn’t meant to let people make an either Or decision, but more to show people the possible options out there without confining ourselves to the local investment vehicles only
@@ZietInvests i agree what you say. But trust me, if wasn't MYR go down the drain at this rate and IMDB saga, no one can beat ASB. I do actually calculated due to the nature of the fixed price, it is so resilient to literally everything, but not political instability...... Being too concentrated in BURSA is also killing it slowly...
Well with the dedollarisation the USD could weaken in the long term 😂
But SPY and VOO aren’t shariah compliant though 😅
I think that’d be important for the target demographic of this video
maybe SPUS can ?
Yep, that was addressed at the later part of the video😁 thanks for your feedback!
can buy HLAL etf as seen in wahed ,but the E.R is 0.5%
Just buy both.
Yas!💯
Hello US Debts are too high

Does the current time present a good opportunity to purchase cryptocurrencies? How long does it typically take for them to recover? Experts can excel in a declining market through strategic holding.
Even during economic crises, certain individuals manage to earn six-figure salaries. The crucial factor is having a strong understanding of the market and employing successful tactics.
@@GlenD.Vanherck-oc1 Keep this advice in mind always: investing involves both good and bad days, and it's a zero-sum game. Be wise in your spending and investment choices, diversify your holdings, and contemplate collaborating with a knowledgeable specialist who provides diverse investment options. By doing so, you can minimize regrets and potentially maximize gains.
@@CarolineLody Could you kindly suggest a specialist who offers a wide range of investment options? It's quite rare, and I'm excited to hear your recommendation.
