This is great, but also sad. Phil Hartman had so much more to give. He was a comedy genius. RIP.

this show was great because the actors had a diverse sense of humor....matthew bill beth joe dave....each a unique humor.. odd by themselves, but put it together and its funny as hell! RIP Phil.

I just watched a little documentary on this show and they said part of the reason it works so well is because they were always being threatened by the Network's who canceled. So every episode was written as if could be the last one... kind of as a slap in the face to the network execs. The actors treated it, the same. 💜💙💜💙💜

@@funniebunnie4u crazy, the network execs hated the show and changed timeslots like 10 times. here's the doc th-cam.com/video/CoZMJgDGfy4/w-d-xo.html

Agreed. That's what also made other great ensemble sitcoms like Cheers, Spin City, Night Court, Seinfeld, Martin, Married with Children, Taxi and Frasier work so well.

Phil Hartman's Bill McNeal was very much a successor to Ted Knight's Ted Baxter of Mary Tyler Moore Show fame. Both characters were hilariously pompous, arrogant blowhards who somehow became the funniest and most lovable characters of their shows. Both men are gone and here we are still adoring both of their iconic roles.

I didn't realize how the look of the character changed as the show went on. Were they trying to make him look older? He looks so young in the first few episodes, then his hair is longer and he's wearing the glasses more.
