I think the sdr/hdr content really excels in the u8k. The beautiful pic quality, brightness, deep blacks, and Dolby Atmos is such a great combination. I think oleds really struggle with sdr/hdr content. Plus Best Buy is selling the 65 for 1000 and 55 750. Great review btw. It’s refreshing to see someone actually test the TV and not just babble on like most reviewers do.

Hey Tech Steve, I’ve heard that this TV drops the signal at times if you use an HDMI splitter. Have you tested that and run into that problem? I currently use two splitters to hook up my gaming systems and would like to avoid this problem.

I got the 65' to upgrade from the u8g ... some pluses and few negatives in doing so.. overall im happy with it and can call it an improvement as the negatives are not a big issue...... my 1 complaint is with my tv itself.. as to a tv lottery there is a dud or should we say anomaly.. as to a true 10bit panel there are some shades the color doesn't hit and this can turn to being 1 color instead of 3 being blunded nice it blurs.... but my tv itself the dark blue where it almost gets purple lets say neon blue it goes wonky... i know other u8k's doesn't do this.. just mine instead of a perfect shade.. lets say how bluray's at night has a nice blue shade on things compared to dvd that were just dark.... the neon blue does not blend in it almost turns into an artifact which is moving black with a glow, so mine is just really bright dark blue in the middle with neon glow that kinda dances than blends.... its not a deal killer but some movies have this color and its just goes wonky lol.... i already went over the return but at the same time the 65' was a beast to put together and get on the tables i use as a stand... having to take down and rebox which i tore up trying to do everything would of been too much... but im still happy with the tv... next year i do want a true 10bit panel, better motion.. everything else i wanted since the u8g has already happened..

Is the subwoofer the same as the U7K at 20 watts? Watched both reviews, it sounded like the U7K hit harder for bass, could just be me though… which audio system is better U7K or U8K?

Can someone help me and suggest the best settings? I have noticed the system performs slow on the Home Screen, there is normally a half second lag when you hit the button on the remote. However, the picture has always been very nice. But I’ve noticed the last 3-4 weeks the frame rate is performing low and the smoothness is gone and I haven’t change or touched any settings. It’s happening on any app I use.

QUESTION: I bought the 75" U8K and it has so many glitches it is awful - especially with the USB Input with the "Media Center" app built into the TV. Have other people out there experienced these glitches such as being able to play a movie the "first" time you watch it, but not afterwards? After watching part of a movie, if it come back to try to finish the movie the movie will start to play, but then stop after about one half of a second. Also, movies with an Aspect Ratio of 2.35:1 or 4:3 are not properly displayed. Rather than seeing black bars on the top and bottom or on the sides, the TV stretches everything so it is "Fit" to a 16:9 ratio. It is not like this for movies in 1080p, but the 720p movies have problems. I downloaded the VLC app to watch movies using the Google Chrome Input, and this problem does not occur. However, using VLC the quality of the video is simply not as good. For whatever reason, the colors and bitrates and overall quality of what is being seen just isn't as good as the amazing quality seen from Media Center using the USB input. The problem is, the USB input has all those glitches.

    • @michaelzoran
      @michaelzoran 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@TechSteve I will see if Apple TV is available for an App that can be downloaded into the Hisense U8K. I'm disappointed to report that even the VLC app I downloaded is now experiencing problems. When I wrote the comment above, I thought that since there were "black bars" at the top and bottom of movies such as Watchmen and Fast and Furious, it meant the problems with Aspect Ratio with 720p movies had been corrected. But, I was wrong. I will explain.
Today I was watching the movie "Watchmen" and there were black bars at the top and bottom - the way it is supposed to be. But, I noticed multiple times the movie simply didn't seem to look right. I then compared different viewing modes of the VLC app. Unfortunately, the mode that correctly displays "black bars" at the top and bottom is also "cropping" part of the top of the movie and part of the bottom of the movie. This was particularly noticeable in the Watchmen scene where Night Owl is having dinner with Miss Jupiter. The entire chin of Night owl is cropped off at the bottom, and the entire upper head is cropped off at the top. This means VLC also does not fix the problem with the U8K having so many problems with "stretching" and properly displaying the aspect ratios with the resolution of 720p.
I tried the movie called "It" in 720p resolution, which has an Aspect Ratio of 4:3. There should be black bars on the sides. But, when VLC was displaying the black bars on the sides, it was not being done properly because the movie clearly was having problems with "stretching."
Steve, these types of problems simply do not occur with PC Windows 10 apps such as MPC-BE, MPC-HC, and the Windows version of VLC. How in the world can these types of problems NOT occur on PCs, but the TV sets cannot even play 720p movies properly when there is an Aspect Ratio of 2.35:1 or 4:3 or anything other than 16:9?
I am trying to writ a detailed report to Hisense. Currently it is four pages long, but I'm only about halfway done. Do you think Hisense could fix these problems with a Firmware Update?
I got a phone call from a Hisense technician. I said, "My first problem was when I tried to use a 256GB with a memory card from a company called Silicon Power in NTFS format." The technician said, "That is the problem; it needs to be in FAT32 format." I said, "You are correct, Hisense has told me that for a 'Firmware Update' the memory card always needs to be USB FAT32, which can be no larger than 32GB in size. However, I was not trying to do a Firmware Update. I was just trying to watch a movie. Yet, I didn't even get the chance, because the Hisense TV told me there was an Android Error and the data may be corrupt. The remote control buttons would not work at all."
The technician then stopped listening, as if he only wanted to come to my house to make some money looking at the TV. But I told the technician, "I'm not the only person having these problems with the U8K. Other people are having problems like this online. Even in the reviews online, the U8K is reported as a TV with 'Bugs" and 'Glitches,' which makes me think the solution is a Firmware Update."
What are your thoughts on this, Steve? Do you have any connections at Hisense so you could tell those Hisense representatives about my situation? I have videos I'm going to upload to TH-cam within the next few days, but it is very frustrating and time consuming.

@@TechSteve. Hey, Steve. Greetings from Houston. I currently have a Samsung 85' QN90A. I want something bigger and better for a dark control room. I love OLED, but the G4 83' or 98' are too expensive. The Hisense 100' U8K is back to $3,000, and the 98' Sony X90L went down to $5,000. Is it worth the $2,000 difference? I also have a Sony OLED 77' X80J, so I know what Sony brings to the table in regards to processing and upscaling low content, but $2,000 is a lot. What would you recommend for size and price at these sizes ( 98-100). I don't do any gaming. I Just do streaming, OTA, and 4k UHD blu-ray movies. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks.

@@TechSteveHey bud, much props to you for your patience with (maddening) comments! Am new to YOUR channel, a professional in the(commercial & higher-end) custom A/V industry, and historically an LG cat for near 20 years along w/ past Panasonic & Sony installer/designer. Re: some of the uninformed and/or plain silly comments to many of your various vids this year, add the BOLD recommendation of at least searching over titles of previous vids of yours; might save you time & certainly would help the contrarians & negative nannys!
Folks (kids?) need to appreciate & understand the following example story; "LG" & "Samsung" were exactly where "Hisense, TCL, etc. are just 18+ years ago! As a Pioneer, Panasonic & Sony dealer, we scoffed at LG & Samsung (& Korea then) at their attempts to compete with the established giants. They stayed after it and here we are. VIZIO had a similar rise, then fall, then migration.
Time will Tell for sure but the likes of newcomers Hisense and TCL units, from reading some manuals & helping friends & family over last few years with their purchases to watching various YT vid producers on the brands, are giving it a good go. We'll see.
Keep up the detailed effort. 💪🤟.

Standard and filmmaker mode look good in sdr/hdr, tweak it to your preference. Change that color space setting to bt2020 on movies/sports. It gives color that pop. Auto is good but can be flat. Minus the dark detail between -1 to -5 to get the best blacks. Dolby vision, do the custom one to get it to your preference.
