In an old band i was the bassist and the guitarist couldn't play the solo to a certain song so I learned how to play it on bass too and it sounded so much better on bass. The song was big mouth strikes again by the smiths. I would love to hear your version of it Davy...
I wasnt much of a "bass" fan until I got my hands on a thunderbird bass. I know it's not for everyone, but it really resonated with me. The feel, the tone....just fun af.
Davie actually has a video playing drums. Maybe later we could have a "Davie504 playing drum solos" video... or a "Davie504 playing drum solos on BASS" video.
My father was the biggest Pink Floyd fan I've ever met, and he recently passed away due to lounge cancer, and seeing/hearing you play Comfortably Numb so brilliantly caught me offguard, and it teared me up right away!
I always thought bass was "easy guitar" untill I heard Victor Wooten, The Omnific, and Davie504. Now im gonna add basses to my collection of instruments. Bass is the way
A lot of people make this same error in their thought process. Yes, the bass is a background instrument. It’s intentionally designed and tuned as to not overpower the lead guitar. That being said, it doesn’t mean that the riffs are any less complex. The fact that he can play these solos on an instrument that’s not designed for it speaks to the level of talent required to play bass at his level.
It is easy to make that assessment about "easy guitar" and yet I've always been impressed by the bass with bands like Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Primus, Stone Temple Pilots, and Duran Duran. Les Claypool really has always stood out to me with changing the image of Bass being a rhythm instrument into it being a lead instrument. The bass in Duran Duran from the Rio album is what inspired me to love the bass even more. It also really depends on the bass guitarist too. When Stevie Ray V would play Jimi Hendrix songs, his bass player would alter the bass sections cause he didn't like how easy and simplistic it all was, especially in Third Stone From The Sun where it was the same few notes over and over for minutes on end.
@@aniximander In what way? It's still a bass. If someone told me I couldn't play bass songs on my saxophone, I'd just grab a baritone sax (usually saxophones sound a few chords lower than written.) If the chords aren't adequately low on the baritone, I can use a bass sax. If not high enough, chances are I can still use a baritone and just play a higher range. All of those are still Saxophones. Bass GUITARS are a form of guitar; they're just the lowest range of guitar available. Are double neck guitars cheating if you're playing a piano song on guitar? Is it cheating to use a 80 key piano when you wanna play a Harp Song? (43 strings plus 7 pedals for use in ANY key.) If the challenge was to do any of those things; and the claim was that you cannot do those things on those instruments; then those are all valid methods of proving that assertion wrong. The entire point of those instruments and variations was because someone would prefer the sound of that instrument, with the pitch to match their song.
Californication bass solo fits in so well that it could be the actual solo of the song. Other solos sound weird when played on a bass, but this one sounds even better that its guitar counterpart.
Aside the humour (which I also appreciate) you really captured the authenticity of those solos and did a great job of making them appropriate for the bass. You've just given me some quality solo arrangement to transcribe there, thanks!
Yeah, the seams on his bald cap weren't too great on some of the videos and made it really obvious. But, it was a cool little stunt while it lasted with the bald pianist. lol
He does make it look rather simple huh? Like, why the hell can't YOU do this? attitude!!!! I'm thinking two things, if you're getting paid to play the bass you're gonna improve with leaps and bounds, and also, it could be coming from editing as well! There's always the "magic" factor with anything we're watching instead of being there in person. Don't get me wrong, I play Bass myself, he is very strong with the force slap! But making it look so damn effortless may be half the editing department. Any way you spin it, I'm loving all the vids of BASS, screw the ridiculous meme and trolling vids, it's a waste of everyone's time!!!

This was like watching a Freddie Mercury cover where all the high notes were taken down an octave
except playing high notes is easy, while singing them isn't.
@@StrobeVisions true! I was still hoping he'd use some artificial harmonics
Best advice for a singer: if you can’t hit the high notes, drop down an octave.
He didn't play bohemian Rhapsody 😭😭😭😭
He's talking about me 🤣
i started out as a guitarist and obviously ended up falling in love with bass. In an old band i was the bassist and the guitarist couldn't play the solo to a certain song so I learned how to play it on bass too and it sounded so much better on bass. The song was big mouth strikes again by the smiths. I would love to hear your version of it Davy...
God First
I wasnt much of a "bass" fan until I got my hands on a thunderbird bass. I know it's not for everyone, but it really resonated with me. The feel, the tone....just fun af.
dang I'd love to hear that version!! Bigmouth is one of my favourite songs by the Smiths and it already has such a fantastic bassline!
Still a guitarist but bass has stolen my heart, wish I could play both at the same time though hahaha
It has a fun cover by Placebo.

Some random guy: "I bet davie504 can't play a drum solo!" Davie: Somehow figures out how to do so "checkmate".
Davie actually has a video playing drums. Maybe later we could have a "Davie504 playing drum solos" video... or a "Davie504 playing drum solos on BASS" video.
Bass and drums are best friends, he would never go after drums

Parallel universe: eivad405 plays the most famous bass solos on guitar
There are no famous bass solos
My father was the biggest Pink Floyd fan I've ever met, and he recently passed away due to lounge cancer, and seeing/hearing you play Comfortably Numb so brilliantly caught me offguard, and it teared me up right away!
Sorry, for your loss.

Here it is, 5 months later, with a 5 stringz bass
mike watt
The fact that he has a collection of basses with more than 4 strings, but he still played those solos with just a 4-string bass. LMAO
that was truly epic
I actually love that. A 6 string base would have been cheating 😋
Could’ve played it on his 24 string bass
Those are in Italy
@@aniximander In what way?
It's still a bass.
If someone told me I couldn't play bass songs on my saxophone, I'd just grab a baritone sax (usually saxophones sound a few chords lower than written.)
If the chords aren't adequately low on the baritone, I can use a bass sax.
(43 strings plus 7 pedals for use in ANY key.)
If the challenge was to do any of those things; and the claim was that you cannot do those things on those instruments; then those are all valid methods of proving that assertion wrong. The entire point of those instruments and variations was because someone would prefer the sound of that instrument, with the pitch to match their song.
Californication bass solo fits in so well that it could be the actual solo of the song. Other solos sound weird when played on a bass, but this one sounds even better that its guitar counterpart.
It very clearly doesn't
I'd love to hear Davie play Eric Johnson's "Cliffs of Dover"

Davie: How dare you
Aside the humour (which I also appreciate) you really captured the authenticity of those solos and did a great job of making them appropriate for the bass. You've just given me some quality solo arrangement to transcribe there, thanks!

It's almost like Davie isn't even trying anymore. He has ascended to a level that mortals cannot understand.
So true
