Great video. Just one quick TTL tip for you, kind sir: fire the flash in TTL and if it's perfect first shot, hold the TCM button on the pro trigger for about 2 seconds and it transfers the last shot output to Manual flash mode, locking it in. Your trigger's LCD screen will now show Manual mode and the settings it has locked in. Therefore, it 'saves' you time rather than costing you time. When you do the TTL initial shot - zoom in on your main subject's face before firing, so the camera meters for that and not other parts of the scene, such as your bride's white dress/groom's dark suit. When you get used to it, it's literally one shot in TTL, convert to manual, fire away getting identical exposures every shot until you repeat the process for a different scene or change in lighting position/direction. For Canon shooters, follow what I said above, but instead of even taking the first shot you can simply press the exposure lock button, which will fire the flash without taking a shot and store the flash output. Then press the TCM button on the trigger for 2 secs, etc.

Very nice to see this technique still be used today. I was doing this 35 years ago using the Lumedyne system and Hasselblads. The advancement in technology has made this a nice super light and compact system to work with. Nice work and an enjoyable video.

i've been using the V1 and XproC with my Canon R5 and have been having some incredible shoots with it. Im loving the combo. Decided to go with the V1 over the profoto, mainly because of the price but I havent had any negatives yet so thats good. The one issue I run into is bouncing the light in a difficult situation, like different elevation ceilings or dark rooms etc. But been working around lol.

Great video. I tend to over analyze too much with the ocf stuff. And their are too many videos out their who advocate it. It's good to hear someone who keeps it grounded and for good reasons.
I know that I leave some potential quality not captured by bringing in modifiers, but I feel like it gets me 90% of the way there without making the wedding day all about the photographer and his gear rather than the couple haha.

Go with the Flashpoint r2 pro mark ii if you are looking for a trigger. Same cost, has more options to use and the buttons are back lit. Flashpoint/godox work together.
I used to think the same in not overdoing certain photos like this but to each bride or bride and groom this photo is unique to them. I always ask if they want this shot the day of if it’s dark and rainy. I have to remind myself that I’m not shooting for myself but for my couples often.

You missed out on the most obvious thing that you can do, putting multiple yellow gels along with an orange to re-create sunset photos. The golden hours type of photos. This works great on cloudy days or after the sun is gone down and you’re in the twilight. You can also put your flash on your hot shoe and pointed at a 45° angle to the upper right, and it will bounce the flashback like an off-camera flash. That’s the way that I use it for majority of my weddings because it’s mobile. And by having it open to the right if I go to portrait mode it’s then facing straight up towards the ceiling instead of if it was to the left it would be facing to the ground.
My dear friend, I am very fan of you, I bought your presets, but I have a cruel doubt, I use nikon D750 and I want an UPGRADE, I was thinking of going to Sony A7iii or Nikon D850, you have some video that can tell between the two cameras what are the advantages and disadvantages and why you use the Nikon D850 which by the way is a hell of a camera ... Great tips, Mr. Jackson. I last shot weddings in 2010 and wish I had some of this info back then. I did use off-camera flash using PocketWizards but your strategies are much better. At one wedding outdoors, there was a videographer team using their annoying lighting but I managed to get one image using their light to silhouette the bride and groom. Just luck.
Love Godox for what they have done, on that note the main issue(s) are if you're using non Godox strobes you can not control the lights even with the firmware updates. All you have is a trigger it's looking like Yongnuo is the only flash controller that will work with your mix of lights.

I used my flashpoint v860ii speed light as my trigger. It was more useful that way for me because if I was walking around the reception and someone wanted a photo quick, I could still take it and keep my iso down. My other two lights would stay around the dance floor or wherever you have them setup.
Recently been using the Godox V1 as off-camera flash as my very first flash unit, but not strong enough here in the Las Vegas desert especially if it is before sunrise outdoor, so just returned it for Godox AD200, looking forward to incorporating with Magmod too
I really wanted to boost my photos on events and i wanted to buy a new camera I have a D5300 +50mm and 35mm f1.8 , but now that i see you with this off flash it might help me alot because i have a 80$ flash and is OK but when i flip on the horizontal shoot is a disaster . Tanks alot of all your videos ! I hope one day i will have my own studio.
Worth saving for for sure. I've also picked up a lot of used SB700s for pretty cheap that are also very good. Godox makes speedlights at smaller price points as well
I bought 3 V1 units, but I did not like his protection system, after about 20 sequential photos in the TTL wedding during the day in the open, it heats up and gives a space of time around 18 seconds to reload again !! I found that I need to turn off the flash to work again, but as I had 2 more units off camera, I had to turn off all ... terrible !! In the case of my other Canon system, I have to wait for 3 seconds to recharge but the Canon doesn't get safe the way the V1 does, so I thought it was better to have the canon for 3 sec whenever this whole problem than the V1 did. Now I got an AD200pro KIT and I will test in the same condition, the AD200pro for testing is going very well, but I haven't done a heavier job with them, it is currently under observation. Finally the V1 in my case was very problematic, apart from the detail that one of them with a week of use appeared something loose inside the flash, is a screw noise or something loose .... but is still working, as the guarantee is è I can not change because it works but there is something loose inside !! rss, my tip would be to do true tests and put the information in the videos, because say that he makes 480 photos in load 1-1 is missing if he recycles 1.5 seconds in these 480 clicks in 1-1, in my practice not It worked, after 22 clicks in 1-1 he enters the safe mode and then you will have all the problem that I said at the beginning of the text. In the future who knows a version V2 or V10 will have a better delivery for this case.

If the room is orange/tungsten lighting, do you recommend always putting a cto gel and lowering the WB to match/balance the tungsten lighting? When would you put a CTB gel, if the room is daylight/blue then set WB to a higher Kelvin?
I'm always bare bulb if it's daylight and just continue on my cloud or shade wb. If it's orange/tungsten I'm for sure changing my white balance to match it. On Nikon it still always feels a bit warm on lightbulb icon mode, but I feel like that better captures the true environment
