What I like about Debbie is that she is strong in her own way. She is a kind and empathetic woman who is not afraid to stand up to anyone, even if they are all powerful and can easily snap her like a twig. She may not be one of the strongest characters in the show, but she's one of the bravest.
She definitely one the most admirable characters on the entire show, especially her confidence
She saved the world by challenging Nolan's actions and beliefs and nurtures Mark into the greatest hero Earth has ever seen. Debbie deserves more credit, she is an amazing example of a strong female character that isn't reduced to a gender role swap

Even after Nolan's reveal in the first season and he becomes an ally again in the comics, even he doesn't want to risk pissing her off.

@@calebhutchinson5759 In other words, she saved the world by being a great wife and an amazing mother. If she was weak in either of those things, Nolan might not have defected in his mission, and Mark may not have had the humanity to challenge Nolan as much as he did.
You know what’s sad? I think Nolan was HAPPY that Mark didn’t have powers at first; because then he could still be technically ‘fulfilling his mission’ and get to live with this family for the rest of their natural lives. He also wouldn’t have had to kill the Guardians. Nolan would’ve been able to keep up the charade for a while longer and I think he secretly really wanted that.
that's why he questioned it when Mark got his powers. In that moment, he was seeing his next actions as a loyal Viltrumite, having to abandon that life. Up until that point, he had become content as a superhero with a normal family. He then saw himself having to destroy all of that, how it was only a small portion of his long life, and the eventual completion of his mission. The human and earth project had become a success for Viltrum, but not for Omniman and his family.
@@mikey._.33yep and when he was telling the truth about where they come from to mark that speech was to try and make him convince himself it is the right thing to do especially when he called Debbie a pet. In truth he was only convincing himself and mark but Nolan was already to conflicted about everything.
I can imagine Nolan burying the last remnants of his family (his great-great-great grandson) in a few hundred years and then leaving Earth, reporting to the Viltrum Empire that his mission didn't bear any fruit and to leave the planet alone to conserve resources.
He hinted it very obviously by saying "maybe it would be better if he didn't get his powers". So don't need to dig that deep, it's on the surface.
He said it directly in the comic that he prayed for his power to never awaken

yeah lol, if it were netflix, she'd be dead and her death would be the motivation for the young male main character (weird it happened twice when I thought I'd be hooked on a show, tekken and this cyperpunk anime), maybe in the multiverse where mark sides with omniman, she died years ago

I don’t think Debbie gets enough credit. Being a great wife and mother, plus a genuinely decent person that taught her family the value in humanity likely saved the Earth countless times.

The most accurate and praiseworthy representation of a stellar mom and loving wife in modern media today. Often, in shows with superheroes, you can be easily annoyed or be put off by the mundane characters, but Debbie shines the whole time as a bastion of wisdom for Mark and morality for Nolan, at times Cecil as well. Where Amber was the most hateful person in the show, Debbie was the most lovable.

@@maqaeda I wasn't commenting on it from the perspective of a person in the story. Within the story and to the characters in it, Nolan is the most evil and nefarious character. However, audiences are far more likely to hate Amber as a character. She is sold as virtuous, but behaves in awful ways. Nolan is despicable, and he is sold to you as such. Amber is awful and sold to you as a saint in the narrative and script. I was commenting on the metalogical writing of the show, not its in-story dynamics. Debbie was a hit and Amber was a miss, and that caused me and many others to loath her character. This was improved substantially in the second season, perhaps a little over-corrected, and now they're walking the knife's edge as writers trying to sell a redemption arc for Nolan. I personally don't much like redemption arcs, so we'll see where it goes.

I love how much more attention Debbie gets in this show than she does in the comics. With the comic series, Debbie's not an overly important character all that much. In this series we get a lot more added depth to her character and you can tell that although she's not a superhero that she's a good influence on Mark since she's a strong reminder to Mark about how despite his powers, that he's just as much as a part of humanity as he is a part of the Viltrumites. And in the season 1 finale, I think it properly justifies why Mark is so adamant about defending Earth from Nolan and the Viltrumite empire more so than in the comics since we're shown Debbie's influence on Mark's behavior and how he's much closer to her than to Nolan since Mark's been normal most of his life up until this point and although he wanted to be a so called "Hero" like Omni-Man, Mark was much closer to his mom since she was supportive and caring in ways that Nolan never was.
Do you love it? Lol, personally I would have never in a million years spent more time developing her than Eve.
@@gibbjonathan22 yeah I do because the development of Debbie's character in this show serves a purpose as it properly demonstrates to the audience about why Mark is a a true hero unlike the other Viltrumites since unlike in the comics, we see how it's because of Debbie's influence in Mark's life that makes his humanity the dominant part of his own strength of character. As for Eve, it was only the 1st season and I'm sure they'll give proper arcs for her.

It is through those connections that we see highlights of their beings, of what makes them different and special through their interactions and comparison. This makes them more believable, as opposed to just make them perfect or just good from the get go. Essence of the phrase "Show, don't tell".

The most unbelievable part about Mark isn't his extraordinary abilities. It's that he's a teenage boy and he didn't lock the bathroom door. That and wiping your browser history should be like an unconscious action. Like blinking.
This show has Sandra Oh, Steven Yeun and J.K Simmons constantly trying to outdo each other, and I love it.
1:20 he was not emotionless, he was genuienly sad that he realized he had to continue his conquest rather than living his beautiful live :/
It was so sad when Mark came upstairs asking if his mom wanted to order food, then Mark found her crying on her own so he slowly leaves. All of what happened in the final episode was so painful for her as a wife, and a mother but she couldn't show any weakness in front of Mark cause he needed support especially while he was still recovering at the hospital. She even only cried after leaving the room where Mark couldn't see her. She had to hold back all that heartbreak. But when she was alone in her and Nolan's room, she just broke down after all that has happened. Thinking about my own mom, I just thought about how parents(good parents), will hold back tears or hide that they're in pain, just to support their kids when they need them. I guess this show just reminded me of the fact that I have a very good mom and a very bad dad, and seeing Debbie all hurt made me think of my own mom and how she's always been the one taking care of me and not my good for nothing dad.
The “You, Dad…” line will always hit me, but the moment where Debbie cries brought me to tears for the exact reasons you mention here. Someone else commented that Debbie, while not at all the strongest, is the bravest character in the show, and besides maybe Mark himself, I’d agree.
5:58 I watch this part and I wonder how Nolan doesn’t have his own origin special primarily about his early days on Earth and when he first became a father. It sounds like a very nice story with a lot of potential to build on.

The truth was Nolan's time on Earth did change him, but he didn't want to admit that because that would mean admitting everything he learned on Viltrum was wrong. It would mean the thousands of years he spent slaughtering and enslaving innocent people and pledging his loyalty to the Viltrumite Empire would be for nothing.
And this is exactly why Sandra Oh is so deeply missed by so many Grey’s Anatomy fans ❤️

Debbie, William, and Rick in Season 1, Donald and Andressa in Season 2, they're weak, but they're heroes. They know what matters in life and take steps toward making the world a better place, even without powers

I truly love how the show not only improves on Debbie, but because of how powerful of an actress they got for the role in Sandra Oh, Debbie has been given far more nuance than she ever did in the comics. Hopefully they don’t make her get back together with Nolan though as it just wouldn’t make sense for her after the journey she’s gone on

Omniman was very lucky man who had such a great woman like Debbie, if I was in his place I would always care and protect my family no matter what happened. The family (at least a very big percentage) always will love and support their family member no matter what happens, because even the best country or empire they never care about their own people well being always will view their people as material and they always view them as assets and nothing more.

This is how you build a "strong and independent" woman. It's not about woman should be the main or woman should fight just like men does, it's about woman being strong emotionally. Men is strong physically, but they're weak inside, and that's where a woman find her place in that heart. Women are weak physically so men are there to support them. Debbie literally turned a cold, heartless and ruthless conqueror into a loving husband, a respected father and hero, and she turned a teenage boy into a brave hero.

Vegeta saw it, Piccolo saw it, Goku even said it himself, and even before then, we the fans hated that they did that to Gohan. Chi Chi was asking for too much. Maybe in our world, yes, we can understand her wishes, but in a world like their's, or in DC and Image, where mothers like Lois Lane and Debbie Grayson gave birth to and raised one of their worlds' most powerful beings, they did a better job at it because they understood their purpose.

I love how Debbie is always pushing Mark to save lives whilst his Dad is always trying to push Mark to tackle harder challenges. I like how she understands being a superhero more than Nolan who is the actual ‘superhero’. Despite how bruised and bloody Mark might get he knows that he’ll have her by his side no matter how much she loses herself in the process.
