He was heading out towards the door at the start. Teleporting lets Donald know he is most definitely no longer in the room, that he won't interfere with what he is about to see.

The fact that he is just a human, back then he doesn't know about being a robot and didn't use his robot power, and still sacrifice himself is a sign that he's more heroic than some "heroes".

The fact that in every single one of those videoclips plus his recent death at the hands of Omni-Man showed that his deaths was done in the safety and well-being of his fellow man shows that at his heart: Donald is as much of a Hero in his own right.

Donald is the real Invincible
When you first meet Donald, you expect him to be wimpy and cowardly. Except he isnt that. Even in early episodes, Donald doesn't run away. When the Kaiju moved, Donald flinched but not in the way where someone would run away. He was ready to throw hands with a beast 20 times his size. When Omni man broke into the house, Donald didnt run away. He yelled at everyone to run away, grabbed a gun, and started shooting Omni man so everyone else would have a better chance at surviving. This scene just makes the point that Donald is a chad even stronger than before. He would have made Hank proud 😢

I really like Cecil character in this show he’s ruthless but also human.
I think the funny thing is, Cecil's ruthlessness is BECAUSE he's so human. He's cold and calculating because he's also very passionate and emotional, his choices are made out of fear and desperation to protect as many and as much as he can and it does eat at him. But in some ways his choices also show just how idealistic he ultimately is, deep down. Bulletproof's assessment of the Guardians wasn't inaccurate, but Cecil still chooses to believe in them even though he's honestly got the resources and even an army of reanimen that could theoretically do a better job and follow his orders.
@@AzureSkyCiel I think that explains why he wants someone like Donald around and keeps rebuilding him every time he dies, he needs someone who has a good moral compass as his right hand to ensure he doesn't go to far.
Then enjoy it till you can, because as the show will progress, he will become more villain type of human...

Love this twist. Donald shows his justifiably upset reaction telling Cecil that Cecil is a jerk...Only for Cecil to show that Donald has been injured to the point of no return before but chooses to be rebuilt and wiped clean to fight a good fight for the sake of others. Judging from Cecil's actions, this same dance has happened many times with even Cecil getting slightly worried (but at the same time, really impressed) at Donald's sheer integrity and willpower to look at the Eldrich horrors straight in the eye and nervously say "If you want to hurt the people under my protection, you will have to square up to me."
Donald has given his life for his agency at least 39 times. And when made fully aware of everything that has happened, he chooses to stay in the game. He is as much a hero as ANYBODY with superpowers and a costume. Maybe more so.

It wasn't for the organization, but to help save others. Every time he died, he was sacrificing his own to save a life.
I disagree with @turboy65 and @zeushernandez9639 on parts of this comment chain.
Donald didn't give his life for his agency. He gave his life protecting people, some within the agency others without. And in doing so, he proved that he hadn't lost his humanity, even though he had less human biology left each time. He proved that despite the changes, his humanity was still as strong and essentially unchanged.
So, one thing I will agree with is that Donald is one hell of a Hero. Drop him into the MCU, and he would make one hell of an Agent of SHIELD.
At least 39 people are still able to live out their lives today, thanks to Donold. 39 families and loved ones spared the pain of losing someone. If that's not a hero, I don't know what is.

Cecil's a complicated man; he's turned his assistant into essentially a cyborg zombie that's only 2% of the original man he was; yet on the other hand, he could get an endless supply of assistants with the same drive and competence as Donald, but will spend limitless resources ensuring that every time he dies in the line of duty, he can live again. There's no practical reason NOT to bury him and move on, but Cecil sees an additional factor: Donald's a damned hero, and he deserves to live again.
Read the comics and you'll see how much of his own soul that Cecil has had to figuratively sacrifice getting the way he is.

And he lets Donald decide whether to live with all the deaths he's had or whether to erase those memories and continue like nothing ever happened.
Just goes to show that, as cold and callous as Cecil can come off, there's still a scrap of humanity clinging on inside him.
Every time Donald died, he thought he was just a regular human with a singular life and he was willing to risk that life doing the right thing. The mind of a hero.

It occurs to me...
When Donald demands that everyone...the staff...clears the room so he can confront Cecil...
...they all probably know that Donald has confronted Cecil before; and has seen him do it, time and again.
...but everyone also probably knows that Donald has sacrificed himself repeatedly to save employees just like them; so the respect they show him isn't diminished.
It isn't pity...it's acknowledgement that the most noble among them is going through the same routine to get back to where he NEEDS to be.

I'd say that's likely mostly true. It's probably happened before but most probably wonder how he's still alive. Most of Donald's life is definitely so highly classified that you'd need a top secret security clearance just to learn the name of the security clearance needed to read Donald's fucking Twitter lol.
So they probably know enough to know that this man should absolutely not be standing here. Individually some may know of a few deaths. Otherwise, the secret couldn't realistically be kept.

I half expected Donald to die right there after helping rick, just to continue the pattern.
This is even better. It is perhaps the first time Donald has saved a life without having to sacrifice himself, while at the same time preventing someone else from losing their life only to be rebuilt again.
You have to think about it, each cyborg probably costs millions of dollars to recreate Donald and put his brain. This is how much Cecil admires Donald and sees him being important because in each video, he has saved lives and still chooses to sacrifice his life for it without realizing it wouldn't be his last.
And if his 98% number is accurate, then it's literally just his brain, which is 2% of the body. Meaning at some point early on, like 1st or 2nd death, Cecil ordered the R&D needed to ensure Donald's brain would be physically protected from insane forces AND survive long enough for retrieval.
Cecil may spend 5 million a teleport to avoid using doors, but to keep Donald alive he spent the entire defense budget of a medium sized nation.
Cecil has been shown to value human life in general but he views Donald as invaluable and indispensable.
This new King of the Hill series with Bobby working for Dale is better than I was expecting.

Has no powers and no knowledge that he's a reanimated cyborg (thanks to memory wipe), still goes toe-to-toe with world ending monsters and god-like supermen with no hesitations just to save the lives of others. Despite having a big important government job still makes time for William and Rick, people he only recently met and helps them with emotional trauma. Truest hero in the show.

N Debbie, among all the non supers heroes. If it wouldn’t for Debbie, Mark would’ve gone rogue with his Dad and start a tyranny for the Viltrumite empire. Debbie also gave up of suicidal thoughts despite the pain Omniman gave. I craved to be as mentally strong as her.

Maybe a couple of times but the way things are shown it is implied that Donald rarely finds out he is a cyborg. And this is the first time he wanted his memories back.

@fakename2926 how is that a big issue? Everytime he died before he was less of his human body left. It was also only because Debby someone that knew he was dead but that wasn't read into his resurrection that he began to suspect anything this time.
Probably only once. As far as we know, Donald never found out those previous times.

The chance is always there. However, Cecil is never one to lie. He simply covers grey areas in a line of shadow. It's kind of why he comes off as inconsiderate and rude. But he is always honest in what he says and does. Why bring a man back from the dead like that unless he had asked for him to do it. If he could always do that, then why not do it to every other person in the organization? Why only Donald?

@@suarez9108 good liars seldom tell full lies, because it's much easier and more effective to just leave out details and neglect to share key pieces of information. Outright lying is often clumsy and sloppy, but a reputation of sorts for a kind of harsh, brutal honesty can help conceal the few times they do it, similar to how someone known for gossiping and being bad at keeping secrets and confidences can be really good at keeping quiet about a few choice things.

3:01 Even though his head is messed up and he's overly focused on Sinclair, Rick's first action with this new information is to try and empathize.
Donald made me remember the manga "Inuyashiki" with their original body gone and being replaced with machine. In that manga Inuyashiki thought he wasn't human anymore and incapable of crying and feeling human emotions. Until he saved a homeless man's life in the park did he felt human again, doing what's right and saving people in trouble. The quote Donald said that they're not their bodies but the decision they make, is greatly similar to Inuyashiki, heck even the ending of that anime/manga clearly states so with the antagonist of the series.

Just goes to show that you shouldn't devalue stories just based on their medium. The myth that things like comics and video games can't tell good stories is long since disproven.
by third party you mean non marvel or non dc ? well if you look at gaming industry a lot of innovation comes up from indie developers until they get acquired. Its just once a company gets bigger the creative decision making goes from the actual creators to hot shot CEOs.
Image comics, the publisher of the invincible comics, is the third biggest comicbook publisher after dc and marvel. They are huge, this is not just a big hit from some small company, they regularly produced comics like this. With it becoming an animated series Invincible became even better which yo cant always count on with adaptations

I've been finding lots of storylines similar to this lately. I feel like I need to go back to see happier stuff, but those feel so hollow after seeing all this.
Now Donald is the type of G-Man you want protecting your country. Dude has balls of steel to show bravery in near impossible odds so he can save his fellow man.
Sometimes the strongest of us aren't the ones that can destroy whole planet's. Sometimes the one's with real strength are the ones who never fail to do the right thing regardless of what happens to them.

Cecil has probably had to do this 39 times and has had the same 39 conversations. Yet he seems to never feel comfortable doing it. Keeping it a secret was probably a mercy to Donald, but he also probably wants him to come to the same decision each time. By himself. So he can always have autonomy.
I've never before heard it put that way, that we aren't our bodies but rather the decisions we make, the people we love the the ones who love us. That's amazing.

I like to think Cecil probably have went through this scenario every time Donald found out he has been rebuilt, and he is just playing along now cause its the most effective way to get Donald to stay.
I love this idea for a character, I cannot express how much a adore the concept; a hero who has sacrificed himself over and over and over again, literally having given up his life countless times, yet he doesn't know it. He thinks he's just your average good guy with a gun, but in reality he has a proven track record of martyrdom defending the innocent from threats that all his friends and coworkers know about except for him.
