Japan doesn't have the resources available to compete on quantity.. Of anything really. Beef, steel, electronics, manufacturing. So they compete on quality. Likely they had made a selection of the absolute best quality ingredients to make an art piece for photographing, and later you'd get a meal for eating.
Similar to the food for advertising. You wouldn't actually want to eat that exact one, because it's airbrushed or whatever. It's just that in Japan it's all real.

Its a strange obsession we have as chefs, but nothing makes us happier than actually seeing our guests eat and love the food that we have been trained to make for many years.

Honestly, if they had not wanted him to eat it, they should have planned the press allowance better. If your sitting at a table, someone brings food, they watch you unravel a napkin and pick up utensils, they should have said something then. Your interpreter is at fault here.

@@Patmanduu Clearly you've never been to one. The point is not to eat 20 full plates of food but 1 full meal of 20 different things. That's how you can enjoy that many different things. Otherwise you'd be full by the second plate. It's not just smaller because its more expensive. If someone tried serving just that as a meal you'd be 100 percent correct.

I really want James May to do a full show for unpimp my ride. Where instead of short videos when he replaces a non stock visor. He takes a fully modded car or bike, and replaces all the mods with oem parts.

I hate the modern world with all that people having a whole rake sideways in their butts…. like… cmon. It was a 60g slice of some random salmon… like he couldn’t do that dish in about 3mins….
I saw the plate and thought it was a joke "this is pretty but where is the actual food" seeing the miserably small amount in that plate that's what i asked myself

@@kulkidz33 No it is not. Have you never eaten this type of food before? The taste is amazing and you eat 6-10 smaller meals so you will be plenty full in the end.
They are lucky he took just a small bite out of the smallest meal ever.

I think it was just a press day, I don't think they'd paid for tickets or anything. So I assume the food was just there for people to photograph, and film in front of.

I imagine it could have been a part of a brief that happened to his show staff without him actually being made aware. There are possibilities.
Looks pretty bad for whatever company is running the "luxury" train.
So "luxurious", they won't even bother to give each member of the media, their free advertisement, a sliver of salmon.
yeah it looks scripted (except he didn’t know about it). when they film him the train is moving but when they film backstage the train is not moving anymore
90% of the drama on Top Gear was scripted. I would expect no less from their solo programs.
If you look at the plate it looks exactly the same before and after he has a piece of salmon on a fork. This is fake.

My first thought (of the title) was that he brought some nuts and someone with allergy almost died... Then I thought oh maybe he ate some really strong chili type of thing. But he just tried to eat what he order...
