That Prop system with its full turning Radius is just amazing. Does the RUDDER also have a split Turning. Just wondering as I have seen Rudder design with that system.

Just another comment the place it is Docked at is Lake Union Washington State (am I right) being this is months old, is the vessel STILL in Seattle, to view say in person. Thank you for finding the super yacht. The more you review these vessels, the more I Love your channel.

My girlfriend and I checked this boat out months ago. Cool boat but lots of rust and the wood panel ceilings were put on after the fact covering all the benefits of the ability to get to wiring. I spoke to someone who is very familiar with this boat and they said it needs around 200k put in it. Plus the owner removed the stabilizer's which made no sense to me at all. That being said it was a really sturdy feeling boat and would be worth bringing back to original condition.

Love the windows in the salon on this. To me, any window that goes below the back of the furniture is a waste and a hazard. Best to keep the windows no lower than necessary. Looks like a tremendously sturdy ship - with gorgeous accommodations as well. If I had the money....but I *do* like redundancy, so still liking the Bering 77 - (as if I'm ever going to be able to afford either one, lol) Beautiful, beautiful yacht.

It's a pity that Cape Horn yachts didn't survive. They are truly industrial in nature for a yacht. They were the first to use azimuth drives in boats under 35m and boast an A:B ratio and weighted keel that makes them self-righting in the event of a roll-over. Okay, as a Canadian I am biased but hey, we've got three of the world's toughest oceans at our doorsteps. ;-)

It's really nice to hear a a boat review using the proper nautical terms.
I find some of these made-up terms really irritating.
I.E.There is no such thing on a vessel, be it a kayak or a cargo vessel, that has a "Cockpit"
It's either the helm in the saloon or the flying bridge.
The decks of the boat has a foredeck, a saloon deck, & an Afterdeck or Poop.
    Rant over. Cheers.

That is a sharp boat, I am a little old school and leery of the drive but I am sure they are reliable. I know they have used them for years on tugs not sure how much parasitic losses they have compared to a conventional drive.

    • @Prototheria
      @Prototheria 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I seem to recall that a rough guess for power loss in a hydraulic drive is around 20%. Add another 3% to 5% on top for the gearbox losses if the motor isn't down driving the prop directly. So, from that 340 HP engine, the prop is seeing roughly between 255 and 262 HP. Where the advantage over a conventional shaft drive is that 100% of the thrust the prop makes can be directed in any direction, which would help it break free from ice.

She’s been sitting a long while for sale. The Volvo and Thrustmaster combo make her an unappealing boat here in the US. And the engine room make it unpractical to install a conventional drive system. Any trawler not selling in a few weeks in this market means you will own her for life when the market cycle dips.

Not bad as a coastal cruiser / live aboard along the Alaska panhandle. She's only 59 feet. The price makes me uneasy. The drive system is great for harbour tugs but has complexity, that I'd be worried is unreliable compared to a straight drive. Not bad for a dream, all I can afford is a rubber dingy. For a real dream check out the Allseas 92

Hi John. Another great presentation mate. Just a cautionary comment if I may. Unlike the marinised versions of John Deere, Caterpillar, Fordson and Perkins agricultural diesel engines which are considered reliable, with normal regular maintenance, the Volvo diesel in marinised version tended to be a problem. As told to me by a deep sea sub Antarctic fisherman. And he was a stickler for preventative maintenance.( Possibly an unnecessary comment to add.) However, this was in the 80s so maybe the newer Volvo diesels have improved. Particularly in long distance trawler yachts conversions. Btw I do love this vessel. Thanks for the upload John. Take care and atb from down here in Nz.

what about crossing the north atlantic ocean and using a gps and a bunoclaurs to avoid icebergs and growlers its best to have a crew with you just in case anything goes wrong and if you are tierd you can ask one of your crew members to grab the helm and then you go to bed and wake up the next morning i am planing to do that with a normal trawler but now that i think about it i need a bigger one because a small vessel can sink if a rough wave hits the bow stern or side of your boat or ocean liner so i might get the tango too

I want a vessel like this but would rather take a decommisioned Commercial vessel and make it a home. You buy a used company boat and renew title as recreational.
With this model I would extend the forward deck and move the crane to the bow. Then the upper deck can be used for other things.
I dont care if the thing smells like fish, it just tells me its been in service, which means its Tough.

I don't think she would be so great in heavy seas . She has a nice high up bow, but the stern is low and at only 60,65 feet, she's pretty small. I would never be on that thing in a rough Bering sea. Engine room seemed a bit dated ,ok, it is 23 years old. She needs updated electronics. She was very much like a Nordhavn inside. Still, a nice little ship though.

@@qmmo Without entering in too much technical information (it is complicated), the WATERtight doors are located in the lower areas of the ship that are subject to flooding, and must withstand the same water pressure of the bulkhead that they are inserted (you do know that the Titanic did have watertight doors, yes?) . There are several types, and all of them have to be operated locally (both sides), remotely from a deck above and normally also from the bridge. Now, the WEATHERtight doors (as in the video), are made to stop splashes of water that could enter the compartment. They could not support any hydrostatic water pressures and are only one-way preventer.

I thought that watertight doors were a standard feature of Cape Horn Trawler. I'm nearly positive that anything I've read has specified watertight. Perhaps I am mistaken, or possibly missing something...I don't profess to be Popeye The Sailor Man hahaaha!

I think a lot of the comments have this right, I don't think with one engine and get-you-home option this is not for ocean crossing and genuinely remote destinations... however... as a long-distance costal cruiser, be it the Canadian north down one US seaboard, or in Europe to northern Norway or to the gulfs off the Baltic sea, it could be fantastic. She is an older boat though and I can't find much in terms of a large refit, so she might need a substantial refurb. But the basics look there.

apart from the fact that it is of very bad taste inside and that it is not a strong enough engine the line of the ship (trawler) and well proportioned high bow and round stern must be nice in a big swell!! but seen a comment below indeed the price is nonsense ... but for that robustness it's really perfect to be and live on the high seas

Not a chance in hell I’d take this boat anywhere near rough seas. One small engine topping out at 9 knots? I’m surprised it could make headway in a mild storm. The hull can take it, no question, just grossly underpowered.

With the long-term prospects of a world in turmoil, fuel prices may double, leading to a world depression, leading to unemployment, leading to very few buyers for such ships, leading to depressed market, leading to fire sales. This ship has not sold, will be expensive for fuel and maintenance, is 23 years old, engine has questionable reputation, and is likely over priced.

She looks great, there are 2 strikes against her though, one of which is an automatic out.
    1) Convection Microwave, a fan to even ambient heat out for an even cook in an oven that doesn't use ambient heat to cook, so a waste of money.
    2) touch screen navigation systems ( automatic out ) a system that does NOT respond accurately over half the time is not a system to be used.
