The Spinners - Mighty Love - Live 1976

- Here's the fantastic Spinners performing live Mighty Love, with Philippe Wynne going to church again, and some funny comedic moments!
The Spinners rate as one of the most fantastic groups along with The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Dramatics, The OJays, The Stylistics, The Whispers, The Intruders, Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, and The Delfonics. They were apart of the golden age of classic soul groups who mesmirized us with their dances, energy, and love songs.
It's Ashame, Rubberband Man, Mighty Love, Could It Be I'm Falling In Love, I'll Be Around, Mighty Love, One of a kind Love Affair, Ghetto Child, Sadie, How Could I Let You Get Away, Then Came You, Games People Play, Love Don't Love NoBody, were among their biggest hits, making them the premier group of the 70's. - เพลง
Phillipe Wynne is among the greatest vocalists of all time. The greatest of the best.
As a 69 year old white man, I grew up on Motown and Soul music……and still love it……I would like to see it make a come back, it was the best music…and the most fun😃😀
Nobody needs to know what color you are your sixty nine grow up
I'm also 69 and white and totally agree with you!
whites tend to think all black music was motown, the spinners label was philadelphia international
It’ll never come back because music today is just so bad.
Watching this and other Spinner's live videos gives me a feeling inside of love & appreciation for the magic they where capable of. I grew up in the 1970's and their songs are so inextricably intertwined with so many memories of that time that it makes me homesick for them. Ah, but unlike so many others (living now & those yet to come) I lived during that time and experienced these things when they were happening. We had no idea that the 1970's and the feelings & emotions that swept through us then would ever end, but they did. We need a mighty love to bring all that back now. If there is a God at... please make yourself know now!
Same with me. Growing up in the 70’s was fun, and there was so much great music, singers and bands. We had it all. R&B just don’t exist anymore.
My ex-wife whom I shared 3 children with went on out second date backin 1977 at the Shady Groce Music Fair just oustside of Washington, DC. where Philipe and the Spinners and the Tempts did an awesome show. We stayed friends so our kids grew up quite adapted. She passed away two years from cancer and I miss her so much. She lookd so hot that night...I will never forget you Leslie Irene Wanzer.....we brough 3 awesome souls into this physical world. You were a good mother and a good friend.

Phillipe Wynne, one of the best improv singers of all time. Love this song, thanks for posting. RIP Phillipe.
Agreed 💯
I'm mesmerized by him. Just something abt him❤
Phillippe Wynne was phenomenal. Yet he should have remained a Spinner......

EXACTLY 😮
My favorite all time Spinners song! I look at Philippe with his thick glasses, and I think of Ruffin too, realizing that our current era would likely never allow them to become superstars. Back them the music industry gave us artists with pure talent and showmanship; now appearances seem to trump everything. Sad commentary....
R&B can turn to church in 2.5 seconds!
Mel Nicole J yes he can!
This is true
Yes Gawd
He caught the holy ghost.
Both gospel and r&b have blues roots. Actually ALL modern, American music has Blues roots.
Real Music.....R.I.P....Phillipee Wynne.....you were the best.!!
I don't think there will ever be music like this again
especially with this generation ! I can't get with what they call music today
I couldn't agree with you MORE...I grew up to the Spinners,Temps,Stylistics,Drifters,Platters,EWF,Whispers the List goes on and on...Kids Today have No Idea what real Soul/Music Really is..God Help us All..
mattdaddyful I was born n 1972 so I was a little girl but my mom and dad made sure the kept this kind of music and would tell stories about this time ! I luv this music as if I was there n this time !
You’re so right Cindy! Everything was great about this music. Great lead and harmony vocals, meaningful lyrics, great backing instrumentation and band accompaniment. My Dad introduced me to all of this R &B, Soul and 70’s Jazz which is still what I listen to mostly today. Nothing like it. Take care.
By far. One of the classiest most talented groups of all time..Phillipe and Bobby the two greatest front men in R and B history...love this group
These shows and days were so much fun. This song Mighty Love put me on the map so to speak for the live B3 organ solo. Mighty thanks to my music father, Maurice King, R.I.P. my bandmates; Rodney Vorhis, Bass (R.I.P.), Tony Williams, Guitar (R.I.P.), Ted Smith, Drums and The Mighty Spinners. A special thanks to Phillipe Wynne, R.I.P. who encouraged me to start jamming with him on MIGHTY LOVE. Thanks for the great years and memories!
Rodney Stepp - Thank you for your contributions! I grew up in Detroit and The spinners were very everything to the city. They provided the soundtrack to growing up.
You were a part of music history ….thank you……
Rodney, I hear that funky & beautiful organ on those songs, especially Mighty Love when you all did the Grammys. Thank you for all of the timeless music & your great talent!
@rodneystepp6596, who was those 3 beautiful women in the back ground. im thinking the Emotions
Rodney Stepp, I thank Philippe also for encouraging you to get on out there & jam!
Philippe Wynn needed a cordless mike to get it on properly Lol!!
krazeerrol for sure!
Yes, he is the best. When he get on that Mike it's all over. The excitement is there.
"Soul Walker" Wynne! Just fantastic.
November 3, 2023: The Spinners (and others) will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (finally!) Congratulations to the only surviving member: Henry Fambrough. (on our left)
i thank you
Looks like they are shouting in church. Philippe was feeling that thing. I love it.
Shar Jamison yes he was!
Never be another Phillip wynne
This just made me so hahahahappy
PHILIPPE WYNNE was the Truth...Crazy vocal range and gifted with the word play in his adlibs......especially at the end of Ghetto Child and Mighty Love.....Skipping around and having Fun on the Stage....pure Showmanship....
#detroitspinners
You are absolutely right.
Phillipe along with Bobby were the best front men of The Spinners in my opinion,
always two good mens really could sang
@@pathunter3715 Yes, you forgot when Phillips left John Edwards replaced him and they got bigger never missing a beat.
They had a monster hit with Dionne Warwick.
Phillipe all the way!
@@Kemet3.0 Also G.C. Cameron was great too.
Let's not forget the only current living member, Henry Fambrough.

The LEGENDARY Mr Phillip Walker aka Phillipe Wynne
😮NEVER GET'S OLD!❤
Awesome!! Philippe Wynne was such an amazing talent and improv vocalist...
The spinners were underrated
In 1973, I saw Phillippe Wynne and the Spinners at the Carter Baron in Washington, DC. I was on a date but I never forgot that show, it sticks in my memory. Thanks guys.
I was 2 years old in 1976 but I remember hearing the spinners on the radio in the car and at home bc my dad was a huge fan of the spinners. These songs remind me of him and make me smile 😊
These songs truly are masterpieces and there will never be an era of music like this again! Thank god we have all these beautiful songs on TH-cam so we can travel back in time when we want or need to! ❤️
I remember this stuff!!! They called It MUSIC,,,,bunch a cats singing their GUTS OUT,,,with NO FEAR!!!!
What a voice! Phillipe Wynn is one of my favorite male vocalist. He went to church.
76 great year. Spinners, the best. Now, mumble rap is the thing!
Omg THAT LEAD SINGER IS UNSUNG... MR.WYNN WAS THE PREMIER LEAD SINGER OF HIS TIME...RIP....
I agree I saw him at least eight times with the Spinners and once after he left the group........he was the MAN back in the day !!!
YES LORD!!🙏♥️
@Vote Blue 2020 YUP, I REMEMBER EVERYTHING THIS GREAT ARTIST DID.
OFF THE RECORD.....I SAW HIM BACK IN DC JULY OF '77.HE WAS THE OPENING ACT FOR THE TEMPS .I WENT TO SEE HIM NOT THE TEMPS...DENNIS EDWARDS HAD LEFT OR WAS ASKED TO LEAVE AND HIS REPLACEMENT WASN'T THAT GOOD.REGARDLESS......IT WAS PHILLIPE WYNNE I WANTED TO SEE..... WHEN HE DIED SEVEN YEARS LATTER 1984.....I WAS "SHOT OUT" FOR A FEW MONTHS.......HE HAD THE STAGE POWER OF JAMES BROWN AND THE SMOOTH VOICE OF SAM COOKE.
OFF MY " SOAP BOX " :)
No of any time 👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿
2020, Pandemic, the need for real music...here it is! The little girl at the end brought tears of joy!
They don't sound at all alike???? They complemented each other perfectly
Thank God for music...I am bawling like a baby watching the great Philippe Wynne and the smooth and powerful machine that was The Spinners, like a '75 Coupe de Ville. I can't tell if my tears are ecstatic tears of joy or tears of mourning for my youth and the world and people we knew back then, and the great music that we grew up with. If there's not a statue of Philippe somewhere in Detroit, there sure as hell ought to be. My God these guys were great!
Wow!!!, Phillipe took me back to a childhood memory of my grandmother from 3:30 - 3:40; Her holy dance in church!!!, Awww😢💖, I miss this music, The Spinner's, My family whose no longer here...But like the song, It's a Mighty Love, & that's what keep me going💖!!!
philippe soul wynne coolest cat on the planet in 1975.
I was 14years old I missed this show on channel 11 I'm glad TH-cam played it thanks the little lady dancing at the end of show was cool
The producer must've told the audience to remain seated during the performance because I would've been on my feet
mainman465 so would I and wouldn't have sat down until the song was over!
@@yvonnemajor6704 sure you right
No way I would have been able to remain seated.
What the hell wrong with that crowd no way you can be in your seat!
@@dbass9767 Brain dead! 😂
Until this video I hadn't known that Phillipe could 'turn it on' like that?!@#! Very, very talented vocalist and showman ... I would guess that he went solo for the same damn reason that Ben K. King left the Drifters, that Jackie Wilson left the Dominoes, that Eddie Kendricks left the Temptations, that Frankie Lymon left the Teenagers, Clyde McPhatter left the Drifters, et al: the lure of fame as a single act brought exits from those fabulous groups!
The band is killing the vamp!!
Hard to swallow that Fambrough is the only one of these guys still alive.
Philippe Wynne and Bobby Smith were two of America's most amazing vocalist. Wynne had such a unique and soulful style of delivery that was able to transform the R&B landscape that's why George Clinton had to have him on his mega hit "Knee Deep."
...and ribbit wuz the 'B' side? (sorry)
They sound similar, but Phillip was more dynamic, but I love the whole group.
When love wasn't weaponized. We've got to get back there somehow. If our love
Can survive.
And then, some years later, they wish they had stayed together....That is how love goes for real!
man Phillipe
was amazing, what feeling
how these guys aren't in the R&R Hall of Fame and shit rappers are is beyond us
LMFAO they don't make em like Phil Wynne!
He was one of a kind.
A mighty love makes you have happy feet.
phillip wynne is awesome
My goodness this gentleman Mr. Wynn had the full package. The man was a great singer, an exceptional entertainer. Listening to him sing is like going to church. Back in the day when a secular singer who was raised singing in the church they would always have that special something like Phillip Wynn was doing here. What a great group The Spinners were, and what a great legacy they have left this world for generations to enjoy. I’m so to be able to come here on YT to experience all this great music and groups from the 60’s-80’s. RIP Fellows.
You know the answer to that; it's the same thing that made David Ruffin go solo. He wanted the group to be called Philipe and the Spinners. Ego and money. It never fails.
now that's some mighty love there!
I could listen to a hour of phillipe straight going in 🔥
Philippe is Amazing!
Hey that's Big Black on drums.
I'm only 26 but i wish i lived this. keep on loving.
I wish I was that little girl that hoped up on stage with them at the end 😊
B D me too! Lol!
Wow...we got2 pass this the next generations...we have in a way but music like this should b shown on television and played on radio constantly jus as a reminder of our musical lineage
Oh my.. i can't even describe this..lol funny..delightful...cool.. pleasing..I mean good gosh
This was definitely an act. You young'uns don't know what you're taking about. I've seen this song sung on other programs and they did the same thing. I was 14 yrs old back in 1976 and loved the sound of soul music and ALL music genres. Thank you TH-cam for allowing us old fogies to reminisce.
Wynne regretted leaving the Spinners when his solo career did not take off. He's best remembered (solo wise) on Funkadelic's 'Knee Deep' He was improvising on that song too.
the lead singer on this song is just outstanding ! his voice makes me feel like I was right there in this time even though I was a little girl at this time
we didn't know what we had
He's the brother of Bootsy Collins,I was shock! Fallippe Winn.
He makes it look so easy...
@@jessicawright9434 Phelps "Catfish" Collins is the brother of Bootsie. Philippé Wynne and the Collins brothers formed a group in 1968 called "The Pacemakers"
@Vote Blue 2020 No, they were in a group together.
He was incredible
love the spinners
Phillipe!!!!!!!!! Turn it out and send me home HAPPY Man!
Now, THIS is music!
I love it. I can't get enough of this live performance, watching it over and over. I especially love it how they clown a little at the end.
Sing rap that's what Phillipe started... and he finished it. Beast!
RAP SUCKS!!!!
mattdaddyful you are a moron.
Paa Hawkins Thanks...PS..Pull your pants up PUNK
back in the day getting down, song meant something!!
Hearing the music of my youth brings a tear to my eye now..These songs remind me of great times..It's hard when you realize most of these all time greats of yesterday aren't here anymore. That's what is truly sad..My first 45 I ever bought was "Could it be I'm falling in love"..
MY FAVORITE R&B GROUP FROM THE 70'S. PHILLIPE IMPROVISING AT THE END ON THIS SONG ALWAYS BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN. IS THAT HIS BROTHER ON THE DRUMS? THE LOOK LIKE TWINS.
Spinners will always be one of my favourite groups - love them! - This song - it happened to me just like the lyrics said.....
What a vocal group they were and Philippe Wynne had a unique vocal sound.Loved them, love this.
@TheNewsoul2 Well said; I'm happy someone else noticed. Long live the Spinners' music!
Awesome, just awesome. Philippe was a genius.
I saw them live in 1976. Terrific show!!
This is truly one of the greatest songs of all time.
He was so awesome
Ahh ...
This is such a beautiful classic and I really truly miss Philipe and Bobby :) Philipe had such a performing voice and soul.:)
You can never FORGET the Spinners !!!
How these guys aren't in the R'N'R Hall Of Fame is beyond me!
what a Magical Time in Music History...such Precious Gems of Music.
All this old footage is just absolutely priceless!
This was amazing on all levels 😂 bring back the 70's please
When music was good music!!
So cool... and not lip sunk!!
Wish they were groups like this today
Lord have mercy I enjoyed every minute of this video. Watching Philippe Wynn singing and shouting and wondering if he’s up in heaven singing and shouting also to this same song which seems to have been his favorite song as well as mine too. R.I.P. 💙
Soundstage! I first saw Journey on that show. That was some good music and the closest thing to a rock concert this poor girl would ever get to see. One act every week for a whole hour, unlike Austin City Limits, not necessarily blues & country. I was on cloud nine watching that show. Something to look forward to on PBS every week! They wouldn't show it in Oklahoma except for one or two seasons, yet Lawrence Welk got airplay for 20 years after he had died! Made me nuts.
2020, and I'm still listening! Powerful song.
Early in this clip, a very rare shot of the Sweethearts of Sigma, one of the greatest set of background singers ever. RIP, Barbara Ingram!
THXOPS I was wondering if those ladies were the sweethearts of Sigma.
+THXOPS : Unfortunately, those ladies were NOT the Sigma Sweeties (that is definitely NOT Barbara, Carla OR Evette.) as the Sweeties did not perform live with the Spinners.
TSOP LEGENDS
The video credits list the background vocals provided by New Horizons.
Never saw this 1 before. Talk about having some fun 🙂😉🙂
Wow. This made my day! (And it's just 7am!) I always loved Wynne's voice. What a performer.
Philippe Wynne was so great. He's still singing and dancing in the next life.
the mighty spinners
MIGHTY LOVE 💗. VERY BEAUTIFUL! THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO!! ♥️♥️
that's funny everytime you see it. because they always do it different. hahahaha.
You know how hard it is to dance and be continually moving and sing like that!!! Amazing!
All these years later, still fantastic!! Great memory to share!
Still 2 of the original Spinners with the group and performing after 50+ years.Yeah, the sound is a little different,as Phillippe Wynn's sound just cant be duplicated, but these guys are amazing. The greatest R&B group ever as far as I'm concerned..
If you didnt have this LP back in the day--the party was over!!!! They look good in those suits.
This was wonderful to see and hear. AMAZING stage antics. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT
EXCELLENT A1.TOPNOTCH. 👊🏾💯
