David Ruffin's daughter, Cheryl Ruffin, said in an interview that when David and The Temptations recorded "My Girl" in 1964, she was actually in the studio sitting on a stool watching. She was 4 years old, and her mother, David's wife, Sandra, dressed her in a white and yellow dress, and had her hair in pigtails. She said as David recorded the song, he sang it to her. He even ad- libbed "I Even Got The Month Of May With My Girl" at the end of the song, as her birthday is in May. Although David Ruffin didn't write the song, to him, Cherry Ruffin was "My Girl".

My uncle drove me through the back streets of Pittsburgh, and played David Ruffin for two hours (there might have been some substances involved). What a great night! Introduced me to this incredible voice
I love the feeling and soul he put in this variation. This was a legendary last performance. He truly was a legend RIP David Ruffin.
Wow what a treat for the audience to hear the Ruff sing and tell them a story at the same time. His speaking voice is as good as his singing one. What a singer What a showman What a legend
