    I watch this video every 12,000 + miles when I have to change my rear tire on my 2007 Softtail Deluxe so that I do it right. It keeps me from second guessing myself. A big thank you.

    This is the best instruction video of ANY KIND that I have seen. The fact that you are aware of "Wasted words, wasted time" prompts you to speed through those non essential bits which means that every second is used for ACTUAL instruction.
    You have an excellent practical understanding of "mechanical" logic and order of operations which again translates to time saved and very "Real World" tips and tricks for the "Average Joe".

    Thank you for putting together a video where you explain things clearly and also show everything with close up video. I’m trying to do more maintenance and repairs on my bike because the only harley dealer within 50 of me closed last year. Because of your videos i just replaced front and rear tires and brakes in my garage. I know a lot of people are laughing thinking that’s so easy but, hey I did it myself and I couldn’t have without your videos.

      No problem. Glad my videos are helping you out. I'd recommend picking up the factory service manual for your year & model bike. You should be able to order it from HD's web site. It is a treasure trove of info on how to maintain your bike yourself. There also may be an indy shop in your area to handle bigger jobs. Good luck.

    I’ve got a 2002 FatBoy. I’ve done many different maintenance items on the bike, but never thought I could tackle the tires. After watching your video, I feel I have the confidence in doing this.     I build flatheads-twin cams pretty familiar with everything you covered but somehow came across this video. Recently working on an 08 crossbones as my daily driver. I continued to watch. I must say: no BS, coherent, informative, couldn’t have been shown any better!? WELL DONE wish these videos where around when I started sketchily wrenching 🤣 yes unfortunately it was over 10 years ago 🤣

      I was told you dont have to mess with the adjusters as it is possible to drop the wheel straight down. This is my first harley my other bike have had chains or drive shafts.

    Bro... You saved my ass! I had all of my axle parts (both axles) apart, and laid out getting degreased. I went inside for 30 seconds, and I come out to my kid shuffling them all around

I had a similar issue once where I came back from lunch to find my cat batting around some small parts I had laid out on the bench matching how it was on the vehicle. Thankfully I had taken pictures while taking it apart.

    Thank you for such great instructions. You explained everything so well. I have an 06 Softail Deuce FXSTD. I'm about to change out my front tire. I only rode my bike on week ends. It only has about 11K miles on it. I wanted some advance knowledge on how to remove the back tire for later. My back tire still looks great. My front tire is just at the little wear symbols. Thanks again!

    Great vid. Just curious why you didn't make sure the belt tension was within spec, and also the adjusters to make sure it was equal on both sides?

      With the technique I show in the video you don't touch the adjusters or belt tension. So if the tire was properly aligned and tension set correctly before you started it will still be aligned and tensioned correctly when you are done.

      @@serviceproper, how I take the belt off the sprocket starts around 8:25 and later on I show how to re-insatll, all without touching the adjusters. Thats the technique I mentioned.

    Great video. Thank you for the details. Totally agree with taking wheels off yourself and and getting the shop to change the tire out. But I loosened and tried to pry my exhaust away. it was too tight still. and I felt like I might do some damage. Then i figured out that if you take the brake calipre off before you jack it up the bolts come out easy when you just sit on the bike and use the susupension travel to get the bolts passed your exhaust. same when reinstalling. Just might help some of you avoid the exhaust removal or damage from prying.

      Re getting the caliper off, how easy it is entirely depends on your exhaust and where it sits relative to the calipers. With my exhaust, sitting on the bike puts the bolts in a worse position. For some exhaust pipes, removing the pipes entirely is the only way to get access to the caliper bolts or even be able to remove the rear axle. And for those with shorty pipes they don't have to touch the exhaust at all. Either way, I'm glad you figured out a method that works for you. Thanks for sharing. It is thinking outside the box for sure.

    Did the brake pads no problems,gonna install new fork oil this week.Looks pretty simple per manual.Also on my list is a new clutch pack and cable,and all fluids change.The cheap harbor freight lift more then paid for itself,just in back pain alone on my tired 68 year old body.Hope to see more bike vids, yours are the best i see on here, Thanks

      Unless the clutch is slipping, I would leave the clutch pack alone. They can last a lot longer then people think. I've got over 85k on the stock clutch pack on my bike. But definitely change all the fluids and adjust the clutch & clutch cable etc. I would also squirt some cable lube down the clutch cable & throttle/idler cables too to give you a smoother/easier clutch & throttle movement. Glad to hear my videos are helping you out. I have a good number of vids already recorded, I just need to get the time to edit them. My spare time is seriously limited.

      Clutch not slipping,but the bike has been sitting for a while ,Its a 04 with 4800 mi when i bought it.Last clutch i did was a dry clutch in my 68 XLCH. Now since i am recently widowed, guess i just am trying to keep myself busy.I also had zero free time back 45 years ago,would find myself in the garage all hours of the night.Thanks

      You bought an '04 bike recently and it only had 4800 miles on it? Wow, that bike is barely broken in. :-) But honestly, I wouldn't touch the clutch pack unless it is slipping. They don't wear out with age. They wear out with use. It goes with the old adage of "if it aint broke don't fix it". Sorry to hear about your loss. Going for long rides is a good way to spend your time. :-) My dad had a similar "need to keep busy" idea when he retired a number of years go. He bought a 1931 Model-A Ford built the same month and year he was born and proceeded to tear it down to bare frame and rebuilt/restored it to factory condition. Now he rides around town in it all the time and in parades etc. He says he busier now then he was when he was working. :-)

      Unless your belt is already out of adjustment, you shouldn't need to touch the belt if you follow the steps in the video. The steps I show don't mess with the adjuster screws, so the belt tension is unchanged through the entire job.

    Thanks great instructional videos , i picked up a lift like yours and adjusted the clutch and primary tension on my 04 fxsti.Next i will be doing front and rear pads.Dealer did front and rear tires,cause i didnt have a lift ,was 550.00 hell i am spending the kids inheritance lol.. with new tubes and balancing.keep making excellent videos.i also ordered a service manual,by HD. for it.

      Good question. I would assume they would do the same thing any other motorcycle rider would do in that situation: carry a 'fix-a-flat' kit with them and try to fix it on the side of the road.       Should be able to plug it like any other tubless Tyre unless you have a spoke wheel with a inner tube . Then it's tow truck city.This video was very good because I found that little rubber on the floor when I took my rear Tyre off and wondered where it came from?🤔😳😂😎🇺🇸

    Great step by step, I have a Deuce, have changed rear tire 4 times, but I change the tire myself, use a C clamp to break the bead and lots of baby powder putting back on, it can be a hassle but rather suffer a little bit rather than pay the local Harley shop a dime.......... Thanks.

My local independent motorcycle shop charges $20 to remove/install a tire on a rim that is off the bike, including balancing. $10 if you buy the tire through them. I'll spend the cash to support a local indie shop.

      +Pet Rock's Garage I'm retired, had I been working probably have taken the bike in for the change, bought a couple heavy duty tire tools from Harbor Freight that makes it much easier, of course that last bite to get the tire on is sometimes a little tough. My rear is on a mag and since these tires don't last that long I don't bother balancing it, if it was a spoke I might. I also spend couple hours cleaning the aluminum mag and polishing it....hard to do with tire mounted and on bike. My first time I dropped the spacers and wasn't sure how they went back in since one end had a tiny groove around it, finally found the answer online, didn't want to have something bad happen. Seen many youtube videos that there wasn't much actual instruction, sometimes no talking at all, not helpful. Yours was well executed and to the point. Thanks.

      What i meant was I take the wheel to the shop, the bike stays at home, and they will change the tire for $10-$20.     This is great information. Thank you for making this video. I recently got a Fatboy Lo with the 200 rear tire, and I see a lot of people complaining about the life of the stock Dunlop (5,000-6,000 miles). You mentioned you have changed your tire 6 or 7 times. Is that since the bike was new? If it is, that's quite a bit better life... Granted my Fatboy Lo is about 50 pounds porkier than your Night Train. Is the Metzeler 880 your rear tire of choice due to better life, or better traction, or some other factor (if you don't mind me asking)? Thanks for any input.

      Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. Yes, its since the bike was new. I bought it with 6 miles on it. It's over 90k now and still going strong. The ME880 was discontinued a few years ago. So I've switched to ME888 front & rear and love them too. I like the ME880s and ME888s for a good combination of cornering traction & longevity. They fit my riding style pretty well. I often scrape pegs or the heal of my boot in corners in the mountains near me and do a fair bit of highway riding too.
      With that said, tire pressure is key to the life of any tire. Especially if you are a big guy or ride two up a lot. Most manufacturers have recommended tire pressures for different bikes. Whichever brand you choose, make sure to get the correct tire pressure for your bike & riding solo vs two up. In my experience if a rear tire wears out too fast it's because the tire pressure was too low for too long. Hope that helps.

Re parts: wherever is cheapest & fastest. :-) If I need to get the bike back on the road ASAP, I'll call around to the local independent shops and local harley dealer. Otherwise, I search around online and pick the one with the best price (including shipping) & availability. Often that is jpcycles.com, dragspecialties.com & amazon.com. Some parts, like hoses, clamps and things like that can be picked up at local autoparts stores. It all depends on the situation and the part though.

    No "chicken strips" on your tire! lol Your videos are excellent, right to the point, you mention lots of tips and shortcuts that might not be obvious to someone doing this for the first time and you don't repeat yourself and talk at a good speed, not too fast and not too slow. You should go work for a certain "pay per view" harley how to site, that site they talk so slowly and repeat so often I wish there was a 1.5x speed button. Again, great job on these and thanks for taking your time, you are really helping people and we appreciate it. You might consider adding a paypal button as folks might like to buy you a coffee or send a few nickels your way because you are giving them valuable info and helping them.

    Sir, superb. I was also under the impression that you then have to realign the rear wheel with belt adjustment screws. I guess not. Those notched bushings take care of that. Just apply some pressure to the wheel and then slide them on. Very nice. I also like you demonstrated the anti-seize on your work and the use brake grease.

      Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. No I haven't tried changing the tire myself. Its not worth it, IMO. Too much of a safety risk, and my local indy shop only charges $15 to $20 to change a tire. Money well spent, IMO.

      @@jimkoch1040, HD wheels aren't special. You don't have to take the wheels to a HD Indy shop. You can take them to a sport bike shop too. Basically any shop that can do motorcycle wheels. Call ahead, of course. Good luck.
