Since you have normal to dry skin, I recommend using a moisturizer afterward.
      Like this:
      AM:
      Cleanser
Alpha Arbutin (on the are you want to treat)
      Azelaic Acid
Moisturizer (on the areas you feel the need)
      SPF
      PM:
      Cleanser
      Glycolic Acid 7%
Alpha Arbutin(on the are you want to treat)
Moisturizer(on the areas you feel the need)
Make sure to choose a moisturizer that's suitable for your skin.

Hii thank you so much for your videos, these ones are so helpful and so easy to understand 😍 do you know if this Routine would be great for me? (I have an oily skin, a bit of acne and hyperpigmentation) :
AM : Alpha Arbutin + Niacinamide + Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% + SPF
PM : Glycolic Acid 7% (toning solution) + Alpha Arbutin + Niacinamide
Or maybe is it too much ?
    Thanks 🤗

      Hello Clara,
I recommend doing it like this to avoid skin irritation:
      AM:
      Cleanser
      Azelaic Acid
      SPF
      PM:
      Cleanser
      Alpha Arbutin
      Niacinamide
      (Optional Hydrating oil or Moisturizer)
      PM2: (2-3times a week)
      Cleanser
      Glycolic Acid
      Alpha Arbutin
      Niacinamide
      (Optional Hydrating oil or Moisturizer)
Technically, you can use Glycolic Acid daily; however, it's way too much for most people, and they end up with breakouts all over the face.
I have a very old review, which you can see right here (with pictures)
The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution Review + Before and After:
      th-cam.com/video/wj2auWEAWYw/w-d-xo.html
Over time I figured out that it was because of overusing the acids and not necessarily because of the combination I did back then. So make sure that you aren't overusing the products. :)

If you are new to the Ordinary products and/or skincare in general...I recommend not using Glycolic Acid and Azelaic Acid in the same routine because you don't know how your skin is going to react.
You can use Alpha Arbutin, Azelaic Acid and SPF daily in the AM. However, I recommend using Glycolic Acid 2-3 times per week in the evening for a while and see how your skin is going to respond to it before maybe using it more often to avoid skin irritation.
You can use it like this:
      AM Routine:
      - Cleanse
      - Alpha Arbutin
      - (Optional) Moisturizer
      - Azelaic Acid
      - SPF
      PM Routine:
      - Cleanse
      - Glycolic Acid (2-3 times per week)
      - Alpha Arbutin
      - (Optional) Moisturizer
      Advanced PM Routine:
      - Cleanse
      - Glycolic Acid (How often you use it depends on your skin)
      - Alpha Arbutin
      - (Optional) Moisturizer
      - Azelaic Acid
      Hope this helps :)

Sorry but this is very confusing and I can't quite follow your comments because you are always talking about different products...
What do you have at home?
If you have an oily skin type (like getting really oily) there is no need to use a moisturiser. I think that you would be better off just using Hyaluronic Acid as your moisturiser.

  • @masminaziz
    @masminaziz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hiii Melissa, I have a question! Could you please help?
My skin type : Normal to Oily.
I am very much concerned about the acnes and blemishes, the stubborn marks aren’t fading. Been using glycolic acid tonic from Pixie Glow 3nights a week for almost 2months, my blemishes are fading but it’s still is very visible.
Thinking to add these in my night skin routine, do you think it will help?
    Night routine:
    Neutrogena Micellar Water (Hyaluronic acid)
Pixie Glow Glycolic acid (3nights a week)
    Alpha Arbutin from Ordinary
And finally layering with Cerave’s moisturising cream (3 ceramides).
And the nights I’ll not use Glycolic acid, do you think I should use alternative toner?
Will any of these products conflict with each other? And also I use Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer (SPF 50+) after using my Cerave moisturiser, is that okay?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey! :)
Yes, you can try the routine that you have mentioned above! You can use the Pixi Glycolic Acid Toner more often if your skin can tolerate it since you already use it for such a long time!
How often you can use your exfoliating acid/toner depends on your skin concerns and tolerance. Some can use it daily whereas others prefer to use it less often and that's fine! :)
Depending on your skin and what works and feels the best for you, you could also try a lighter moisturiser like a gel or lotion since you are not really struggling with dry skin! :) Otherwise, stick to the moisturiser that you have! :)

Hi Melissa! Do you know if it's okay to use Ordinary -Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA in the morning and then at night use niacinamide ( Valjean) serum and Pixie glow tonic toner( the glow tonic has Glycolic Acid (5%) in it). Are these skincare ingredients okay to mix?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

Yes, you can use Alpha Arbutin in the AM followed by SPF.
As for your PM routine, yes, you can use Pixi Glow Tonic toner and use Niacinamide after that. That's fine too! However, please do not use the Pixi Toner and The Ordinary Toning Solution in the same routine since both include a high % of Glycolic Acid :)

Yes, it is sticky. But what else are you using before or after? You may apply too many products. ( Or too much product)

Hello, I recently bought the bha peeling solution, the azelaic acid suspension, and the alpha arbutin from the ordinary. I have been struggling with dark spots after acne, so I was wondering if I chose the right products. Also, how would you recommend using these products?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey😊
May I ask, do you still have acne or do you only have those spots left? Also what is you skin type?
Also, what else do you use? Cleanser, moisturiser SPF?
From what you've mentioned, you've picked the right ones!
You can use them like this:
      AM Routine (Daily):
      - Cleanse
      - Alpha Arbutin
      - Azelaic Acid
      - (Optional) Moisturiser
      - SPF
      PM Routine (1-2 per week):
      - Cleanse
      - Peeling Solution
      - (Alpha Arbutin)
      - Moisturiser
With those products, you have mainly a daily AM routine which is great and simple! And once or twice per week you also have a PM routine with the mask. I recommend using a moisturiser after the mask when using it for the first time to see how it goes and then later on (After 1-2 weeks) and you're skin likes the products and has adjusted to the products you can use Alpha Arbutin also after the peeling solution as well.
The general rule of thumb for order of application is:
      1. Water-based serums
      2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations
      3. Creams & suspensions
      Important:
If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first).
It’s recommended using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration.
About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck.
Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!!
Also, gradually incorporating one new product into your regimen at a time and applying test patches first to see what works best for your skin.
With any new formulation, some sensitivity or initial redness can be normal. Initial redness upon application is not a cause for concern if it goes away after a few moments.

The rest of the products you've mentioned above are great for your skin concerns!
Also, have you already tried not using a moisturiser at all? Since most oily skin types do not necessarily need a moisturiser😊 only if you have some dryness going on or a drier skin type!

It has a high amount of active ingredients. And that's what they recommend. I mean, you can add 1-2 drops more if you like or if your hand soaks all up, just apply it immediately to your face :)
"Patch testing - We recommend avoiding unprotected solar exposure, gradually incorporating one new product into your regimen at a time and applying test patches first to see what works best for your skin. For more information on how to do a test patch, please visit our Patch Test Guide on The Ordinary website.
Order of Application - We suggest using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration.
Generally, we recommend applying water-based solutions first, followed by oil formulations, and finally cream/suspension formulas. If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first).
About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck.
Acne - Just as a note - none of our products can be considered medical treatments for acne, so we suggest consulting with your physician to see what may work best for your skin. :-)
Pregnancy - While each ingredient has been tested and is considered safe for topical application, DECIEM products have not been tested on pregnant or breastfeeding people. When pregnant or breastfeeding, it is recommended to avoid any skincare products containing retinoids such as formulations with Granactive Retinoid or Retinol."

I'm not too sure because I don't know what causes the darkness around the mouth (as I don't suffer from that condition). If it's hyperpigmentation, Alpha Arbutin may work. If it's due to a buildup of dead skin cells or dry skin, Glycolic Acid and/or keeping the area hydrated may work. However, if it's hormonal or another condition, it's best to see a dermatologist to determine the cause and the most appropriate treatment.

About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck.
Use a "patting" application method, as opposed to "rubbing."
Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!!
Some products can have a foaming effect upon application depending on the other products you are using in your regimen. The foaming should not last longer than a few seconds and both should not remain sticky once absorbed into the skin. (Video: th-cam.com/video/r04W7rQV1R0/w-d-xo.html)
"Pilling" (snakeskin, shedding) can occur due to too much product. Your skin can only absorb a certain amount of product, and any excess will be left on top of the skin so that when the next product is being applied, it rubs off. (Video: th-cam.com/video/l_C7HtO826A/w-d-xo.html)

It may be too much using Glycolic Acid 7% daily. But In case you have no issues, you can do it. However, I recommend observing your skin and adjust it based on its needs. Test to see what works best for your skin.

Just use a low strength Benzoyl Peroxide and spot treat it there is no need for anything else.

If I want to use vitamin c, how do I add that in? After or before the arbutin?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว

It depends on if it's a water-based serum. In case it's a cream, it goes on after. In case it's an anhydrous solution/oil, it also goes on after. But if you have a water-based serum, it does not matter 😉

Melissa Van Dijk ok so I plan to use these three products together. Should I only use at night time?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Hawaiianorchid You can use them together at night time (use them only once per day). However, sometimes using Vitamin C and Alpha Arbutin together can cause an irritation, it doesn't always happen - I guess it's about how much luck you have😅
Do a patch-test where you use both and see if anything happens before applying it to your face!
