  • The 2017 Ford Fusion Sport VS the Ford Taurus SHO! Can the Fusion Sport take on it’s big brother Taurus SHO in a 0-60 and 0-100 mph race ? (0-100 km/h - 0-160 km/h)
    Both cars have AWD and twin turbos, the Fusion Sport has a 2.7L TT Ecoboost V6 putting out 325HP and 380lb torque. The Ford Taurus SHO has a 3.5L TT Ecoboost V6 putting out 365HP and 350lb torque.
    The Fusion has a curb weight of 3982 lbs vs 4343 lbs for the Taurus SHO.
    Which one will win the battle between the two ?

      The SHO is crazy heavy (~4400lbs) but the Sport isn't much lighter (`4000lbs) despite being a midsize. The advantage the Sport has in weight, it loses in power.

Think of it the same way as a truck. Some people prefer the sound of a V8 (I do too), and others want the turbos (the reason why I went with the 3.5l). With the truck, you have both options, as well as a smaller turbo motor and an N/A 6 cylinder.

      @@Soulintent95 sounds like a fun ride. But power is only one part of the equation. I can't say I've driven in a fusion Sport. But I can imagine it's a beautiful drive and Ford does have a pretty good reputation with suspension tuning. But there's a reason that the St is owned by more automotive journalists and press members than almost any other car in recent history. I've had 78 cars in my life and the only thing I can think of that comes close would be a Euro spec BMW M3 that I had. Or a 93 Porsche 968 with the mo30 (I think it was called?) suspension. The ST punches so far above its weight in handling it's almost stupid. More power would have been nice but it's entirely usable and it's got a lot of bottom end grunt so you don't really long for it. It's such a shame that Ford stop producing cars in North America other than the Mustang. When they focus on doing something right with their tuning division, nobody in North America can compete in my opinion.

    I have the 17 Fusion Sport de-badged. Everyone wonders what it is when I blow then away unexpectedly. What's really nice is the room and luxury amenities for a family sedan. A real sleeper for those who feel the need for speed occasionally while keeping their hands warm on the heated steering wheel on the 10F winter mornings! lol Several times very smooth and stable up to the 132mph limiter. Might go a little faster because of the momentum but will not go higher without custom tune.

    Please excuse the saltiness but eff the Fusion! I have a 2013 Limited and while it's not as "sport" as the SHO,it's a really great car. Luxury I might add. I'm salty because it's an underrated sleeper and Ford just markets the Fusion all the time. The Taurus made the competition take notice and step their game up,but you don't market it? I mean come on. Sigh. 😒

    • @ChadHaynie
      @ChadHaynie 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like the look of the SHO. The front fascia/grille of the SE, SEL, and Limited are "blah" in my opinion, but the front of the SHO matches more closely to the Fusion and the rest of the Ford car lineup. The Taurus doesn't need to be as sporty as the Fusion is. They are two different cars and really two different markets. I would like to see them add a Platinum trim level as they did with the Fusion this year. I don't think it needs to be completely redesigned though and because of the government/law enforcement usage, I doubt we'll see a major redesign until closer to 2020. This is all coming from a Fusion Titanium owner by the way!

    Ultimate hp will win above 70 mph. But, people need to understand too, that Fords rated hp and tq numbers are on 93 octane in good cool air. Plus, overboost is a short 10-12 seconds of when that max tq and hp are achieved, so it's to brief. The last Fusion sport I saw, mildly loaded, weighed in at 4008 lbs. and a base SHO was 4114 lbs. the Fusion sports regular tq is 345-350 out of overboost. And it's regular hp is 315 out of overboost. On 91 fuel, the power drops by 10-12 hp and tq.

    A $400 flash with no mods brings the SHO to 420hp and 430tq with a 4.6 (0-60) and a 12.9 1/4 on 93 octane. The 3.5 is a way better motor than the 2.7. You can easily get 500hp from the 3.5 by adding downpipes, exhaust, intake and a few more goodies and the thing will run perfect as a daily driver. I agree, but they don't underrate it by so much. Yes, instead of 250hp they might have 270hp, hell, 280hp - there are tons of dynos out there showing this. We're still talking about of difference of 50hp and 100lb-ft in Fusion's favor. Where does all the extra power go to?

    • @mucisibale
      @mucisibale 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      2017 340xi weighs 3800 lbs. The Fusion AWD weighs 3470 lbs. So Fusion is 330 lbs lighter and has +50 lb-ft on the Bimmer. Still the Bimmer does the deed in ~4.4s, the Fusion in ~5.5s. It's a big deficit.
      Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing the Ford. I just don't understand why is so inefficient.

    • @mucisibale
      @mucisibale 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, didn't notice the weight number from the video. In that case you can compare with 535xi with 300 hp / 300 lb-ft weighing 4,150 and still faster or as fast as the Fusion. The dial-back "conspiracy" sounds like an explanation, tho I don't know of any other modern car that has a similar thing. I think the problem might be a combination of the ancient 6-speed and a lot of ponies being be lost before they make it to the wheels.

    the problem I have with this is that the numbers don't add up. I have seen some quarter mile times of 13.7x for a fusion sport. And also how does and edge sport almost match a fusion. I'm gonna flat out say there was something wrong with that particular fusion. I realize it's not a world beater, but come on.

      Well it is very strange to have a 15.4 0-100 time in an vehicle of this class. That's really slow. But if you look at 1:10 there is something unusual with the revs being held with little forward motion. Not sure what's going on there. But it's definitely affecting that time.

      jakhammers world people are testing them too soon without enough miles on them. If they haven't tickled 1000 yet the ford computer won't give you full access to the power.

      The fusion had less then 150 miles on it....not anywhere close to broken in. The SHO had nearly 40k miles, so nicely broken in.

      Considering the heavier MKZ with a bit more power can manage a 13.2 @ 106 factory stock. I'd say the odo mileage is the primary factor here.
      Test it again with a couple thousand on it.

    So one test is at 80°+ and the other is 68°. Not the best control for the test. Conditions should be close to equal. Car temp, outside temp, elevation etc...

    I couldn't really tell the difference from their clusters apart from the speedometer numbers Ford seriously it's not that hard to come up with a new cluster design..

    Terrible, both. The new accord 4 cylinder turbo in magazines does 5.5 sec to 60
