I was a teenager in the 90s, I didn’t grow up with this music or singers but I really listening and watching to these…wow, singers and songs were actually artistic and talented. It went downhill after the late 90s IMO.
I was just a little kid when the Mamas and the Papas were topping the charts. I was extremely familiar with their music, but I had no idea that Cass Elliot was such a natural comedian. What a talent.
I miss the musical comedy TV shows from that era that featured popular songs, often medleys of popular songs, in very creative and entertaining arrangements like this. And I'm always struck by Cass Elliot's warm, luminous, humorous stage presence. What a natural.
I didn't see this at the time, but, wow, it was just superb! Two very talented people, each with a wonderful voice, having such fun together, sounding glorious, singing a not-so-easy duet!
Totally! The complexity of this is staggering. And there is a third song at that they squeeze in near the end "You've got your troubles". There may be a fourth that I'm missing.
Mama was an old soul to be sure. She was so talented and could perform with anybody so it seems. She was very funny too. How they harmonized two different songs and kept them in balance was amazing.
WOW!! WHAT A DAMN GOOD DUO!! NEVER SAW THIS ONE BEFORE AND I WAS BORN IN 1960. SHAME ON ME!! I THOT I'D HEARD ALL OF MAMAS SONGS. 🤩🤪🥰😁😉🥳💋❣️💥🌟💫💯💯💯💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥
She has one of those smiles that makes you think she's in some other place, laughing and enjoying, and this show is just a part time gig for her whilst on earth....I get the same from the comic Norm Macdonald.
This clip appears to be from a reincarnation of "The Andy Williams Show," which ran Saturday nights on NBC from 1969 to 1971. Unlike Williams's previous program in the sixties, this version had a more contemporary feel.
@@kevinfitzmaurice4072 - After Andy's first NBC series ended in 1967 but before he returned to weekly television in 1969 with the more contemporary series you noted, he did a series of four innovative specials that also reflected his shift to contemporary pop. This number with Cass is from the 1968 "H. Andrew Williams Kaleidoscope Company" special. It seems Andy enjoyed Cass so much that she went on to guest several times on his 1969-71 series, performing with Andy on some amazing production numbers featuring The Temptations, Ray Charles, and Elton John.
Think about all the work that went into performing on these shows. All the original arrangements, and rehearsals.....It's amazing really. This particular arrangement is unbelievable in its complexity from the middle where they start combining the two tunes. Not only does it work flawlessly, but it's flawlessly performed. Just absolute craft all-around.
Well, to be fair, as their primary songwriter and vocal arranger, John Phillips had a little bit to do with the Mamas and Papas’ success too. And Denny Doherty was the tenor and lead singer on most of their hits. And Michelle Phillips was John’s muse and a decent vocalist in her own right. And their complete vocal blend was extraordinary. But, yeah, Cass was a key ingredient to the Mamas and Papas’ success as well.
It’s funny when other overweight white women see another overweight white women in a time when they thought there were none, that makes the white women above immediately respect Cass Elliot without ever being an actual fan. Cause if she was she wouldn’t overestimate Cass Elliot’s worth as a musician by saying the “world lost out on her”. In reality she’s only saying that because the commentor above is overweight and white and she wants people today to say things like that about her. So she’s hoping if she says that about Cass Elliot maybe one day people will say that about her. Which btw lady will never happen unless you idk do something productive with ur life instead of idolizing others that have a talent
The Bee Gees song! I remember AW show and used to watch as a child from time to time!!! Mama Cass - that voice and her own personal style, she dressed for a plus size women, but some of clothes were kind of awesome!!!!
Don't think any shows asked Michelle Williams or the others to come on and sing alone lol. THIS WOMAN COULD SING!! The others were her back up singers.
ah yes michelle williams of destiny's child, the famous backup singer of cass elliot, even being born 6 years after cass' death didn't stop them from sharing the stage!
My favourite collaboration. I wish they released this in a studio produced record afterwards. Born in the 80s, it's ahead of its time remix from the late 60s.
Her voice is like a gift from God!
I love Andy's voice, but Cass blew him off the stage here. She had some comedic talent, too. ❤

Same as yourself
When I was a teenager in the 70’s I was obsessed with Andy Williams’ voice, now I remember why…And her voice wow

She was so amazing such a beautiful and powerful voice 😍
She's singing my favorite Mama Cass song, WORDS OF LOVE - the bell-like clarity of her magnificent voice! Miss her!!
I didn't see this at the time, but, wow, it was just superb! Two very talented people, each with a wonderful voice, having such fun together, sounding glorious, singing a not-so-easy duet!
Brilliant performance! I miss the TV shows of that era...💚🎸
Impressive to sing two different songs and not be distracted. They ace this endearingly.
Totally! The complexity of this is staggering. And there is a third song at that they squeeze in near the end "You've got your troubles". There may be a fourth that I'm missing.
I got cold chills when he started the song. Then a 2nd wave when she began. 😊
Best singers in the World.
This was fantastic.
Two great singers at the top of their game!!!
Mama was an old soul to be sure. She was so talented and could perform with anybody so it seems. She was very funny too. How they harmonized two different songs and kept them in balance was amazing.
Very beautiful dress especially for this time period❤ She should have wore more dresses like this. Bright colors with sparkle!
Love Andy and all his little pranks. Dreamy blue eyes. oh and great voice.

Incredible. Two world class artists. The second Cass starts to sing I go into another world.
This was great.
Me too
Thanks for putting it into these words. I feel the same way!
Fabulous! What a voice Cass had! Andy wasn’t too bad either. Absolute treat. ❤

So we'll. Done. Cass had an exceptional voice.
Im here for Cass...❤❤❤
But good job Andy...
Was für schicke Kleider sie immer an hatte. So schön bunt.
wow! just wow! Cass was something spectacular!
That is amazing, their voices are wonderful together.

Never thought I could like anything by Andy Williams. I were wrong.
What a lovable soul she was.
Such an incredible power-full voice, and Andy so smooth. Love 'em both. 🎉
He was sooo handsome LOL ❤️❤️
Listen to that voice of Mama Cass, so sad she passed so young.
And so effortless....
Wow! How did I miss this special growing up? This is magnificent! Cass is one of my favorite female vocalists 🎵

@@ben2715Thank you.
He had such a beautiful face. Those eyes.
what a hard song to sing -- they pulled it off perfectly!
If you didn't know what a talent she was the fact that so many other greats wanted to sing with her would tell you.
Wow!!! Brilliant. You just can't get singers like that any more. Loved it.
Top of the game entertainers. Classic.
Two unique voices and natural-born performers.
Wow!! Great duet love em both shame both are gone 😢, Rip Cass and Andy❤ .....
The words of both songs are a perfect duet.
Love both of these gems. The level of talent and charisma is out of the park. Always had a crush on Andy Williams and wished I could sing like Cass.

Exactly what I wanted to say! This is a live performance, and it came off perfectly. Thanks for acknowledging the arranger/s of the medley, too.
I like her outfit.
Did you notice that her outfit also matches the background??? 😄
Não conhecia! Maravilhosos!
I’m Gen X and these are two of my favorite artists ever. My parents listened to them when I was growing up. Love it!
I’m honestly glad for you. 👍
Me too.
That was really a great duet from two great singers. WOW
Hopelessly smitten with this amazing creature. So many TV appearances but this my favorite.
Mama Cass is who made the Mamas and Papas. Without her the group would have been nothing.
YEP
Well, one of the guys wrote all their hits.

I agree cass was it all what a voice and phrasing just beautiful
Fantásticos!
Grandes e insubstituíveis artistas!
Quando nascerão outros assim???!!!
Wow! Just wow! Two powerhouse vocalists together. I was excited when I saw the photo for this video. Both Cass and Andy were one of a kind. ❤
Oh, this is so adorable. ❤
She’s so cute. I love her. Missed her.
Wow, Cass has SUCH a voice, and such a confident and funny stage presence.
So sad that she was lost to the world at such a young age.
Što je bila izgubljena?

Most upsetting was the media made a joke out of her after her tragic death...
Miss true talent 😊 RIP ❤
Good chemistry between them.
The Bee Gees song!
I remember AW show and used to watch as a child from time to time!!! Mama Cass - that voice and her own personal style, she dressed for a plus size women, but some of clothes were kind of awesome!!!!
totally agree - who combines orange and green on gowns anymore?
Her voice is so amazing!!
My love of music came from MAMA!
Just brilliant; thank you Elias.
Love cass voice of course, but Andy sure has a soft , deep , and rich voice too 1:11
Their voices compliment each other perfectly.
Wonderful!
Preciosa voz de mama cass
Andy was awesome
With just three networks, this was the kind of superlative entertainment we enjoyed every week. sigh...
Clever "mash up" !
Cass was right...Love is most definitely an action word ❤
This is nice 👍
I never knew they appeared together
I forgot how amazing she was!
This is so great. Thank you for posting. Funny and adorable.
Cass was unique. She definitely had the volume.
Oh my god Elvis covered this first song in 1969, that's awesome!
The lady sings!!!

Incredible.
Such clever counter melodies and harmonies ☺️🎶
This is fricking amazing!!!
Kakav glas ima Cass Eliot!Napravila bi veliku karijeru da je ostala među nama...šteta...Bog uzima najbolje.
Awesome. We don't have this intense talent anymore but at least we have You Tube..
Yes we do, just in a different style. There is no golden era, one just had to be open.
@@kingy002 Not as it once was & the material was better as well
@@edwardanthony7283 Thanks, but I will stick with my original statement.
