  • A bit more brief than previous "50 Fact" videos. Since I was in Bulgaria within the past year, it made sense to do an overview of the country.

    Just a quick note about Plovdiv:
    "Plovdiv is one of the oldest cities in Europe.
    Archaeologists have discovered pottery and other objects of everyday life from as early as the Neolithic Age, showing that in the end of the 7th millennium B.C there already was an established settlement there. According to Ammianus Marcellinus, Plovdiv's post-Bronze Age history places it as a Thracian fortified settlement named Eumolpias. In 342 BC, Plovdiv was conquered by Philip II of Macedon, the father of Alexander the Great, who renamed it "Φιλιππόπολις", Philippopolis or "the city of Philip" in his own honour. Later, it was reconquered by the Thracians who called it Pulpudeva (from Philipopolis)."

    Hi there, great video I'm Bulgarian and this is the first time I've seen this musical instrument. I'd say the gaida (a pipe made of sheep or goat skin) is a lot more popular and very traditional Bulgarian musical instrument

    Again Cyril and Methodius DID NOT invent the Cyrillic alphabet they invented the Glagolitic alphabet, their disciples envented the Cyrillic later and named it in honor of their teacher

      Actually, it is a legend that the decuples of Cyril and Methodius named the Bulgarian Alphabet to the name of Cyril. The more realistic theory is that East Rome renamed the alphabet to this evil name after 1018, when they conquered Bulgaria with the help of the traitorous-sold-off-for-roman-gold Kiev Rus. Note that Cyril and Methodius were paid servants of the East Rome Emperor, workers of hire for the EVIL EMPIRE AT THE TIME. With this deceitful and evil act they deny Bulgaria a major achievement.

    Intersting fact - there wasn't any fascism in Bulgaria ever. So it is strange how the anti-fascists are "fallen" in Burgas. Too much booze maybe? What do you think?

    • @nick_geo
      @nick_geo  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I imagine is has something to do with other anti-fascists that fought the Nazis. It doesn’t necessarily have to take place on the soil to honor it.

    • @static-m-s

      My point is, all tis "monuments" are built under the russian communists pressure with purely propaganda intentions. The implication is - we, (russian) cominists liberated Bulgaria from the fasists. And this propaganda is real. Half of the population don't know its own history, but know very good the history manufactured in Moscow. Actually, such type of propaganda is developed by the fascists itself.

      @@nick_geo He was referring to the fact that the Russians usually promote it as "Russian alphabet" and we are really divided because of Russian "liberation" during the Russo-Turk wars, but again Soviets occupied it. Bulgarian and Russian are close when it comes to written form but the grammar is different because we are the only Slavic language that dropped cases. I think Russians understand us much. Regarding the islands, there are really cool ones in the Danube where you can kayak. Overall, a very good video. You are most welcome to visit. You forgot to mention our old medival capital of Veliko Tarnovo during the 2nd BG empire. It is not so big anymore, but very nice.

    "Yoghurt" itself is a Turkish word and means "condensed". If you ask Bulgarians they'll claim Adam and Eve were Bulgarian

      no one in BG calls it Yogurt... What do you think, does also the bacteria Lactobacillus bulgaricus is Turkish? :) hahahahah This bacteria that plays a crucial role in the production of the Bulgarian milk was identified in 1905 by the Bulgarian doctor Stamen Grigorov. Calm down, we have no claims about Adam and Eve, keep them to yourself, we don't need them!

      We dont use the word yogurt in Bulgaria, we call it sour milk, so yes the word yogurt comes from other language and its used in western countires
