Hello Mr.Bald, this video hits real close to home as I'm from Bulgaria, but I'm currently studying in the Netherlands. I wanted to say that I admire your fascination with slavic countries. Bulgaria and its people have been through hundreds of years of hardship, mainly under ottoman rule and soviet communism, but still we have upheld our values and traditions. The villages that you visited in this video are just a couple of the thousands that are currently in disrepair due to the population either aging and passing away or the youth moving to bigger cities like Sofia. He didn't go to the best places in the country - but then again, as the title of the video shows - he was only particularly interested in the ex-Soviet aspects.

It shows your country in a very poor light imo, so I don't know why you are so thrilled. I've been to Bulgaria 3 times and know far more interesting and beautiful places and aspects of Bulgaria than shown here. But for some reason B&B is obsessed with the terrible Soviet era.

I absolutely love your channel. I've never seen such informative and interesting travel documentaries on mainstream channels. You have an innate ability to connect and communicate with the common folk (I'm not using common as a derisory term) and you take the viewer to the places where no travel show will dare venture. You're also extremely humble and compassionate towards the needy persons you encounter. You make people's lives just that much better by buying them a packet of cigarettes or a few bottles of beer. Often, they have nothing else to look forward to in their bleak lives. The recipients of your kindness always look as though their Christmas times have come at once. Fascinating, often heart wrenching your videos are compelling, gritty and real.
@@torstimyle1355 it’s the country with the worst demographic crisis in the world. Majority of the young people have moved to the capital - Sofia. In the province the population is aging. Also, train transportation is pretty slow and inefficient so it’s the least preferred way to get around. Still there are ghost villages nowadays where there is not a single inhabitant and only 30-40 years ago there used to be hundreds.

The young people from those rural areas are migrating to Sofia or abroad. In Sofia they have the chance for education and career. Many also migrated to Western Europe, therefore those parts of Bulgaria are very less populated - mainly old folks , Romas , Brits and Germans.
Brits and Germans escaping their country to be there and Bulgarians escaping their country to be in Germany and England haha... It's the exact same in Portugal, well it was but now feels like Portugal is getting overwhelmed by foreigners and actually too much investment and people, who knows maybe Bulgaria will be the same.

My advice as an expat - if you have family you love, don't emigrate. If you're alone, it's easier. I'm from England but live in South Africa, I'd go back to England and have the last bit of family I have left - but I have a South African wife. If we went to England she would miss out on her family. By staying I miss out. Either way one of us loses. (But we're good otherwise)

This guy is one of the best TH-camrs with his content, showing people how to connect instead of making distance between each other, without any intention to show off. Love love love! ❤❤❤
You should check out his lore, i bet you wont "love, love, love" him anymore after lmaooooooooooo
Thank you Ben. Hoping to see more like these. even when you might feel the content is empty, the vibe is there and it is still super interesting. Much Love, a French.
This is the type of videos I miss you doing. That’s the only reason why I subscribed so thankyou for bringing them back ❤

It shows your country in a very poor light imo, so I don't know why you are so thrilled. I've been to Bulgaria 3 times and know far more interesting and beautiful places and aspects of Bulgaria than shown here. But for some reason B&B is obsessed with the terrible Soviet era.
@@sunnyjim1355 History isn't always pretty, and there was much beauty about the vintage Comnunist-era murals and architecture.

Please Bald, please never stop this format.
I was waiting for Bulgaria's turn! Thanks for coming here!
I spent a very pleasant couple of weeks in Bulgaria ten years ago and was also pleasantly surprised
Just don't turn your back around Bulgarians 😅

Why are these railway stations empty? Where are the people or the population is too small to see crowded places.
It's relaxing hearing you talk about mosaics, Soviet architecture, and speaking in Russian again.

Can you possibly translate a bit of what the gypsies were saying?
@@alextikson7557 Nothing that special to be honest , the one on the train station " common words for the store stuff " , the ones with the cart , typical village talk , like dont forget to come for lunch Jore :D , the ones in the car just talking about the stuff they pass by : ) Keep in mind that in bulgaria we have several gypsies , ones will speak bulgarian + turkish , other straitght gipsie language ( youll hear some cyrilic but very broken cyrilic spoken )

I've never seen any video of Bulgaria before, but the places he went to are pretty beautiful!
Just a few days ago, I left Bulgaria, having spent a pleasant and interesting week. I was in Sofia, and two nights in Plovdiv. People were friendly and helpful. A lot of people spoke some English.
On a side street in Sofia, I ate the tastiest kebabs of my life!
Also, I visited the Socialst Museum, which was out in the suburbs, past the metro stations.
I must return to Bulgaria. There is so much more to see.
I love that Bald shows basic things, common people, and the old Soviet buildings.
This was so thrilling. I admire that wherever you go you talk to the locals in their language.
Wow!!Bulgaria has so many beautiful architectures and rich sceneries. I Appreciate that you share some information about everywhere you visit. That's cool.
Fun fact, few years back your channel was recommended to us by a Bulgarian youtuber NymfyASMR. And now a few days back she shared this video with us😊, she has always brought me here.

It’s not that the government care about the history. It’s more like they completely don’t care but these places are so remote and so few people live there that there is no one to break it. Only the weather and time.
And they were build really well to begin with, so they preserve themselfs without the "help" of democratic elected governments. Let's hope we learn before it's too late.
They are not bulgars but bulgarians.

I've been waiting forever for this video! Well worth the wait though, as I am originally from Ruse. Currently a student in Scotland, your video makes me think twice if I really want to stay in the UK after graduation, or come back home and explore, something I've always wanted to do. Thanks for the video!
Your country needs its bright young people to help build it back up.
Finally a Bulgarian episode. There is still much to explore in Bulgaria. Stay awesome!
Amazing vlog, now excited for my Bulgarian trip next week. Thanks for this intricate history of Bulgaria 🇧🇬

If you havent felt unsafe, you are mental.
Say what you wish about Bulgaria, but it clearly is a safe country
Thank you for acknowledging this. During the mort important centuries, we were under slavery, non existent on the map, for 500 years. I think that matters and is part of the reason nobody cares about us
I wonder how many hours Ben films to get 48 minutes of pure gold, seamlessly presented.
I feel like it's less than we think. I think he has a pretty good idea of what he wants to capture so there's not much wasted footage. Could be wrong.
@@Rygelfan Either way it's high art. TV presenters can't do this.

Did Romania and Bulgaria by car last year. Awesome countries, but Bulgaria was just amazing. Did all of the majors monuments and smaller ones we find in the countryside. The bigger ones were really impressive. People were friendlier than in Romania and food is seemed better too. Stayed for 2 months in total. Tried the Sofia x Istanbul train.
