This is your first video since the passing of my little brother back on March 4th. He was 25 and self-taught fluent in Russian. We used to talk about your channel and how we wanted to go to Russia together and ride the train. I shared that at his funeral and said I’ll soon go to Russia in his honor. Thanks for inspiring me and giving me something to connect with him on.

The funny part is how he tells you all (and you probably believe him because you don’t know any better 😂 ) that Russia “subsidised” Bulgaria and once the “Soviet subsidies stopped”, Bulgaria fell apart.😂😂😂
I almost peed my pants laughing because Russia never subsidised anyone but itself, it sucked them dry, all the satellite countries, pillaging them to the last penny, exploiting them and calling that “importing”😂😂😂 it took everything they had at such “prices” that it totally impoverished them all beyond belief… that’s why they look today the way you see them look… 😂😂😂
I don’t know whoever told him that Russia gave anyone anything 😂😂😂 when in fact Russia took everything from everybody, from the Baltic States and Czech Republic and Poland and then to Hungary and Romania and Bulgaria and everybody else… just took and took and took for about 45 years, it just killed and pillaged the economies of these countries forever…all those countries need 100 good years to recover from the “Russian subsidies” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This version of the Bald Guy is good enough for a standup comedian … 😂

Hello Mr.Bald, this video hits real close to home as I'm from Bulgaria, but I'm currently studying in the Netherlands. I wanted to say that I admire your fascination with slavic countries. Bulgaria and its people have been through hundreds of years of hardship, mainly under ottoman rule and soviet communism, but still we have upheld our values and traditions. The villages that you visited in this video are just a couple of the thousands that are currently in disrepair due to the population either aging and passing away or the youth moving to bigger cities like Sofia. I am really grateful that you are showing part of the lives of the people that live there, my grandfather is in a similar situation and it brings me joy knowing others from all around the world are getting to see this. The country is truly beautiful, if you take away the fact that it is being ravaged by corruption and political greed.
Nevertheless, thanks for showing Bulgaria to the millions who watch your channel! All the best from Montana, Bulgaria. Благодаря!

Even bought some hand-made traditional Bulgarian folk instruments from an old guy who lived in the middle of nowhere (such do I love the traditional music, and being a musician myself). And some other trad things - beautiful pottery and woved items, etc, all of which I still have to this day. Wonderful place.

I absolutely love your channel. I've never seen such informative and interesting travel documentaries on mainstream channels. You have an innate ability to connect and communicate with the common folk (I'm not using common as a derisory term) and you take the viewer to the places where no travel show will dare venture. You're also extremely humble and compassionate towards the needy persons you encounter. You make people's lives just that much better by buying them a packet of cigarettes or a few bottles of beer. Often, they have nothing else to look forward to in their bleak lives. The recipients of your kindness always look as though their Christmas times have come at once. Fascinating, often heart wrenching your videos are compelling, gritty and real.

Did Romania and Bulgaria by car last year. Awesome countries, but Bulgaria was just amazing. Did all of the majors monuments and smaller ones we find in the countryside. The bigger ones were really impressive. People were friendlier than in Romania and food is seemed better too. Stayed for 2 months in total. Tried the Sofia x Istanbul train. Interesting to say the least. Old commie train and engaging characters 😅. However, Bulgaria is one of the oldest established states in Europe. Thinking is Russia is kind of insulting to them.

It's pretty safe on average if you aren't looking for trouble. Just watch your belongings. The chance of you getting robbed on the street for example are slim to none, but if you say forgot something somewhere, chances you'll get it back are 50/50. Might never see it again. Over time watching Bald's amazing videos, it's hard not to get confirmation that rural areas around the world are declining and emptying, and people moving to live what probably is marginal living in or on the outskirts of big cities. These videos are such a capture of our transitioning history in these dire economic times globally.
