Just can’t find original cars anymore like this 73. Such a clean original survivor, no more. I’m not necessarily a purist, but they could have found a different car for this build.

Have to agree with you on this. Same thing I was thinking. Even though this car wasn't particularly special it's condition was. As time goes on these types of cars become even more precious as-is.

This project is special to me. I've been building and autocrossing these 70-73 Camaro's for nearly 50 years now, starting right out of college (where I bought my 1st 71 in 1974). I have never heard of Street Rod Garage in Grant Alabama, although I live almost rock throwing distance from that town (Huntsville Alabama). I'll have to drive over there one day and check those guys out! Thank you for highlighting and promoting them.

As far as hacking up a true survivor, well... that was hideous. Sorry, but that was nonsense. GM made millions of these, and you could have gotten one that was already gutted for way less money, and ended up with the same car. Great build, but the hack job gets a thumbs down. Shame on thee.

I was loving this build right up to the point we were told there would be no power steering, with those wide front tires and no front cowling you will need the incredible Hulk to drive that car on a road course or circle track. Put that car on a circle track with the setup you have now will make it a wall magnet. Hope you'll rethink this option.

Every single one of these builds is the same. Nine inch rear end, LS, manual everything. It's stupid, and it's overdone. I feel like Pro Touring has reached a point in recent years where everybody is copying each other's work. Then they put a hundred grand into the bodywork just to make it look unique, as if that will make it drive, ride, or handle any differently.

  • @lloydeyler8608

Good job, guys! Way to build a $100k car one infomercial at a time! All while cutting up a near-perfect original early 2nd-gen Camaro!
How many are left in this condition and THAT original (before you started hacking it apart)??? The answer.......one less! Literally the ONLY original parts you mentioned were being saved were the seats!
It must be nice doing a build using the best of everything, including a shop and tools any DIY hot-rodder would die for! Even one of the more diminutive pieces of shop equipment (the Trajan 125 band saw) comes in at $850.
Great for advertising products, which obviously gets you free tools, equipment, and parts in exchange, but that's not how it works in the real world.
I'm about 1/2 way thru this long video and have seen enough. Nothing innovative or terribly unique, just an unlimited budget. It's no surprise shows like this are waning in popularity. On the other hand, channels that show what DIYers can PRACTICALLY and AFFORDABLY do, like VGG for example, are exploding!
I'm sure the car turns out awesome! How could it not??? If it isn't NEAR perfect, I would consider this build an EPIC fail given the money, parts, and top of the line tools used!
But good luck on your next corporate-sponsored, no practical budget build! I'm sure it will be great too! Go ahead and hack up an original muscle car in amazing condition while you are at it! But if you are going to put together another Camaro, make it something MORE rare next time, like destroying an original YENKO!

I wear a respirator when spraying and a face shield when using the wheel of death.
I worked at a tubing shop that made parts for everything from Corvettes to International semis and our maintenance dept had a face shield hanging on the wall with part of a disk stuck in it. The operator only needed a couple stitches in his eyebrow, but if he hadn't been wearing it. He would have lost his eye and shattered his orbital socket at the very least.

PowerNation guys, if you read the comments, please know that many of your viewers understand what you are doing with a car like this.
A lot of people are upset that y'all are cutting up and fully changing this original survivor.
It's important to understand that a split bumper camaro like this LT trim is only desirable for its appearance. Its numbers matching, all original, one owner characteristics give it no value, aside from the excellent condition it's in. Put simply, it is not a valuable car monetarily or for a collection. Its value is either for someone that has nostalgia associated with a car like this, or as a great base for a cool looking project car. And we all know what they say about how much your nostalgia is worth to the buyer. LOL!
So, even though a lot of people are up in arms about modding and cutting this survivor car, it isn't a valuable model, monetarily or historically. Therefore, an excellent condition car like this is a great choice as a base for a project car, if you want to keep this 50 year-old beauty driving!
I hope everyone understands I'm not attacking anyone's opinion. I'm trying to express the reality of the car's value to history and finance, which is kinda low.
To reinforce this idea, I'll use my wife's 1974 F100, short bed, stick shift, 4x4 that was all original when we bought it running, driving, and registered. Yes, trucks like that command a lot of price, but not for what they were. Even though it was a cool truck stock, its value wasn't in keeping it all original, numbers matching, etc. Its value was in the great base it offered for the frame-off subtle restomod we did to it, and for her nostalgia for the '76 F100 she drove in high school. Yes, now it's fuel injected, with every aspect of the engine aftermarket except the original FE block (it was in great shape), 4-wheel disc brakes, big wheels and tires, a posi rear-end, and a modern sound system with a ton of dynamat. But, it gives her all of her high school nostalgia vibes with original suspension geometry, original bench seat, original dash, original sheet metal (with fancy new paint), and original drivetrain (except that rear end). The truck wasn't valuable as a survivor. Instead, it feels like her high school truck, but looks cooler, has a ton more power, and is safer (with power windows!).
That's what these guys did. They made their original, relatively low value classic car, suit their purposes (racing), while looking like the cool car it is!

Honestly…..you shouldn’t have ‘ruined’ that nice Camaro. You could have just built from ground up. Anyway…great program.

I've got a 22 gladiator but diesel with a tazer, I love the honest dead pan answer and explanation, taco if you're not really serious and want to ride comfy, Jeep if you really know what you're signing up for. I'm just about to swap my regular Rubicon speeding out with the 2" Mopar factory. Wasn't available when I ordered but got it for 1800 ish, there a mod depending on which one you want, for my 22, Fox were the shocks, there's a couple newer factory lifts that have different brand shocks, the brand escapes me at the moment but I don't have a brand loyalty, I had to be careful because I have the diesel so some of the front end is a little different

It’s a shame that somebody couldn’t respect the heritage of a clean and well-maintained 1973 Camaro. There’s plenty of junkers that can be built instead of bastardizing a fine example of the Camaro heritage.

You guys know better than this... With the direction the automotive industry is going cars this rare need to be saved at all costs... there are so many CHEAPER cars out there that you could have used as your starting point, since your only reasoning for using this particular car was since "you guys aren't body guys" you needed something you didn't have to do body and paint work to which I understand but as a said get a cheaper starter car and use the 15-20k you saved to pay for body and paint work because obviously the chassis doesn't matter if its nothing but rust because you put a new one piece chassis under it.... I could keep going because this stuff fires me up... I'm going to go cry myself to sleep now.

To all the people crying about the car,get your own and save it like the pos it is in stock form. If it was a 70 ss or Z28 it might be different, hell I would have cut the rear wheel wells and put some big Mickey’s and put a old style hemi with a 8.71 blower sticking out of the hood just because of all these stupid people
