I've moved over to AR500 armor and noticed tons of movement or slip within my carriers (PIG, LBT, and Eagle.) I know the carriers were made for the width of ESAPI/SAPI plates. A friend of mine showed me a little DIY project that cured all of the above problems. Get a yoga mat or elliptical mat, and cut two stencils of the plate size, and glue them to the back and front of AR500 plates. Put some weight on them for 12 hours and you're done. By doing this it's thickens the plate up to remove slop within your carrier, also adds a little extra comfort. Great video.
@@valqueenofValhalla I got this for my wife and it's perfect for her, the swimmer is the best for women shd says lol, she has tried all, soft kevlar for concealing but the swimmers 3+ for shtf.
so am I the only one who thinks making an armor plate smaller more streamlined/ergonomic is a little bit of a bad idea? those plates even at full size only cover so much. with pieces trimmed off sure it covers the inportan bits but I'd rather it cover more than less.
+Salty Diarrhea yeah I sorta figured. of course you could have soldiers running around in full suits of balistic steel armor like some modern knight but their mobility would go down the shitter.
+Tombs Clawtooth I get what you are saying and I completely agree. but I found how you said it a bit funny, like saying I'm okay if my car doesn't have winter tires or a block heater in it but it's fine because I live near a mechanic. but yeah im sure it will do what it was designed to do and you won't get a bullet in your lungs or kidneys. though its probably better not to get shot in the first place.
+Jeff Mcfarlane If you are taking fire from the enemy your strategy sucks. If you are letting your armor tank numerous rounds your mobility sucks. The ability to move faster and more freely while maintaining a net weight savings is important. This is the impetus behind research and development of TALOS, Boston Dynamics BigDog, and Polaris DAGOR.
+Jeff Mcfarlane It's kind of like the trade offs you make for a smaller more concealable firearm that's harder to shoot but easier/lighter to carry and just like with firearms the best one is the one you're actually going to use/carry. Also body Armor is not really made for you to be free to take shots it's made to HOPEFULLY stop you from dying if you happen to get shoot.
Great work Eric and Chad!! I love these videos. I'm a 3 time customer with Spartan Armor Systems and I couldn't be happier with their products and service. I own the Armaply plates and its good to know they work as advertised, especially up close. The swimmers cut makes a world of difference when transferring my rifles from shoulder to shoulder.
Brother, there has been a lot less to make me reconsider my path in life than turning a corner and seeing a guy with a crazy rifle pointing at me. Thanks for the video!
I love how this video shows the difference between two bullets and how that will attribute to accuracy. Removing variables is all we are trying to do when were shooting longer ranges. Bullet type obviously plays such a big role! Loved it
awesome vid! i like that you guys don't edit your videos to only show hits, it lets in the realism of shooting "stock up" ammo and its capabilities. don't worry about the people commenting saying you can't shoot, they probably couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.
+Guillermo Lovato ?? that plate is only like a foot across that spider was like the size of a penny...do you live in new york or something where the spiders are stunted?
+Charles Baker are you crazy?, that table is a 2x4 with a 2" thick top at most, so that's at least 6" high, the monster spider was almost as big as that, so that makes it a ~2" spider that's NOT a penny.... which in my book means "erradicate with napalm, run for your life". this is no 'straya where a 15cm spider is the norm man....
Guillermo Lovato i mean still it's likely about 1 inch, maybe two. not super huge in my opinion. i get wolf spiders on my porch that big and bigger very often, even now in november.
Y'all have some big ass spiders down there! Much love to you Eric for how much you teach your fans. Barry is smiling down on you from that range up in heaven and he says you'll never believe how pretty the ARs are there
That was the ammo? Maybe a vid on doping your scope over?! Lol, like this! Just picked up Spartans III+ plate package, had a initially gone with the swimmers cut but changed my mind at the last minute opting for the shooters cut. Good stuff...though the III Plus is not N.I.J. official, however it does protect against those common rifle rounds...7.62x39, 5.56, 7.62 NATO even 30-06 at CQB range. Good stuff. Thanks for the vid!
Hey fellas, great channel, I really enjoy all the clips you guys are making, keep'm coming! I was wondering if you can film a clip with certain shooting tips and weapons handling for the Peshmerga who are fighting the IS? they can use some of your handy instructions and tips. Eric you're the man! Regards M
Really interesting the groupings between the ammo. I wonder if the first batch had a variation in the grains for that far of a swing. I really liked this video. Thanks!
Those plates may not yet be available, or they are having some issues with them. For grins I went to their web site to price one out and it's telling me that the product cannot be purchased.
Would be awesome to see you test the helmets I make at work lol. The testing room is kept pretty secretive so I can't help but want to know more about them. It's Armorsource helmets!
I wonder if adding a gel layer behind the plate in the carrier would help dissipate more of the energy before it transfers to your body. Add in like a 1" layer behind it if it'll help any internal body damage and even bruising.
The M1A is a bad ass rifle, but if you get the Scout model.... DAMN! Buy a M1A Scout add a supressor, remove the factory stock, replace it with Archangel's Precision Stock, and slap on a 3-9x32 Compact Scope... Such a beauty! Hell, with the Archangel Precision Stock, it has a rail under the barrel so you can add a grip or a bi-pod (I'd put a Magpul AFG2 on it, personally)!
I so want the SOCOM 16 in the worst way!!! I'm actually considering selling my AXIS II in .308 to help fund it...ugh...I just don't know because the thing's so damned accurate... and that trigger. Decisions decisions.
The M1A is a very nice battle rifle, but for hunting, I'd stick with the Axis (I have one without the accutrigger, and you're so lucky to have one. LOL). For match shooting and all out war, go with the M1A. The SOCOM is nice, but the recoil is gonna be a little bit more, and just with two more inches with the Scout, you can get better accuracy at range. I'd say go Scout, not SOCOM; oh and also the M1A are heavy as hell! Personally, when I think SOCOM, I think tactical, lightweight, nimble, accurate. Just my views and opinions.
All Games I would like to kindly say, at the last part of your comment that you're wrong. Accuracy is NOT effected by barrel length, RANGE and velocity are though. Velocity is key. That's why something like a SOCOM 16 should be sought after, a battle rifle for the backyard and could reach out and hit something with FIXED sights to a realistic 200 yards.
You're correct. Range and velocity, not range and accuracy. And yes, all the M1A rifles can easily reach to 200 yards with open sights. That's one reason why I love .308. As for Scout vs. SOCOM, it's a personal choice. 18 in barrel or 16 in barrel? Other than that, they're the same.
I have a socom II and I can reach out to 800+ yards with iron sights. your only limited to whay you can hit by your skill level. a scope is nice but why rely on one.
The actuall size of the boady armour is francly tiny, it not going to cover much of a big bloke would have worn it. Or do they come in different shapes and sizes?
Good evening Eric. Could you tell us what kind of a jacket you're wearing? It looks mighty comfortable for Autumn times. In general my humble opinion is that the clothing gear is a large part of a person's and soldier's well-being. There should be more information about what you think would be the optimal choice. Perhaps a video on that topic, when you have the time? What would you choice of a warm, preferably waterproof durable clothing for the Autumn, and then Winter seasons be? Brand names and technologies aren't as important to me as comfort and durability! Thank you for your time sir!
Also what twist is the barrel on that AR? I understand M193 being an erratic grouping load at distance but typically M855 is quite accurate in my 16-18" ARs. Odd that they were going all around like that.
Get some better ammo, dude. The camera work was excellent. Do you have a new camera and high quality lens? Clear as a bell and great color rendition. (I'm a retired fotog and videographer.) Very professional - and as is usually the case - very informative and fun to watch. I was waiting for you to bust out the 50cal, though!
+Dusty Rusty It was the suppressor causing issues not the ammo. Yeah they could try to find a better load for it to work better with the can but that takes a lot of time and money to do.
OK need your opinion on something here Eric, I got a 1938 built 91/30 Mosin Nagant, do you think it has seen service and possibly shot a few people. She's a rough looking old rifle.
Who is the barrel maker on that AR? I bet that AR is made with high quality parts and put together well so it is interesting that the M855 or M193, whichever gave poor accuracy, was so terrible. If that plate is 12 inches tall, that is something like 5 MOA groups you were getting, assuming a 20 inch group at 400 yards. Then a 4 inch group at 400 yards with hand loads, maybe that barrel was chambered specifically for the 60gr Nosler (Partition?).
+Hobbies Things ballistic clay, but basicly its -> Energy=recoil at the shoulder , in flight it looses energy , than at hits and the (less) energy get dispersed from 5.56mmx5.56mm=30.91mm² with the plate at ?cm² area of your body. Some people say "because the round hits so fast" it makes damage but it ofcourse need to overcome the plates inertia. I personaly dont think its to much. There was a aMurican solider hit by 7.62x54r or .30-06 (cant remember it anymore which one) at the plate , he was fine. And to the clay tests, you could also put the rifle's stock against it and it (theoreticly) would be similar deep. Standart Military Lvl IV plates hold up to .30-06ap (7.62x63 with tungstencarbidcore). Often even .338LapuaMagnum but than with backface deformation, that would broke a rib, but hey this round have ~6600 J . I would use lvl III+ or lvl IV. Good lvl III+ can stop even 7.62x54r ap, just M855A1 about of a long barrel (20-22") goes trough, and that ammo is rare for civilians. (ofcouse 5.56x45ap M955 also should go trough lvl III+)
Eric, if you don't mind me asking, did something happen between you and Moss Pawn and Gun? Recently you've been saying "...Eric with IraqVeteran8888" instead of "...Eric with Moss Pawn and Gun." Maybe I'm just over analyzing things though...
Whats the point of running inaccurate 55 grain round when you can fire an accurate 60 grain? Was it something to do with how the rifle was configured that made that particular round less accurate? Just strikes me as a bit pointless to be firing lighter, less accurate rounds.

Tactical scorpion makes 1/4" airsoft pads that are PERFECT for filling out a carrier sleeve... $15 in Amazon for 2

From experience , supressor a do a good job at making you really find out what ammo works good with your rifle and supressor combo.
Matching ammo to the shooter and gun is important, he is just a horrible marksmen. A mismatch of ammo doesn't make you miss by FEET at 400 meters.

does this plate have the standard coating or the "build up" coating
And non 90degree straight shots? I cant imagine the splatter was contained by the coating.

Would like to see a video on what can stop a suppressed subsonic round ... Cell phone, thick wallet, car door ect...
So make one. I've shot suppressed .22's through car doors. Penetration is no problem. A bit of leather or a phone won't stand a chance.
Eric turn the pine sideways and stack it 6 inches deep, i'd bet you'd see a serious difference in your result.
