Great video guys. If a .308 won't go through, I know a .22lr won't either. However, to quote a good friend of mine "A .22lr will kill the crap out of you".
Scott Boss There are dead people who would disagree. Yeah, a .22 won't do the same massive damage over a large area as a high caliber round will do, but a .22 will penetrate significantly into a body that it will reach vital organs. It's all about shot placement. One good hit with a .22 is better than 7 misses with a .44. Not that anybody would recommend a .22 for self defense over a .44, but I'm just saying that it's not complete crap.
As an ex-Corrections officer for the Commonwealth of VA, I wish they'd used this. I was always a little worried when doing a transfer or a hospital run with level III-A soft armor. I know that gang members favor the 7.62x39, usually in an AK or SKS platform. I was also a steel-worker and I know how abrasion resistant AR-500 and AR-550 are. Pretty incredible steel, and not terribly heavy.
Great vid guys! One thing that wasn't mentioned as far as civilian use is just general protection when recreational shooting. Say you go out to shoot in the woods with some friends and a new shooter comes with. If they accidentally discharge a round and someone gets hit, body armor could be the mitigating factor between living (though a little sore and bruised) and trying to rush a friend to the ER from the middle of nowhere and them bleeding out on the way. Just thought I'd give it a mention... Oh, and one of these days I'm going to have to make the drive out to Moss (West Georgia, here). I've enjoyed all the videos and info, and Eric, Barry (RIP) and Chad just seem like a good bunch of guys.
This video is very well done. I like how you placed the plates in a carrier and attached it to the ballistic body. Much more realistic than some other tests I've seen. Thank you.
Great video. Your video production is some of the best of all the prepping channels. Enjoy your knowledge and time you put in. Thanks for serving as well.
OUTSTANDING. I too am used to ceramic plates and was skeptical about these plates esp. w/ spalling. I think I might be sold. Good review. Keep up the great work.
An awesome video, I use ceramic still, but this video will make me change my front plate, not both yet. Thank you both for this great info. R.I.P. Barry
Aleksandar Ćurguz not strange anymore. I’ve seen level 3 armor stop 5.56AP consecutively and then seen it rip through consecutively. Things that are manufactured are pumped out at a crazy rate I think each individual product is different molecularly. Not even with firearms and it’s accessories and stuff. Hell I’ve seen armored Sheetrock stop 7.62x39-7.62x51-7.62x63-.45acp- 5.54- and a bunch of other shit and then when he put 5.56 through it ripped through.
Great video thank you guys for putting in the work I have to say that took a lot more than I thought it would. The AP 30-06 I was impressed with. Stay safe all!
Something that's not really mentioned in this review is that armor can be a great thing to have if you're just out plinking with firearms. If an accident does happen, or if there's a failure with your firearm, you have a little added protection beyond some safety glasses.
I bought the AR500 plates and could not be happier! They are heavier then my ceramic ones but you wouldn't notice by wearing them since the weight difference is very small, plus the AR500 plates and thinner which is nice. I need to show this to the doubters I know. Also if anyone has ever seem or shot a .50 they will know that it doesn't matter what body armor you are wearing you will die from the impacted alone; no need for penetration (I am talking about a normal .50 not the pistol round).
Superb video. I like the fact that you tested the armor in a carrier. It was much more realistic that placing one plate in a card board box. Keep up the excellent work.
I can't imagine why anybody would give a thumbs down to this vid. I liked it immensely. I've been trying to make up my mind getting some body armor for home defense. This definitely gives me a great deal off favorable info. Thanks!!
Awesome video guys! These plates are the same ones my company carries, and I have to say as a LEO and former veteran myself, these are the best choice, considering the price.
Let me make something clear guys. I've never sat through more than 1 minute of any of his videos. Don't get me wrong...I'm sure he's an okay guy, but I just don't have time. I spend 70 hours a week producing this youtube content. I wish I could say I have time to watch youtube videos, but I spend time creating content, not watching it. Sadly, it's the nature of the beast.
So basically what I'm trying to say is that if there is some verbiage or other irrelevant stuff that you've seen some other TH-camr do, I can't comment on it, because there's a strong chance I haven't seen it.
Hey MrAllanHolman, aren’t you a member of the North American Man/Boy Love Association? You are pretty much suggesting that if a person uses a word then no one else is ever allowed to use it either. Since that is the case, you should feel free to stop speaking or writing, as every word you use has been used previously by others. This is a good idea for you to consider. Acting on It will leave you with more time on your hands to play with wang.
I bought my armor today at their facility. They really treated me well and fit my armor to me! Glad I live within 20 miles of their facility. I'm likely to purchase another as it doesn't get better than this and I'm looking for a custom home armor. My purchase was for rifle threats with mag pouches and holster. Not mentioned here Front and back plates came with my gear for a really fair price!
Thehossusmc has a video of testing an armor plate in the desert. They shot it twice in the same spot with a .338 Lapua and it stopped both shots and it was home made from 1/4 inch AR500 steel.
Really cool video!!! Although the the plate stops the bullet from penetrating and killing you, the likely broken ribs and possible sternum that come from sheer impact still might. But at least it's nice to know you have a pretty solid chance! Can't wait to see what you guys do with the ballistics gelatin in later vids!
When your done shooting the molle vest I will gladly take it off your hands. That is if nobody else does. Thanks for the videos over the years by far my favorite gun TH-cam channel. Thanks guys, miss berry though. You guys ever thought about making a outtake video. The funny out takes. Thanks again I'll shut up now.
Thank you for this exciting demonstrative video guys. I've never seen anything like this before. I'm not a native speaker but all of your vids are crystal clear so again thanks for your work.
I got the ASC level III plates with the PAXCON Line-X build up from AR500 for my Banshee, the same vest as used in this test. On top of that, I bought spall guards from D-RMOR Gear for my plates.
Excellent and informative plus entertaining. As you state . Tactics are the number one defence. Would be interesting to see just how much energy is needed to run around in that kit !
Thanks for the hard work Eric and chad I learned a lot today from this video!!! Now I'm courious about soviet rounds such as 5.45x39- 7.62x39 and 7.62x54r. Well I trust the both of you will make a video about those calibers vs AR-500 armor.
It looked like Chad's "miss" with the .357 would have come pretty close to or maybe even hitting that left rotator cuff. All-in-all, that AR500 rig looks like really nice/high quality stuff that actually works above and beyond. Thanks for the video.
Eric, are you guys testing the new level IV or the IIIA? This plate took a beating that nobody else has been able to replicate. Tim was blasting through the ones that he was testing with 30-06 and 7.62x54R. Even .308 I think I'm glad I bought these.
I'm surprised that the .30-06 penetrator didn't go through. The guys at Demolition Ranch tested this armor with a .308 penetrator and got it to go through.
Very good video on AR500 armor. It convinced me to buy it. I wouldn't be "backstrapping" that .500 if I were you. You got bit! ( I own the same revolver, and I keep my thumb out of there! LOL )
Always thought it would be a good idea to have one of these if you were in the woods in an area that has alot of hunters running around during the season. accidents happen, could save your life.
ERIC, How about the crush factor trauma, bro? The broken ribs from the higher velocity/heavy weight projectiles impacting the body armor system? Been there, Done that, Got the t-shirt, the broken ribs and the scars , and wore them all out repeatedly from Vietnam to the sandbox bro. Thank You for an other great production bro.
Just thinking about how that plate is designed, and i was thinking why not put a small lip on all the sides to redirect the shrapnel away from the body.
I've also seen these AR-500 armor plates stop a .338 lapua magnum (standard lead projectile) at under 100m. Twice. Also, these plates were never intended for .30-06 M2 AP ammunition, that's lvl4 armor or better. That is impressive.
Those with experience with both types of plates ( steel and ceramics ) What do you say?? I'm not sold on the ar500 yet. It's a good alternative to nothing but... 18:57 check out the spalling that flies straight up into a would be wears face. For WROL it may be optimal where you had just one set to depend on. But aside from that I stick with my lvl IVA stand alone ceramics for everyday use.
I didn’t think that level 3 plate was supposed to stop .30-.06 because of how fast that round is. I’ve seen vids where 5.56 xm193 out of a 24” barrel punched right through those 3a plates, cause of the velocity you can get from those rounds.
carl johnson I believe you are correct. www.bulletproofme.com/Ballistic_Protection_Levels.shtml That is a great sight that gives examples of what each body armor level is supposed to stop. Plus the only Level IV body armor (something that would stop a .30-06 AP) that AR500 makes is Ceramic. So the best armor that they might have (since they said it was steel) is Level III+. I'm not saying that Level III+ armor won't stop a .30-06 AP round but it's not rated to do so. It bugs me a little that they did not specify what the rating was of the plate that they shot. I fear that Iraqveteran8888 might be pulling some wool over our eyes. I wonder if they got a little kickback from AR500? Call me cynical.
+telekinetic13 I agree. This is just level III armor and is not rated for .06 ap rounds at all. I've seen the same armor penetrated easily by .06 ap on demolition ranch's channel. I'm definitely thinking they pulled some sort of trick for this test and it wasn't truly shot the way they said.
+telekinetic13 We fire a wide variety of calibers and ammunition types at their Level III AR500 steel trauma plates to test the strength of not only the steel but also their proprietary Line-X anti-spalling coating. it says this in the description on ar500 website they also have a truama pad option i dont think they had these in the video
Every review ALWAYS leaves out the common AR 55gr M193, which will go right through AR500 at closer ranges with a 16+in barrel. btw LVL 3A is the highest NIJ rated SOFT kevlar armor, LVL 3 (HARD) is for typical FMJ rifle rounds and LVL 4 is Armor piercing (APM2). AR500 1/4in is LVL 3.
Great video guys. If a .308 won't go through, I know a .22lr won't either. However, to quote a good friend of mine "A .22lr will kill the crap out of you".
22 is the best by fare for protection
A Vietnam era flak vest will stop a .22lr
22 is crap ...that's all
Scott Boss
There are dead people who would disagree. Yeah, a .22 won't do the same massive damage over a large area as a high caliber round will do, but a .22 will penetrate significantly into a body that it will reach vital organs. Not that anybody would recommend a .22 for self defense over a .44, but I'm just saying that it's not complete crap.
Scott Boss a 22lr will make you just as dead as a bazooka..............
Ribs are gonna be sore, but very impressive demonstration!
Lol I'm sub to you
OMG FUNKER I LOVE YOUR VIDS
oof
Id rather have sore ribs then a dead brain.
Broken ribs probably.
FINALLY someone shot this while in the plate carrier so that I can see how well the carrier stops fragments (which seems to do well)
Awesome video Eric!
I miss hearing "welcome back everybody this is eric and barry"
I know 😭. (Lol 5 years later) .
Chad's cool, but he'll never be Barry cool...
I met berry with the lost art cut shell video
As an ex-Corrections officer for the Commonwealth of VA, I wish they'd used this. I was always a little worried when doing a transfer or a hospital run with level III-A soft armor. Pretty incredible steel, and not terribly heavy.
Chad adds a valuable addition to the information level of the channel. You guys ain't even bothering to take names.
Great vid guys!
One thing that wasn't mentioned as far as civilian use is just general protection when recreational shooting.
Say you go out to shoot in the woods with some friends and a new shooter comes with. Oh, and one of these days I'm going to have to make the drive out to Moss (West Georgia, here). I've enjoyed all the videos and info, and Eric, Barry (RIP) and Chad just seem like a good bunch of guys.
I was planning on complaining about every youtube channel doing AR500 tests, but watched til the end. Good job on the realistic tests.
You should have tried the 7.62 x 54R steel cored.
This was the best 500 armor test ever made!!! Good job and thank you guys.
Ended up getting some III+ with extra thick antispalding coating from AR500 armor and they are good quality. This video is what made my decision
R.I.P. Barry
Thanks Eric! I bought a set of these plates last week, but its good to see an informative in-depth video on them. Good going!
Why not fold the edges of the plate forwards to reduce the dangers of spalling.
I would like to take this time to thank you for your service to this great country Eric. I hope you and your's have a safe and happy Memorial day.
Level III armor survived 30.06 AP ?? Strange
Aleksandar Ćurguz not strange anymore. I’ve seen level 3 armor stop 5.56AP consecutively and then seen it rip through consecutively. That's not russian lvl III arrmor...
Level 3 is rated for 7.62 mm full metal jacket going 2700 fps.A 308 AP will go straight through it so yes I was surprised with the 30-06 results.
@@bensingleton9146 ultra strange 😀
Great video thank you guys for putting in the work I have to say that took a lot more than I thought it would. The AP 30-06 I was impressed with. Stay safe all!

Very good point that I never even thought of
Chad doesn't need armour when your a cybernetic organism, great vid, was hoping for an ammo dump or 50 cal
I bought the AR500 plates and could not be happier! those vests have been sold out for weeks on the website... and here yall are destroying one... good job and thank you...
WHAT AN AMAZING VIDEO!!! Guys your channels is incredible right now!
Superb video. I like the fact that you tested the armor in a carrier. It was much more realistic that placing one plate in a card board box. Keep up the excellent work.
Great video! I had purchased mine a year ago! Well worth it! Glad to see more support for the ar500 line x plates!
What is that clicking noise heard after every trigger pull? If it's the trigger reset sound, it sure is loud...
Blown away with how well that anti spalling coating held up. Seen vests that have been shot 4 times and the rubber covering the front just pops off
Philosophy of use?!?!
I didn't know you guys took Nutn's job.
Let me make something clear guys. I've never sat through more than 1 minute of any of his videos. Don't get me wrong...I'm sure he's an okay guy, but I just don't have time. Hey MrAllanHolman, aren’t you a member of the North American Man/Boy Love Association? You are pretty much suggesting that if a person uses a word then no one else is ever allowed to use it either. Another good video. Nice Garand. To think I qualified with the Garand when I was in the military. Wish I was young like you fellows.
Chad made some valid points to own body armor that i never thought about...Good Video.
Nice video! I just watched a AR500 vs ESAPI video yesterday but it was a few years old and i like youre videos better!
I bought my armor today at their facility. They really treated me well and fit my armor to me! Glad I live within 20 miles of their facility. I'm likely to purchase another as it doesn't get better than this and I'm looking for a custom home armor. My purchase was for rifle threats with mag pouches and holster. Very well done! Your vids keep getting better. Keep it up!
Awesome review. Good info kept interesting. Now to the ar500 website!
Matt did the same round on Demolition Ranch, 30.06 black tip. Punched through both level 3 and level 3+...
Thehossusmc has a video of testing an armor plate in the desert. They shot it twice in the same spot with a .338 Lapua and it stopped both shots and it was home made from 1/4 inch AR500 steel.

That Scar Heavy is sooo nice nice set up
I bet Chad never loses a staring contest
Lmaooo was literally looking for this comment. Cause I thought the same thing
👀
Awesome shirt Eric. Great video.
The first 2 min of the video all I can think about is... no dont shoot the plate carrier i need a new plate carrier.lol
Great video guys!
Please make more armor tests videos. The guys in law enforcement and in the Army are following those videos in TH-cam
HAHA!! You said "Philosophy of use". HAHA!
I think there's plenty of TNPers here
Yep, he sure did.
YA DON'T SAY
Nothing wrong with that.
Nutn and Iraqveteran are two of my favorite channels.
Paul, schon wieder du
It appears to be level III armor, I'm surprised that it stopped m-2 black-tipped.
guys, THANKS YOU ! you are one of the best TH-cam channels about guns.
from Яussia with love and respect :)
Русские
I love the smile and the quote " it smacked the crap out of that" after shooting it with the 500........... :)
Great review guys that plate stop more than I thought it would good stuff to stop the rifle rounds.
Awesome vid love to see more like this one!!
I'll be very satisfied knowing that I bought a great product and knowing it can take good hits!! Great for doing security work!
Would have liked to see the back of the first plate. And that was another plate for the second part of the vid, no?
Excellent and informative plus entertaining.
As you state . Tactics are the number one defence.
Would be interesting to see just how much energy is needed to run around in that kit !
Just one problem with the "Shooter's cuts" at 3:00 got hit in the lung missing the plate completely. Went right through and through.
Thanks for the hard work Eric and chad I learned a lot today from this video!!! Now I'm courious about soviet rounds such as 5.45x39- 7.62x39 and 7.62x54r. Well I trust the both of you will make a video about those calibers vs AR-500 armor.
I wished they would do a big bore rifle video like 458 win mag or lott.
Thanks guys excellent work
Great video man... yall keep it up.. always interesting, educational, and all around good fun!!!
Honestly, I think this production is better than if the Discovery Channel had done it.
Really good video. Enjoyed it. I am shocked it could stop the M2 AP.
Very nice video and short explanation of body armor. Pretty impressive how little shrapnel escapes for how many rounds you put into it.
Great vid. Keep in mind that the body can get leathel damage by the shockwaves from the hits.
Love you guys. Keep the videos coming
i was very impressed seeing lvl 3+ stopping 30-06 AP, strange other videos shows 30-06 AP flies straight thru the armor
Demo Ranch's vid pounded their plate like crazy before going to the AP round.
Great video guys!
Love my od green plate carrier with ar500 front, back, and side plates good to know they can take multiple hits like that!!
I can only imagine what fun Barry would have had in this video! May he rest in peace!
It looked like Chad's "miss" with the .357 would have come pretty close to or maybe even hitting that left rotator cuff. All-in-all, that AR500 rig looks like really nice/high quality stuff that actually works above and beyond. Thanks for the video.
I've been waiting for this video ever since I saw you post that photo with the 500 magnum on facebook lol. Great video guys!
Love you guys. Much love from the UK
Eric, are you guys testing the new level IV or the IIIA? This plate took a beating that nobody else has been able to replicate. Tim was blasting through the ones that he was testing with 30-06 and 7.62x54R. Even .308 I think
I'm glad I bought these.
It looks like that 500 magnum at the end left a bit of "hammer bite" on his thumb when fired.
Great video! thanks for the great review and information! Keep it up!
I'm surprised that the .30-06 penetrator didn't go through. The guys at Demolition Ranch tested this armor with a .308 penetrator and got it to go through.
Haha great vid timing. I just picked out a Plate Carrier today and I am getting AR500 Lev III Rifle Plates
best video ive seen from you guys
Believe it or not, I've seen a .45 acp round bounce off of one of those kevlar frag vests at 25 yards. I was very surprised.
Been there, Done that, Got the t-shirt, the broken ribs and the scars , and wore them all out repeatedly from Vietnam to the sandbox bro.

educational and cool, very cool, thanks for the time and effort, great video.
Some very cool testing!

Awesome vídeo dude!!!
Yes I have same plates with extra spalling liner
Very well done guys!
I didn’t think that level 3 plate was supposed to stop .30-.06 because of how fast that round is. I’ve seen vids where 5.56 xm193 out of a 24” barrel punched right through those 3a plates, cause of the velocity you can get from those rounds.
Id love to see some body armor test with fort scott munitions TUI solid copper ammo see how it fairs
I thought that only level iv plates stop 30.06 caliber no the level iii
carl johnson I believe you are correct. www.bulletproofme.com/Ballistic_Protection_Levels.shtml That is a great sight that gives examples of what each body armor level is supposed to stop. it says this in the description on ar500 website they also have a truama pad option i dont think they had these in the video
No matter how you slice it, it still would have had a .25 caliber tungsten core sticking out of the plate.
Representing INGO! Nice man! Great vid too!
Need clarification. Other vids show 30-06AP slicing through this level III with ease, but this one stops it?
level 4 AR500 is rated for 30-06 AP (yes I know theyre shooting level 3)
hanzo52281 yeah I noticed that too, probably misspoke, cuz 308 AP will go through so 30/06 AP would as well
maybe garands have shit muzzle velocity? idk
