  • Check all coyote sounds in one video!
Coyotes are famous for their mysterious howls at night. They're also famous for their talent at catching rabbits and other small animals. However, most people don't know that Coyotes are territorial animals. They only live in certain areas of the country and have only been living in America for a short time. There are only a few places in the United States that have healthy numbers of Coyotes. That's why people love to hear these elusive creatures.
Most people think that Coyotes howl at night to communicate with each other. This is true- but only some of the time. When they're frightened or angry, Coyotes howl very loudly. This is called a defensive howl, and it's used to scare enemies away from the territory. They also howl when they're hunting or looking for food. Coyotes use a lot of different sounds when they're in distress or trying to hunt something down. They're very vocal animals overall.
Most people think that Coyotes are good at catching rabbits and other small animals. This is mostly true- but not exactly accurate. They're actually much better at hunting smaller animals than larger ones. Coyotes primarily hunt rabbits, gophers, mice, pigeons, dove pigeons and other small mammals with their teeth and claws. They don't have large jaw muscles like hunters do; instead they use their jaws like a net to catch smaller animals. After a successful hunt, Coyotes will often bring down birds and other mammals with their meat as well. It's best to think of them as a scavenger first and foremost, not an attacksuit animal.
It's hard to believe that such a large animal can live in such a small space. Coyotes are territorial by nature- so they only live in certain areas of the country. They start out living in dens along the banks of rivers and lakes in the springtime. Each year they move closer to towns and cities where there are more humans to eat and multiply. Over time, they grow so strong that humans dare not cross them. However, this is an incorrect belief- Coyotes are not dangerous to humans no matter where they live.
Coyotes are famous for their mysterious howls at night- but they're also famous for their many other talents. People love hearing these wild creatures because they remind us of our wild west heritage. They're also good at catching rabbits and other small animals, which makes them even more endearing to us humans! It's lucky that such an endearing creature has graced our land; we would be less vibrant without them!

If you didn’t know what those sounds were, they’re pretty terrifying. We’re used to them here in the Midwest. It’s actually a comforting sound to me, they carry on most of the night when we go camping.

i just heard some, theres a cow pasture with about 300 head of cattle and im pretty sure they got one, there was a weird call, it was like 3 barks at a fast pace all at once and it was repetitive, i just called the owner of the pastures wife so she can get him up there to make sure everything's okay, they had someone up there sitting hunting the coyotes but he was Def on the wrong side, never heard any gunshots just seen a light and a truck stationary

I’m pretty sure I just heard some kill some kind of small animal that screeches but they didn’t howl after the screeching stopped there was just silence. The small animal however did sound like it was in pain during the fight . Idk if it was really coyotes but it was definitely violent

We were awakened this morning at 2:30am by one going off right outside our open bedroom window with the most horrendous guttural screaming type call that went on for what seamed like a minute, but was probably 30 seconds

I'm from New Zealand myself. Admittedly a pretty boring place lmao. The sounds of the coyote send chills down my spine, they're beautiful animals but their calls are quite unsettling to me.

Coyotes always make me think of camping in California, but the wildest time I heard their calls was late at night in an Indianapolis cemetery.

I live in a heavily wooded area and when I am home alone at night they scream really loud and before I knew it was a coyote I could have sworn it was a skin walker

I’m in Ohio and I’m smoking a cig at night and heard the sound of a coyote or dog quite interesting how similar they sound but def a coyote. I live by the woods so would make a lot of sense. It made a repetitive nose over and over again like whoo whoo whoo who, ohwwww ohw interesting

I wish you had some captioning for different situations that evoke these particular sounds… In the first couple of minutes it sounded like a human whistling, but I wasn’t sure… Also, the video imagery not matching. The sound was confusing at first. Thanks for sharing these. We have several coyote packs, competing for territory in our wooded neighborhood and lately I’ve heard lots of sounds from my backyard after midnight that are so strange I couldn’t identify them. It’s like a cross between a bird screech, and definitely a call of distress… I wasn’t sure if it was, something being killed by a coyote or a coyote itself. The closest sound to the horrible sound I’ve heard is right around 9:14 so that’s helpful … not exactly the same, but similar.

Shouldn't need to be too afraid. Coyotes are wary animals who rarely attack humans, they mostly prefer to avoid us. If you have a little dog with you though, keep that baby inside if you hear these noises.

Is that a wolf or coyote 4:52!? If it's a coyote, what part of N America are they particular to!?

If you are referring to the image, yes it's a coyote with very thick hair.
They get thick hair like that in the northern, colder climate.
