The robo wolf had no smell of a mother or a pack, implying to the mother that this wolf cub is very alone and not part of a rival pack. She peed on it to give it her scent so the other wolves won't kill it. It is one of the pack now.
Wolves have been known to take in human infants on occasion. Started an empire that way, too.
