After the divorce she went back to her parents in Koeln. And I believe they both actually truly did love each other regardless of the wife to whom he was married afterwards. And I could have sworn he visited her in Germany quite often. Soraya was beautiful, classy and elegant until her last day. He was actually a good looking chap until the end as well. True, and it wasn't even mentioned. That would have been a good time point to anchor parts of the story to. Instead, we jump from after the revolution, to a point before the Shah comes to power, as if they happened in sequence! Wow.
Yes you are correct friend. All I know is that in my.lifetime, when Shah was in Office, it was a safe place for visitors. In fact, so safe that, during WW2, Winston Churchill and other allied leaders signed an agreement there. A contingent of the British Army accompanied him. My father was one of them. We have his photographs as proof. Historians will know of this but dad told my son of the details. I was only interested in geographical details and culture. But the Shah did warn, and pleaded not to be deposed or Persia as it was, would implode. He was deposed as you know and when the Ayatollah took office, dad was very saddened to see the change. And the enmity that wasn't there before. Its an excellent study for a young historian. But, even months ago, I never thought I would see its womenfolk become rebellious for their freedom. I m sorry to say, this marriage has little to do with love. A promiscuous man marrying an underage girl has something to do with pedophile intentions and obtaining her virginity ... unfortunately a price men in Muslim societies love to obtain and abuse.
We need to remember, people who hurt people are, hurt themselves. Reality you can not give to others what you haven’t given yourself. That greatly includes love. I have read other stories on her and never heard all this negative view before. I do not know where it comes for and doubt it is true. The whole story is a negative view of someone who is not here to defend herself. Other stories on her have all been positive. 🤔
She reminds me of Ingrid Bergman. Also the Iranian royal family maybe very patriarchal and difficult for an outsider to live with them but at least unlike most of the other royal families in the Middle East, they allowed their women to be seen in the public looking glamorous and allowed them to have a voice. You would never hear about the women of all the kingdoms of the Middle East except Jordanian royals.

The narrator's voice and intonation was so well suited to read/voice the story. I usually don't have patience watching videos until the end because of bad narration but this one was exceptional. 👍🏻
Lovely Scottish voice but facts were rather incorrect. According to her biography. Was the biography incorrect? Not according to Wikipaedia. This frustrates me to hear such heart rending stories. Twisting facts to suit....doesn't often work. Someone is going to research it and once rubbished, won't watch again. Same story being narrated as well by Scottish woman. Hmmm
Absolutely true. I had a favorite Narrator on a television show. She had a gift for powerful storytelling. Once she left, the new Narrator is not very good and I have trouble staying engaged.
I watched this story, because I have a gold coin with the Shah on it. He had come to visit my family in Ohio. The Shah’s right hand man gave the coin to my grandmother for her generous hospitality. Then you showed the picture of Edward VII and Wallis Simpson, they also visited my family and I have a picture of them. My family were like the Rockefeller’s of Ohio. I am not like a Rockefeller, I’m normal, but have some fun stories and pictures.
I live in Ohio! Thats a great story! I remember in high school there were many Iranian students here. I live near Ohio Wesleyan University. Such polite young men the few i met. My best friend was a host family for 3 such young men. Their names? Reza, Reza and Hussein. They taught us to play backgammon, and I still play avidly to this day. I may have an idea of your name, but I will never tell?? LOL. I liked that you said you were normal, most of us in Ohio are pretty down to earth. I can only imagine what an honor it was to meet him, so dashing and handsome. Then came the "revolution" and alas, such a sad, sad ending to that time period! . No new friends, or old, from that country across the seas. Freedom to the Iranian people! We women of the free world are on your side, strength to our sisters!
I watched this story because I remember when the Iatola took power away from the Shah and how disgusted my parents were that Jimmy Carter refused him asylum
Actually, Soraya had more love affairs than these revealed here. I remember the tabloids pointing out she had an intense relationship with the German/Jewish actor, Maximilian Shell… in this context, it is a strange omission😮❤
Anyone noticed that Soraya DIED on the exact day of Shah's BIRTHDAY, on 26th October ? Nobody ever knew something about the cause of her death. This "coincidence" makes me suspect rather a willful end....😢❤
Soraya was only a Queen. The ONLY EMPRESS of Iran was the Shah's last wife, the ONLY wife to give the Shah his male heir Crown Prince Reza and that is Farah Diba or more correctly, the Empress Farah Diba Pahlavi, the Shahbanou Farah Diba Pahlavi.
Thanks for sharing great video about the Princess Soraya Essandiary Pahlavi and Mohammed Shah Pahlavi,I myself was always fascinated with Iranian history and royal family, Princess Soraya was absolutely beautiful .Sadly her life was full of tragedy and sadness till the end and she was in deed the Princess with sad eyes .
Farah Deeba came to Pakistan and our school girls welcomed her with a show . I was part of that group of little girls from Queen Mary School Lahore . We were fascinated by the Shah and his queen.
Thanks for this. Did you also know that two of the Shah and Empress Farah Dibas children also met tragic ends which echoes that of Princess Soraya and her brother ? Very sad.
My father in law had the privilege of knowing the shah and Soraya in person, when he was stationed in Iran in the fifties, on request of the dutch government. We still have the unique pictures from those days.
The narrator was excellent! The story was told in an interesting manner and kept the listener’s attention focused - which is a very important trait in a story teller ! Keep going and research more stories - I think you have a ery real talent!
@noree1111 As a story yes you are right. But, he was supposed to tell a historical fact that is very important to us the Iranian people. But, this guy does not provide any references for his claims. Was he there when all these happened or heard from whom or read from where?
The narrator was good Noree but comparing the contents with Wikipaedia, it's not strictly true. Really advise you to read the Wiki account. Lots of discrepancies. She was goaded by his family on regular basis and by Shah's Secretary of sorts who was homosexual and hated women, especially Soraya. Hmm His 'suggestions' made her see red. So would account for that 'temper'.
I saw the Shah on his state visit to Dacca, East Pakistan (Bangladesh) in 1970. I also read autobiography of Princess Suraya translated in Bangla. "When I was Queen". So beautiful. So sad. In 1979 I returned to Dhaka after engineering study in Canada. And I met a girl. Her father's side was French. Mother's side Punjabi. I couldn't sleep at night. Her eyes and nose exactly like Suraya.
Punjabi girl married to a French? kind of difficult to believe to begin with bc those Punjab ppl are known to kill their female newborn let alone let her marry a stranger without selling her to the highest punjabi bidder. ever watched NINA AOUILK TESTIMONY ?
The negative side of Soraya has always been swept under the rug. The information you give seems to be very much in agreement with the reality. Thank you 👍🏼
I am almost 80 years old and while it was tragic that Soraya was divorced because she was barren, I remember the reign of Empress Farah Diva Pahlavi well. I greatly admired her authentic and tireless work for the poor and needy, for social justice, education and women's rights. She was greatly loved by the common people whose standards of living were greatly improved. Despite all the propaganda one reads, the Shah was very forward thinking and cared about his people, fully supporting his wife's efforts. Schools and hospitals were established and thrived under their rule and it was the insidious rise of Islam which undermined the monarchy. Yes - an indulgent lifestyle was very evident and seen by many as excessive. However, one just needs to look at the British people's joyful participation in Royal events to see evidence that the public generally love the pomp and splendour associated with belonging to a monarchy.
In contrast, Soraya wasn't really a social worker or anything of that sort. In fact, she often complained that she had to go to poor areas and meet with poor people and help them. She was quite spoilt and borderline racist to the Iranian people despite being half Iranian. Because of her European upbringing

I read that Soraya, 69, was found by her maid, dead on the floor of her Apartment's bedroom. Apparently a massive brain hemorrhage was the cause of Soraya's death.😔🌹
Must have had an aneurysm. She would have complained about headaches on a regular basis without getting much relief from analgesics. It was a quick and sudden way to go. Up to about 40% of the population have aneurysms and don't know it, unless it is found by coincidence on an x-ray. There are no symptoms while they are small, but they eventually can get quite large before they are noticed. Often runs in families.
although for a woman its the worst thing not being able to give life, and unfortunately in that part of the world in Asia, southern Europe, Africa, and south america they pick on women, and ridicule them for being barren, which is so cruel. she wasn't a saint herself. she was mean as hell to his daughter, to people, and i can understand the in laws being just as mean, but there's no sympathy for this woman. your status doesn't give you a free hand to be mean to others. period. may she rest in peace, and hopefully if she made it to the other side, they were together in the celestial world. many thanks for your informative video, can't wait to see some more. peace and light to all.
So is Fawzia mixed up with Soraya re mood swings? Mum used to say,'what was she like'. Dad would smilingly reply, 'a beautiful Empress'. He wouldn't know personally of course but she was discussed alot. But dad would never be drawn on things mum wanted to know. So she often told me to ask him . 🤣🤣🤣 a child of about 11 or 12. Dad puffed on his pipe and chuckled cos I always started by saying,'mum says.......
@arnoeeuwigheid4499 I've read that too. But she was goaded and insulted on a daily basis by Shah's mother and family. Plus the Shah's private secretary who was Swiss, was a homosexual and disliked Soraya. He was impertinent enough to ask her questions about her sex life. Then she flew into rages and ordered him out. So would I have done with a heavy inkwell following him. She had no back up which angered her. And poverty of many upset her.
Nice presentation! Yet you didn’t say much about her life as an aspiring movie star. There’s a lot there even if she only appeared in less than a few movies. She was among actors/actresses like that of Ursula Andress and Richard Harris. If you can try to do another clip about her attempts at being a movie star. She also wrote a book. Anyway, thanks for posting

Thank you for the great piece. I only knew of Empress Farah Dibah and some political events. I didn't know that Mossadegh was serving under Rezah. Excellent narration and paced well. I worked in Iran from 1975 - 77 Nov. Iran was going through a boom. The economic disparity was widening at warp speed. Savak, the secret police was spying on everyone. Pubs and restaurants were serving alcohol. Teheran had a great night life including cabarets. It seemed like a bubble totally disconnected from the ultra traditional public. Lower class reeled with rising prices and disparity. The middle class was complaining about traffic jams. It seemed like I was witnessing a bubble.

Vanity, it’s all vanity under the Sun ☀️. What an absolute waste of energy and planning for the Shah to have an heir for the throne. He and Soraya loved each other very much, but divorced because she was barren. So, he married Farah, she gave him heirs for the throne, but what throne? All of his efforts went to waste, he was a good man, he truly loved his country and his people, he even told a reporter in the early 70s… “…I can try to forgive you if you hurt my family, but if you hurt my country and people that I will not forgive.” A highly intelligent and educated man who spoke three or four languages in full. These savage Muslims dethroned him and he died very young from cancer at the age 60. Before leaving Iran, he took with him a container full of Iranian soil/earth with him, because he loved his country so much. You don't realize what you have until you lose it for good and you should have cherished it. His son for the past 45 years has tried to gain his rightful place as the next King, but this will never happen. Iran 🇮🇷 will never be allowed to regain its glory again, these savages will never allow it. So heartbreaking, the Shah was too good for his people, they didn’t deserve to have such a wonderful leader for a king 👑. I remember so clearly that people were jumping up and down when the Shah left, they were so happy, but shortly afterwards they were hit with a very rude awakening, the liberty and freedom they were promised by the Islamic government became their worst nightmare. The Shah was turning Iran into the paradise of the Middle East, but the Iranian Muslims don't like freedom and liberty as they say they do, their version of liberty and freedom is totalitarianism, and so they got what they wanted, the Shah was too good for them, he wasn't savage enough. Be careful what you wish for, spitting in the wind can blow back to your face. At the end it’s all vanity of vanities under the Sun ☀️, it’s all meaningless, no good deed goes unpunished. RIP Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, your people didn't deserve what they had in you, too much of a good thing like prosperity, safety, and freedom was sacrilege to them. Vanity of all vanities under the Sun, it's all meaningless, because deep within the human sub-conscience there's an insatiable desire for chaos, greed, avarice and power, and only a few individuals like the Shah have the conscience and morals to put their people first. What a wicked and savage world.
You've said it well. It takes one to lose one to know the true meaning of freedom. Iran has been in perpetual chaos ever since. Truly hope this turns around to the times when the Shah of Iran was in power. Love and strength to the people of Iran ❤
I truly love your reply. You really nailed it. During WW2, he hosted a summit of Sir Winston Churchill, Stallingborough and President Eisenhower. My dad in British military was there too. He was so trusted and it was a safe place for these leaders. My inscrutable dad had only praise for the Shah but of course dad saw the poverty, which seemed to be the norm after India. The Orthodox Muslims wanted power. After the war, in the 50s, the Shah and Empress stopped off in London (having been for fertility tests USA) where they dined with the Queen Prince Philip, Sir Winston and others of note. Very westernised in many things.
I don't mean to diminish the difficulties she encountered, but there are worse endings than spending your last time in a Parisian apartment with all your expenses taken care of. As l understand the last Shah was deposed by "Western influences". That must be an interesting story as well.
One can posess all those things and still be emotionally miserable. Sometimes I think, being famously rich and beautiful can be a hindrance of ever being happy.
It was the West that brought crown prince Rezah from exile to the throne. Khomeini with the help of Mujahadheen Kalq led a popular uprising to drive the Shah out of the country.

She reminds me of Ingrid Bergman. Also the Iranian royal family maybe very patriarchal and difficult for an outsider to live with them but at least unlike most of the other royal families in the Middle East, they allowed their women to be seen in the public looking glamorous and allowed them to have a voice.

She wasn't Queen.. She was an Empress!

The negative side of Soraya has always been swept under the rug. The information you give seems to be very much in agreement with the reality. Thank you 👍🏼
I want to look at more stories like this.
Correction - Farah Diba.
@@TheJudiBambiPurrsParadox actually that was not her reputation, exactly the opposite.
In contrast, Soraya wasn't really a social worker or anything of that sort. In fact, she often complained that she had to go to poor areas and meet with poor people and help them. The 'sad-eyed" princess you are showing at 20:03 is Fawzia, his first wife, NOT Soraya.
Fawzia also was the one with the terrible mood-swings.
why were they divorced with fawzia.
Renata, you are absolutely correct! Soraya was NOT the one with the moodswings!
Fawzia was NEVER known in Egypt as having mood swings, Fawzia was just depressed about being married to the Shah.

With all due respect, the word is “narrated”. English is full of weird idioms like that. It’s an easy mistake to make; not at all your fault.
So true@
