I am African Amerian from the United States, but I do find it fascinating. A lot of people don't like the royal family and a lot of people love them. I have a detached judgment, knowing human beings no matter what, are not perfect (but rather gray). Having a whole royal family and their titles and positions, I have to admit.. very unique. On the side note, all of the things I love, I end up finding out they are from UK. My favorite writers, my favorite hat shop(lock and hatter), musicans and broochs etc. Maybe I lived there in the past life lol. But seriously, I hope one day I can visit. Anyway, I hope you continue to carry on your traditions. It's so ornate rich and intelligent. Just as I am proud of the culture of our country. Not all of it, but definitely a patriot. Interesting. Much more so now that Elizabeth II has just passed. I see Queen Elizabeth II in her namesake (the name Elizabeth that is) and mother. Her looks, the way she dressed in bold head to toe matching color, her hats, her love for horse racing, her calm quality, her dignity, and even her longevity. Queen mother 99 years of age, and Queen Elizabeth II 96 years of age, which is remarkable in itself. I feel that the Queen mother did amazingly in light of the fact that when she married “Birdie,” neither knew that one day he would be King. It is heartwarming to know that she supported her daughter in the early years of her reign after her father passed suddenly, but that she didn’t interfere. I believe though, that the Queen Mother was so supportive of her husband, without being overbearing or overpowering, that it was said that she brought out the best in him and they complemented one another, was probably her best trait in her marriage, and for her children. I totally enjoyed this video!

I will always cherish as my family has of the photograph we have of my great auntie Mary meeting and shaking the Queen Mother's hand. My great uncle Norman established one of the most prominent all boys school at that time and he and my auntie were so grateful to have been invited to meet Elizabeth. I saw a documentary about Diana, where the princess wondered how the Queen Mother was very cold and reserved when she met her daughter Elisabeth II after a long trip. No warmer movements. Diana was not ashamed to publicly show her love for her children, but also for caring for strangers, including war victims and the poor.

I don't remember her as a great leader but rather a cold lazy boring Woman Who Loved sitting in luxury and never once served the public. Rather they served her. She did not lead she merely followed orders. She did not even address the nation after Diana was killed. She was happy Diana was finally gone because Diana had caused her nothing but trouble. That's the reason she hit away .only when public outcry became so great did her advisers tell her she better say something otherwise risk pissing everybody off forever. What a hypocrite. Who exactly did she serve and how? Everyone served HER. She never went without or demonstrated her greatness by donating even temporarily, her land for common use. It occurs to me that I was born in 1947 when Queen Elizabeth got married and she and Phillip were on the same generation as my parents. Parents in that time were more traditional in raising their children... not quite as emotionally giving to their children and stricter. Although reluctant to marry Prince Albert at first, she of course eventually did. Being smarter than most of the Windsors then close to the throne, and tough as an old boot as well, she infused the family with political savvy and iron resolve. She and George VI served as a tower of strength for the British people during WW2. To suggest however that she was not a strong political force within the royal family is ludicrous. The speaker quotes information published in a 1987 book on the Queen's Jewels which described in error the “Hanoverian tiara/necklace” made for Queen Adelaide in 1830 and not Queen Victoria who later inherited it in 1837. That tiara is a different from the fringe tiara that Princess Anne & the Queen wore to their weddings. The tiaras look almost similar but this wedding tiara was made by Queen Mary in 1919 as a more modern alternative to the Queen Adelaide tiara. Mary gifted it to the Queen mother in 1936 who bequeathed it to the Queen in 2002. Both tiaras are now in the royal vault,

It wasn't until Hugh Roberts went digging through the Royal Archives for into to publish "The Queen's Diamonds" that we found out the provenance of these two very similar fringe tiaras.
Thank goodness the tiaras are safely locked up a new addition to the family misunderstood the tiara situation and caused a ruckus about an Emerald Tiara. I understood that the Queen Mother was in a bad financial state when she died. She had really overspent. We see another situation with battles between Princes over an American and maybe the outcome will be similar, who knows, settling their differences is unfortunately during a time of mourning for Prince Philip.

I worked the platinum jubilee as a sound engineer for the show at cardiff castle. Met Prince William and Kate. I’m not a big fan of the monarchy but surprised how frustrated I am with some of the comments and posts about the queen mocking her death.

So true. Bad diet, full of animal fats, overcooked vegetables, not much fresh fruit and heavy drinking smoking was normal. The uk hardly gets the sun, so people were also deficient in Vitamin D3. I found it odd that the Queen Mother was so particular about her outfits, dresses, jewelry, and hats, as a fashion perfectionist , but her teeth were absolutely appalling in every photograph and video made within the last twenty five to thirty years before her death. Her teeth were yellowed, with black ends and it appeared as if her teeth were rotting in her mouth. Surely, she could have afforded dentistry to clean and repair her teeth , or to remove them and give her teeth implants, if she didn't want dentures.
I wondered about that as well. Apparently the Royals will have nothing to do with plastic surgery….maybe she thought aesthetic tooth repair was a similar no-no? The other issue is that she drank a fair amount of red wine….which can stain one’s teeth badly.
She had BRITISH teeth! And she was proud of them. It's only fairly recently the Brits en-mass have started doing cosmetic improvements to their choppers. Sadly nowadays most of them cannot afford to visit a dentist, so their teeth are slowly going in back in time. The Health Service hardly works at all in some areas, and they are so done down as a nation, they cannot afford private.
They are very simply British teeth. The royals have never been big fans of cosmetic surgeries until about 20-30 years ago when the younger princesses married into the family. The mostly just wore makeup to enhance their natural beauty. But if I remember right Princess Katherine spent upwards of 12K by visiting a hugely popular French dentist who has mastered applying braces/straightening out the teeth from behind so there are no visible “train tracks”. The results apparently produce a perfect smile but still retain the British qualities… quite interesting

If you can't hire a genealogist to do the tedious research, you can do it yourself. If you know your grandparents names, or great grandparents' names, as well as where they lived, you can start with the Census Records, taken every ten years, and begin by working your way backwards in time.
@@meeeka I’ve actually been researching and I’ve gotten to my great great great great grandparents on my paternal side.. my grandmothers maiden last name was Cervantes and I traced back to Spain and a relative who was an author and wrote Don Quijote and Sancho Pansa? But I want to make sure and verify.. my Barragan side kind of just fades.. I’m curios about some of my ancestors being written down as being white? Both in Mexican records and Us records.. but in some it says indigenous mixed with white.... what categorized someone as being white? I think figuring that out could give me a lead on where to look next
There is a little known reason why she wore such loose clothes - she had had part of the large bowel removed (for a precancerous condition) and was left with a colostomy - the flowing dresses masked the colostomy bag. Another little known fact is that she had both her daughters (Elizabeth and Margaret) via Caesarian section - that is why there were no more children, as Caesarean sections were dangerous, and could only be performed twice in delivery. Interesting. Much more so now that Elizabeth II has just passed. I see Queen Elizabeth II in her namesake (the name Elizabeth that is) and mother. Her looks, the way she dressed in bold head to toe matching color, her hats, her love for horse racing, her calm quality, her dignity, and even her longevity. Queen mother 99 years of age, and Queen Elizabeth II 96 years of age, which is remarkable in itself.
I feel that the Queen mother did amazingly in light of the fact that when she married “Birdie,” neither knew that one day he would be King. It is heartwarming to know that she supported her daughter in the early years of her reign after her father passed suddenly, but that she didn’t interfere.
I believe though, that the Queen Mother was so supportive of her husband, without being overbearing or overpowering, that it was said that she brought out the best in him and they complemented one another, was probably her best trait in her marriage, and for her children.

I will always cherish as my family has of the photograph we have of my great auntie Mary meeting and shaking the Queen Mother's hand. My great uncle Norman established one of the most prominent all boys school at that time and he and my auntie were so grateful to have been invited to meet Elizabeth. I saw a documentary about Diana, where the princess wondered how the Queen Mother was very cold and reserved when she met her daughter Elisabeth II after a long trip. No warmer movements. Many of Charles friends followed suit and both Camilla & Charles were invited to weekend events, Princess Diana did Not receive an invitation to those parties! I don't remember her as a great leader but rather a cold lazy boring Woman Who Loved sitting in luxury and never once served the public. Rather they served her. She did not lead she merely followed orders. She did not even address the nation after Diana was killed. She was happy Diana was finally gone because Diana had caused her nothing but trouble. That's the reason she hit away .only when public outcry became so great did her advisers tell her she better say something otherwise risk pissing everybody off forever. What a hypocrite. Who exactly did she serve and how? Everyone served HER. She never went without or demonstrated her greatness by donating even temporarily, her land for common use. It occurs to me that I was born in 1947 when Queen Elizabeth got married and she and Phillip were on the same generation as my parents. Parents in that time were more traditional in raising their children... not quite as emotionally giving to their children and stricter. Not that they didn’t love their children, just parental ways were different.

Although reluctant to marry Prince Albert at first, she of course eventually did. She and George VI served as a tower of strength for the British people during WW2.
To suggest however that she was not a strong political force within the royal family is ludicrous. It's quite clear she ruled the roost, having things done her way from the moment her husband became George Vi.

The speaker quotes information published in a 1987 book on the Queen's Jewels which described in error the “Hanoverian tiara/necklace” made for Queen Adelaide in 1830 and not Queen Victoria who later inherited it in 1837. That tiara is a different from the fringe tiara that Princess Anne & the Queen wore to their weddings. The tiaras look almost similar but this wedding tiara was made by Queen Mary in 1919 as a more modern alternative to the Queen Adelaide tiara. Mary gifted it to the Queen mother in 1936 who bequeathed it to the Queen in 2002. Both tiaras are now in the royal vault,

I found it odd that the Queen Mother was so particular about her outfits, dresses, jewelry, and hats, as a fashion perfectionist , but her teeth were absolutely appalling in every photograph and video made within the last twenty five to thirty years before her death. Her teeth were yellowed, with black ends and it appeared as if her teeth were rotting in her mouth. Surely, she could have afforded dentistry to clean and repair her teeth , or to remove them and give her teeth implants, if she didn't want dentures.
As old as she was, I wonder if she wasn't just afraid of dentists. Even now, people still won't go to dentists because of the fear pf pain.
I wondered about that as well. Apparently the Royals will have nothing to do with plastic surgery….maybe she thought aesthetic tooth repair was a similar no-no?
The other issue is that she drank a fair amount of red wine….which can stain one’s teeth badly.
She had BRITISH teeth! And she was proud of them. It's only fairly recently the Brits en-mass have started doing cosmetic improvements to their choppers. Sadly nowadays most of them cannot afford to visit a dentist, so their teeth are slowly going in back in time. The Health Service hardly works at all in some areas, and they are so done down as a nation, they cannot afford private.

They are very simply British teeth. The royals have never been big fans of cosmetic surgeries until about 20-30 years ago when the younger princesses married into the family. The mostly just wore makeup to enhance their natural beauty. But if I remember right Princess Katherine spent upwards of 12K by visiting a hugely popular French dentist who has mastered applying braces/straightening out the teeth from behind so there are no visible “train tracks”. The results apparently produce a perfect smile but still retain the British qualities… quite interesting

The worst thing is that the QM deliberately drove a wedge between a very young Charles and his mother, taking advantage of the long State visits QEII was forced to make to spoil him and make much too much of him, which is why they were always so close. And why Charles felt abandoned by his mother.

If you can't hire a genealogist to do the tedious research, you can do it yourself. If you know your grandparents names, or great grandparents' names, as well as where they lived, you can start with the Census Records, taken every ten years, and begin by working your way backwards in time.

But I want to make sure and verify.. my Barragan side kind of just fades.. I’m curios about some of my ancestors being written down as being white? Both in Mexican records and Us records.. but in some it says indigenous mixed with white.... what categorized someone as being white? I think figuring that out could give me a lead on where to look next

There is a little known reason why she wore such loose clothes - she had had part of the large bowel removed (for a precancerous condition) and was left with a colostomy - the flowing dresses masked the colostomy bag.

I enjoyed the clips of the wedding dresses and the jewelry most of all. I do believe Princess Diana's dress was the poofest, and grandest dress of all. Diana seemed as thought she was hiding in it. Perhaps she was.

People at that time would have put children with this illness in hospital as they didn't know how to cope. Our present queen Elizabeth does however have a grandson William. Her sons are princes Charles Andrew and Edward.
