Prince Philip's life was a miracle considering the chaos of his childhood. Now we understand where his character came from. What a great tribute to his amazing mother!
The chaos is what helped make him who he was.. a gentle, charming and funny man. I have always said..just because one is a royal..or famous and wealthy..does not mean life will be a gentle breeze. We all suffer tragedy and problems of every kind in life..they are no different. They also have the added burden of the press..paparazzi..no privacy ? Being followed everywhere you go. No thanks. @@jackcumming3663 funny how she would marry prince Andrew considering the mother being crazy locked up so many times. It's all weird. No respect for them at all.
During the German occupation in Athens Greece, my father met this remarkable woman and worked together helping the starving Greeks. Princess Alice is one of the very few royals the Greeks loved and respected.
... and later on, she was put unwillingly and with force to the Hospital authored by her husband, exile Prince Andrew, she was seen as a burden to him. Another fact is that Princess Alice is not the first Princess/Prince being put/stored away from family and the public.

Im tearing up reading this since it reminded me that nobody was by her side when she needed them most. And she wasn't there for her son when he needed him when he was young. To her it must mean something so she left it to her son. It sound like a relief as if her death enables her to be with him at any time. A form of compensation and a blessing.
Ugh this broke my heart when they read her letter. How many endless nights did she cry in solitude and missing and longing for her children and her son. Her love never ended for her son even if he was cold to her. ❤️
@@iyearn1993 Philip was not cold to her. She actually lived her last 2 years with him at Buckingham palace and he fulfilled her last wish by burying her in Jerusalem. He loved her and he was not afraid to show it.

If only christians were more like her, more like the christ they claim to love, then maybe I wouldn't dislike the whole thing so much, but she was a truly rare being
Princess Alice ' life is one of service, sacrifice and extraordinary courage. Prince Philip should be proud and honored to have her as a mother. She was able to overcome enormous emotional, mental and even social adversity. The life of other royals pale in comparison to this remarkable woman.
I am so moved by her story. What strength she had to survive the torture of incarceration, mental illness and persecution and then give her all to people in need. Thank you so much for posting this
I understand that Philip used diamonds from that tiara to have them used for the future Queen's engagement ring (which he designed), so I don't think Ann could have worn that tiara...
Zara (Anne's daughter) Wore the meander tiara for her wedding. Princess Alice gave the meander tiara to Queen (then Princess) Elizabeth on her wedding. The Queen, then gave it to Anne, who used to be seen wearing it as a teen/young woman. Anne wore Queen Mary's Russian fringe tiara at her wedding. Anne lent the tiara to Zara for her wedding. I assume the tiara will remain in Zara's hands after her mother passes.
What a remarkable woman! Her previous years did not deter her, did not break her, did not make her bitter but better. Eventhough she is royal, she gives herself to serve others. I think her story is absolutely fascinating.
I noticed at Philip’s wedding, Queen Mary misstepped badly. The queen mother instantly turned to her side to share a quick smile, and most likely get an instinctive bit of reassurance from Princess Alice. Alice instantly gave her a lovely smile of exactly that. I think Queen Mary must have whispered something like, “I almost fell”. Another nice moment at that wedding was when Princess Alice gave a small motion and pointed at something to get an antsy little boy in the wedding party to settle. I am so glad Prince Philip was able to arrange her final resting place as she desired. How moving his words and presence in Israel to receive the great honor his mother deserved. That must have been incredibly emotional for him, even as tough and brusque as he could sometimes be I think.
What a wonderful woman . Abondaoned and betrayed by her own family when she needed them the most . And still lived a life of purpose and meaning. Inspirational

I had to remind myself that this remarkable woman accomplished all she accomplished and experienced all she experienced while DEAF. Absolutely amazing woman. Also, of all of Queen Victoria's multitudinous offspring, it is this woman who is the grandmother of the future King of Great Britain. May she rest in peace.
There is a letter he wrote to his daughter Anna which is still in existence, where he openly joked about how the nonsense he spouted caught on so well as real doctoring. He made it up. He knew he made it up and only did it to get noticed. Even he was surprised it took off. He did a lot of damage as a result.
Princess Alice was betrayed by her own mother and her husband was indeed a traitor to his own wife while she stood by him supporting him and bearing children. What a tragedy for such a BEAUTIFUL and UNIQUE woman who was so brave❤ RIP
Yes, we can see how so often an intelligent woman of strong opinions finds her husband less than thrilled with a female with a voice. Her husband turned out to be more concerned with himself, than with his family, and blaming her - it was her outrageous behavior that made him leave. Being Deaf since birth, and learning to speak was amazing. I can see that Prince Philip inherited the drive and energy, ability to adapt , and the intelligence from his mother. It is so sad to think how much of their lives were spent apart in this life but the paralle of both their lives in Service and Devotion for others is so evident. What are Jewels but pretty stones with no inherent value , a false value placed by greedy souls. Princess Alice knew the true Value of Service outweighed the most expensive gem Man could find. A diamond is just carbon under pressure, A Soul that is rescued ,given shelter from the storm is the Gem that holds a Brilliance no Diamond could ever bestow. For each Beating Heart holds Memories, Tears and Joys, of Yesteryear echoes that really do not fade. But what - that helping hand was stayed , the Heart too selfish of it's own Desires -listened to the Voices who bleated " It is simply not done, think of the family , your reputation, your wealth. Why should you care for the child hungry on the street, the down and out begger, those Gypsies - their thieves. The answer is simple - there is the Need, Here is my Hand and my Heart. Princess Alice chose not only to See the pain of others, but do what she could to make it better in a practical, forthwright manner. Her jewels became valuable only after being sold to provide food, medicine and shelter to those turned away by those who had more resources to make a difference in saving lives, but had no compassion -- only judgement.
@@myrnaskogland1268 Very well put! You really get what made Alice so extraordinary! And I'm convinced that Prince Philip embodied his mother's values to a great degree. @Jael_Kalashnikov - All you say for the tragic life of Alice is on point, but it's unfair to be so harsh on her husband. They were all victims of terrible war and cruelty, and he was not equipped or in a position to care for her mental illness. No one was, we barely have a grasp of it now.

History and biographies are so mind boggling when an entire dateline of a fulfilling life is presented. I could not pause until the end. What a remarkable woman was princess Alice!
She battled all forms of the Devil's work in her life - physical, emotional and spiritual. She won because of her faith in God. She's a true definition of a saint.
True. Actually there is every reason that she should be sainted, if there was ever a person who should be. Also Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Raoul Wallenberg.
Thank you for an unbelievable presentation of H. R. H. Princess Alice, who is a real Saint in the full meaning of the word. From the top roof of my residence, I can see the Russian Pravoslav Church, at the border of the cemetery on Mt. Of Olives in Jerusalem. I feel that it is a unique honour to have her remains in Israel's capital. One remember her noble action, to save lives of people who became victims of Europe's viciousness and in humanity. SHE RECUED the dignity of Europe in its darkest hour. I dare say, she rose above the crowd of royal houses who looked at her from above, not realising that she flies high above them. Rest in Peace!
That poor woman's life was a real Greek tragedy. Any one of her experiences is extraordinary on its own, but collectively her story is just incredible. Her own suffering in life was like a merciless thread through so many various times and forms of human suffering and cruelty. Certainly sheds a light on Prince Philip's tough childhood. All the more respect to him.
It broke my heart when she wrote Phillip a letter saying she'd rented a small flat and she was looking forward to his going to live there with her. Aww, man, that was sad. 😭
... what? did I miss something? I never heard that. Only her final letter which was also very touching Also the news about her daughter.. A letter at the very least? she wasn't locked up at the time, she was deaf not blind
I think she probably experienced conversion and did have a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ, which was demonstrated by her actual behavior and works in her life. I would say she will rest in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Princess Alice is the reason why I don't believe accusations that Prince Philip is involved in Diana's death. He knows how it feels to loose a mum as a kid.
Diana said so herself that she and the Duke of Edinburgh have good relationship. He actually sided with Diana when Charles infidelity was first discovered.
He lost his sister and her entire family in a plane crash. He wouldn't take the mother of his grandchildren. The media needed someone to blame instead of looking squarely in the mirror.
Philip´s hatred of Camilla is a reason for me. He fought hard to keep Charles and Diana married, as letters between him and Diana attest. He even wrote at one point, that he thought Charles was sick in his head, because no man in his right mind would have left Diana for someone looking like Camilla. Diana revealed her + Philip had nicknamed Camilla ´´The Rottweiler´´. It was Philip that for years after Diana´s death that opposed Charles marrying Camilla and he didn´t want to be in the same place with her. He mellowed quite a lot with age and there was shock not only when he finally gave his blessing to the marriage, but when he attended the marriage blessing. His background made him a straight talking kind of guy, but he was a good man.
Being American, I'm not a huge follower of the RF. But I was deeply saddened for the Queen when Prince Phillip passed. Now I know the rest of the story. It's an amazing piece of history. I truly enjoyed her story. Thank you for sharing.
Can we please honour her memory without all that Netflix or hollywood nonsense? There are plenty of biographies and books written about her in the library. People these days need to READ more instead of relying on trashy social media and entertainment sites for information.
Why the obessesion with turning every respectable character into Netflix and Hollywood crap? Chances are none of those will stick to the true story. They will overdramatised, fictionalised, sensationalised everything to within an inch of their lives. I've seen big budget Hollywood production of historical figures, and all of them were grossly historically inaccurate. And all these misinformation were created to sell the movies, and misled too. Reading is better, but I guess nobody have time for that anymore. Everything have to be presented in an easily digestible way

Having been born deaf and having to find a way to communicate, serving on the front lines of war as a medic, then being exiled and losing everything it plausible knowing what we do now that this poor woman suffered from PTSD. It’s amazing she lived as long as she did with what the psychologists of the time subjected her to. Her life was remarkable and so very sad.
And like many other members of the royal family, Alice smoked like a chimney. QE II's father, grandfather and great grandfather all died of cancer due to smoking (as did her sister Princess Margaret).
Wow this was a incredible story. I had no idea. Poor Princess Alice. I can’t imagine being institutionalized because of her families intolerant views. I’m so happy she reconnected with Philip. A mother’s love is so strong.
An incredibly intelligent woman and quite brave! Philip got his courage from her as his father was a coward. I adore this woman! Masterpiece Theatre, get on it!
A tragic story. Princess Alice was so brave, she was a warrior, she was betrayed by all her family, her husband, She suffered so much. At the end she found her real calling on this Earth becoming a nun. Prince Phillip must have suffered a lot living most of his childhood, his teenage years without his mother. Rest in Peace, Princess Alice, and Prince Phillip, at last together in Eternity.
It’s amazing how history kind of repeats itself in families. Prince William and Harry lived without their mother, after she died, from childhood on and their father wasn’t much of a part of their lives, either. It’s amazing Prince Philip turned out to be the man he was. He must’ve been so lonely, growing up.
@@alan30189 I think you’d be disappointed to know just how involved then-Prince Charles (now King) was with his sons. After Diana died, Prince Charles assumed the role of primary caregiver, spending more time with them than apart, showing them affection (all the more poignant when you recognize he had no such hands on emotional parenting himself) and for an extended period he kept them secluded from the invasive media and other intrusive eyes looking to make money from their loss. Both sons have shared their feelings about their father, their gratitude for his protection, love and stability. But reality doesn’t make for the sexiest narrative so people embellish or wholesale invent drama, as you’ve proven here sharing uncorroborated, tabloid worthy tales.
@@fashiondiva6972 you’re absolutely right!!! people try to make charles out to be such a bad father based off of the whole him and camila affair and how he handled his marriage to diana which has nothing to do with his fathering. i have seen many interviews and documentaries stating what a loving father he is and always was since the birth of his boys.

i really sad about prince philip childhood day, to be seperated from his mother such a young age and was told by everyone that his mother was mad though not at all, how lonely he must be
I'm sad for Phillip, too. I had the same experience with my own children, who were taken from me. My family slandered my good reputation. My father used a Lazer to remotely stimulate my clitoris. Then my parents tried to force me to have sex with them, after they took my children from me. Then they falsely accused me of being insane. They are consumed by lust and jealousy. I do find it humorous now, because I did not know at that time that my family was spying on me through the power grid, which is exactly what the Nazi's secret police were doing to neighbors during WW2. When we all get to heaven, we will have a chance to tell our side of the story.
He was likely taught that she was mad and believed it due his young age and not knowing anything else. I personally understand how hard it is to have a mother with paranoid schizophrenia but she is nothing like the remarkable Princess Alice; she rather uses her mental condition to excuse her drug addicted, selfish, self serving shitty actions and appalling lack of any maternal instincts/behaviors, etc. I always liked Prince Philip but I have a new found respect for this remarkable man and his commendable mother who shows what a real Royal should be like.
What an extraordinary life she had. I’m so grateful that she seemed to find peace and acceptance for who she was at the end of her life. She is the epitome of perseverance and determination. I hope Phillip knows what an amazing mother he had.
Every time I see somebody posting a video of them helping the homeless I'm going to think about this video and Princess Alice cause this is the true definition of a humanitarian may she rest in peace and never be forgotten 💔🙏🏻😔❤
Incredible documentary! Princess Alice's story is truly inspiring-a life marked by resilience, bravery, and compassion. Amazing to see the journey of a woman who overcame so much and dedicated herself to helping others, even in the face of her own struggles.
What a tragedy, betrayed by her family. A noble woman who saved the lives of the of the Jewish underdog during the war! Quite a remarkable woman way ahead of her time. Bless the queen for taking her in when she did.
She was an incredible woman. Her faith spans beyond denominations. Just like Prince Philip said, to her it was completely natural to help a fellow human being. Nothing stopped her. Not her deafness, not her mental illness, not her family shunning her and not even the Nazi army could make Princess Alice budge. She truly did God's work, and not in the flowery, pretty way many people try and do it. She did it in the same way that Jesus did it. She could have had a rich, comfortable, lavish life and she gave all of it up to help people in need. Even if you don't believe God, you can still see an incredible woman who did what even the most devout people aren't often willing to do.
Yes. YeS! And YES!! I have never been interested in royalty or anything like it. I watched “The Crown” and learning about princess Alice sent down a rabbit hole. I love great stories. Especially today when everything is evil. Its hard to find good shows. A movie about this woman would be something worth watching. Those of us that admire this woman who maintains humility after all the trials shows what all Christians should do. It not tons of rules and buildings. Be a good person and help less fortunate always everyday every opportunity. Sometimes you have to get out and be around others to know where you are needed. God bless Princess Alice. I hope one day i will have funds to tell a great story like this instead of these made up stories they put on tv now. Good people are out there we just have to look. God bless everyone. Be generous to all. We never know others situation and we are not to judge either.
Yes ! There are good people out there! And yes! It does take looking for positive in people! When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change! Can you imagine the solitude of being deaf and dealing with so many changes in life and horrific shocks and changes and challenges! How lonely! Hormones do have much to do with balance and mental health! Consider how much body changes during pregnancy, then after childbirth! And then after nursing and every pregnancy is different a woman’s body also Carrie’s the DNA of our children in our body for years ! And then betrayal and abandonment! Of course, it transforms a person ! I have said watching my seven daughter , start their cycle and being pregnant and having children and then stop nursing, the changes some had endured , was rather emotional for some and others were just fine! And how they were with one child was different than others! I had two daughters whom had the period 2 - 3 weeks and 1 off! Before hormone therapy getting that balance was absolutely life changing for the better! I pushed it and pushed until I found a Dr that actually considered what I suspected might be true and referred someone who actually was hearing and able to help! What a difference! Princess Alice is an inspiration of the possibility of finding balance again!
Man it’s sad to see Prince Phillip kept from his mom until such time he felt he HAD to do something for her. Here she was trying to literally make the world a better place. She seems so open hearted so generous.
I need a freaking series of her life. I've been longing for it for years. Her royal highness has surpassed any blue blood then to our present unchangeable, thoughtless, and made true power moves for the sake of humanity. "What a Hero she was".
Why do you need a series ? History books, Wikipedia, this documentary are factual, not some romanticized, spiced up vehicle to make money and attract lazy viewers
She was a compassionate caring woman, she had a hard life, divorce, mental illness, exile. Philip grew up fast, made him stronger in character, he knew very well what a hard life was.
@kayt9576 From the internet, "According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Mental illness refers to “conditions that affect a person's thinking, feeling, mood, or behavior." So yes, depression is a mental illness, one that needs to be taken seriously. Also, I don't think they were talking about depression. Princess Alice had paranoid schizophrenia, which is also a mental illness.
What's even better are the many interesting books written about the Battenburg/Mountbatten branch of the family. Or any book regarding the descendants of Queen Victoria. Phillip was arguably more royal than Elizabeth!
She was one special woman. Not war, life difficulties and her own family would deter her. Her life began difficult and almost all her life she needed to prove something in order to belong, be accepted and be loved. I was about to say that she’s full of surprises… but that would not give her justice… she’s a woman of strength and puts herself fully in whatever she does. Deafness was considered a real deformity in those days. She was amazing in how she handled herself. Two of my kids were born profoundly deaf and are very educated, but didn't have to put up with the ideas of deafness prevalent in her day.
Unfortunately things have not changed much, not really. I know because I am going deaf, and by the way people treat me when I ask them to repeat themselves, I wish I had a T-Shirt that says "Hello, I am deaf... not stupid".
What about her son who served honorably in the Royal Navy under fire during wartime, and had a miserable childhood? What about her daughter-in-law who has faithfully served her country since 1953, and is generally well liked throughout the world and particularly the Commonwealth? Also consider, when Alice went back to Greece she was a poor former Princess of a defunct dynasty who was not recognized by Greece as anything but a commoner. That gives you a lot more freedom to be a saint when you have no spotlight and no duties imposed upon you. She deserves all the applause and affection in these comments, no doubt about it.

Would be nice if more attention was paid to her and she was celebrate! RIP Princess Alice💔
What was that big blotch under her eye?
Prince Philip's life was a miracle considering the chaos of his childhood. Now we understand where his character came from. What a great tribute to his amazing mother!
The chaos is what helped make him who he was.. a gentle, charming and funny man. I have always said..just because one is a royal..or famous and wealthy..does not mean life will be a gentle breeze. We all suffer tragedy and problems of every kind in life..they are no different. They also have the added burden of the press..paparazzi..no privacy ? Being followed everywhere you go. No thanks. I would rather be who I am..Joe public.

Greeks. Princess Alice is one of the very few royals the Greeks loved and respected.

I am so moved by her story. What strength she had to survive the torture of incarceration, mental illness and persecution and then give her all to people in need. Thank you so much for posting this
It's wonderful that Princess Anne wore Princess Alice's tiara in her wedding, honoring Prince Phillip.
I understand that Philip used diamonds from that tiara to have them used for the future Queen's engagement ring (which he designed), so I don't think Ann could have worn that tiara...
Anne wore the same tiara as her mother did in her wedding.
She should have been there not just her tiara. That was cruel.
@@kayt9576Princess Alice had died by then.

Not dead ela tá viva no Brasil!
@@mamahustru At the expense of his grandsons' happiness? I don't think so. If he has that criminal, he could've done it to Camilla coz that's easier.

Depression is not mental illness. You need to learn what is accurate, before making statements.
This is an amazing part of history. I'm so glad we know her story.
Wow! What an amazing women! Phillip never stopped loving his mom! He was her only son and made certain she was with him no matter what!
Hello how are you doing 😊😊😊
Hello beautiful 👋💕
I hope you are doing very alright?
yet we only hear 👂 of that now
Bless Her Heart!!! A lot of her problem was her sorry husband. Yes she does deserve a book & a movie about her!!! She was AWESOME!!!
Rest in peace princess alice. Sorry you had to deal with a bunch of nut cases
Wonderful woman! Born of royalty, but lived her life in service to the sick, injured, orphaned, and poor. A true disciple of Christ.
When all the while, SHE was the sane one!!!!! God bless this saintly woman!!!!❤🙏☦
@AndreaLuise Ca. she was Prince Philip's mother, Prince Charles' grandmother.
As the saying goes, “Those who dance are considered insane by those who can’t hear the music”.
@@paololuckyluke2854 excellent point!!!
Princess Alice’s life should be a movie. ❤️
The story between her and Prince Philip was heartbreaking… but they were so similar in many ways including the looks! Thanks for sharing her story…
Imagine today's royals doing what this amazing woman did? Sacrificing jewelry and designer clothing to help others? Yeah right!
What a courageous and remarkable woman. I love watching these they were never taught in school. Thank You 🇺🇸
Phillip brought his mother home to Buckingham palace, what a kind son
yes ., he was not ashamed of his mother’s disabilities or unfortunate life journey
I always thought Phillip looked and acted nobly.
His mother is also descendant of Queen Victoria of England so she has also right.
@@margaritaalajar7366 a right that her own mother wouldn't give her as she wanted to hide her in a mental asylum. Only Price Philip and the Queen wanted her around.
In all the photos of the Prince's mother, ....it was the latter pics in which she looked the most radiant and natural.
I am humbled by this woman. Truly.
Princess’ Alice life was so sad from the moment her family put her in the hospital. However, in the end it brought her to live a very fulfilling life. For Prince Phillip as well!
Beautiful film! As a tour Guide in Jerusalem, I often visit Princess Alice's grave.
I Would be glad to take you there in any tour of the Holy City.
would you happen to know what is written on her tomb in greek - I'm not sure of the auto translations. Thank you
@@pamrogers5979 in Greek it is "Γενηθήτω τό θέλημά σου"- Let your will be done. Matthew 6:10 The last sentence of the Lord's prayer.
@@davidsteinbergtourguide thank you so much :)
Yes please on my bucket list
🦚What a blessing for you to know that you are able to offer prayers for such a beautiful soul. She saved soldiers, hungry folks and orphans and especially the Jewish family !! Amazing ! I am thinking of how she was joined by her son, Phillip today ! Blessings from California. 🦚
Wow, she was such an inspiration. She didn't give up her faith/belief, she actually carried the Cross of Jesus Christ.
She was lover of Christ Jesus...she was misunderstood then maybe because the awareness of Christ love was low at that time...so they called it 'a romantic frustration'
@@delighttunes2798 I don’t think awareness of spiritual love was at an all time low. I think you can believe the family when they say she believed she was having intercourse with Jesus and his buddies. Families don’t tend to make that stuff up I think they were discreet in not going into the details of her behavior.
Now ,this is a woman I truly admire. God bless her and her memory.
Beautiful lady! She must be with God! That's a real Christian!
She had such obstacles to overcome and did it beautifully.
Hello how are you doing 😊 😊😊
Hello beautiful Angela👋💕
I hope you are doing very alright?
How amazing she was..still is. A beautiful misunderstood soul..but she stood steadfast. Remarkable!
@@gabrielabieri5937 I surely believe you.
Maybe deafness and religious delusions are the result of Royal inbreeding.
This film about an little known princess actually brought tears to my eyes
Hello beautiful 👋💕
I hope you are doing very alright?
I cant stop crying
So much courage and service despite life long pain and adversity. Princess Alice may she RIP
"She was 93 when she gave this interview"
They build them tough, in the Royal Family!
Born in 1885... made her 82 in 1967
BORN IN ROYALTY AND WAS A LIVING ANGEL SHE DESERVES TO BE BORN IN ROYALTY FOR MILLIONS OF LIFE TIMES... SHE'S A TRUE ANGEL
Seems to me, that this lady was the only royal worth a damn.
She deserves all the applause and affection in these comments, no doubt about it.
she was brave as hell, and she was a godsend. She really loved her son.
Absolutely amazing story, I could not believe, such a valiant woman, in the world of queens and kings, I just can not believe it.
Such a beautiful soul she was.
