    4:40 is one of the best tips I've seen. Just that one bit of logic has so many applications 😱 awesome, thanks!
    Edit: actually this whole video is amazing and incredibly useful. Thanks!

    Can you also make a logic so that distant object become less detail to save thermo ?

    • @JimmyJules153
      @JimmyJules153  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You won’t save any thermo, but it might save a very small amount of performance. If an object is in the scene it’ll always take up the same amount of thermo :)

    Thanks for another helpful video. The section about character selection was very helpful. I have a couple of questions. I have not played your game, do you have a separate character select screen? I'm trying to implement a character select screen and have that selection be carried through all of the scenes for a multiplayer game. Is it necessary to have a character emitter for every possible character in every scene and then use your method to save thermo by destroying the others?

    • @JimmyJules153
      @JimmyJules153  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do have a separate character screen for that one yes - it's not always necessary to have an emitter emitting the characters, but if you want more than one player to be able to choose the same character then yes it will be necessary or you'll need to have duplicates of your characters which would take up a lot of thermo.
      You don't need to destroy the unused characters either, but it's definitely a good way to make the game run a bit quicker if you're getting close to it being full :)
      hope that helps

    Is there a simple way to make collectable objects with that destroyer gadget? I dont wanna make special effects, collecting sounds etc. I just wanna turn something - that I created - into my own collectable object.

  • @DihStyle69
    @DihStyle69 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    thanks for the video but i'm not understanding one thing. this method only decreases gameplay? what about the graphics? i'm currently paying a tribute to a game you might know called antichamber and i want the game to last for a while, so i am putting trigger zones for parts of the map the player won't see anymore but only the gameplay goes down. isn't there a way to make the graphics' thermo go down too? the game will probably show problems when it goes higher than 100%.

    • @JimmyJules153
      @JimmyJules153  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. There’s no way I’ve found to decrease the graphics thermometer during gameplay but even if you could, I’m not sure it would make much/any difference to the frames per second.
      You need the object to be in the scene in the first place, so it’d be taking up that amount of thermometer either way and you can’t save a level that’s over 100% thermo. If you use cloned objects it doesn’t count towards your graphics thermo, only the gameplay thermo so that’s a great way to get more longevity out of your levels without maxing out the graphics thermo.
      If you make a single varied sculpt, you can flip it around and get lots of different looking things out of it, that way it only takes up one sculpt worth of graphics thermo and uses more gameplay thermometer instead.
      Lucid stew has a great video out explaining the balancing of graphics/gameplay thermo:
      th-cam.com/video/-Tkt80MQWl8/w-d-xo.html
      Hope that helps, let me know if you have more questions :)

      @@JimmyJules153 thanks a lot!
      this is actually very helpful as i do have 5 or 6 things that are wasting my thermo and can simply be replaced by tweaked cloned stuff.
      well, seems like i will have to play with that and maybe link the current level to others. i will have to be clever for the use of loading screens, i don't want to break immersion. let's see if i can come up with good ideas!
      thanks again for the help and i will watch that video for more info 🙂 have a nice day 👍

    Can I destroy a microchip that is not attached to anything? Not working for me. I was wondering if I needed to have the microchip on a sculpture

    • @JimmyJules153
      @JimmyJules153  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No I don’t believe that you can, but there might be a way I haven’t found. You need to have it stamped to an object as far as I know :)

    • @proceduralgames

    Would this be applicable to an open world environment? It’s kind of difficult to gauge how far someone would need to be from the destroyed sculptures to where they can’t see that it’s gone so it’s a seamless transition when traveling through the world.

    • @JimmyJules153
      @JimmyJules153  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could use it for open world games but I think you’d run into gameplay thermo issues still. You’d probably be better off splitting up the world into different scenes so you can get lots of detail in each area :)

    These tutorials are super helpful! Is it possible to link a character select screen to the next dream and have the character choice be persistent? If so how?

    • @JimmyJules153
      @JimmyJules153  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brandon M. It sure is! You can use a variable for that, you just need to set it to ‘persist in dream’ and it’ll save the value across scenes :) I’ve done a vid on the variables too if you’re keen

    So I want to use the destroyer to get rid of parts of the level that my character isn't in, but I also want my character to come back to those parts of the level. Is there a way I can have it so, when the character is in the area the level is there, when the character is not detected it's destroyed, and when the character comes back the area comes back. I'm currently creating trigger zones in tunnels so that the player doesn't see it happening.

    • @JimmyJules153
      @JimmyJules153  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, it'll probably be more logic to get going than it's worth. the engine takes care of things that aren't on the screen by not drawing them anyway, so it kind of does this for you. Unless you're using the same floor asset it'll almost certainly be more expensive to set up with a destroyer/emitter than it'll be worth :/

    I wouldn't recommend using glitches in Dreams. They're going to be patched out and anything that's used them will not work.

    • @JimmyJules153
      @JimmyJules153  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I could be wrong, but I definitely don’t think this is a glitch. Currently the ‘affected object’ output can’t be plugged into anything that I’ve found, why else would they have that output there if it’s not to be used?

    • @GribbleGrunger
      @GribbleGrunger 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could be right but I don't think it's worth risking it until you're sure. Perhaps contact MM on Twitter just to clarify?
