    Taking delivery of our Model Y next Monday. So glad that ours will have stalks!
    I’m really hoping that, after owning it for a while, we’ll begin to understand why owners apparently _actually like_ Tesla removing valuable features like radar and ultrasonic sensors, and tactile-feel controls like stalks, apparently just to save a few bucks. Radar and ultrasonic sensors work in the dark and fog, unlike a vision-based system, so that’s a basic loss of function.
    Even functionality aside, as with 19-22-inch wheels, I don’t see that any of this even _looks_ better. And don’t get me started on the yoke instead of a normal steering wheel: It’s an almost-entirely-disadvantageous solution to a complete non-problem.
    Seriously, please feel free to explain to me why this all is supposedly an improvement, other than for cost-reduction. The only possible benefit I’ve seen so far, specifically for cramming all controls and displays onto a complex, multilayered touchscreen interface, is that not having a binnacle in front of me may be a little less distracting.
    Still, yes, I agree that it’s the best EV, and best car for the money (at the current low price), so no regrets. That’s why we bought one! Plus, yes, from driving a PHEV since 2017, the concept of burning crap to go places grosses me out. Nevertheless, why do Tesla fans keep putting these functionality losses into the + column of their spreadsheets?

    • @UKDagnar
      @UKDagnar 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@mr88cet 🤣 I suppose we put them in the + column because we've lived with them and realised they aren't the negative that some people assume they are who have never tried them. Enlightenment over ignorance I suppose. Seriously if you lived with the new gen model 3 for more than 3 or 4 weeks you wouldn't be as closed minded. You just need to try it rather than justifying why change is always bad.

      But there are small flaws. I miss my turn signal stock. I got used to the buttons going straight fairly quickly, but as soon as I go backwards my brain cant translate which button I have to press, especially while turning the wheel.
      Glove compartment is also really small, even smaller than in the previous version. Looking at the leak of the back i have some speculative thoughts. The picture really does not seem to suggest the same tail lights as with the highland. I actually think they might try to remove the tail lights and leave just the light bar. This way you have 2 less parts of the car and the lightbar can do the same job assuming it uses rgba leds. This simplifies the construction significantly and eliminates the need for tail lights. The clear part below the lighbar might be reverse lights, as the lightbar might not be bright enough or they might be required by law. Either way i do exepct some suprises :)

    very very very interesting!! thanks for the numbers!!
    I had no idea it would take soooo little power at highway cruising speeds.
    ABSOLUTLEY, the low power hub motor in back is the way to go!!
    a point most don't realize is : when passing a slow moving truck on a two lane highway,, I've found the quicker you can get around them the better in terms of safety. the time it takes to go from 50 to say 80 is critical in these circumstances, in the original hub motor design , I've wondered if the rpm limited hub motor design if this would be a limiting factor? but with a 138mph top end I'd imagine this wouldn't be an issue. in my recently acquired TESLA model Y I was surprised at just how QUICKLY I could pass slow moving trucks in these circumstances,,,, even more so uphill,, having this extra acceleration in the upper speed range has made me feel CONSIDERABLY safer driving on highways ( which I do ALOT).
    for point of reference : the power to weight ratio of APTERA with the vitesco FWD is approx. the same as a AWD LR MODEL Y.
    MAYBE future APTERA variants can include a high power rear hub motor for those who want INSANE acceleration???

    I think the “depreciation” is due to two factors. 1) a reversal of the supply:demand relationship. My model 3 had “depreciated” 0$ in 2 years because supply was short and demand was unmet. Now it has “depreciated” because supply outstrips demand and prices have been dropped. I can now go buy a much better model 3 for a lot less than I paid in 2020(also in 2020 dollars that were more valuable).
    2) IRA is working. 7500 rebate for most ppl makes the car automatically worth 7500$ less when you drive off the lot. No one is going to give you full price for a 1 day old car when they can buy one and get the rebate.
    So I find it disingenuous to say “EVs are depreciating so fast…” when the truth is the market and regulatory conditions have drastically changed. The cars still have very high intrinsic value and at current prices are a “hodl” unless you just gotta have that new Tesla…

      50,000 miles in my 22 Y LR and I’m yet to experience any “phantom braking”, any issue with the wipers, and my app/phone always reliably connects with the car.
      No idea what you drive, but it doesn’t sound like a Y to me.

      @@edwardhackett-jones8126I think it's more a question of where you drive than what. I have a M3 lr in Europe, bought FSD and have seen autopilot features and effectiveness gradually reduced over the years. The wipers turn on every time you drive under trees and the car often slows inexplicably in autopilot due to mapping inaccuracies and a lack of development. Frustrating

      The 'half filled' battery pack theory proved incorrect. There is only a small amount of extra space in the battery apparently needed to control pressure changes during operation. Maybe more range will be available when the improved 4680 cell is incorporated into production models

    Tesla needs to have FSD with out expiration on the car, but then give 15 years to transfer to as many cars as possible. Then charge a renewal after 15 years. This way if you have purchased fsd you can use it on any other Tesla, like rentals, or if you purchase another car.

    • @edwardhackett-jones8126
      @edwardhackett-jones8126 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      How’s Lucid performing as a company? There’s your answer.
      Anyone can manufacture almost any vehicle if profitability is not the aspiration. Losing money like that is not an option and never has been for Tesla.
      Such a range isn’t needed anyway. Given that most people only drive about 20 miles per day (yes I know it’s a little higher in the USA…), and that anyone doing a road trip will need a break themselves before the car needs charging, so it can be charging while they take their break, what’s the point of that extra range?
      As to the Cybertruck - it has sufficient range for the vast majority of use cases, and with the kinds of software updates they’ve made in the past they will improve charging speeds and possibly the range too. The battery pack is clearly not anticipated to be a widely used option - it will suit a narrow range of drivers. Future Cybertrucks may come with more range as a consequence of the 4680 cells progressing in terms of energy density.

    Rather than faffing around with silly colored lights and minimal styling changes, how about fixing some longstanding issues like unreadable light grey text on glaring white bacgrounds, impossible small text, moving stuff around the UI for no reason, finishing the voice commands?. Replacing beeps and boops with voice promps, and leaving warning messages on the screen until acknowledged?
    Not everyone has 21 year old eyes with 20/20 acuity and no macral degeneration.
    But no, silly unneeded games, making fart noises and vaporware which does nothing but raise anxiety about what stupid move the car willl next make is more important somehow.

    Can anyone tell me difference between enhanced autopilot and what comes standard on all Toyotas since 2019. My base rav4 detects vehicle in front at adjustable distance. Reads speed signs. Notifys if car in front slams on breaks. Will steer on a clearly marked road. Will slow down with traffic and speed back up keeping safe adjusted distance. Ie drive in traffic.
    If Toyota and presumably other car makers offer this. How much better is enhanced autopilot and why are they charging for it.

    Yes, this creates 17 variations out of just four trims and increases complexity and cost, but this is really what consumers want. Variety and choice. With the recent addition of Model 3, LR RWD, this opens up plenty of shorter routes for me where I don't need to charge on my journey, potentially shaving off as much as 30 mins off my time, and also it enables me to be able to skip out on V2 superchargers on some trips west, so I can charge significantly faster.
    I have a new Model 3, LR RWD on order and hoping to get it before our big end of summer road trip, as it is a car that actually has enough space for me, wife, two kids and a small dog, and actually enough storage space for all of our luggage.
