    What I'd like to see in battery cells is lower expense, higher capacity, and charge speed (in that order). If they can drop the cost for kwh/kg it will only help profitability for them, and make it obvious that charge anxiety becomes a memory, increasing speed of charging while not a real problem even for trips (for me, I don't drive more than 3 hours without a rest stop).

    I received an email a little over 4 months ago telling me I could Configure My Cybertruck. I got in line 5 years ago! I got an OVER THE AIR UPDATE to FSD last week and am starting to learn what it can do (and not do). Unfortunately my other vehicles are no longer fun to drive. I’m keeping the Miata but I’ve got a 2002 GMC DURAMAX Crew Cab 4X4. Less than 1,000 miles on the tires, new high pressure injector pump. Both sides of the front end replaced W/In the last couple thousand miles.I’ve owned it for 20 years and have had a “Lifetime Oil Change” contract and have changed the oil @ least 4 times per year. 220,000 miles.
    It’s been a good truck! No Major Issues.

    I hope at some point in the future a refresh of the Cybertruck will be better aligned with the MX and MS. A center screen in addition to the main display would be very helpful. The main display would benefit from being able to pivot and of course automatic opening and closing of the front doors would be ideal. For people like me with physical disability I can no longer twist my torso due to a four level back fusion making closing the door difficult...not impossible but very difficult at times. Upgrading the seats and interior options like my MX with fiber carbon makes a huge difference. Less plastic with use of more durable materials would increase the reliability and less breakage.

    There are four new versions of the 4680 cell that will use the dry cathode: NC05, NC20, NC30 and NC50 (NC means new cell). The NC05 will reportedly power the Robotaxi. According to the outlet, the cell won't be ready for production till 2026, which means we're still far off from the Robotaxi's commercial deployment.
    The more energy-dense NC20 will power an electric SUV, the Cybertruck, and potentially other future EVs.
    The NC30 and NC50 will introduce silicon carbon anodes. In a battery, the anode is the positive electrode. According to some studies, if it's made using silicon carbon, it can apparently hold more lithium, thus improving range and charging speeds. The NC30 will apparently be installed in a future sedan and Cybertruck, whereas the NC50 will go into performance versions.

      @@johnmurdoch6696 The previous car was an AMG V8 Mercedes, so it required Premium grade gasoline, but I never obsessed about the BRAND as long as it was the highest octane rating. The battery chemistry is irrelevant to me as long as the car performs as expected, and the battery outlasts the rest of the physical car.

    • @pindot787
      @pindot787 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      They can always make one down the road, it is precisely because elon has some fantasy that things like landing rocket in chopstick become reality. playing it too safe and you will have another rivian.

    • @jamesbracken6751
      @jamesbracken6751 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pindot787 i agree about spacex landing on the tower lowers the cost of the flight by not requiring the weight of landing gear. Making a truck that cannot tow as far as a conventional truck is not an added benefit. Having sharp angles and no door handles is a safety issue if your hit or trapped in the vehicle during an accident. Making the body out of stainless steel attracts fingerprints . The cover over the bed is cool and useful but blocks your rearview mirror. Yeah you have a camera but thats not as good as your eyes. They should have made a more conventional pickup truck first to get market share and win over truck drivers to ev trucks. Rivian is more of a sport suv. They could have easily redesigned the model x body and added the cyberteucks 4 wheel steering to take that market

    I believe Powerwall uses LFP (Lithium Iron) since weight doesn't matter and they're more durable/more cycles (definitely what Megapack uses). I think Tesla Energy is using all they can get/make of these which is why they're not currently in cars. Also I'm not sure they suffer as much penalty if they happen to come from China with Powerwall/Megapack as they do with losing the subsidy for cars.

This really scares me. Longer range, 300 miles EPA gets me 200 or less on the freeway @ 75 mph. I have tried calculating mileage across Idaho/Utah/Nevada/Texas. I need a minimum of 400 miles of range at 75 mph....after derating or a lot more DC charging in rural areas. These would allow me sacrifice charging time for an EV. We don’t really know, do we, whether or not Tesla is doing research on “ solid state” batteries. If they believe that solid state is the future I would be gobsmacked if they would be ignoring the subject. It could well be that they are simply letting others do the difficult (and possibly impossible) job of demonstrating that solid state is achievable and an economically viable solution. I wouldn’t bet against Elon on this.

    Ryan, you might want to broaden your coverage to other brands and focus more of 6:09 the TECH part of your channel name. Frankly Musk has put me off Tesla and I'm sure I am not alone. I think you do a great job of explaining things and would like to know more about what other EV brands are doing. As interesting as Tesla is, other companies are making great advancements and I think many would like to know more.

    I will be VERY surprised if the final RoboTaxi does NOT have the NACS plug port installed. If only there as a backup most of the time. 60,000 Tesla chargers is very impressive, but none of those stations are currently wireless. Meaning that Tesla's inductive charging network does not yet exist at all. Zero. And having no way to Supercharge quickly on the fly, as needed, would be a big mistake (which I don't think that Tesla will make) for RoboTaxis going longer distances, or needing fast turnaround, like requiring back to back charging with no time for breaks, i.e. during surge demands.
