- I am a gastric bypass post-op patient who also happens to be a primary health care provider. After many years talking to and treating patients on their own weight loss surgery journeys, I decided to have surgery myself. On my channel I discuss my own challenges, successes and updates regarding the process.
Thank you Kaki, I appreciate this video! I had RNY 11 months ago, but had to have emergency bowel resection two months ago in the middle of the night for a "strangulated" bowel. Very painful and scary. The one thing they did tell me is that I was very dehydrated and I knew I had been constipated for days. I appreciate the helpful tips you gave and your mic is working great!
I can't imagine how scary that must have been for you! I hope that you are doing well now. People do not realize how serious this can be.
Hi Kaki and thank you for this video! I’m currently 7 weeks post op from my gastric sleeve and dealing with some constipation issues. As you say it’s hard to get the water amount in daily and then work my soft food meals around that. I’m going to make a point of looking for the higher fibre vegetables like you say and see if it helps. I’m still less active than I was at the moment and your explanations makes sense to me about that. It would be great if you had chance to do a video on how you managed to get the 64oz of fluids in, especially in the early stages as that’s what I’m struggling with no matter how much I focus on it every day😬. Best wishes from across the pond 💜🇬🇧
Congrats on your surgery and hopefully the info in the video does help. I will add that to my video list- thanks for the suggestion!
I can hear you loud and clear ❤I had the sleeve on 7/8/24. Enjoy your videos. So far my bowels are working fine.
Haha- congrats on your surgery and good luck with your new and hopefully healthier future!
Thank you for the information. It has been a big concern of mine as I suffer from constipation now and will be having my surgery in 2 months. I'm already under Dr.'s care for it but will probably need to revisit my gastroenterologist after the procedure. I love your videos and have gained a wealth of information. 😊
Thank you so much! Good idea to keep your gastro in mind after your surgery!
I had a revision to gastric bypass on 7/2/2024. I will incorporate the stool softener. Some days are good, then I feel like I am trying to push a barn out my bum. It can be sooo painful. I do the water, but was going to ask my nutritionist if our calcium supplements can cause constipation. Thanks for answering that. I might change to a different calcium supplement. Thanks for the tips.
I am glad that you found the video helpful!
Thank you Kaki. I drink water, take 2 senna tablets twice a day, take colace 500mg twice a day, and added Benefiber. I keep gloves and lubricant next to the toilet because it gets stuck in there. So frustrating.
Ugh. People who have never dealt with this have no clue! Have you talked to your doctor about any kind of prescription like Linzess or Amitiza?
hi kaki - thanks for the video - i don't think this problem will ever go away...i've almost gotten into a daily routine but it's always painful. the stool collects at the base of the anus and forms a big, hard, lumpy ball, i mean really round shaped, which is virtually impossible to expel, and then followed by the 'normal' stool. this happens daily. and yes, i find i have to use fingers to help it along...sigh.
i have written to you about my probs - which are still on going. i've told you about my team seemingly loosing interest in my case - on-going nausea with food and water, still, at 11 months post-op. you suggested seeing a gastro - i asked my team for a referral - which took *forever* for them to respond to - but when they finally did, i find that it is 3 months before i can get an appt. so no on that for now. meanwhile, my year post-op check up is 8 oct (yay! a year!), at which point i do believe i will lay into my surgeon/team and tell them that i think the post-op care they provide is seriously lacking for me. this may have to do with the fact that i live 4 hours away from my doctors - so i can't just drop in and complain. this is still so very frustrating. still, i am making a bit of progress - i had my first bowl of oatmeal for b'fast the other day and managed to finish it. but then last night, i tried to eat some salmon, and here comes the nausea. and no, i have never been able to get 64 oz of fluid in - still.... so.over.this. thanks for listening. libby
I am sorry that you are still going through so much! I don't blame you for feeling like you have been abandoned by your bariatric team- that is ridiculous!
