Just a quick tip, if you i - ELOOP function isn’t working when you stop at traffic lights check if the “engine” symbol isn’t glowing blue like the “AC” and “battery” symbol on the display. If it isn’t blue then the car is undergoing an active regen to clean out the DPF filter, don’t turn the engine off during the cycle as repeated in/off introduces diesel into the oil to “fast track” the dpf cycle. I find it best to do 5 minutes on motorway or B road and keeping revs around 2500 will quickly complete the regen process. Hope this helps.

Owned the 2016 2.2d for around 3 years. It's been great overall. My only really dislike the istop feature. I turn it off at the start of every trip, but I've read that it can be permanently turned off by disconnecting a sensor near the bonnet catch (plan on trying that soon)
    Only 2 other minor issues:
1: trunk lock catch failed while driving, forcing me drive home with an open trunk (luckily I was 5 mins from home when this occurred .. New part was 100quid from Mazda, fitted it myself (simple: just 4 bolts and 1 connector)
2: Navigation screen keeps restarting in cold weather.
Other than that, it's been great.
I service it myself every 6 months, as Mazda's main dealer servicing costs are crazy...

I have most of these problems but here are some extra ones:
    - Car (warning/full) breaks kicking in for no reason, this happened to me multiple times and almost got me into an accident
    - You can't increase the speed alarm/High speed alert (it's a feature in other cars)
    - You can't lock the car while it's on and it keeps making a beeping noise if you leave the car with the keys
    - The street speed sign is usually wrong

Yes me too! I have a mazda 2020 and have already experienced several of these issues! Whereas I had a 2000 Acura that outlived me. Lololol, and in comparison, my Acura never gave me problems in the early years in fact not until late in its lifetime.

Great vid Jake. I have recently (April) took delivery of a 2018 Sport Nav+ - in the lovely soul red crystal paint - and love it. Like you, I bought it for the gadgets and so far, I have had no issues although it’s only done 19,000 miles so relatively new. A lot of the door and locking problems relate to the key fob battery and the first thing I would do is change the battery and get a load of spare batteries, they’re dead cheap. CR2025 I believe. Fuel economy is terrific at over 45 MPG…terrific compared to my previous 3.5L V6 Honda that did less than 20 MPG. The reversing camera is fine…just about…not sure you need 4K quality just to see where the kerb is. The radar module is behind the Mazda logo on the front grille, the laser and front facing camera are above the rear view mirror so these areas needs to be kept clean. Mine is having its third service at Mazda in a weeks time and it’s first MOT and Mazda dealers are good at discounting some things if you have the car serviced with them. I think too having a main dealer service history is far more attractive to a buyer when you come to move it on. Anyway, keep us informed and Happy Motoring.

I have had my 2016 Mazda 6 for almost a year, and I relate to 90% of these annoyances. Another annoyance is that when it's cold, I want to start my car and go back inside. The thing that is super frustrating, is that if the car is on, you can't lock it unless you drive it. It won't lock if you have the keys with you and you try to lock it if it's on. So you are forced to leave your car unlocked if it's on and you walk away. BIGGEST frustration during the winter.

Dr. Jake, I would check to see if any of these problems have recall solutions, i.e. has Mazda issued a recall? I agree with you, the scrolling effect of the back up camera is bad. The start-stop problem sometimes has to do with the power drain of other resources currently in use. (At least that's the excuse Jag gives in the XF manual, i.e. don't expect this to be fool-proof. I can tell you mine went into a coma after I turned it off and then randomly I was able to be reactivate it.) As for the GPS updating extremely slowly, when you hit a round-about, it could be fun and funny, if you just went around 2 or more times while waiting for it to catch up with you and tell you where to turn off and just laugh as you do it. Keep up the good work! I'm hopeful the 6 will become rear-wheel drive and a v6 as the rumors go. The CX3 was axed but replaced with a CX30 so, if we're lucky, it'll come back as I said but be renumbered 60. 🤔🤔🤔🤔

    • @LostWithoutHer
      @LostWithoutHer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@faizanmunshi First of all, I'd say, didn't you take it on a highway during the test drive? or, if you did, was the salesperson with you particularly chatty and you didn't hear it then? If the sound developed over time or is in any way new, it's something that needs repair. Here in the U.S., there are Lemon laws that protect consumers and watchdog groups that are on the consumer's side. I'm not sure how much consumer support is available in other countries. Your other way of finding out, besides research, is to rent a 2022 Mazda 6 or maybe two, drive them around a few days and see if they sound like yours. If they don't, you probably have a problem and you've done your due diligence. Good luck, buddy.

For my Mazda 6, the auto-lock feature is hyper-aggressive. If I get out of the car and want to walk around to the other side (like to open the passenger door or the back door) it will lock itself again. Basically, the moment the driver door shuts, it locks. So I'm having to use the key fob if I want to open any other door. How about giving me some time to at least react? You can still lock automatically, but maybe give us a second or 2 to still be able to open the other doors?

Many of your key and locking issues could well be due to a flat battery in the key fob. Either that or you need the key reset as they can go out of sync with the car so the codes don't match.

The problem with the door not opening when you press the button and locking when leaving the car seems to be low battery. Also the locking function is using a proximity sensor wich is kinda slow somtimes. So if you close the door and move "fast" from the car, the car wont detect the key when you leave. So you have to leave the car slower and listen for the beep. Number 5 start stop. The engine cant be to cold and the iloop system must be charged. Also if you run much heat or Cooling the engine wont switch off. I like that i need to press alittle harder on the brake to make it stop, for me its very easy to control. But thats personal taste.
Number 4. The dealer told me in winters/cold days you should run fans on manual so that the sensor wont fog up. It could also be the sensor in the grill, them you need to clean the car.

Two of your issues are the same problem. Holding the the internal handle open and the clicking and the unlocking by touching the door. If folding mirrors are fitted they will also open at odd times. The driver door lock module needs replacing. I had one In year 2 and have just had another one in year 4, both under warranty (I extended the warranty). The radar error message is condensation over the camera up by the rear view mirror. I only see that in the winter but full windscreen defrost will remove the condensation and error message. The rest are your car specific. I’ve had two a 63 plate and 17 and have never seen the other issues you mention. The new Mazda 3 courtesy car I recently drove had a much better rear camera so Mazda might have improved those on newer 6 models? I too do not want an SUV and the 6 has been brilliant so hopefully something suitable will arrive from Mazda?

I've got a late 2013 version of the saloon with 93500 miles on it which makes mine the pre-pre-facelift Mazda6. It's interesting to see that the same gremlings persist in newer cars whilst new ones have also been introduced with their updates over time as well.
Your reversing camera problem: I don't get this problem exactly like you do, however it does randomly occur in hotter weather more often than in cooler weather. With mine it's as if the cable running from the camera to the infotainment system is not plugged in fully - resulting in a dim/unstable image being displayed. It's odd that they didn't improve the resolution throughout the multiple refreshes.
Issues with the rear seats: Yes! These rear seats are a right pain the in arse. Be careful when slamming these back in to position. What will inevitably happen is that the fabric on the backside of the rear seats will shift around, resulting in the fabric getting caught in the latching mechanism. Next time you attempt to pull the latch from within the boot it simply wont work and you'll end up having to get a screwdriver down the back of the seats to try and pry the fabric out from the latching mechanism. Before putting the seats back - just be sure the fabric isn't starting to warp or shift around that U-shaped metal catch. Also, isn't it annoying that there's seemingly nowhere to put the middle seat seatbelt when you want to put the rear seats down?
The door locking/unlocking in general: You mentioned some of this in your previous video. Sometimes I'm not sure if I've just unlocked or locked my car when I press the button on the door. The car doesn't recognise that I'm walking away from my car at the best of times whereas sometimes it'll lock the car when I'm a few CM's away from it! What a nuisance when I've gone from one side of the car to the other and I've got my hands full of heavy items that I'm trying to plop in to the passenger side or something.
Related to the above: The battery in the key fobs do not last long at all. I'll replace the battery in my keys and within a couple of months of not even regular use I may get the message on the dash telling me 'key battery low'. Not a very sustainable solution really.
The speaker system: You mentioned this in one of your previous videos. The speaker in the driver side door seems to start disorting or reverberating on random days when there's even just the hint of bass being fed through them. I've resorted to turning down the bass level to almost minimum to mitigate this but the issue still comes and goes. Why is it seemingly just this door's speaker that people are complaining about more often than not?
Windscreen wiper system: Surprised they never sorted this out in later cars.
Start-stop: Again, surprised they never sorted this out in later cars.
Some issues I've not heard mentioned often that I have noticed from time to time:
    - I'll park the car up at the end of my journey, shift in to P, turn the engine off and then the car complains that I've not shifted in to P?
    - Performing a full left or right steering-lock maneuver at low-mid speeds sometimes results in a rythmic clicking coming from the steering column or suspension which is seemingly in time with the speed at which I'm going.
    - If a cobweb or leaf happens to have blown and stuck to one of the parking sensors, the parking system goes in to crazy beepy mode when activated.
    - The paintwork scratches so easily! This is quite a wide car so it's difficult to avoid those prickly bushes when having to bypass oncoming vehicles on those twisty B-roads.
    - The chrome pieces dotted around the car seem to be gaining some tiny rust spots.
    - Why did they make this generation Mazda6 a saloon/tourer only? Where is the hatchback?

The auto stop/start function will only operate if there is sufficient charge in the battery something like 75% min. As for the engine shutting off when you don't want it to have you not got an override button that disables it. My car does and I often use it at a particular roundabout near where I live as it is very busy and more often than not a quick pull off is required so I don't want the engine to shut of for that.

E-stop has put me in some dangerous situations; Bluetooth switches to AM sometimes on restart causing high volume hiss; seat fabric difficult to clean; forced regen (to mitigate faults on earlier engines) every 200 miles regardless of need which saps fuel even though I do mottorwat driving and it's not required; regen at the end of a drive without notification meaning you can easily switch engine off during the cycle, sending diesel into the oil; coming home lights don't work unless headlights in manual... why?! Paint wafer thin, no primer used (mazda are proud of that fact) Otherwise, I love it! Comment about servicing: Mazda give generous goodwill contributions to repairs out of warranty, providing you've had it serviced at Mazda. I've had two expensive repairs paid for by Mazda at 4 and 5 years, so factor that into the cost of a genuine service and it negates any extended third party warranty cover

Hufflepuff, you make me hungry for cake. Get rid of the Mazda 6, and go with the 2010-ish Lincoln MKZ. They share an engine and many of the same specs, but with less issues (aside from a few factory necessary upgrades so the airbags don't blow your head off). Your Mazda 6 is probably a much later model, hence the issues. In all fairness, you're pretty awesome, but you need a better choice in cars. Alfa Romeo seems to be rocking balls. Why not try them out instead? Cheers from Texas!

Mazda 2016 GT Owner (US versions 2.5L, without start-stop). Somehow I only get issue n2 (the annoying UI load time). I have not tested the auto-lock but I suspect it behaves in the same way. The one thing I hate about the car are the noisy 19 inch low profile tires that are super rough and noisy. Once worn out I fitted premium tires with more "meat" (Continental ExtremeContact 245/45/19, yes they are within manufacturer tolerance for the rims and speedo)and the car is much quieter and ride is smooth (more like the new Mazda 3). Car is going strong, not a single issue in 6 years.

The answer is to buy a Honda or Toyota quality control is far superior compared to Mazda especially with Ford owning one third. It took me a long time to learn that but it is worth paying more $$$ for Honda or Toyota cars their engineers / factory operatives live night and day the whole year round for improving the production quality whilst the competitors workforce can't wait to get out the door for 🍻, etc

Ford hasn't had anything to do with Mazda since 2015 and they were less and less involved each year after 2008. The 3rd generation Mazda 6 doesn't have anything in common with Fords. Mazda actually has a partnership with Toyota now. As somebody who owns a 2015 Mazda 6, I would agree that the quality still isn't quite as good as Honda or Toyota though.

Sometimes I get 47 miles per gallon on the highway with my cylinder deactivation feature. I average about 36 mpg locally.
