I have to point out that there's a song from 20 years ago with the same title and premise by David Rovics. But the American Empire is still what it is, so it has to be said again
@@nikopoa6555 That's what I figured, but again I'm not religious so Idk anything about that. I'm a confirmed methodist just get my mom off my case though I'm not a believer.
A very timely and desperately needed song for humanity. Deep appreciations for sending this out to the world. I am a crusty multiple tour combat veteran (ashamed of now) and a Veteran for Peace (happy to be now) and love the message of this. What would Jesus do?
Superb songwriting and performance. Fantastic video too. Yet again GemsOnVHS knock it out of the park (it seems to be something of a habit for you guys). Bravo!
I've never heard a song that activated every bone in my body screaming to learn and commit it to memory faster. So incredibly timely. Thank you for this.
What is so delicious and also at the same time heartbreaking is how relevant the song is. It’s crazy where we are here. The amount of hatred now is unimaginable. How have we got here?
Never could believe in God or religion because of all the messed up history I learned about in school. The state of the world is why I ain't no Christian. I know what Jesus would do....
State-sponsored religion and military/police (physically) put Jesus on the cross. Jesus is confusing in our worldly understanding, but if you seek, it clicks why it went down like it did. God will help you if you seek and you won't need no church building to know He's True
Jesus would (bc He already did) give His life for any and all that would choose to believe in Him bc they have come to the saving knowledge that God is Love and all the stuff that ruins our lives is anti-Love. Great song❤️🙏🌈
I like it. A bit idealistic considering the stories of jesus are an amalgamation of older, pre-diluvian, stories of multiple different people, but ya got a good melody and a good heart. Add another verse with a black nobility reference and its a cut for the ages.
@@mr.misanthrope1991 You're right. Don't let the truth get in the way of good old fashion american entertainment. Better off to keep propagating the lies to make ourselves feel good. Ignorance is bliss brother.
You’re confusing Yahweh for Jesus. The new testament is pretty cut and dry with scholarship regarding Jesus and the accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John but the Old Testament Yahweh is an amalgamation of multiple deities namely Set and El.
@@aaronriddle9278 No I'm talking about stories from before the Old Testament about death and rebirth of Tammuz in Sumer. I don't think that happened to the person or people that Christianity is based on. They just threw it in there to get people to take part in a ritual every Sunday. "They" had access at the time to the story from Sumer and they used the awe it can inspire to do black magic. Sure there's great things in religions but be careful who your master is.
@@mr.misanthrope1991 i comment on a song that talks about building walls, MAGA hats, and trans rights and you want to tell me i'm bringing politics into it?
@@jamorainsThere's no talking to these people. Because THEIR disgusting politics rule the roost with an iron fist, they don't see things like this as political. This is just being a heckin wholesome decent human bean.
Fan of this channel and also from KY, but the lyrics are a miss with this one. Christian here. These lyrics try to use Jesus to petition a different wordlview but the Jesus used is easily seen as a distorted 10,000 foot view of Jesus from a guy raised in an entitled "Jesus is my homeboy" culture who has no interest in Jesus himself. Dust off your bible and read Revelations 6 till the end of the book, it will immediately be clear that these lyrics hold no weight at all. Not trying to convince anyone of Christianity in this post at all, just saying these lyrics are paper-thin. If I were to try and use a Michael Jordan analogy to try and bring out a worldview change to a basketball fan, I'd take some time to learn about Michael Jordan first.
Gosh, you sound so smart. I can’t wait to dive into your favorite book of fiction. Also Michael Jordan is a piece of shit, read his book. Swish, Slam Dunk!
@thanasis-_- In short. Anyone who's name is not written in the book of life (Rev 20:15 & Rev 21:27) which would include "the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars" who will be burned with fire and Sulphur (Rev 21:8). At Jesus' return we are told nations of people from 4 corners of the earth numbered like the sand of the sea will be tormented day and night forever and ever (Rev 20:7-10). We are told all who do not repent will gnaw their own tongues in anguish, be scorched by the sun, have their flesh eaten by birds, 1/3rd of the population will be poisoned, everything in the sea will die, etc. This is similar to a "bomb". This song misses the mark in that Christians are encouraged to be peaceful BECAUSE our God will come back in righteous judgement, NOT because our God is so "peaceful" that He doesn't pass judgement at all. (While other religions may believe they have a holy call to violently bring about justice on their own, bible believing Christians believe God will bring justice on His own terms. We are free to be peaceful while still trusting justice will be served.) We are not God; We are told to love our enemies (Matt 5:44). Our God, though, is a "God of Vengeance" who will judge the earth and repay the proud, wicked, arrogant, boastful evil doers what they deserve (Psalm 94). --- I'm not expecting you to believe all this but hope you can see how it makes the song weak. He is speaking of a Buddy-Jesus that even Christians don't believe in.
Othello (written in 1603) Act 4 Scene 3: Emilia: "I know a lady in Venice would have walked barefoot3060 to Palestine for a touch of his nether lip." Always has been, always will be
It was a region, not a state. A region inhabited by Jews, Romans, Ottomans…. There was never a Palestinian state because as soon as they were offered one they decided to illegally invade their Jewish neighbors.
This is the mindset being placed so they can soon say "There is no Palestinians" because they would have all been brutally and systemically MURDERED." As another commenter said the region was historically known as Palestine for longer than it's been known as anything else. It's sad that people are not being treated as people, and their homes are not being respected. And that genocide is being accepted in the mainstream under the concept of "Us or them". Which is ironically a nazi talking point.
This is pure gold. The imbodiment of folk music. Keep speaking out, Jordan
One of the best folk songs ever written, in my opinion. Thanks for your music, Jordan.
I love this kind of music!!!!!

Rovics is a really wonderful songwriter. Loved his song for tortuguita too
I heard that one when looking up this one. Clever tune, good writing, different times but the same message.
Rovics is so prolific. I wish protest singers could get wide exposure! Peace and justice, fam
Beautiful, bout to play this one at church
know you're likely joking but my non-evangelical church would definitely play this at a service
Do you think the line about the gays n tran would go over well? I’m not religious so I’m genuinely asking.
@@djjazzyjeff1232none of this would go over with the evangelicals. That’s why he wrote it.

Great song with a profound message. As a Christian I adore this kind of work.
Love your voice, your words, your guitar playing. Well done sir. Well done.
Right up there with Gods Plan. I wish people would just take a second to think about what in the everfuck we are doing. We’ve lost the plot. It’s sad.
