- Another recording from my time in Melbourne, Australia with the legendary Kyle Brew. One of his roommates was in Japan, so he let me crash in their room for a couple days as we recorded a whole mess of bangers. I had heard about Kyle from seeing his Gems in the Rough entries, where'd he'd placed top 3 two years in a row. Both of us are fans of Justin Townes Earle, that slapping out the guitar with that awesome thumb heavy style. Kyle has a great ear for production, too. He self produced a ton of his own tracks on Spotify, and some Anthony Simpkins ones too.
You can find Kyle's tunes on bandcamp at kylebrew.bandc... and you can find him on Instagram at @kyle_brew.
Our undying love and gratitude go to our executive producers for making this project possible: Brad Sirois, Mitchell Davis, Keith McQuillan, David Jameson, Lisa Galvan, Irvin Maddox, Josh Collins, Brady Jones, Julie Nestoroff, VJ Arizpe, Mr. Free, and Rusty Shackleford.

I’ve watched this probably 1000x I can’t get over it
Same here
I've been watching GemsOnVHS for a very long time now, it has been a major influence to my current favourite artists, and prior to leaving Australia I didn't know music like this existed in Australia until I heard Brodie Buttons and Kyle Brew slam on this channel! Very glad to know and massive love
Loved this song during the gems contest and I still love it now.
I can't help but replay at least once every time I put it on
That, my friends, is the quintessential kitchen of Australia and no theres no better place to stumm a banger of a song. Well done 👏
I thought the same thing. I knew this was Australia just by the kitchen in the thumbnail!
Lol I love that. Kitchens are so personal to their countries.
I like how Kyle doesn't put any unnecessary flourishes when he sings, giving the words space to breathe. Great singing and playing, great honest writing too.
Kyle is a fuckin gem. Truly. His music touches my soul in a way I cannot explain, I truly needed his music right now and didn't even now it. Been listening to this album nonstop.
I used to work on the guest ranch that the Marlboro company had in Montana. I met the Marlboro men a couple of times. One of them even was missing part of his finger like me working cows.
i have my name and my regrets… damn, son, that hits home
Love Kyle Brew. Listened to all his stuff non-stop after you put out Gods plan, in fact that was one of my top spotify songs in this years wrapped. Hope he gets to tour in the US soon, would love to see him live in New York.
Keep on keeping on Anthony!
If I could live again I'd be Rey Mysterio, but I still appreciate the sentiment
based
So great!

Well done son
Is this kyle original song or what? Can anybody please tell me more about this song?
Far as I could see there's a cpl other marlboro man songs, that are different songs. So I'm guessing this is an original
its original. its streaming online as well.
Nice
👍😎👍
Come to Tennessee I'll sing you some songs from a real one armed harmonica playing man. I call my album "songs about addiction live from Baton Rouge parish prison"
cool.
#deathstranding
great song!! It's too bad the record doesn't sound like this field recording.
Just different! He has another version on TH-cam too, and on Spotify it's different. Kyle is a great producer, he does all the recording at home himself and has some really creative great tracks. I really like his latest one too old to dream. But yeah, y'all know I'm a field recording genre fan lol
@VHS Thanks for the reply. Too Old to Dream is a Nick Shoulders song is it not?
I'm a record collector interested in the roots of american music . As such I listen to a ton of recordings from a time before multitracking and isolation booths. As a result over time I've developed a strong bias toward the sound captured by a single microphone set in a room with the performer(s)
BTW-I dig yer banjo cover of Cigarette Machine You'd probably like Dave Stamey's live stuff. Do you have any interest in Canadian fiddle music?
A la prochain foi mon frere.
You said that this was gonna be a cover of the Marboro man why are you wasting my time for
so youll comment on the video to help boost the signal duh. thanks!
Outlaw Country Jeff Buckley
A Florida gal in 2005 put out this Marlboro Man.
Does anyone know the original
this is original, by kyle. in the beginning hes talking about a different song, idk it personally.
Great song . Left a longing in my heart 💜
