- Alright folks, it is back to Dublin, Ireland we go. Once again, we're collaborating with talented filmmaker Luke Brabazon, whomst helped me with a number of recordings while I was in Ireland, and has since created a couple recordings all by himself for the channel! A million thank yous to him, here is another one he made with us; ( • Alfi, "Jubilee," // Ge... ) the band Alfi, and another with Molly O'Mahony ( • Molly O'Mahony, "Golde... ).
As for Dug the band, i'm familiar primarily with the solo work of the resonator guitar player, Lorkin O'Reilly. He has some smash hits on Spotify under his own name, and when I was filming the Mary Wallopers in Ireland we met up for some food and music. I recorded a couple videos with him, which sadly were all lost when putting my SD card in another camera in a pinch corrupted all the data. That was indeed a shame, but i'm happy we had this opportunity to collaborate again, because Lorkin is a great fellow and a fantastic songwriter.

A quote from filmmaker Luke Brabazon about the location;
"Through secret doors and holes in walls, we were guided from a squatter-run pop-up community centre through to a massive auditorium - a 5-storey abandoned space in the middle of Dublin city.
The space has been a ballroom, a concert venue (The Ramones played there in the 1970's), an ice rink, and finally became a furniture shop before a fire about 5 years ago.
Since this video was filmed in December, the squatters have been kicked out and the building is planned for development as an apartment block."
Our undying love and gratitude go to our executive producers for making this project possible: Brad Sirois, Mitchell Davis, Keith McQuillan, David Jameson, Lisa Galvan, Irvin Maddox, Josh Collins, Brady Jones, Julie Nestoroff, VJ Arizpe, Mr. Free, Rusty Shackleford, and Joshua Taylor.

THANK YOU !!
I’m Irish, I was walking down Grafton Street today!!! I heard bands playing all over the place, I ignored them as there all the same old songs being played… then… I walked by these guys .. playing a song I think is called promoter man???? … I stopped… and listened and instantly loved the sound .. I stayed and recorded them on my phone.. and now I’m here listening to this masterpiece… absolutely insanely good. These guys have made my day & week that I’ve found them!! The sound they create is incredible. ❤️
Upload it dude! I'd love to see.
Same here
I really don’t know how to upload on TH-cam 😂 I’ll try and let you know when I get uploaded.
This was such a joy to film! We got in during the last days before the space was shut down, I'm glad we caught a little of the space's magic on film before it went.
Thanks for getting all the great Irish music for us Luke!
smashed it man
What a cool space. It's sad to see the magic fading in these old places.....progress!!!
@@lorkinoreilly7342so good!
You guys did an amazing job. The vibe is fabulous!
Took me till the very end to realize the guy on right was playing that accordion box thing with his leg.. that's awesome! Great sound.. need more!
It's called a harmonium, I see them a lot with musicians in India
I thought he was just keeping the beat moving his leg like that for the first minute or two haha. Awesome
These dudes have it. Absolutely.
Heared this in dublin in may this year! Such an nice song! Need this on spotify asap!!!
My favorite Gem of the year so far.
cheers thank you for watching
Just looked DUG up on Spotify. I am shocked that he only has “5 monthly listeners”. What a great tune. I look forward to listening to more of what they have to offer.
They just started! Follow em lol
We were lucky enough to see these guys @Libert Hall supporting The Handsome Family. We bought the tickets for their gig in Whelan's straight after their set that night 😊
Seen the lads live last week at their first gig in whelans, can't help but think plenty of success is on the way. Great sound
I'll be playing this diamond at midnight this new year!!!
Boys that was well played! New fan here. Good for porch sittin' and shop work.
Thank the lord for GemsOnVHS. Amazing!
This made my year. Came back to Kansas City from Columbia. Popped up in the airport. Brought me to tears jumbled in complicated feelings coming back into the states and thousands of unknown people. Thank you for this. Also where’s the lyric feller I need ????
Thank you again @GemsOnVHS for showcasing the most amazing talents from all walks of life. And thank you Lorkin for your artistry, you are an inspiration. This performance was astounding. There's so much going on in this; the setting in contrast to the lyrics, the resonator guitar that's clearly loved and played hard, the banjo/harmonium/cymbal players effortless juggling act, the electronic stomp box kick drum. Brilliant.
Close your eyes, stick a few crackles on and this could be an old phonograph recording from new orleans in the thirties...fabulous !
This is real raw folk music we need this poetry more than ever today
Saw you in Dublin some weeks ago when you were supporting the amazing Jeffrey Martin! Since then I've been humming this song and am so happy it's finally out! Congrats lads and greets from Berlin!
That's a cool lineup
Thanks for mentioning Jeffrey. Now I have a new favorite band.
Can't wait to hear a full album from you guys. And i love the acoustics of this space.
I was in Galway on August 26, walking with my sister. We heard music at every corner of the old town. However, when I heard this particular sound, I couldn't continue walking. I just stood there, listening and enjoying the music. Greetings from a Guatemalan.
This is magic. Every part of it. I want to work for y'all 😅
I love finding gems like these. makes my heart happy!
Normally hear but don't listen to busking music as I walk though Dublin town. But, I heard these guys and instantly pulled in like a magnet.
See you in whelans guys.... Hoping for big things for ye
Loving this, giving me Charlie Parr vibes! Great song!
Chords? I'd really like to play the banjo part. Help me Anthony!! (My wife and I call you Lil' Gem, thx for upping the punx!)
Love this so much- thanks for sharing ❤
Lovely vibe, that banjo and slide combination sounds so wonderful!

Where can I find his music? When I look them up on Apple Music it’s some metal band. I found the song thankfully but that’s it
we are just starting, only one song out so far!
Thanks for responding! Love this song I’ve listened to it so many times. Itchin’ to hear more, can’t wait!
What type of singing is this? Is it country western?
I'm searching for male musicians with spirit, one's that aren't moany, 'cause Sierra Ferrell has shown us the way... these guys fit the bill 💚
Love it. I'll never not be confused by why Europeans and Australians love their accents so much but it vanishes the second they start singing, replaced by what sounds like they might as well be from Arkansas. I like the duct taped bells on the foot move, my daughter brought home some bells that don't quite fit around my ankle and I had the same idea.
lorkin can correct me if im wrong but i believe his accent is very reflective of his mixed heritage and having lived in different countries for extended periods. i feel the same thing happens to me, people will have many opinions of my accent but as a life long southerner in the USA with parents from both regions, what am I supposed to speak like? what am I supposed to sing like? should I sing in a northern accent, because my mother is from michigan? or a southern one, to reflect my father's georgia roots? or should I sing in "my" accent, which effortlessly changes without even trying based on what group I am around? some of my vernacular is purely southern; i will always say "y'all" and call soda products "coke" or "soda", never "pop". and in countless other ways i've adopted my grandmother's midwestern mannerisms. who decides what I should sound like? no hate, just genuine questions.
Wait, that accent at the end.... Where are they from?
not sure where the person talking at the end is from, he isn't one of the artists but let the artists into the venue i believe.
It's a jam 1:49
im obsessed with that part
Cant find these guys online?
