Build a Goat Shelter With Pallets

  • Jeremy shows you how he builds a goat shelter using reclaimed wood from pallets in a limited space with a limited budget. Unfortunately, this project isn’t just cut and dry. He is building off of an existing shed with less-than-plumb lines and on uneven ground. This means having to measure every board and cut.

    Jeremy: for hillbilly engenering you got some nice levelingtools. Wish me and my dad had those when we did interior construction on my brothers house. Since I'm living on my own and my dad is getting older, I will get those tools in my toolbox one day. Maybe add them on my birthdaylist.
    Jamie: It seriously make it easier for the builder when you hand him all his stuff. Even if you think your picking your nose most of the time.
    Thanks guys on jet another video nicely and informanatly put together. Gonna do some catching up today.

    Great use for the pallet wood. Throw a compass/scribe in your tool belt. You may consider it faster for marking angles like at the top of the rafters. Also could have use the scrap 2x to make that initial line by pulling the rafter out a bit.

    Loved it , I like to watch building anything. I used to build houses , post and beam and timberframe . We used alot of string lines, and the 3,4,5 method works really great and you can multiple the numbers for bigger spans. You should check out how to use a water level . This method works awesome and it is cheep and old school .clear plastic tube - 20 ft. and water . Water finds its own level . You will need a hand , quality family time. Research it , its fun and works great . The tube can be 3/4 inch outside diameter .Thanks again for sharing your adventures . Take care and Blessings . I look forward to all your videos .

    • @Guildbrookfarm
      @Guildbrookfarm  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Gary Gerow - Yes I've used a water level on many projects. Pole barns, post and beam and timber framing are my favorite styles. If I build a house on the next property it will be that.

    Very nice reuse of the pallet material. I do not know about goat shelters but I know our horse shelters are always open on one end, the horses can come in and out to avoid getting over heated and a chance of getting ammonia.

    When it comes to this type of building situation, don't forget to use the S.W.A.G method ( Scientific Wild Ass Guess) it usually works best. I have been lurking on your channel for a little while now. I really like it so I just subd you. But something was missing. I love the great info your wife provides. I have dietary issues and Jamie has provided some great ideas to make life more enjoyable on the homestead, along with all the day to day chores of homestead life. However as a guy I felt that perhaps there wasn't enough pepper in the stew, so to speak. After this vid I believe Jeremy is the missing ingredient. Maybe a little more with the Mr. and the Mrs would fill the bill. Great vid Jeremy. GOD Bless. May your camels spit nothing but dates.

    Looks good. Do you have any idea when you'll receive the goats (pending fencing)? One of my neighbours has had a goat for a few years. It lives in a large dog kennel and is tethered by a chain. Whilst it doesn't sit well with me, particularly not on a long term/permanent basis it is their method sans fencing. Other than that it is a beautiful animal. Another question, will they need enclosed shelter as protection from wild animals at night? Thanks for the video. Good to see things grow, both the farm and your lifestyle.

      Hopefully we will get them within the week. The fence and barbed wire should hopefully suffice for predators. At least it does for others around here.

    I built my goat shed out of pallets too. I thought that I was the only one that saved and reused the nails from the pallets. LOL

    Looks great but will you be adding insulation to keep the cold out?

      +Kimberly Mayo - Probably not but maybe. With the interior walls on and straw on the floor, it should be warm enough here.

    If you think you'll have plenty more post holes to dig on the homestead you won't regret investing in a gasoline powered Auger from Harbor Freight. I think I gave about $175 after coupon and taxes. It has really taken some abuse over the last couple of years and it just keeps on going.
