We are- a family of four,
Mum- Annie,
Dad-Bruce
Two children Elsie and Betsy
One dog - Doug
and we decided to trade our busy life as home and business owners to chase the dream we’ve harboured for 10years.
How did we get here
After years of saying one day, we finally realised that these opportunities don’t just land in your lap and if we seriously wanted to make a difference to the Earth then we were going to have to stop talking about it and do it!
We sold all our stuff, got rid of the mortgage, sold our camper conversion business and landed in a dream come true. After traveling in our van we settled here in the west of Ireland. A place that has always been special to us. Annie is half Irish and since we met 12 years ago and she took me to meet her family i fell in love with Ireland too.
Now we’ve made this dream a reality there is no stopping us! our plan is to work hard, meet new people and learn new skills that will guide us on our journey of permaculture and creating a way of life that sings to us. One where we aren’t bound to the banks, working every hour and outsourcing all of our needs. A simple way of life, with connection to ourselves, each other, the earth and our community.

Excellent. Don't think i've come across a more genuinely solid bloke on youtube. Loving following your guys journey. What a beautiful family living a beautiful life
Thank you for the very kind words 🙏
Watch your mouth nah
oooh, I like your nail hiding technique, haven't seen that before. Upcycling is the best, great job!
That was cool!
I’d love to claim that it’s my trick but I think I saw it somewhere on another video. Neat idea though isn’t it
The kids will remember building the goat house. 🐐 well done
Newly subscribed! I came here from Mossy Bottom and Bealtaine Cottage. Happy Bealtaine! Blessings Abound!
Great 👍 video always so interesting ❤love it.
Thanks Terry
Those are some lucky goats! They are coming home to a lovely house and a beautiful family!
Thanks 🙏 the kids are looking forward to them arriving
You look happy man especially making the goat hut with the girls! That's what its all about....doing stuff that makes you happy. Another lovely vlog Bruce
Ah we had a great time! Looking forward to getting the little things now
Getting Pigmy goats next week and just built a similar goat house to this! Thanks for the inspiration! Bought 150 yards of sheep wire and the goats are 6 months old ,Will they get through the sheep wire holes ?🤐
I’d say they won’t get through the wire but won’t be long before they can jump it. I now use the higher poultry netting and they still jump that from time to time. Make sure they have something to entertain themselves and a good bit of forage. Mine always seem to think the grass is greener on the other side 😂 ours did go through the holes when they were very small but once they get a belt from the fence they usually stay away from it
Fabulous
Great job Bruce, looks fantastic
Thanks 😊
Hi Bruce Sorry if you have already covered this but Helen and myself have been looking at goats for our land. In our reading it has been mentioned that goats need somewhere for there hooves too dry. They apperntly dont like constantly wet hooves as they are suceptiable too a number of problems from this, the recommendation is there is always a floor on the goat house. Check with whoever your getting the goats from as ours is reading and yours is doing. BTW we got our land in aryshire yesterday.
Thanks for that info. I wasn’t aware of that so I will ask and get back to you. Congratulations on the land
I've built almost an exact replica of your goat house for my chickens Bruce, pallets are definitely a homesteaders best friend. Next stop some poultry for you lot. I'm always interested to see how other people are doing the homesteading life cheers for sharing
Hey Brian. Weirdly I always thought we would have chickens first. They are definitely on our list though
Great job.... well done all!!
So cool 😎
I love to see kid's in the vids. ❤ 👍
I adore pygmy goats 🐐 I know you're getting them for milk, but I think they will quickly steal your hearts 😆 I never thought about how much milk a normal goat or even cow would produce until you mentioned it in MB's video, so it's a great plan. Wonder if I can convince Jonny on a couple 🤔
Also, I just keep thinking about what a great lifestyle you're giving your kids, so much better than regular school imo.
I have no doubt. It will be a while before any milk is a possibility. My main concern is then getting to my veggies 😳
Watched your interview on the Mossy Bottom. Nice goat house! Subscribed!
Thanks for subscribing 🙏
Sorry for the typo…just corrected.
excellent, I can't wait to see the goats jump on top of it ;)
Ah you know they will!!
Hi Bruce and Family that has to be one of the best home made be it goat houses I seen been made, I don't think you could buy one from a shop made any better, if that makes sense. Well done I really enjoyed the video, the goats will be rightly impressed with their new house. looking forward to the next video.❤👍
Thanks jimmy. We are excited to welcome them to the family :)
Smashing job. The handles to move it around are a great touch.
Thanks 🙏 it’s not too heavy either which is good. Fingers crossed the goats like it
I watched you once before but couldn't find your TH-cam, then Mossy Bottom found you for me!!
Hooray for mossy bottom
Goats, pigs and donkeys. See John Seymour 's book. That way you can REALLY get your farm going to the next level.
You could have cleared that bramble patch without buying that special blade for your brush cutter and got the ground fertilized at the same time.
I know it would have been a lot easier on my back that’s for sure! We will be getting pigs soon too :)
Nice one.
I can’t wait to meet the goats 🐐 great video ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ah they are so cute. Haven’t seen you for ages :)
Great video, really enjoyed watching the build and learned some things too. My first time here. Lovely family. Looking forward to more.
Thanks for watching :)
Looks fantastic. Great build.
Thank you 🙏
Great video now I have a idea on how to build one for when I get my goats.
They love it. And they share it with a sheep now 😂
Great job Bruce.
Thanks Michael
@@OffGridBruce You are welcome Bruce.
Built to precision like a pro, spot on. I just hope that your new goats appreciate the effort you put into it 🐐😂 Nice to see the kids getting involved, there is a lot to be said for teaching them new skills and giving them special memories like that. I always pick up some handy tips watching you build. What's the blade you used to cut the roof btw? Love that cladding too 👍 Just looking forward to seeing your little goats now 😊 Oh and nice to see you using your new workshop.
Thanks Rob. It was fun seeing what we could put together. The blade is a from screwfix. It’s an erbauer carbide metal cutting blade. I cut all the sheeting for the workshop with it too and it’s still going strong. It was only about 20e! Hope you guys are settling in well
@@OffGridBruce I really need to pay a visit to screwfix, my list is getting longer lol
We're settling in well thanks, but just so busy atm. Taking some time out today to check out the Mayo Day festivities in our local town 🙂
I built one of these. But yours is better. Way better. hahaha. Well done.
I have now repurposed an old oil tank for their house as that one was a bit on the heavy side. I now use it for my dogs :)
What was the saw blade you used to cut the corrugated steel? Great video by the way. I love watching your progress.
Thanks 🙏 it’s an erbauer carbide metal cutting blade from screwfix about €20
Nice ima use this for the goat I’m getting
Still going strong now :)
Great video…The Makita impact driver works great but after using it for the past 10 years on various farm projects I have tinnitus . So ear defenders are definitely worth using any where near it. Enjoying your farm development.
I am bad at remembering to wear my PPE but I know I need to do better
Those drywall drills are the worst for that, they emit a horrible amount of noise! I didn't wear ear plugs the first time I used one and my ears were ringing for a few days.
I know pygmy goats are probably easier to begin with size wise, but for milk production saanen or Boer goats are better producers, goats are a lovely low maintenance animal just don't leave them near trees or your garden, they strip bark off trees and eat all your veg🙂
That’s definitely one of my concerns. We actually wanted a low yielding milker as we don’t use a lot and I think some of the milking goats produce up to 3 litres a day which would be way too much. I guess we will see though as I have never kept goats before. I am thinking of fencing off my veggies as well as the goats just in case
@@OffGridBruce I grew up with goats so have some knowledge of them from pairing hoofs to smelly puck's 😂 but on the whole they are great pet's, but have to say fencing veg and young tree's definitely a good idea, best of luck in your new venture 👍
Excellent build, how are you doing for £, regard Tony UK
Running low 😳
Seeing as you're getting the Goats mainly for Milk? what will you do with their offspring???
I’m going to keep them I have lots of bramble that needs eating
@@OffGridBruce Nice!
Is that some of you're own music in the background?
No. I used to use my music in the very beginning but even though they are my songs I run into copyright issues with TH-cam so now I get all my music from epidemic sound. It’s one of my favourite bits of editing listening to all the music
Impressive building skills. If I lived this lifestyle I'd need an income of about 200k just to pay all the tradesmen I'd need to do this kind of stuff. You remind me a bit of Karl Pilkington. 👍🏻🙂
😂 unfortunately for me… you are not the first to say that
whats the name of the saw blade mate?
Do you mean the one on my circular saw?
Yeah the one that ripped through the sheet of steel like butter
@@davidosullivan3432 sorry I should have realised what you meant. It’s from screwfix. It’s an ebauer carbide metal cutting blade 20e. I cut all my sheeting for my workshop and it’s still going strong
That's what I would like to know as well! And the goats going to be spoilt rotten I reckon
there the worse,s bottle of glue in the whole world to get glue out of ,you should have taken of the top and taken a sharp blade to it saves you haven to squeeze the death out of the bottle👍
It was a complete firearm work out 😂 I will defo do that next time. Poor kids couldn’t get any out
