- The 2023 Get On ADV Fest presented by @RevZilla and Rever was one hell of a good time in the desert. It was an amazing four days of test rides, amazing food, awesome people, exploring the desert on motorcycles, and the absolute worst ADV bike crash I've ever seen. @ExploreAdventureMoto and I had an absolute blast at the 2023 ADV Fest, despite the fact that he very nearly destroyed his Africa Twin by cartwheeling it in the sand, narrowly avoiding having it land on him.

I finally seen Explore Adv Moto’s wreck I kept hearing about. Damn it looked rough. Looks like some awesome riding and views there. I can’t wait to be completely done with my move to Montana and get back out riding. Thanks for bringing us along Dork.
I'm pretty sure Travis has ridden for a long time and I hope he is OK tomorrow (Day of crash hurts. day after is another story lol). Heavy bikes (350-400lbs on up) off-road are no bueno. Unless you are in tip top shape and have cat balance, they just are not plan A for off-road for me, but then I'm old now and getting just my leg over the bike can be an effort 😀.

You are absolutely correct about microbreweries and hops here in the PNW. My partner compares it to hot sauce. Sometimes hot sauce is great, but these places add hops like those restaurants that add hot sauce just to say their food is spicy.

Another top-notch quality family entertainment video you got here Ben. Great bunch of people just chilling, eating, riding, laughing, and crashing. DOH!! So glad Travis is OK. His pride might have taken a hit on that one, but it now makes for a great story around a campfire.

Looks like a great event and helpful to see what others do / bring to make the desert tolerable (RV, pop-up, seating, etc). A variety of rides and the chance to test out bikes in real-world situations would be a sweet combination. Thanks for sharing your experiences and commentary.

Just remember.The ground gets harder as you get older and those hits will come back to haunt you. My shoulder hurts just watching that crash.

I'm sorry that Travis crashed and glad he is okay. I ride that area and the sand in the video is not very deep compared to some of the real sand washes in the area. I don't think he crashed due to the sand, he crashed because he didn't slow sufficiently for the intersection and the bumps that are often found there. He should have slowed just due to all the people stopped there. That is a warning on its own. Plus, a 530 lb bike with 9" suspension shouldn't be ridden like a 260 lb bike with 12" suspension. A 450 would have sucked that up and kept going. In any case, that is a fun area with a variety of trails and roads to ride.
Dork, I had a blast watching this video! Thank you so much for sharing this! I would have loved to go to this event, but I am too far away for that to be practical. So it was awesome to get to see what it was like and I thank you for that. I loved the off road CRF450 ride. Truly some amazing scenery!! Please keep up the excellent work! for how the wreck looked, Travis is very lucky no broken bones and also minimal damage to the bike in respect of how hard he it the bump and the ground lol

Ben: as a PNW'erner, I am surprised you're not a fan of Rainier beer. It's not brewed in the PNW anymore but in Golden, CO (hint, hint). It's inexpensive ($20 for a 30 pk at Costco), goes down like water, and is "mountain fresh." A commercial ad featured a motorcycle that revved "Raiiiiiiiii-nieeeeeeeer-Beeeeeeeer" while zooming by along a mountain road was notable in the late 1970s and early 1980s. What more can you ask for in a beer?

Maybe I will make it down there next year. I contemplated going this year. Part of that plan was to hit a dual sport event in NORCAL on the way home, but the heavy snowpack cancelled that event, so then I couldn’t justify the expense of driving so far for just a few days of riding. I just need to plan in advance better and make a “vacation plan” and figure out things to do to and from the ADV fest, then I won’t be so skittish about the expense of going that far. I’m too much of a spur of the moment person, so planning doesn’t generally happen!
I’ll be at Touratech for sure. I might go to Sturgis ADV Fest.

Glad Travis is OK and only sore. Most high-side crashes do not end that well. Devine intervention was defiantly at work there.

Glad Travis is ok. Hope he has full coverage insurance on that AT. I did the same kind of damage on the very same bike. Claim was over 7k

Looks like a great time I am excited for the Black Hills. Hopefully I can sell my Moto Guzzi MGX-21 in time to buy a proper Adv bike (Norden Expedition).

Tiger 900 FTW! Mojave is a little outside of my range, but I’ll be at the South Dakota one in 2024!
Fyi. Those windmill towers are much taller than you think. I use to haul those windmill blades. Our trailer was stretched to 130 feet. Blades i hauler were 123 foot long. And they dont come close to the ground. Pretty sure those towers are 150 feet or more. Possible 300 ft. Cant remember cause never hauled the tower sections that are 3 pieces. The hub is around 14 ft in diameter....just some wind farm info for ya. And man, great catch the wipe out.

That desert area is one the most bitchin beautiful places there is to ride. Interesting that you would find an environmental eyesore (and bird killer) as a photo op moment in those beautiful surroundings. Good for the environment (?) - phewy - I loathe seeing those things (and solar panels) marring the beautiful desert landscape. Sorry I don’t usually make negative comments but that’s how bad I despise those things (hulking gigantic windmills). I’ll end on a good note that’s a super fun event would like to attend again - hope it keeps going.

A question from a total noob looking for a bike like V-Strum 800, even 650 but as non electronic as possible. I know it's going to be more in the line of Duel Sport, but want as dumb a rig as possible.

I have considered it, but I'm fat enough. I can't imagine how much weight I'd put on with beer just lying around all the time.

The new camera overheated? Thought you were past that with the new one vs GoPro.
90+ degrees + charging while riding is not good for any camera. I ran it without the extra battery connected the next day and it was fine.

Having spent a shi*t-ton of miles on both adventure bikes and sport bikes... There's no way a Tiger 900 with 100 hp is anything like riding a liter bike that weighs 100 lbs less and has ~200 hp. Don't get me wrong - most modern ADV bikes make enough power to have a fun ride on the streets, but there's lots of reasons you'd want a sportbike instead.
There are reasons some people might want a sportbike instead. I'm not one of those people.

Why buy a sportbike when you can buy an ADV bike which is just as fast?
Have you run an ADV down the quarter mile? The amount of ADV's that can dip into the low 11's or high 10's is pretty slim.
Almost a year since you posted this but, as a fellow Oregonian, I have to agree fully with the state of Oregon micro brews. They all seem to be in a race to see how hoppy and bitter of an IPA they can make. BTW, IPAs were brewed by the English to survive the months long sailing ship trip around Africa (hops being a preservative) for the Englishmen in India... not to taste good
