Chris I can't thank you enough - I had ordered an X-Touch but your video convinced me to get a Faderport 16 instead. Just got it running, following your guide. I will watch the rest of your series.
Thanks so much Chris! I've referred to this video now four or five times when my Faderport16 has stopped working (perhaps Cubase's default.xml has been trashed or whatever) - I never ever remember how to do these things. Your video is so brilliantly clear I know I can come straight here and fix the thing instantly! Every time (so far:) ) I wish instruction manuals were as clear. So I thank you for that!
This is been by far the best tutorial for any control surface I have ever seen. Thank you so very much! Not only did you help me get it up and running, I learned a bunch of shortcuts I could have been using all along with my single Channel fader port! How embarrassed I was to find out all these cool things .... wish I had watched you sooner. I will definitely be back for more. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with those of us who are always trying to get better at this craft
Thank you very much, Chris. I’m sorry about my English, because I'm french. I have faderport16 for 2 weeks and I could not make it work properly. Thanks to your explanations and demonstrations, I find myself there. Thank you for this tutorial that goes beyond all modes of use too light in and forbidding. I will quickly look at what you have prepared for the plugins and sends. Thanks again Chris. You deserve to be French ;)
Chris, is there any way to disable the motorized faders while shifting between banks then re-enable them? I just wanna care about this baby to last longer 🙂
Awesome video Chris! This looks very good! One question (maybe I missed that): if you have the first bank selected (1-16) and let’s say you select channel 30 in Cubase will the bank update on the fadeport or do you have to manually click on the bank select buttons to get there? Every Mackie Controller I’ve tried up to this point seems to have this limitation, is it the same with Faderport? Love these series!
Thanks Dom! You're right, if you select a channel in Cubase outside the selected range, the channel will be selected on the FP but will not move directly to it, you have to get to the channel manually unfortunately. Same with Studio One. The big knob is very useful in that case.
I was reading the comments just to see if someone else already asked for it! haha Guess the only controller that can do this so far is the CC 121, right? Do you guys know about another one? I already have one in home, but need a second one for my studio and its just impossible to find it to buy. :(
I have no idea if this would work or not, but couldn't you use the configuration windows and put the first 16 or 32 tracks there (with the idea of being able to use the bank button and still see tracks in the window) and then make a new one for the next 48 or 64 tracks to more easily shift between them? I know it's still not as easy as just selecting the track directly on cubase, but it might make it faster to navigate with multiple tracks if it's used in a template fashion. Idk though..... maybe it won't be..... might be more trouble.....
Great run through Chris.. Thank You! I have just ordered the 8 track version for my little project studio to replace my first generation Faderport. On now to your next vid....thanks again👍🏻
At 11:40. The MASTER. This assigns the large knob to the master out. Also. The SHIFT F1 - SHIFT F8 Are for the CHANNEL VISIBILITY CONFIGURATIONS see page 365 in the Cubase 11 Pro manual for an explanation of that madness. Lol. Took me forever to research this out.
So you can only select channel in Cubase that are within the bank selected. Which means if you have 300 tracks you could end up switching multiple times to get to the track 250 for example? Can you confirm? I guess you don't do large project like that Chris?
Brilliant video. Thanks very much. Saved me loads of time! However, I can't for the life of me get the configurations to work. When I set up a configuration the faderport doesn't seem to 'see' the configuration. For example, I set a group channel config but nothing changes on the faderport to reflect what's on the screen. Do you know what I might be doing wrong? It'd be a really useful feature for me.
Hi Chris! Great tutorial! 👍🏼 Are any of the buttons on the Faderport configurable? E.g. the F-buttons. It would be great to be able to assign those buttons to e.g. Cubase keyboard shortcuts or macros. I am Aldo looking at the Behringer X-Touch 8. Would be great to see you do a similar tutorial with that one as well. 👍🏼 I hear that the X-Touch controller is working better with Cubase than the Faderport. Anyone in this forum that have tried out the X-Touch with Cubase? Thanks Chris! 🙂👍🏼
I'm thinking about getting this to use with Cubase 12. I currently have the Yamaha AW4416 but I haven't used it in a while and haven't connected it to my pc for a longer time
Dear Chris, I have a Fader Port 8 but Sends are not working correctly in my case. I recap: I select the track I want to control the sends (for example the second track), then I press Sends on FP8, the Sends level is set on fader one and once I touch the first fader to modify the level of sends also the track jumps in the first track. In order to control the sends on the desired channel I have to keep pressed the fader one (or the one that should control the sends level) and select the track with the mouse. I was wondering if you had modify the sensitivity of fader and if you use to select the tracks by touching the correspondent faders. thank you so much for your helpful videos!

Hi, just got an FP8 and using it with Cubase Pro11, love the integration, however one thing I've not yet found an answer to despite scouring manuals for the FP and Cubase as well as forums - none of my foot pedals are working for hands-free record in/out, I'm sure it's a setting in the FP8 or in Cubase, but nowhere have I been able to find out just what I need to do to get it to respond to the footswitch! I purchased a Boss FS-5U which others online say works great, but not for me, also tried taking the M-Gear sustain pedal off my MIDI keyboard & plugged that into the FP8, no soap. Anyone have a definitive answer on getting the record (punch) to work from a footswitch with Cubase and the FP8? Many thanks in advance.
to everyone whos using cubase with a mac! you need to also set up two mackie controls but make sure you set output 1 & 2 to faderport 1 and the second mackie control output 1 & 2 to faderport two. Thanks chris but you only help the microsoft users and completely left out mac users... :(
Wish Cubase would bank channels better. Banking 1 channel at a time is weird. If you hit the bank button it would be nice to go from channel 1-16 then to 17-32…etc etc..
The Faderport is a cool idea, but it really just doesn't work all that well with any other daw except Studio One. The fact that it doesn't chase the selected tracks, half the buttons don't do what they say, the channel "select" lights don't match the track colors and you not being able to select multiple tracks at once just makes it not great. I feel like this is mostly because of the very outdated MCU/HUI protocol which is still used in these for some reason. That said Neyrinck are doing something very cool with the Faderports for Pro Tools, where it completely integrates with the software like the Avid S-series. Such a thing would be great for cubase... Though I really wish it just supported EuCon or the Cubase native protocol like the CC121 or Faderport 1 v1. -A very disappointed and frustrated faderport user.
