- Agust asked me to make this video as a Christms gift.
So Merry Christmas everyone :)
My personal ranking of Non/Disney Heroines' French voices.
This was so much harder than expected.
Watch in HD and enjoy !
Thanks to Denkleinrider for his help with the audios.
I DON'T OWN ANYTHING. EVERYTHING BELONGS TO THEIR RESPECTIVE OWNERS.
Dedicated in loving memory of Bénédicte Lécroart as the French voice of Belle and Nathalie Fauran as the French voice of Melody. 2022 has been such a huge loss for those heroines but they’ll still be remembered forever. 🙏❤️
No Bénédicte 😭
@@peru4068 I learnt those sorrowful news after I came back from holidays and it has been so devastated. And to think that we’ve also lost Angela Lansbury as the English voice of Mr. Potts has been hard too so I rewatched Beauty Of The Beast in both French and English as a tribute.
@@GalaxyRoyal also lost Andrea Arruti (Young Elsa) & Hiromi Hayakawa (Alice 2010 & Merida) in Latin Spanish dub a few years ago.
@@peru4068 Oh my goodness this has been tough! ☹️
We also lost Moana’s Slovak VA a few years ago if I remember correctly
Oh my gosh, I had no idea about Bénédicte's and Nathalie's passings months ago. I didn't "grow up" with them necessarily, but after listening to them for years, and both of their voices being among my personal Disney French favorites, I am truly heartbroken to hear this now. :( They both were really wonderful. (And also, as always, lovely job on the video. I personally would've placed a few higher, but that's only my own opinion.)
I didn't know about Nathalie and Bénédicte, how sad. May they rest in peace, they will be forever remembered and missed. They both were so wonderful in their roles!
I have never thought seriously about who my favourite French voice was, but I have a strong feeling Bénédicte would be fighting Danielle for my top spot! So our rankings would definitely look different but not that much. I think. Either way this was a lovely watch, there is always something special about hearing someone talk about their childhood versions
This is dedicated in loving memory of Benédicte Lécroart as the french voice of Belle and Nathalie Fauran, who is still the french voice of Melody, they marked our childhood, even if i am not a native French,i am a Brazilian, this year has been such a huge loss from France, they will be in our hearts, they will still be remembered forever. Descanse em paz, rainhas!! Great ranking,Guillaume!
The French dub of Beauty Of The Beast is still one of the greatest voice cast ever made but so many are gone too soon:
- Jean-Claude Corbel: Lefou in 1996
- George Berthomieu: Cogsworth in 2005
- Henry Djanik: Monsieur d’Arque in 2008
- Jean Amadou: Narrator in 2011
- Christiane Legrand: 2002 Mrs. Potts (singing) in 2011
- Gérard Rinaldi: 2002 Cogsworth (singing) in 2012
- George Aubert: Maurice in 2014
- Lily Baron: 2002 Mrs. Potts (speaking) in 2017
- Lucie Dolène: 1991 Mrs Potts in 2020
And sadly which hits hard:
- Bénédicte Lécroart: Belle in 2022
*Recent Update*
- Daniel Beretta: Lumière in 2024
That was a beautiful Christmas present, thank you very much!
This video proved me again how solid France is at dubbing, seriously none of these voices were even remotely bad.
And reading your comments about your childhood versions was indeed the most heartwarming thing ever😍
Merry Christmas (Joyeux Noël) to you, too.
Merry Christmas my friend, wish you the best, health, happiness and everything you dream to come true!
I was really waiting for this video and gosh, it was worth it! I don't want to analyse my whole opinion for these voices in that comment, I think you know that I like Beatrice Hagen a lot and I also love your Mirabel. The fun thing is that I was 100% sure that Emmylou would be your number one and I was quite surprised to see her at the 3rd position, lol. Marie Galey is perfection, wish I could say the same about our Greek Ariels, but anyway.... I wish for a great cast in the live action film!
Merry Christmas charguigou! Glad to see your French ranking, now waiting for your English ranking...
Concerning French voices, my ranking would be totally different. I never liked Marie Galey, with the exception of the little mermaid 2 where she sounds older, because her voice always gets me on my nerves. I never liked the excess of vibrato in Katia’s voice neither. I am really attached to Maeva because the first time I saw rapunzel was in a French cinema and I completely fell in love with her singing and acting. My favorite French voices would be Bénédicte and Laura Mayne’s. Perfect casting and so different from the standard sweet and sometimes too sugary voices that French dubbing provided through all of those years.
Totally agree about Marie. I just can't.
French voices don’t sound sweet to us neither sugary, I think that’s just how the language make they sound to foreigners
Keeping it short here: I enjoyed every minute of this! Beautifully edited visually and it was very interesting to read how you view all of these voices!
Oh I was so excited to watch this!! But for some reason the internet at my parents' has been bad and I totally forgot about it. lol the Claire story is similar to how I don't enjoy Vesela on Ariel because of how overzealous her fans were. IDK what to even say about the video, both of us being lifelong French speakers I suppose we have some very personal attachments to these voices and it's kinda just a very subjective thing. See for example Laura Mayne is my #1 no question but I still 'get' your comment. I think it comes to the conclusion that French makes good choices, and even with the ones I like less (such as Dominique and Anais) I still 100% buy them and understand why they were chosen. Rachel sounds SO natural coming from Amy Adams, it doesn't have that odd effect IRL dubs often have. I enjoy Judith Berard and I also enjoy how her name is like a combo of Pocahontas's English actors (Judith - Judy Kuhn; Berard - Irene Bedard)
And of course Marie grew on me....never "My" Ariel but I've discovered a lot to like in her. I enjoyed watching this and I had more to say than I expected! I really hope you decide to make a Canadian French ranking sometime!!
My favourite language ranking that you've done. You've got an beautiful dub, really. In the Jasmine's ranking I felt you put to Hiba kinda low but I understand you. I don't disagree with nothing you said here. Like you, Marie also stole my heart as Mulan and Ariel. Beautiful video that proves how awesome the French dub is. 🇫🇷 (I'm still waiting for a Latin Spanish ranking)
I didn't know Bénédicte and Nathalie passed away. They were two of my favorite voices in French. I still am not on the Marie Galey bandwagon, to me she sounds a bit nasal. But, a great ranking and beautiful video.
I agree that in terms of Ariel's French voices, Marie is better. And Anais Delva actually inspired me to love Disney international dubbing after I heard her sing "Let it Go" in Disney Illuminations. Though, it still hurts that we lost both Nathalie and Benedicte earlier this year. Nonetheless, France is, in my opinion, one of the best countries when it comes to dubbing Disney media.

Congrats for this ranking and Merry Christmas ! I know it's not easy to rank our Native versions and funny because I've also planned a French ranking, that I will upload before the end of 2022 for the tribute to Nathalie Fauran & Bénédicte Lécroat (RIP) and because it was enough to wait all the upcoming characters ahah (like Ariel 2023, Asha from the upcoming 2023 movie Wish, Snow White 2024...).
Well like every rankings, some surprises (like Emmylou at the 3rd place, or Camille's spot and comment), some agreements, some disagreements but anyway. You inspired me with your comment about Isabelle Georges who as you said would have been a better Miriam, before I hesitated between Maïdi Roth or Mimi Félixine (who would have been a perfect match with the speaking voice). I've also didn't like Laurence as a kid^^
My love for China Moses also grew through the years :)
Funny to see Lucie Dolène & Maéva Méline next to each other because for my part I would switch your comments ahah. There is Cerise also who also has this "adult trying to be a kid" vibe in real life that unfortunately I started to hear as Moana too, which is the reason why I also like her less than in 2016. But idk why (and for a lot of versions) this vibe bothers me less on Snow White, but more on other characters and not really on Rapunzel or Moana (and no wonders why I've always thought that Maeva would be more appropriate on Snow than Rapunzel)^^
We certainly don't have the same definition of "natural" lol since to me for example Kaycie's Isabela sounds more natural than her Fei Fei (especially with her over pitched and nasal low notes) and Emmylou sounds more natural in Frozen 2 for example than in FTFTIF where lots of her high notes are forced.
I've also watched more Pocahontas 2 as a kid, but I still love more Laura who sound more genuine IMO ahah
Natural in the sense they don't fake cuteness or sweetness. Kaycie as Isabela immediately sounded fake to me unlike her Fei Fei. Same for Emmylou, she sounded more natural in the first movie, in the second one she tries to take a cuter voice. And I don't feel her high notes being forced in the first movie anyway;.
@@charguigou Your comment makes me realise that no one can be 100% objective about who sounds natural or forced and fake...
@@strubel946 I don't mean forced in the singing like you seem to do; when I say natural, I mean they don't change their voices
@@charguigou I see your point but for my part I've never felt that Emmylou changed more her voice to sound cuter in Frozen 2 for example, especially in The Next Right Thing where she has the level of beauty and sensitivity she has in DYWTBAS with nothing more fake 😍
And about Kaycie I've always found her over pitched voice not 100% natural in some low notes like the end of Mooncakes or the beginning of Rocket to the Moon especially, at least certainly not more natural here than Isabela's songs^^
@@strubel946 oh yeah Kaycie is not more fake as Isabela than she is as Fei Fei, but at least Fei Fei was a kid so it sounded more appropriate, while she makes Isabela sounds like a 16 years old
i agree with you about most of the voices. You know, I would appreciate very much if you made a Romanian ranking
I will make one in the future if I have the possibility to do so
I couldn't have asked for a better present than this. Thank you so very much
Very nice ranking!
Also little side note, but what happened to Nathalie Fauran? How did she die?
Nathalie Fauran died of long illness at the age of 38. She’s been fighting for years against leukemia. This has been so brutal as her mother announced her passing. She’s now at peace in part of heaven’s world. 😢
I'm glad to see Marie on the 1st position - she suits Ariel perfectly. Her voice is magical, I felt in love with it🥰
Will you remake Arabic ranking to Egyptian and MSA ?
Yeah I’ll try to make two rankings, one for each dialect
I put Paulette, Maeva, Lucie, Hiba higher.
I put China, Marie's Mulan lower.
Grammatically you should say I"d put
Marie is definetely my favorite Ariel
I was actually really surprised you put Emmylou in third and not first. Is she still your favorite?
Since she’s 3rd no she’s not my favorite anymore. My favorite is my number one
@@charguigou oh ok
Judith reminds me of Judy Kuhn, but in French.
Can you make Canadian Personal Ranking, tq
I will try to make one yeah
I think Lori Rault should have dubbed Miriam
I never thought I would find someone else who don"t like Laura that much, eslecially a french dudette,Lol🤣agree on Bottom 3,I"d switch China Moses and Claire Guyot Placements,Disagree with Lucie Dolené Comment I"d easily switch her comment with Maeva"s,Never thought Dominique sounds "old"Hiba would be my biggest disagreements,I just can"t stand her screaming and forceful singing,Judith, Charlotte,Anaïs,Nathalie, Bénedicté,Karine,Danielle,Dominique,Jeanne ❤Oh and so glad to see Marie at 1st I deeply love her Ariel ❤
@@PopRock-gl5ey dudette mdr?
@@charguigou I know you"re a Guy Is dudette female thing?
@@PopRock-gl5ey dudette doesn’t mean anything in French ^^ sounds like the word dude with -tte at the end making it female x)
@@charguigouOk,Sorry
@@PopRock-gl5ey no need to be sorry ^^ I was wondering what you meant by dudette ^^
We can't wait for korean💜💜
What's the last lyrics of French 1998 version of "Part of Your World" (12:32)?
“Partir là-bas” I’ve made a video about it if you want
@@charguigou Thank you so much, I think I saw that part a lot in your videos 🤣 She sounds gorgeous
@@charguigou Actually I'm trying to learn French and I even bought French textbook, but unfortunately I'm not learning properly because I don't have enough money...
@@thekoreandisneyprincess5958 try to use duolingo, it’s free app (with ads) and it’s very easy to use and practical
@@charguigou Thanks for the recommendation, now I will have to learn French with Duolingo whenever I have time but in English 🤣 I love how many languages we can learn with Duolingo, English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, German, Italian, Hindi, Mandarin, Russian, Arabic (MSA), Turkish, Portuguese (Brazil), Dutch, Vietnamese, Latin, Swedish, Greek, Polish, Irish, Ukrainian, Norwegian (Bokmål), Hebrew, Indonesian, Danish, Hawaiian, Finnish, Romanian, High Valyrian, Czech, Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, Swahili, Esperanto, Hungarian, Yiddish, Klingon, Navajo, Haitian Creole...
Wait you put in Elena but skipped Sofia? She’s a Disney heroine too.
She’s a kid with computer pitched voices
